Returning the phone! Anyone else? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I've decided to return the SGS4G! I personally don't think it's better then my MT4G! I was thinking about selling my MT4G, but I know I would definitely regret it.
To tell you the truth, I really got this phone because of the screen and 4G speed.
Then again the MT4G speed is great to me already and I can deal with the screen just the way it is until something REALLY worth it drops for T-Mobile.
It's been fun!

Can't say I'm ready to throw in the towel yet. Can you elaborate on your reasoning?

Well the fact that it's not really a big jump at all. I'm really satisfied with my MT4G when I actually sat down and thought about it. I need something to make me say wow to tell you the truth. I've been playing with it since it dropped and I'm like what is the big deal?? On my MT4G, I had GB 2.3.2 (CM7) which I love and it's very smooth!!! I also have 1GB of total free internal space.
The phone that I was looking at that actually would be worth it is the SGSII. But then again I don't think I want to switch from an HTC phone to something else. Unless the iPhone drops for T-Mobile then I'm done switching phones for life! Lol
It's not worth leaving your carrier that you love for a phone though.
Just my $0.02.

I am returning the Samsung 4G as well. I have a Vibrant with a GPS that does not work and I was hoping this issue would be resolved with the 4G but unfortunately that is not the case. On top of the GPS which also sucks, this 4G I have has an overheating issue. It gets extremely hot when I try to charge the battery. I actually have to charge the battery in the Vibrant, take it out of the Vibrant, and put it in the 4G.

I'm returning my 4g as well, horrible batteey life. Wont even last me more than 2 hours of internet use with gps off, sync off, black background, minimum brightness, and juice defender. Ill either return it and go back to my old phone or ask for a different unit.

Don't even bother asking for a different unit. You will still have the battery problem. Look at the sticker under the battery, this 4G consumes 20% more juice than the Vibrant. Return and wait for the S2. I can't even go 3 hours on this 4G without having to put it on life support. Matter of fact, I am going to get up after this post to go plug-in the 4G.

I was thinking it was just my phone, based off of what other people have been saying, they can pretty much use it heavily the entire day and still have 50% left

It's a mixed bag with these Samsung phones. You will see plenty of people typing that their GPS is nearly perfect or as good as their Garmin Nuvi, and those whose battery life is amazing, but you see just as many or more people complaining about the same issues. There is no consistency with the quality build of these phones. My 4G is currently plugged in still charging, probably hot enough to fry an egg on the back side. The Vibrant has been asking me to connect to a charger but I can easily go another hour using it.

I guess it varies but my 4G is going decent for now. Did you guys cycle the battery?
I got it last night and cycled it, now I stopped charging it at 11 AM this morning, its 5:18 PM now, I'm at 85%. Now I wasn't using it that much, I did install about 10 apps, read some news, FB, Twitter, and occsaional Email and Google Voice for texts. Now I know this wasn't a fully loaded day, but as of now I'm happy with the battery life coming from a Blackberry. Once I get a full day where I'm out of the office using it, I can comment better on real day battery applications.

Yes I let the battery drain before I do a full charge. I think the 4G I have has an internal charging problem. I think it melted my memory card because now I cannot read the contents. I wanted to copy Inception to my laptop from it before I returned it.

^ That HOT?!
Hmmm, Maybe the charger is too powerful? I used my blackberry charger and I don't remember it getting that hot, or even charging it with a USB cable to the pc.

I also thought it was the charger at first. I then swapped for my older Vibrant charger and still the same problem. Then I noticed the charger is the exact same model number, voltage & everything. I even used the charger on the Vibrant and the Vibe is fine. I just took a picture. I am running to the supermarket & will upload it in a bit.

How does battery life compare between the both of them? At first i didnt like the mt4G cuz of the screen but i heard 2 screens were used and now they are using the good one. I have a vibrant right now, and love it, but i dont want to jump on the GS4G if the mt4G is just as good.

I have both. Battery life for me is about the same. I can get about 6hrs out of them both with heavy use.

Here are the pictures I just took while attempting to charge my 4G. This happens every single time I try to charge it.

The battery is fine. I have 5 Samsung original batteries. Used several of them in there, same problem with all of them. The same batteries work perfect in the Vibrant. Thanks for the input though.

