[Q] How can I backup/restore my data in the ext2 partition? - General Questions and Answers

Hi,
I am now using a 8GB SD card for my phone (around 6GB FAT32 and 1GB EXT2).
Now I am going to change into a new 16GB SD card (that I will create 1GB EXT2 partition soon)
Can anybody tell me how I can move the EXT2 partition from the old card to new new one using my pc?Thanks!

The only way I know of to do it with a pc would be to use a Linux distro, live or otherwise, then read the data from the ext partitions and copy it over manually if you can have both cards hooked in at the same time (one in a reader one in the phone).

Thanks but my Desktop is running Windows 7,
is there any alternative solutions?

Copying SD cards?

If i upgrade my microSD card from 4GB to 8gb can i just do a copy from one card to the other on XP or do i have to reinstall everything on the 8gb once i get it? I have apps and cache as well as music etc on the 4GB card
Is there anyway at all to make this process of change-over easier (including the ext partition)?
thank
anyone? has anyone done this?
You should be able to if you repartition your new SD card with an ext2 partition for your apps and if you keep everything the same as it was before on your 4GB sd card.

i went from 2G -> 8G and it worked just fine .. two things i did (just because i'm picky) .. labeled the partitions the same
FAT32 "sdc1"
EXT2 "sdc2"
i did everything by means of Ubuntu/Linux .. created two folders on my desktop sdc1/sdc2 and did a click-and-drag of the files .. put the new card into the phone and done

[Q] Creating ext2 partition on micro sd card

Hi,
I have a 16GB Micro SD card that I want to create a 1GB exts partition on.
I have the free versions of Paragon and Acronis, but it would seem I need the full version to create a partition on an SD card?
I therefore got minitools partition manager and I was able to create a partition, but it is unallocated and it's status is NONE.
The FAT32 partition is Primary and the unallocated one is logical.
If I click on this partition almost everything is grayed out so I cannot format to ext2.
Please help.
I am running this on a cheap card reader from ebay on Windows XP.

Ext2 obviously
If it helps the card has a 4 on it, so does that mean it's class 4?
I think I'm a bit dumb !!!
I'd resized the partition only, so it was simply unallocated.
Are there any free partition software downloads that allow me to create a partition please?
It is MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition from partitionwizard.com

I did, I think I used ROM Manager in the end.
It didn't work to begin with, I played with the Partition software above, then I went back to ROM Manager and it worked.

I got class 4 4gb memory card and has used minitool partition wizard to create 3.5gb fat32 partition and 500mb ext2 partition. but when i connected to my SE x10mini and it says 'damaged memory card'. but then i format the memory card via my phone and the ext2 partition has been erase. may i know any suggestion to create 2 partition and make the phone able to recognise the memory card??
one more question, may i know what is the next step to make ext2 partition to be apart of system's space??
I`ve managed to make two partitions using Gparted (win).

Copy partition to new SD

I'm upgrading to a larger capacity SD card and want to transfer the 2nd partition to the new SD card. How do I do this? Can I increase the size of the 2nd partition on the new SD and still transfer the data from the partition from the old SD?
You can use a Linux based partition editor called GParted, just download the iso for the live CD, burn the iso to CD and boot your computer from that.
There's a video tutorial for partitioning micro sd cards for android here, but instead of partitioning you will be copying the partition from your old sd to your new one.
It's a relatively simple program to use. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask

[Q] SD Card 2nd ext partition no file delete - Windows8.1

I fomated a microSD with FAT (1st partition) and ext2/3/4 (2nd part.). 1st FAT works fine under every OS. Also ext (2nd) works fine on Ubuntu Linux PC. and it works on my Windows 7 PC.
But:
Under Windows8.1 with ext reader software like Paragon ExtFS I can read/WRITE but not DELETE files from the ext partition. ext2Mgr can not Access the partition at all. Reader Software like Linux Reader, ext2explore can read it
I tried it with a 4GB normal microSD and a 64GB SDXC. The micro SD is inserted into 2 different USB-readers (one with an SD2microSD adapter), one which can direct read microSD and on another PC into an built-in reader with an microSD to SD Adapter. Files and Partition have read/write permisions fr everyone.

file bigger than 4GB on sd card

hi friends
I have a mk808b device with JB 4.2.2 Official - Finless ROM 2.1 rom
I'm going to download large files (bigger than 4GB) but FAT32 only support under 4GB
I changed sd card format to EXT3 with MiniTool Partition Wizard Free but device doesn't recognize sd card
is there a way to add file bigger than 4GB to sd?
thanks in advanced
Maybe try exFAT or NTFS. Almost all devices should be able to read those file systems.
