Be trying to figure out the storage and RAM on my Nexus S.
I know everyone says its 16GB internal storage and 512MB RAM.
Right now it says 12GB for SD and I know the phone has 1GB for apps, is this 1GB counted out of the 16GB total? or is it another 1GB of memory.
As in
16GB formatted equals about 13-14GB
12GB = Internal SD Storage
1GB = Internal Phone Storage
13GB = Total memory after format and partitioning
and when I look at the phone's RAM in the setting for running applications it only adds up to 298-300MB not the 512 that is listed, or is 212MB of this for system only needs?

thats true i upset about RAM too.....nexus one even got more ram than we
I can't remember the full explanation for the RAM being the way it is but there is indeed 512MB of RAM as was advertised. Also, there is a bit less than one gig of the internal storage is taken up by the system for phone storage.

I just bought Xda II a few months ago and i love it ! The problem is, i just realize that i have problems with my storage card. I'm using kingston 256 mb sd card, and it sucks. The processing is very slow from and to it. My question is, what brand is the best brand for storage card ? How about the capacity, is there any limitation ? As i heard from someone, the storage card capacity for Xda II can't be more than 256 mb, is this true ? And the last, are there any differences between mmc and sd card ? Which one should i use ? i have and used sandisk 512 mb (blue color), is worked fine to me, my friend in Surabaya have sandisk 1 gb, not complain untill now.
my opinion, pda, no need fast storage card, except digital camera, but if you want to fast speed, you can try sandisk ultra II. (the best brand depent on you)
better using sdcard than mmc.

im using kingmax 1GB SD,brought from singapore last month,work perfect,much better than my old 256 MB scandisk SD.
is it ok to run programs and software from the storage card or will it run slow? because i might be getting a 1gig mmc card but if its not worth using it to run applications on i wont bother getting it.

i install about 25 games + 5 software in my 1GB SD,no problem at all.

hi.. i currently have a 2GB sd card, which im assuming is class 2 since it came with the phone. 2gb is less for me so im going to buy atleast a 4gb preferably class 4 (since its known to perform faster). my phone has an internal memory of 320 mb storage and 512 mb RAM.
i was wondering if increasing external storage with a higher class will make my phone faster? also, how about gaming experience since i have games on my sd card

I guess the only noticeable performance boost would be for things you do on the external sd card like reading/writing on it. Also I think apps that you'll move to it might start up faster.
I doubt that it will make the phone faster overall, because when starting an app, once it's read from the SD/ext SD card, it's all up to the CPU and RAM to do the work (also GPU if it's a game), and those are still the same.
I have the prepaid verizon 8gb one. It only has 5.52gb for the partition, and even when new it had like 1gb taken up.
If I installed CM or something would it take up less space?
you can either install a rom that uses less space or repartition and expand the userspace partition
I've read in several places, especially for microsd cards, that you should never fill them up all the way, there should always be some free space otherwise the system can slow down significantly.
My two questions are:
1 How much free space should there be on a microsd card inside my phone (s7 at the moment with a 128GB class 10 card)...and is it a specific amount of space, like 500MB or 1GB, or is it a certain % should remain free.
2 Does this apply to internal storage as well?
This question is really Manufacturer depending. The manufacturers don't want you to know(have no idea why), but on my Lenovo phone, I have 8GB of internal storage, and if there is less than 550MB, my phone goes in low storage mode(no downloads and SMS and stuff). About microSD cards on the other hand, I don't think there is any limitations. If you use swap memory, you should let twice as much space as the swap is big free on microSD card.

I have the Moto G3 XT1540 which comes with 1GB RAM. So I want to buy a micro sd card to use as RAM, and in second place to storage some files.
The micro sd that I ask you to buy is "Sandisk Extreme Pro - Class 10 u3 - SDHC - 32GB - UHS-I - Read Speed: up to 95 MB/s - Write speed: up to 90 MB/s"
So the questions are:
Is a really good choice this micro sd card for this phone?
If I use part of this micro sd card as RAM memory, Will i feel a really positive difference on performance?

That's called swap partition, it would be terribly slow compared to ram.

If RAM, you will be sorely disappointed... There is no way to expand the ram of the device, although if rooted you may be able to add some as swap space manually, but the speed of the SD card is significantly slower than than RAM and could actually hamper overall performance.
If storage, the card is more than sufficient for either adopted (internal) or portable (external) storage... If you chose to use it as adopted storage, remember that this puts significant stress on the card and backups of all data should maintained regularly. We have seen adopted storage cause even high quality cards to fail in a very short time (months) or last for quite a while. Most quality cards are warrantied for life, but that doesn't recovery any data.