I meant get the whole phone exchanged, you shouldn't have a problem with a brand new phone, that you had to pay for.

No doubt, I agree with your reasoning. This crap is going back for sure. I am sticking with my Vibrant until the S2 comes out.

My thoughts on the matter.
I had a G1 Rooted+CM6. I needed an upgrade, didn't want to wait for the S2.
My wife had a G1 Rooted+CM6. Needed an upgrade.
She has the MT4G and I have the SGS4G.
I'm happy with the SGS4G faster 4G speeds than any other phone around, but then again I live in a major city with little congestion.
Additionally, if you had a vibrant, this isn't much of an upgrade. If you had a G1 it is.
Once the S2 comes out I'll be selling the SGS4G and getting the S2, but don't want to wait 5 more months for a new phone, hence the upgrade.
Also the SGS4G is better the the MT4G on a few points. The Super AMOLED display is much better than the MT4G, holding them side to side you can visibly see the quality difference.
The SGS4G has the 1gHz Hummingbird with the PowerVR SGX540 (no mobile GPU in US retail compares to this GPU) Don't read the fiction of a Quadrant test, this GPU out performs all others when it comes to gaming.
The MT4G has a 1gHz snapdragon with the Adreno 205 gpu as far as I know.
Anyhow, my wife loves her MT4G. I think Sense UI is nice and TouchWiz 3.0 is not bad at all compared to what people say about it.
Preferably I do Stock Android all the way. Needless to say I'm sticking to my SGS4G till the S2 comes out. I don't use flash when I take pictures or need it really... plus the SGS4G has amazing night mode pictures... tested it last night and I was impressed.

[Q] Considering the Inspire

My HTC Aria was stolen last night, so I'm in the market for a new phone. I was pretty happy with the Aria, but I'm checking out some other options to see if I want to stick with it or not. I have to stay with AT&T so the Inspire is on my list to check out..
1) Is the Inspire currently rootable with the latest stock AT&T ROM, or is it locked up because of the 2.2 update?
2) What are the big issues/annoyances with the Inspire (if any)?
Thanks!

1. Yes its able to be rooted with the newest update via GingerBreak
2. Biggest annoyance: battery life (that is something to be expected with a screen size like the Inspire)

As mentioned, battery life could be better, but depending on your current charging habits, may not be that big of a deal.
Take a look at the dev section for this phone... It's quite robust, and battery life can improved significantly with a non-stock Rom.
If you have to stick with at&t, the inspire is your best bet, all things considered, especially for the price.
The atrix has a bigger battery, but is not without its flaws, the most significant being a locked bootloader, and the skimpy dev section here at XDA that comes with it.

If I'm conscious of my batter usage, I can make my Inspire battery last all day. I'd rather have the larger screen and slim form factor than a huge battery. There are also additional batteries and battery chargers available so that folks on the go can care a charged spare with them should they desire. But I would not let the battery life deter you from getting what is a really great phone. The way I look at it, these phones are becoming more and more like portable CPU's. Just look at the Atrix advertising as an example. And as long as my phone can do most of what I do on my laptop and the battery lasts 2-3 times as long, what do I have to complain about? In perspective, this phone cost me $100 and does a TON more than my first $2,000 computer did back when I bought a 386-SX with a HUGE 5MB hard drive and dual 5.25" floppies. It's all in perspective and how you choose to look at it.
Agreed with the posters above me. Not only these features, but at least to me the Inspire screen is far superior to the Atrix. Resolution and "pixel" density are not everything, after all.
OT, but love the OP's user name. I sure wouldn't mind a Shiner Bock right about now.

I'd have to agree with you on the screen thing. I only briefly looked at the atrix's screen while in the store, just before I bought the inspire. While the resolution and density was "better" I suppose, but I had to really *look* at it to see it.
In other words, the screen size + the fact that it just didn't look as vibrant was hard to get past when trying to see the supposedly superior specs otherwise.

