I talked att into giving me an early upgrade on this after complaining about the captivate. He told me to sell what I had and use that to cover the new phone. Done and done.
The local store will have one waiting for me on the 15th
I'm planning on it as a late birthday present to myself. Current Aria user but very excited about the Inspire!
I was planning on waiting for the Atrix but after the pricing and the lock bootloader looks like I am going for the Inspire. Hoping it you guys can get root and custom roms. Can't wait to get rid of my iPhone 4 and get my first android device
I have been waiting on a good phone for a long time from at&t. First the backflop then the xperia x10, now finally a real phone! I am calling and checking if I can get an early upgrade. I was going with the Atrix, but the cost of the laptop dock is way off. Motoblur and the locked bootloader turned me off also. I have have a locked bootloader with my xperia and it is basically killing the phones potential.

I was probably going to get the Atrix, but the terrible netbook dock pricing has slammed the brakes on my upgrade plans. At this point, I'll be waiting to see how XDA support works out on the various new AT&T phones, try out the phones in store, and probably not upgrade until the summer at the earliest. I'll probably wind up with the Inspire, but they've really buzzkilled everything for me.
I'll be getting one ASAP...

Mine will be an early birthday present. Exactly one month and two days early.

Same here, Htc forever. But I just heard that Tmobile is gonna have a new Htc phone with dual core processor and a 4.3 screen, Att needs to step up!
I was really wanting to get this, but now I am not sure if I should wait to see what HTC and AT&T have to offer later this year, maybe dual core with LTE
Pre ordered!

oh so me!!
As a long time user of the HTC tilt and tilt 2 I fell in love with the ease of using the winmo and manilla interfaces. Recently got a cruel joke of an upgrade in the form of the HTC surround which could be a great phone id not for the hold backs caused by winmo 7 OS. I greatly look forward to trying out the Android OS on a phone it's made for originally not just ported onto.
I just pre-ordered one. :-D

Greetings,
I've never had an Android phone. I'm still using a Behold and a Storm II for work.
I bought a Nook Color, and I've been running Honeycomb for a few weeks.
I'm ready to bail on T-Mobile and go to ATT while I can still get a good deal on a phone for being a new customer, and the refurb Captivate is free.
I'll try the OEM 2.2 release, then probably root.
If you knew then what you know now, would you still get a Captivate?
I would, imho still the most customizable phone out there. I was mad because 4 days after my 30 day the phone was free for black friday.
I would buy it . If u don't wana wait if u wait till first week of April Samsung galaxy s2 is coming with all the frequency bands on it. So its 3g compatible basically with all carriers.

The deal with the refurb phone is that you run a chance at getting one that has a shutdown problem. There are still some refurbs floating around in their stock that hasn't been repaired by Samsung (despite what AT&T claims) that resolves a random shutdown problem. I know this because I got a refurb that had this problem and I had to send it to Samsung to have it repaired (I got my Cappy last December).
Other than the problem I had with it initially the phone rocks and I am glad I got it at the price of a two year contract renewal and no more.
DONT GET A REFURB. you want the full warranty just in case.
The main problems with Captivates is the crappy (useless on stock) GPS, warranty is good for getting a replacement if your phone has issues. The other problem is the random shutdown problem. it happened to an earlier batch and doubtful you would get one with that issue.
I LOVE mine, best screen i have seen and a great phone with a custom ROM which is not too difficult to install.
I beg to differ. We got better display (samoled), more roms, more kernels, and more developers. What about unlocking? We got that. HTC don't. Ton of themes. HTC is heavy and the battery case is hard to open. We got 16gb on board and HTC got 8gb. Maybe I just like my captivate.

