[Q] Noob questions about CM7 and related ROMs

Hello everyone, I have a few questions and I was hoping for someone smarter than to answer them. Here they are:
1. Is there any fix for the APN issue on CM7 for the G2x on T-Mobile? I've searched everyone and couldn't find a fix for this.
2. Does Skype Video Call work on CM7 and other ROMs such as EagleBlood?

Ok the second question is easy, skype video isn't working on any CM7 rom yet.
The first question depends. What specific problems are you having with APN's?? Or have you not flashed a CM7-based rom yet??
The only problem I've had with APN's is that they sometimes drop after turning off airplane mode or rebooting the phone. In both instances it can be fixed with a hard reboot (hold volup+power).
Some people report bigger issues with APN's, such as not being able to get them at all but I think this is a minority.

I have flashed CM7. The APN issue in my phone is that I can't add an APN, but if I fix permissions on ROM Manager, it works but will erase the APN on next boot. The reason Im aaking about Skype is that I went back to stock before I tested it. Is there any alternate solution for the APN?

[Q] Droid Razr - MIUI No Data Question

Just rooted and installed the latest MIUI Rom (6.1) for the first time and I have not been able to connect to data. I know you have to toggle data and tried the GSM only and back to GSM/CDMA auto, however, no luck. I would post in the specific thread, but as a new user I am not allowed to. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance!
Edit: Wow for anyone still having this problem I turned on USB debugging on it worked. Not sure if that helped, but I think it worked for me.
Edit 2: Haha nevermind it was only a short fix. Still no data

Wow thats a weird fix. I would have opened the "download" app and switch between download via wifi and mobile data that fixed mine. Anyway glad u figured it out.

Well you are right haha because it only lasted about an hour. Very odd. Tried to replicate it but couldn't.
Anyway, I tried what you said. It was already on mobile network, but I toggled it anyway. No difference. When I first change the phone settings it will show 3g and 1x, however, no data and then it goes straight to cell signal only. Love the rom, but no data is a killer. Seems like everyone is able to eventually get it.

Alright for anyone else having this problem I left it on CDMA only instead of auto and the 3g is working. Not sure if 4g will work, but I can edit later and let everyone know.
If anyone knows a 4g fix let me know.
Edit: Just got 4g randomly haha I have no idea what is going on.

[Q] AT&T Inspire 4G on Straight Talk Wifi Tether issue.

Ok. So i have been searching around a bit and can not find another person (or thread at least) about this issue. I have a Inspire 4G from AT&T on straight talk's network. I am attempting to Wi-Fi tether after rooting (AAHK), however i always get the message from the phone stating that i need to dial *611 and talk to AT&T. Tried talking to them, but didn't get anywhere fast seeing as i have no account, nor account history with them. I have also attempted to use "Wi-Fi tether for root users" from the Play store, but it does not assign IP addresses to any device i connect to the network. The icon for that particular app stays yellow, but on the other phones that i have tested it on the icon turns green and everything works fine. But to be honest i would rather use the option in the settings menu if possible. Any thoughts anyone? Please dont hold the fact that im a noob against me, i got my training wheels in dev on PSP's and DS's, just starting to delve into the Android Dev world.

Never had a problem with it after I flashed to a sense free from like asopx works great actually and for Facebook and general surfing its surprisingly fast

It will root, unlock, install clockwork mod recovery, and superuser.
After that flash a rom. I will say I use the Rom called "Android Revolution HD 6.3.1" and can hotspot when ever I want, even without the AT&T account.

I am on st talk, and i have used wifi tether without any issues on ICS ROMs. Check your APN settings to make sure they are still valid. If not, try factory reset, and start over.

Try that link. You can try the beta or experimental ones if you like, but I had problems getting them to work. The version 2_0_7 works fine for me. If you aren't running a different rom and are just running the rooted version of the stock phone, the app that is already on the phone doesn't allow you to tether. It still forces you to go through AT&T. If you get away from the stock rooted rom, most of them have the ability to wifi tether built in. Or, you can download that program from the link above. It worked for me
Edit: Someone had a problem getting that link to work. Go to Google and search for android-wifi-tether, it should be the first like that comes up.
Go to the downloads tab at top of the page.

Tethering and hotspotting have not worked for me on ST without flashing a custom rom. All of the stock roms have blocked it as you have described. Don't have to be sense free though, just custom.

Since i updated to JB, i can't connect to the wifi hotspots.
I live in France, and am a Free mobile user.
I use freewifi connect app, but it fail to login everytime...
I tried with many ROM, but nothing...
Do somebody know any tips?

only way to connect on hotspots is passing threw the freewifi website but have to check the connection to often: tried....

Custom AOSP ROM should have Wifi tether. How about trying the app Wifi Tether for Root User? I used to use it when I was on rooted stock Touchwiz.

maybe I'm wrong, but it appears op is wanting to connect his ns to a WiFi hotspot, not use his ns to create a WiFi hotspot...

I'm actually running Blackbean 6, but also tried some other ROMs like PA, Slimbean, TSM... No way to make it run! :S

Everytime that i flash, i wipe everything...
Today i tried on GB, and like ICS: no problem...

I believe this issue is over my head... hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I can help

did you try a different wifi connection to determine if it's really your phone's problem? maybe the wifi signal is slow that's why it can't connect.

In fact, At home i got internet via FREE (web provider).
Each free boxes include one hotspot. So i can say that the signal is the best that i can get!
I think that it may be an app problem, is there any universal hotspot app to try?

It may be cause you need to have an ID & pass !

have you tried unchecking the "avoid poor connections" under advanced settings? thats the last thing I can think of.

As said previously, i have a hotspot at home (Best way for making tests...)
Also, as it works on GB & ICS, why not on JB? :banghead:

try removing the password of your wifi hotspot at home then see if you can connect.

I'd you are rooted, backup with Titanium or similar app, backup SD card, wipe phone of everything (data, cache, system, boot). Format SD through the computer.

If the problem still persists it is probably hardware. Use warranty or pay to have it fixed.

Don't want to hurt you, but i think that an harware issue would really surprise me, as it run perfectly on GB or ICS (actualy on ICS RR, perfect hotspot connection At work...).
Anyway! Just saw that last TSM is out, gonna take a look! ^^
EDIT: can't understand how it's possible, but working on last TSM... another try on BB6 later...

[Q] HOX w/cm-10-20121030-NIGHTLY-endeavoru APN/mobile data issues

Hi,
I'm new to xda forums so pardon me if I'm not as elaborate as most people. I flashed the cm-10-20121030-NIGHTLY-endeavoru and its been great. Had been using the AOKP ROM which was giving me issues with poor battery life, constantly switching between 2g & 3g, and getting worryingly hot during normal use. I do have one issue right now. The mobile data does work but it doesn't use the APN i enter into the settings and is constantly billing directly for data instead of going through my data plan. I've tried everything possible and it still doesn't work.
What could it be?
PS: I've also used getril to check for matching baseband radio & ril and its reporting a good match.

Yea I've tried resetting the APN but no luck. I've also gone to my carrier to get the actual APN settings correctly but to no avail. I really don't want to reflash the ROM and clear all the cache etc. It takes time set the phone back all up the way I want it so I'm hoping its maybe a radio issue I can just flash easily. Will move the post as u suggested. Thanks for responding.