Sitting here on my cm7 powered inspire and I just dropped to 49% battery after 14 hours off the charger. The battery life was my biggest worry coming from my nexus but I've been pleasantly surprised so far. I even forgot to charge one night and ended up at 26% the next morning at 1d 4hrs off the charger. I may not be the biggest power user, streaming Pandora all day long while hosting torrents simultaneously like some folks here would have you believe, but I don't baby my phone either. I say go for it, you wont regret this phone.
It's a great phone but I'd say there are two kickers on it. The first being the battery the others have mentioned and the second is the volume of the speaker if you're running stock. It's stupid quiet and can be extremely difficult to hear. If you're going to root and flash a rom there's plenty out there that have a volume boost.
As far as the battery goes, I just pulled almost 3.5 days off the charger with an undervolt kernel. My usage is generally "light", I just get a lot of email so it's checking that and responding to it, then checking Twitter/Amazon/Market for updates.

I just picked up my Inspire yesterday. Coming from an iPhone 3Gs and it's a remarkable improvement. Rooted and flashed a new ROM with no problems at all. Battery life isn't bad, on stock I got nearly a full day using it pretty constantly.
yeah i think people are crazy to talk that the battery life is bad. I just pulled off a 36 hour battery life with the display still using about 40% of the battery life. Most people i see getting good battery life barely have their phone on. I sync 2 facebook's and 3 emails and am addicted to a few new games. if you don't find 30+ hours impressive with a 'medium' usage then you shouldn't own a smartphone.
..
I had an Aria and loved the little power house but went to the cappy for the bigger screen. Now that I have another HTC phone all I can say is that you will have your Aria back with a bigger screen and hella faster than your lost Aria. Loosing your Aria is the best thing that could have happened to you get the Inspire and I know you won't be disappointed
It will be like you found your Aria and someone had got a hold of it and took it to there nerd basement lol and added all kinds of new gadgets to the phone and then put it back so you could find it

Don't let the battery size deter you away from this phone it's possible to get a full day's use with average use, I'm near a computer pretty much all day so im able to charge to my liking but its possible make the battery last. The phone is powerful, if you loved the Aria you'll love this
The Inspire is a great phone, but the battery life isn't that good. Still, I totally recommend it. Just be sure to charge your phone every night and take a charger or at least a usb cable with you.
1 - Yes there are several "stock" Inspire ROMs - just check out the dev section of the fourms - a lot of support there.
2 - Battery life isn't the best but it's to be expected when you consider the screen size - with moderate usage I get slightly worse battery life than my old iPhone 3G.
When I was getting a new phone, it was a choice between the Atrix and the Inspire. I went with the Inspire as it was cheaper, completely oblivious to the wonders of the devs here and the amazing community. Looking back, if the Atrix was the same price as the Inspire, I'd still go for the Inspire.
My friend (who sold me this phone) got an Atrix for himself and wanted me to help him root it; after growing accustomed to the Inspire's boards, I was simultaneously shocked and underwhelmed by the Atrix's rom offerings.
The phone isn't perfect, no phone is, but I'd be hard pressed to come up with reasons that I don't like it. Battery life is short compared to other phones, but longer compared to others, plus I can always last the day with moderate-heavy use (for me). In short, the battery is smaller than average, but this is rarely a problem for me.

Do you recommend the Droid Charge?

So... I lost my DINC last week and I can pay Assurion 90 bucks for a replacement (probably used and probably one of the later models without the AMOLED screen) or... Verizon said I can get a new Droid Charge for 199. I've heard so much bad stuff about the Thunderbolt that I'm tempted to just go ahead and get the Droid Charge. I think the phone looks gorgeous, but I'm worried Samsung will be slow with the Android updates. I can live with that really.... I'm just wanting something that is fast, nice to look at and use and has good battery life. It also looks like the Charge has a nice useable camera in comparison to HTC phones. While, I might miss Sense.... I don't dislike the way the Charge looks.
Are you happy with yours? Any thoughts or extra info?
Get a charge i have both.

