Just a question And i am going to post it in both the dell & mytouch sections to see what kind of response i can get.
I often come to these sites to get expert opinions on things to pass on to my friends and that is the case here.
My friend has a mytouch 4g(hates it) and he posted a craigslist ad to trade it. Originally he had a G2 but traded it for the mytouch 4g.
Okay, so he finds a Dell Streak and discusses it with the guy. They email back & forth and all that good stuff and then the guy sends him an email asking how much money was going to put with it. So he of course comes and gets me and asks me how much is fair, so i proceeded to email the guy for him.
Why would Micah(my friend) give cash to trade his 4g device for a 3g device(it should be the other way around but micah didn't ask for cash). The guy's response is The 4g doesn't run at actual 4g speeds. Um regardless, what you believe the standard for 4g to be...Either way, data wise wouldn't the Mytouch still be faster
Then he said the phones were the exact same specs. Ummm...If so, then why are you trying to charge him?
The mytouch 4g has more ram, a faster & up to date processor, better data speeds and better camera than both on the Dell
The Dell is 3g only(although since they are both t-mobile customers, the guy would get 4g speeds and Micah would get edge only), Less Ram, and low quality camera. Not to mention a processor that is like 2, 2 1/2 years old.
The only key benefit for the Streak is the big screen.
So was I wrong for intervening and telling My friend that the dude is basically trying to rip him off or does he actually have a valid point in asking for money.
I know more about the mytouch and I really don't know much about the streak but if i am wrong, then by all means let me know i am wrong.
Thanks
I dont think you're wrong for telling your friend that dude was trying to get him. I paid full price for my MT4G, it was $599 @ Best Buy, the Dell Streak is $499. I started to get the Streak but found ou that you cant get the full data service on Tmobile or somthing like that. The Streak is some bull compared to the MT4G
First of all years ago I did consider dell streak and matter of fact it had bigger screen than HD2(1st 4.3" phone year b4 POS Evo was even born) but I got HD2. So tell your friend NOT to put any money on it as it wont be fair trade.
The guy is just failed merchant as he basically trying to do 360 on your friend. Meaning hitting him for cash when its him who has to add it. Dell streak has less ram than Leo1024 and MT4G has more ram then it along with rom. As its using 2GS SoC with Adreno205(AMD z460 gpu), and is 4g capable. In simple terms MT4G is better in every way possible.
Tell your friend exactly what I say below. "Kid when you get serious then contact me as I am not even doing event trading MT4G for Streak. Much less put cash on top of it, but if you want it then you add $150 and ill even consider it for that POS."
Tell your friend to tell him that and if the guy don't respond he can F himself. As your friend can sell MT4G for $350 with no problem as phone is 3months old where Streak is 2+ year old and sell for half of the price. It would be dumb if your friend took the offer as is much less adding money to it. If something happens then leave me PM and ill get back to you soon as possible.

Thank you for the replies thus far I appreciate it.
All the things I know about Cellphones, Android in general I learn from you guys so when he came and got me and asked me(since he thinks I know all about phones all on my own ha) I
A)asked him why in the world he wanted a streak(For the Screen size he says)
B)Decided "Let me get on Xda & other android sites I use and ask for advice and opinions"
I guess this is a good laugh for those beginning their morning haha
It is almost as funny as that time i was using Craigslist to find a g2(I was trading my mytouch 4g) and some person wanted to trade me their G1+25 bucks, lmao
You didn't specify whether this was for the Streak 5 that operates only on AT&T's 3g, or if it was the new streak 7 on t-mobile.
The Streak 7 is 4g, but it's not a phone, so it can't make any phonecalls.
The Streak 5 is at&t, so it won't go any faster than edge speeds on t-mobiles network.
Obviously this person thinks their streak is worth more than it is. Either way, the person with the streak is getting the deal.
Oh i'm sorry
it's a Dell Streak 5(the At&t Version)
and i so agree with you
Maybe your friend didn't give the glacier a chance considering he even put that offer to you as a possibility.

My Contract with AT&T ended on the 14th. They will upgrade me to the Inpsire for 69 bones with another 2 yr Commitment. I looked and the only other phones they have right now that I am interested in are the Atrix @ 199 and the Iphone 4 @ 99 for a refurb...
I have scoured these forums for the choices I have, and Inspire seems like the best. With that said tho, should I wait? Is there anything worthy coming out that I am missing? I do not see anything anywhere slated, but Two years is a long time and I will be stuck with my choice. Would make me a sad Panda if something great comes out in two months that I could have waited on.
I Just want to make the best decision, I am upgrading from a iphone 3g. ..Like I said, two years is a long time...
There won't be anything of interest for at least a couple months, likely longer. As for being stuck with your choice you can always sell your inspire and buy a different phone later on. The only other thing I would consider is holding onto your upgrade (maybe for iPhone5 to resell when it comes out) and just buying the inspire on here from someone with one for sale. Probably be about 340 for one.