I used to have a Cappy, so I know what I'm talking about. Glad I ditched it.
Display - yeah, SAMOLED is better, although it's pretty good on the Inspire as well.
Roms - I've only tried CM7 on the Inspire, but it's been far nicer than any of the custom roms I've tried on the Captivate. The Cappy ones are great, but CM7 just has so many more features. I know you guys are getting CM7, eventually, but looks like it'll take a while.
Unlocking - yes it is possible to unlock the Inspire, in fact the initial rooting program does it for you.
Weight - it's a little heavier than my old Cappy but it doesn't bother me too much.
Battery door - it was only hard to open the first few times, now it's easy.
Memory - yes Cappy has more to begin with, but it is possible to change out the SD card in the Inspire to a bigger one. Cappy has 16gb internal, Inspire has an 8gb SD card bundled.
Oh yeah the Inspire's GPS actually works pretty well, and HTC actually seems to care about putting updates out for their phones. That was my biggest gripe with the Captivate, is just that Samsung didn't seem to give a **** about their customers after sale. Of course custom roms and such from here were very helpful.
No. Wait for the Galaxy S2

If you weren't so close to other phones (and better phones) being launched, I would say get a Captivate. At this point though, wait for the new phones. Plus you never know with AT &T now buying T-Mobile, the deals should be a plenty.

First week of April? You sure?
Captivate is an awesome phone minus the GPS issue which a lot of the roms do seem to "almost" fix. Awesome battery life, great screen and TONS of roms.
If you can't wait, get it... But if I were you, I'd wait for the S2.

captivates a great phone inspire is a great phone, and the gs2 will be a great phone.
take your pick.
My Inspire destroys my Captivate. Even unlocking the phone is faster. The Inspire has Sense ROM's, MIUI and Cyanogenmod support, a true AOSP build in the works, and RoyalLiquid is being ported from the MyTouch 4G. The Captivate has just now gotten Cyanogenmod support. Pretty much everything else in the Captivate Dev section is the same ROM with a different theme (no offence to the Capybara devs).
The Captivate has one thing over the Inspire: a SAMOLED screen.
All of this being said, it's all fact beside the first sentence. YMMV. They're both awesome phones but better phones are around the corner.

All in all, the Captivate is a great contender when it comes to these kinda phones. I love this thing. lol
Hi everyone
Im looking to replace my old phone with an Android set. Ive been eying either the Nexus S or Desire HD.
Im not in a rush though and I can at least wait until the end of this year. Are there any notable phones worth looking into that are slated to come out later this year?
I would go with the Nexus S, nothing can beat the experience and support of a stock android phone. Rooting and customization will be very easy as well.
I faced that same choice, except I couldn't wait (my milestone had died). I ended up with a HTC Sensation, bought from Bell and then unlocked.
Telus is going to get a version of the Samsung Galaxy S2, according to MobileSyrup.com... I would suggest waiting for that phone.

So they convinced me to get out of flexpay and reset my upgrade a year earlier than it was supposed to be. Looking at the sgs2 but not liking its Samsung. What do you guys think or what have you heard? Are there any HTC phones that are a drastic improvement from the mt4g coming out?

Not that I've heard. I'm waiting until until T-Mobile gets something with a S4 (4th gen Snapdragon) and over 1 GB of RAM. I got the MT4G right after launch and it was worth it then because it was the first phone in the U.S. with a S2 and 768MB of RAM. I'd milk the MT4G a few more months...it's still a fast phone with more than adequate performance.

I say wait as long as you can.. the sgs2 is a nice phone but I read the sgs3 is coming out, the specs are great. As for HTC the edge seem to be a new phone with great promise as well. As for the Mt4g it's still a great phone for atleast the next 2yrs.

I agree to stick with your MT4G and wait a while...the HTC Edge does look like an awesome device
HTC Sensation, Sensation XL, or Amaze 4G in my opinion.
Just wait. At the rate phones come out, roms come out as well. Xda has your back! Unless it breaks, hold off on the upgrade.