About the updates. Because its a "Droid" phone the updates might be quicker. I would think if they didn't give good updates it wouldn't just hurt samsung but the droid line. because if someone hears the droid charge didn't get so and so update the normal person would think the whole line of droids is bad. I'm just guessing and if this doesn't make sense sorry I'm very tired

i got the charge and after a week and a half, i went to a thunderbolt
pro:
-awesome looking screen, great for under the sun
-good camera quality
con:
-camera takes ages after taking a picture, to be ready to take another photo (2-5 seconds) I've missed multiple great photo ops in the week i owned the charge.
-rtf system lags, and the voodoo lagfix is a bandaid. even the animation of speedtest apk studders (when it's scanning for a server)
-4g reception is poor, average of 5mb/1mb. most places my wife's thunderbolt got 4g, the droid charge didn't(sitting at a restaurant, at the park etc.). additionally, since i got the thunderbolt, my 4g average has been 10mb/3mb
-randomly lost all signal and takes about 15-20 seconds for it to be restored
i would most likely never touch another samsung phone until they come out with another nexus
i also have both phones but prefer the thunderbolt ... sense is faster and smoother than touch wiz, the social integration, i think, is better, if that matters to you...also the browser seems to perform better and the keyboard (or any of the replacement ones) feels 'snappier' on the thunderbolt than the charge ... now the charge is really good in sunlight, as someone said, which can NOT be said for the thunderbolt ... big minus for the 'bolt, as i use my phone outdoors a lot!!
games seem to lag more (angry birds, etc.) on the charge and i've also already scratched the back of the charge in several places, inadvertently, and there are two little 'pits' in the screen of the charge
while there are plusses and minuses of both, i find myself using the 'bolt more as it's just all around, a much faster phone ... at least in my experiences.
Sounds to me like someone with a h**d-on towards Samsung. Obviously I only have a couple of weeks worth of experience with the Charge, I got it the day they released it a couple Saturdays ago. But I drive a truck so I am in and out of a lot of different 4G areas. I run speedtest.net as I am going through areas and I find the speeds on average to be well above what you are claiming here. Not only am I running the speed tests, they are being run on my laptop which is connected to the phone via wifi hotspot. Have I seen some 4-5dn/1-2up 4g speeds? Sure but I have also seen 21.6/8.5 in the greater Cincinnati area !! So far I have been able to test speeds in Detroit, Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, OH, Cincinnati, Charlotte, NC. The vast majority of the time I am seeing speeds of between 10 & 15 mbps on the downstream with 12mbs being a fair average. Suprisingly enough, much of the time the upstream speeds are similar to the downstream!! From my experience, the ping times are 75ms on average with a high in the 110 range and low of about 65ms. This is real world testing in many different 4g areas ...
As for the Charge? I love it. I personally don't like the feel of the HTC Sense overlay. I know many love it and good for you!! Plus, the T-Bolt doesn't even come with Swype installed on it !! As stated, I am all over the place and I have never once had any type of issues with lack of signal. I am on the phone a heck of a lot during the course of my day and it has always been rock solid ...
I drive a truck also and I can agree with you. My Co-Driver has the Bolt and our 4G speeds are close most of the time. The Bolt does get better ping times sometimes, and it kicks the Charge's ass in a Quadrant test, but Im assuming that's due to more RAM. On another note, both of our phones were charged this morning and ATM mine is at 40% and his just died.
Another thing I really love about this phone is the media player. Its AWESOME! That was a really big issue for me, as I listen to alot of music and I like it loud. I've had the OG, DX, the Thunderbolt, and I still have an iPhone, and the media player on this phone kills all of the others. With the exception of the iPhone, the others don't get loud enough. The music clarity even trumps the iPhone and I have a $500 set of Shure headphones that I listen with.
My opinion is that the Charge is a great phone and even though the Thunderbolt is faster, its at the expense of poor battery life. Once the developers open this phone up though I think it is really gonna make a big difference. It may not be the fastest, but its well-rounded and will be a great phone to ensure you keep that Unlimited data plan, until something better comes along.

Upgraded from my problematic Thunderbolt and no regrets. I love the Charge.
As everyone else before me replied, I also have both. I definitely prefer the Charge over the TB, but really it depends on the end user: you. Which do you like better? Which can you see yourself using for a while?
You can read over a thousand posts from people like us, and each will prefer one over the other. So take everyones replies with a grain of salt, including mine.

I have the tbolt and my cousin has the charge. I think they are both great phones.
The charge has a better screen and battery life (out of the box) imo.
The tbolt I believe has better dev support atm, since the charge just came out. People complain about the battery of the tbolt, but im rooted with the extended battery, in 4g area and my battery lasts 1 1/2 days on moderate to heavy use.
I think the pros and cons to each are slim, it just depends on what you prefer. Go to the Verizon store and compare them both. I think you will be happy either way.