In my opinion, it's taking AT&T this long to offer a brilliant phone like the Inspire 4G. You may be waiting a long time till something better comes out. And the Atrix is a joke. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
There's just so much choice as far as customization goes and with the right set up...an Inspire 4G is as fast as any dual core processor out there.
But it also depends on your personal choice. If a Front Facing Camera is important to you. Then the Inspire isn't for you.
mmmm *hugs my inspire* I am glad I bought you out of contract.
I was in the "should've waited two more months to use my upgrade" situation, myself, with the captivate->inspire, so I understand your concern.
However, spending an upgrade on an inspire is a lot less likely to give you "used my upgrade remorse" than if you had done it with a captivate, only to have the inspire come out a couple months later.
This is a solid phone that will make you wonder how you managed to get it for that low of a price.
And that's coming from someone who paid full, Off-contract price, even.
Inevitably, though, a new phone will come out. You may want to consider, as mentioned, grabbing one Off-contract, and save your upgrade for when the new phone does come out.
(By the time that happens, I'll personally be up for another upgrade, and I know I will be much more discriminating in how I choose to spend it, this time around.)

Hmmm, Thanks guys. I just looked at ebay and I can get 200 - 250 for my 3g unlocked. It broke 2 months ago and Apple gave me new one so this one is in perfect shape. Looks like I can get an inspire out of contract for 300-350 bones. That might just be the best solution for me.
Maybe i should go in and try it out for 25 days or so and ensure I like it. I need it to mostly stream Sirius XM at work. But as my 3g does that I am sure this will have no issues.
I was without a contract for a good long while, so I replaced my Tilt with an Inspire. Now that there is a model of the Evo with a REAL keyboard, I'm starting to wish I had waited longer, for the possibility of an Inspire with a REAL keyboard.
I get REALLY REALLY tired of having to retype everything 2-3 times on the fake keyboard phones.
I am happy with the on screen keyboards. But I don't use my phone for texting. Sometimes I'll reply to the wife. Most times I don't even do that. Lol
I need/want Siruis XM and a Book reader. Truthfully I could prolly just stay on my 3g. Its slow, but both of those things work perfectly. Stanza Reader is amazing.......I would just like a new shiney.
I had a tilt, I loved it, flashed a rom every other day and then made my own. Which is another reason I am looking at this phone. I was completely addicted to customizing when I could.
I have an Evo and the Inspire is basically an Evo with better specs, so yes definitely take the Inspire. DO NOT TAKE THE ATRIX. You can't do much with it in terms of rooting, etc. The whole phone screams GIMMICK. Either get the Inspire, or:
1. Get iPhone 4
2. Sell iPhone 4 for $400-$500
3. Get Inspire 4G
4. ???
5. PROFIT!
Ha, that buying reselling thing aint my bag.
Go for the inspire. I compare it with my mom iphone and my phone KILLS it. Once it gets the speed it deserves you wrong be disappointed

Get inspire 4g after what people say on this forum they will have an atrix and go back to inspire...
Thanks for the feedback! I'm in the same situation (have a 3GS and currently out of contract). Actually had a Captivate for a week when they first released and took it back due to all the issues. I think I'll actually grab the Inspire now.
Yeah thanks peeps. I have been inspired to leave apple. I'll try it for 25 days and if I like I will keep.
Hard not to just get the iphone4 for 99 bux tho.......

I work for an AT&T Dealer ... I strongly discourage you from buying anything refurb from AT&T/Apple.
You will do much better scouring your local craigslist for a gently used iPhone 4 and buying a $2.00 microSIM adapter off amazon then doing your upgrade to the inspire and enjoying the freedom to come and go as you please from the confines of the apple OS.
I might also suggest you research the Samsung Captivate. Lots of outlets have it on clearance right now for as little as $.01. You will find much more customization options for it and better battery life.
Then again, love my Inspire ... thats why I have two phones, one for work and one for play.
Good luck!
Not sure I feel ya on that referb stuff man. I bought my current Iphone from ATT referbished they replaced it a year and 7 months after when I dropped it and broke it... For free. Not underwarranty, had no insurance...They just hooked me up.
A phone is nothing but a toy for me. Spending money on a used Iphone and then also on an inspire is out. That is just to much money on somethin I use to read books and listen to stern at work on. I think getting the inspire and still having my 3g will be plenty. If after 25 days I still use my 3g more, well, then I'll take the inspire back and get the iphone 4. ../Shrug.
ive been through many smartphones and now im about to upgrade since my contract with tmobile is gonna be up soon.
I just want some info and opinions on which of the 2 phones is better or better suited for me...
im looking for one of the fastest responses, less screen llag, unlock lag, better output screen wise, so on.
i do like playing games like Angry Birds and such.
I just want to get the best of right now since im putting down 200+ on either phone.
Thanks in advance!