Depending on what carrier(s) it's available for, the Asus Padfone is looking pretty sweet
I would wait a bit, especially with the tegra 3 chip in the horizon
Every time I want a new phone, I flash a new ROM. Best way to get your current phone to act like a new phone. Left MIUI for Febs ICS beta recently. It's so amazing It will save you a lot of money comparatively too.
I have an HTC HD2 (T-Mobile version unlocked, on AT&T) and I am looking at getting a T-Mobile plan. My HD2 had Android 2.3.7 (AmeriCan Android). It runs the SD card, so I can still use WM6.5.
So, when I go to T-Mobile, the free phones they have (at Costco) lists the MT4G, which looks like the best free one.
But, when I compare what Costco / T-Mobile and PhoneScoop.com say are the specs, they don't match.
I'm wondering if going from the HD2 with Android to the MT4G is worth it. I know I can keep the HD2 and if I don't like the TM4G as much I can switch back (or even back and forth), but I was wondering what MT4G users think of their phones.
Also, does anyone change to a newer version of Android before the warranty runs out?
I love my mt4g. no the specs should all be the same. I get over a day running cm7 overclocked to 1.5ghz with normal use. Was going to use the phone as a present to control a Logitech harmony base but. Have decided to wait till HTC makes there next big one not really liking sgs2 after using one.

Unless it's free (aka me getting the sensation didn't effect my bill, upgrade date or contract..) , I'd stick with the mt4g.

I will watch out for the LG version to avoid it, but I was looking at T-Mobile from Costco. They have the T-Mobile® myTouch™ 4G Black, and in the pictured you can see "HTC" on the back.
The reason I was looking at this was it is $0.01 from Costco, and it seems to be pretty good compared to my HTC HD2, and I'm running Android, like the mt4g, so I thought that would be a good step.
Thanks!

The development of this ROM is amazing. I got lucky and didn't realize that before I bought the phone, but the MT4G is a fantastic phone for $0.01 on contract.
Either way though, I may suggest a dualcore if it ever goes on a sale. Quite sure there was a time when the SGS2 was like $0.01 during Christmas for T-mobile. Try and look for deals like that.

The SGS2 deal was something like $200 down, with $200 mail in rebate, and $20 per month for 20 months! Not quite the deal I was looking for.
Not sure if I should wait for a better deal toward the end of the month, or take the plunge now!
Anyone know if any T-Mobile deals are coming soon?
You are only going to get a great deal on T-mobile if you aren't a current customer (just my opinion). Otherwise, wait until you are eligible for phone upgrades.
I could not be more fed up with the T-Mo G2x. I just listed it on Craigslist. I have had more problems with this phone that any other Android phone I've owned. I can not find a ROM that makes this phone run smoothly. I do not blame the devs in any way. They are just working with the crap that LG provided them. Anywho...to my question. I was wondering from those of you on T-Mobile what you thought the best replacement would be. I'm not eligible for an upgrade for another year so that is out of the question. I need a contract free phone and it needs to run on T-Mo's 3G or HSPA+ network. Thanks for your advice guys. I appreciate it. BTW...my budget is $350. My initial thoughts were either going back to a Nexus S, or going with an HTC Sensation.

Well.. If you have the option you should think about switching carriers. I have been on multiple carriers before, and so far I actually really like verizon. AT&T is a close second. If you don't want to switch/can't then I would recommend a HTC device. They are hard to root, but nice phones!
well, I run a Sony Xperia Mini on T-Mobile and I'm very happy with it.
It's a very compact phone though (which is exactly what I was looking for - the first Android phone I saw that is actually smaller than my trusty old Motorola Razr v3).
I would recommend you install the Swype keyboard in case you find the on-screen keyboard a bit too small.
I would say sell it again on craigslist or even on ebay...
at the time you could get a second hand samsung GSII
many great reviews on it
Get a skyrocket. Its just as good as a t989 and you get the bonus of an lte phone if you decide to go to at$t.

IMHO you can never go wrong with Motorola or HTC products. Avoid Samsung like the plague myself.
I had my HTC Hero for almost three years. I never had a problem with it, it is by far, the best device personally I've ever used. I got my ns purely for the Google branding.
Go for the sensation if that's the one you like. HTC for me was the best however, its only my opinion. My next phone will be HTC again that's for sure.

Used Skyrocket is the best idea, coming from TMO SGSII owner.
Fantastic device. Even the stock rom is great. Or, go Nexus or HTC if ICS matters more to you than better hardware. Skyrocket/T989 will get ICS, but God knows when.