Thank you for all your input!
I luckily had my lost DINC returned to me today, so I'm still going to go tomorrow and check out the Droid Charge and see if it begs me to take it home. Now, I just am not so desperate.
While I love everything about HTC phones, I think the display on the TB looks like crap. I got my DINC the day it came out before the amoled shortage and the switch to SLCD and that alone is the reason why I cried when I lost it. If the Thunderbolt got better battery life and had a nicer display, I'd def. go that route.... but until HTC brings an LTE phone to Verizon with a display as nice as the ones Samsung makes... I think I'm moving towards Samsung. I'm just trying to weigh the positives and negatives of going with the Charge now or seeing what else Samsung throws our way and when Verizon officially pulls the plug on unlimited data. (Not that I'm a data hog, but with 4G and all the great things that it can do, it seems pointless to be limited for something that doesn't cost them nearly as much as they are passing on to us.)
The Charge is the first "modern phone" I had in years. My previous was an HTC Windows Mobile at least 3 years old, maybe older than that. And before that were Palm phones.
I spent time debating between the Thunderbolt and the Charge and I really couldn't be happier I went with the Charge. I'm in NYC so I have 4G all the time pretty much. Speed tests as high as 25 mbps down and 10 up.
My deciding factor on the Charge vs. Thunderbolt was battery life. I can't imagine having to constantly keep a Thundebolt plugged in all day and 8 hours of life with average use was not acceptable to me at all. The Charge battery life I can live with. I just went 2 days without charging it with light use, and even under heavy use a nightly charge is all that is needed.
Unfortunately I took the OTA update as soon as I turned it on so hoping for a new rooting possibility so i can remove/freeze the bloatware but that would have been an issue with the thunderbolt too.

[Battery] Epic Touch 4G Battery With The Fascinate

So after reading about vibrant users having success with using the epic touch 4g battery. I figured I'd order one up. Why? Well both of my batteries are a year old and I can tell they have degraded over time. And this one is 300mAh MOAR!!!! than the stock 1500mAh battery that came with this device.
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=28506
The new battery is just about 1/64th of an inch thicker than the fascinate stock battery but it still works with the stock battery cover. Just into the first full charge and I can tell a difference already with screen on time at an hour with 84% left. Where normally after an hour of screen from a full charge I would be at 70%. The one thing I notice though is the battery does not charge in my spare charger that I got from vzw a year ago. It must have the same hardware check that the phone does. But since I'm running an mtd rom it charges fine in the device since the hardware check is not included within mtd kernel source.
***TOUCH WIZ USERS*** The fascinate has a hardware check that will only allow for the use of "vzw" specific batteries. So before you order one confirm that your current custom kernel has the hardware check disabled and that you can use/charge 3rd party batteries.
good day.
how do you check for the hardware disable. im running on the GeeWiz 2.0 Alpha EI20
Ask whoever compiled your kernel.
I've been using the Epic 1500 mah batteries for a long time now. I was getting them off eBay for $2 a piece including shipping brand new out of China. Just ordered 2 more this morning, although they've gone up to ~$4 each with shipping. I use two external aftermarket chargers as well, so I rarely ever charge them in the phone. That's why I've never understood the battery life worry, I just carry a spare battery. (Have 7 now, but we have two fascinates in the house)

errr right.... But the battery in the the op is from the sgsII line and not the original sgs variants. The fact that the epic sgsII came stock with 1800mAh is what I was interested in.
good day.
Yeah I realize that, my point was even though that battery is cheaper than the OEM battery for our phone, the battery I mentioned is still a fraction of each. At $3.70 a battery I can have a lot of 1500 mah batteries to one 1800 mah batteries. Although I may have to check eBay and see if I can find the new 1800 ones dirt cheap too.
Nice info chopper