I'm a huge fan of the G2x.
From the reviews I have read the MyTouch 4g Slide has an OK display (nothing amazing), an OK keyboard, and the same processor that's in the HTC Sensation (1.2 ghz qualcomm).
For me, the G2x has been blazing fast, and I've yet to experience any lag. Also, if you plan on playing a lot of games the Tegra 2 processor will beat anything the MyTouch 4g Slide can put out.
I ordered my G2x used off of eBay for about the same price as a new (on contract) G2x. So, if you don't like signing a new contract, or losing an unlimited data plan (<--- me), you have the option of buying it used and off contract.
Note:
The MyTouch 4g was just released, and with any other phone that's new, there might be some production quality issues (the G2x suffered from some serious backlight leak for a while).
I would suggest checking out the reviews form engadget...
http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/02/t-mobile-mytouch-4g-slide-review/
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/20/t-mobile-g2x-review/
I think if you're looking for a phone that's great out of the box with a TON of customization ability the MyTouch 4g Slide would be the best choice (or if you want the physical keyboard). If you want a phone that is BLAZING fast the G2x is the better option.
Ultimately, I don't think you would be disappointed with either phone.
well.....
i would say mytouch slide. i personally have the sensation which is fantastic! my wife got the g2x 4 days ago and it has been full of issues.
elbette G2X
thanks for all the info in ur post!
i havent been on this site in forever and ive been through 6 G1s. which to me rooted on CynG has been amazing. All my friends have had phones that kill the G1 but with alot more issues especially towards the GPS Google Maps.
I wanted the MT4G Slide only because of the keyboard but i didnt know it had the exact same processor as the Sensation(which i also considered getting)
I knew the G2x had a better processor which lead me into getting it even more.
and i do wanna have a slim phone instead of another bulky one like the G1 or my gf's keyboard HTC phone. my bros got the samsung vibrant 4g or whatever and tht phone is like an ipod touch.
Thanks for all your guys replies.
Imma get tht G2x Today !
Okay, so I'm switching from Sprint due to service issues (I'm less than a mile away from a tower and can never make a call, even standing outside unless I'm humping the tower).
Thanks to the sale currently going on, and my corporate discount, I'm able to get 2gb soft cap unlimited data and 500 minutes for around 55/month.
Now, after having compared the two phones online (aka youtube videos comparing them and some offhand reviews from a few random people) I figured the current deal, the MyTouch 4G by HTC was a pretty good replacement for my Evo. It was a bit smaller looking, some complaints about the UI, etc, but with a custom rom the UI issue is resolved and I don't mind a smaller phone.
But then... almost mockingly... the G2x popped up as an ad after I placed my order... and being the tech geek I am I started praying to Buddha for help overcoming the temptation...
But meh, temptation is one thing, user experience is another.
So, should I go with my deal of 1.05 for a MyTouch? Or should I get the G2x for a host of features I don't use (HDMI out for one). Note, I'm not a huge gamer but there doesn't seem to be many HD games I'd care about playing on a phone, honestly. And I have my evo for the gameloft games and whatnot... but still, if the G2x outclasses the MyTouch by $150 bucks, then so be it.
I would say to wait for the galaxy s ll that's coming out pretty soon. That's just my opinion.

G2x...you will not regret it.
Oh and the G2x is now only $99 on Tmo's website.
I would go with the MT4G...the G2X really is a pos with alot of issues. Not as fast as the MT4G either....
Nexus s. Even though its Samsung, i cant hate on its performance
Rest in peace Mr. Jobs....
@watt9493 - Cannot find the nexus s for sale by TMo. I know AT&T has it though, otherwise, I would in a heartbeat.
@babymatteo - It's actually 150, that's a rebate that my plan may not qualify for... Especially with how I got the plan.
Well, it arrives on either Friday, Saturday or Monday. Let's hope for Friday as it shipped out today.
I have no complaints with the mt4g. Sweet phone and fast as heck

So you're saying that a single core is faster than a dual core? Hahaha...CPU and GPU performance...G2x would be winner no matter what. And as far as issues go, a simple root and custom rom fixes everything...

Mt4g slide is dual core. Iam sorry I didn't realize you meant just the mt4g. G2x anyday.
I would grab the mt4g slide if you can though a sweet phone. But I would go g2x over a regular mt4g

Well, just got my mt4g. Y'know, as an alternative to my evo, it ain't half bad. Actually thinking of sinking that money I would have put into the phone into a tablet. Though I have 29 more days to decide if I like it or my service, so there ya go.
Ok,Here me out I know this has been asked but I have a different situation and reall y need input as of right now I've read so many reviews and heard so many diff opinions I just want some help on here.
Ok so I bought the shift 11 days ago and realized while I have no problems with it I do want the most out of my upgrade, that being said I turned my attention towards the nexus S, also by the way I only wanted to spend 100 dollars no more than that or I would've gotten the Evo 3d or some other dual core awesome phone. Anyways, I know I would give up the hardware keyboard but feel this is inevitable and something I will eventually do. However the NS has a faster processor, better screen, bigger screen, no crap sprint apps you cant get rid of and a forward facing camera which is a big positive for me.
Heres the deal though I never go against reviews and all the stats say that the Shift wins by like a whole start on every review site. That being said a sprint tech said they have more returns on shifts than the NS and that he loves his NS. So I go in considering the trade and the salesman comforted me saying he wouldn't make the trade. I took his advice then got home and thought well of course the salesman said that it'd be cheaper and they'd have to refund me about 50 bucks and a hundred in the long run. Also I read it has bad wifi problems is that true? I'm sorry for the disorder of this post, I'm just extremely frustrated and don't have much time.
SO I know this has been long, but in eveyones opinion what would you do? i know the NS feels cheaper but I mean does that matter? With a nice case, a zag full body cover and insurance should that matter? Also, the 16gb no sd card thing doesn't bother me I don't think I'll ever and never have exceeded 4gb.
I only have 2 days to decide.
Thanks everyone in advance

I would have gone with the nexus s. But I am holding out for the prime
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Yeah, I just read several times the forward cam is garbage do you know about this? I'm wondering all I want to use it for is skyping. Also another big selling point for me was the thought of Ice Cream Sandwich on it soon vs. the shift taking forever if ever getting it. I heard the NS ram is bad is this true?
Well i'm going to be bias in my opinion, but here goes. There's a reason thr Shift does better on almost every review you read. It's a better device ( IMO ) . Yes it doesn't have a foward facing camera. But if that's the only deciding factor, than just get an EVO4G. Way better than the Nexus S. Plus even though it's been put on EOL. It's still got a lot of life in it. I've had a lot of chances to use other devices, and compare them head to head with the Shift. In the end the Shift always wins. Just a better device than most out there, very underated. So I would say stick with the Shift. But what the Hell do I know .
I've owned a lot of phones and the Nexus is one of them. Few things of consideration..I'd say the WiFi on the Nexus bests the Shift, to answer that question. For me, the battery life on the Nexus is not as good as the Shift. Also, the radio in the Nexus has issues. Poor reception. At home, even roaming, I could barely send a text. This was my biggest reason to part with it and go back to HTC. Other than that I felt the Nexus was a nice phone. No issues with build quality and the Super Amoled kicks ass.
Also, if you are a big tweaker/flasher consider that there are a few rooted roms for the Nexus, but not much. And they are all plain AOSP so they are pretty much the same.
If the Nexus S was out when I got the shift I would have got the Nexus instead. Don't get me wrong I love the shift to death, but unless you want to keep the sense ui then get the Nexus. (I think they even ported HTC Sense to the Nexus S)
Yes the shift is fast-but the nexus is faster, has a better screen, and also a ffc.
Although if you stick with the shift its still an amazing phone
If you don't care about a physical keyboard, get the NS4G. I really want my next phone to have an AMOLED. Plus the support we get from HTC is non-existent for the shift.
Also, the Nexus phone should get the Ice Cream Sandwich update, where the Shift will need to go the AOSP/CM route (most likely, because of non-existent support mentioned above).
Tell ya what if you don't want to trade your shift for a nexus s then let me have the trade. you can have my shift all rooted and ready to go. I want that sleek curvy s in my hands.
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Ill tell ya cuz I'm doing this right now. I'm selling my shift Sunday and getting the NS4G Tuesday. I love my shift to death but I want a new toy. But since you can get a shift for the same price on eBay as a ns4g than go for it!

Before I get flamed. This isn't for me, I'm trying to facilitate this for a friend. He wants an iPhone and has his reasons. He's got a thunderbolt in good condition with the 32gb sd card, charger etc and is looking for an iPhone 4S in return, preferably white. If anyone has one or knows of someone this would interest please PM me. Thanks to all.
you might get a better response on the marketplace forum
Haha just cost wise that would never happen. The thunderbolt has not been worth that much since launch. And since its one month from being discontinued due to rezound coming out, that trade will never happen, he had better luck trading for an iPhone 4, since people have no use for it if they upgraded. Thunderbolt is great phone but 2 weeks away from bargin bin to clear stock space.
If I helped you in any way please use the thank you button
your friend would have to trade the Thunderbolt a long with a few hundred $$ considering how much the 4S goes for & the TB now.
personally, i would only consider an iphone if it was both 4G and allowed me to put Android on it.