Thanks for the great info. Just ordered one for my Fascinate running MIUI/Glitch. The additional 20% in battery capacity will definitely be welcome.
I too just ordered one, I need the extra battery, I eat it up at work and then dont have enuf left for the night time. I love my phone and I always seem to need to do something on it.
Very pleased so far. I wanted to give a couple charge cycles and time to settle in. But it almost feels like them good ole DJ05 days of yesteryear in the battery department with this thing. I had ALOT of downtime today at work and hammered the device (found a sweet disc golf game and logged about 1 1/2 just on that ) today and just watched the battery level trickle down. And even did some maps with gps today (who knew there are like 4 sheridan rd's on the north side of chicago that run e/w and n/s) cause we got lost.
Background of my current set up:
Pool Party 1.4.1 (mtd rom) which includes jt0912 kernel within rom.
I sync gmail and have fancy widgets update every hour. Twitter is done via a colorize widget that I have set to manually update when I feel like it. The rest of the screen time is reading emails and xda and rootz apps with some surfing in between gaming. My screen brightness setting is always at 45%. Oh yeah forgot, 25 minutes of talk as well.

Ohhh the dj05 days.. I miss those much. Used to listen to music all day at work, 8 hours of media server running and some web surfing and would get home and still have 80% battery left.. Wish someone knew why that service release sipped the juices so slowly..

I got the new Epic Touch 4G battery yesterday. I charged it to 100% with the phone off, rebooted into recovery and cleared Batt Stats. Today I'm going to let the phone run down to almost nothing before charging again. Any other suggestions for maximizing battery life?
Also, Chopper I noticed your Cell Standby is much lower than mine, I'm at 24% and my Display is at 14% with only 1h 25m time on. Any suggestions on improving/reducing Cell Standby battery usage?
I'm running MIUI 1.9.16, the last Glitch kernel, and the EC09 radio.
Thanks.

Move to a better signal area, haha.
You could try updating your PRL (*228 option 2).
Just ordered mine, should get to me late next week. I chose Economy shipping cause I am poor as all-get-out.
Also, Google Checkout is probably one of the best things evar. Don't need to register with ANOTHER site? Okay, thanks Google.
Well, shoot. Was gonna post a big hullabaloo about finding this battery in the Vibrant forums, and I've been beaten to the punch. Oh well. Here's what I was gonna write. Er... copy and paste?
Hello there, Fascinate people! Visitor from the Vibrant forums here. We found and tested an 1800mah battery that, while intended for the Epic Touch 4G, fits and works perfectly in the Galaxy S and all it's variants. I've personally tested it in a Samsung Fascinate and a Samsung Vibrant. The Fascinate was a tighter fit than the Vibrant, but the battery door closed just fine.
I've personally tested the battery over the past week and it lasts significantly longer than the default 1500mah battery (I'm a relatively new Vibrant user, so my battery is only a couple months old). The math seems to match up with the 1800mah claim. To be clear, this isn't as surprising as it would be if this were a random Chinese ebay battery. This battery is made by Samsung for the Epic Touch 4G. It's noticeably thicker than the stock Galaxy S battery, but not so thick that the battery door on the Vibrant and Fascinate won't close completely.
The battery can be found here:
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wireless/store/productdetail.asp?productid=28506
I spent quite a bit of time trying to find the best 3rd party battery for my phone, and lo and behold, the best one comes from Samsung itself.
If you'd like to read more than just my humble opinion, here is a link to the thread started in the Vibrant forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262035
Hope this information is helpful. Enjoy your Galaxy S!
this battery does indeed work very well. the battery is bigger and the door does fit tight, but the door does close completely. just started using it and am noticing significant gains after 12 hours of use. I will post back after a few charge discharge cycles with current setup and screenshots.

I have two of those.chargers, never used the USB port though. Mine did not come with cables though, you can use.the stock one if you wanted. I've bought 8 batteries out of Hong Kong, all OEM Samsung batteries, never had an issue or problem. Just got 2 in the mail today actually. If you have an external charger and multiple batteries there really isn't much of a reason to plug your phone in on a regular basis anyways.

can you link me to the ones that you buy? I just ordered the naztech one but i can return it if its a huge cost/efficiency difference

new battery makes a world of difference!!!

I noticed one day that my battery stats wouldn't reset after charging it or a battery pull. If the battery was anywhere above 50% and I did a pull, it would restart showing 100%. It ended up getting to the point that I couldn't use the phone for more than 5 minutes straight because it would die. I've had the phone almost a year, so I didn't think the battery would go out so quickly.
I went to the Tmobile store and they pulled the battery and told me to feel it. There is a hump/rounding that happens to the battery when it is shot or overcharged or something like that.
I got my replacement in yesterday and charged it to 100%, then did a battery calibration this morning at 0430 after I took it off the charger. Here it is 0032 and I have 25% battery life left! Now, I am running Juicy Defender in aggressive mode, so I'm sure that helps quite a bit.
Other than that, I've been running CM7's last nightly (#252 I think), Radio 26.09.04.26, and kernel faux 1.0.7 CFS+ low voltage.a
I wanted to share in case anyone was having similar issues. I also forgot to mention that I got the battery for free and just had to pay for the standard ground shipping. Can't beat that!!

Well, screen on time is the real teller. Usually between 3 and 4 hours. When you see people getting 4 plus, you know their ROM/kernel/tweaks combo is dialed.
To illustrate, I charged and unplugged my phone before bed. When I got up it was at 11h 5m, 100%. But it had been laying there. 10 min after I started using it, it started dropping.

pinch the battery around the middle and slide your fingers toward the top of it (away from the contacts), then reverse. See if you feel a rounding or slight hump. If you do, then you might be due for one.
Can't really feel it.can it be something else or only cause of that?.does it have to feel or can the bump be noticeble too
Same here, I bought a new battery last week and this new battery is making one hell of a difference. Getting over a day with heavy usage on the new battery (straight Modern Combat 3, Sonic 4 Ep1 and Frontline Commando all day).

I really dont know what to tell you other than take it into a store and see if they can get you a replacement or troubleshoot it for you. I'm not an expert, so I dont want to pass bad information. This just happened to work for me and I thought it would help others. Good luck!
If they do charge you for the battery, try looking into the anker 1550 mAh batteries that estallings15 mentioned. They worked for him.

I wish I had taken pictures of my old Motorola battery. It was bulging so badly that it should have been on TV's The Biggest Loser. The cells will expand in time. The replacement battery actually rattled around for the first few months.
I highly recommend the 3rd party battery, that has 1800 ( or 1700) mah and is not extended. Fits perfectly and it gives you easy 18 hours with heavy use

Hmm, I think that I may be having the same problem actually. How did you go about telling them about your problem/getting them to replace it? You say that you're running CM7, so you're rooted and installed a custom ROM, which would void the warranty. Did the T-mobile employees give you any hassle with that?

Bad reading of battery charge level.

Tried cheap 9$ 3500mAh battery (tests included)

I found this one 3500mAh and ordered it : http://www.ebay.com/itm/251065892927
for 9$ I'm willing to give it a try (and even though it may be the exact same one from a chinese seller, I prefer to have it ship from a US location).

Yea I received it a week ago, I like it so far.
The battery door you can tell is cheap when you get it, however I've gotten use to it fast, the slightly rubberized texture is a nice feel for me and seems to fit better in my hands now.
After about 2, 3 days of charge up, drain down, charge up it seems to be nicely consistent now in the power usage can easily get a couple of days out of it before needing a charge (mostly on account of both my SetCPU profile and undervolting table).
Basically once fully charged it could take about 1.5-2 hours before it would end up showing 99% on stuff like Google Music, email, Facebook, etc.
A battery screenshot back when I was doing a bit of music and background notifications (fb, email, twitter, Skype, etc logged in and notifying around 10-15 minute mark), screen not on as often, but I don't usually have my screen on all that often especially as I don't normally sit thru a game that long.
Charges pretty fast at least.
I don't remember 100% what I did at what specific time frame, but I know from 42% to 36% I was watching an Episode of Heroes so bout 40ish minutes of netflix there.
EDIT (7/26/2012):
I drained the battery down til the phone died, and used a battery monitoring app to measure the mV charging back up from 0% to 100%. Also a mAh measurement of the battery. (took about 5 hours to drain the battery down with everything running GPS, 100% screen, wifi, bluetooth, FM radio, 90%+ CPU load, etc)
Thanks for the info, I will definitely be getting one.
Hopefully it will render the same results for my phone.

Lol It's not that big, I can actually put it in my pant's pocket just fine. If I can still wrap my first set of knuckles around the lip of the phone it's still not too thick, notice that the whole thing is not thicker than the width of my thumb.

Being that I'm in the United States (Grand Rapids, Michigan), and the seller was also in the United States (Georgia) I paid 6/21 Thursday and received it on monday morning 6/25. One of the reasons I picked this seller was because shipping was from the US and not from China, even if the product itself was probably identical to the Chinese shippers.
If you were in Holland, Michigan (which is bout a half an hour drive from me) you'd probably get it in the same time frame. Not sure about Georgia, USA to Holland (EU), probably faster than from Shanghai maybe.
With the latest EliteKernel I'm getting even better battery life (primarily in screen off mode) so will probably be posting another screenshot in the next day or so.

The one I bought is 3500mAh (should say the same on that specific ebay listing).
Yea CM9 was eating my battery like crazy which is why I switched over to EliteMod ICS (based on the CM9 Kernel, but uses AOKP for the rest of it and his own tweaks).

Yea I find it easier because the extra 'lip' on the battery door makes it easier to grasp when working in landscape mode. Normally landscape isn't a problem if you're not using the keyboard at all, but once you slide out the keyboard the working thickness you have to grab onto is effectively halved with the original battery door.
Wow, ~2 days of battery life? Is it really worth the extra bulk, though? And how long does it take to fully charge?

The day it arrived it took about 4-5 hours to be considered 'charged', when I first got it, it said 66% but thats because it was going off the info from the stock battery when it was actually near dead. So for a couple hours it'll actually say 99% until it finally hits the top at 100%. It takes a couple of days for the battery stats to become accurate it seems, but you could go a full day easy after the first 5-6 hour charge.
I've gotten setCPU profile tweaked and undervolting as low as I can while keeping 122-1286 stable, but I don't use it 24/7 at full brightness so yes it could go without a charge for over a day and a half. (though seems longer now that the new EliteKernel is actually easier on the battery once again).
With my original stock 1300mAh battery if I were to keep it in standby I could probably best around 18-20 hours, but that is if I didn't actually have the screen on most of the time.
If I get a chance to actually run down the battery I'll get a screenshot.
Far as the bulk, it actually doesn't bother me as much as some people may think, I actually prefer the cheap semi-rubberized backing on it to the chrome door, and it's easier for me to grip especially in landscape orientation, and I don't wear tight jeans or anything like that. But yea may seem like a brick when our phones are getting thinner and thinner.
I went with that ebay listing because I didn't like how some of the more expensive offerings (22 to 80$) had a dome-like covering over the speaker as opposed to the flat flush that this has, and the gamble thus far seems to have paid off.
Hmm this is sort of unrelated to the main topic, so I'll apologize, but:
Recently, my Desire Z got some water damage. Seems to be working fine at the moment, but I notice the battery's been overheating, despite relatively moderate use, and playing games such as Bloons TD resulted in a considerably toasty back cover. Does this seem like a good time to switch out my battery?
Short answer yes, why not try out the one in the op? Seems promising!

Thanks for answering! I'm considering a 1800mAh one though, as I prefer retaining the phone's original exterior appearance.
I just got mine about two weeks ago so here is my review. I ordered the same one as the OP on ebay and paid $6. This is one of the best mods done to my phone! I can easily get 3-4 days out of my phone before having to charge. I'm on stock GB. Sure it ads weight and thickness but not having to worry about my phone making it through my 12 hour work shift is well worth it. I previously had a 2200mah ebay battery made for the Evo 4G. The battery door no longer fit so I just used a cheap ebay case. I could get 12-14 hours out of it, but it started to wear out and I was lucky to get 10 hours out of it. This 3500mah battery is def worth it.

Good to know, I been pretty much on EliteMod ICS since I had the battery, but least your post gives me kind of an idea what stock would be like (or better yet what something like G2Lite 1.6 would be like).
Trying to drain down my battery, wasn't draining fast enough. So grabbed a battery draining app, gps, screen to 100%, BT, CPU load up.
Got setCPU profile set to 1286mhz, performance governor. And Spirit FM running in the background.
It's down to 33% so far, once I can get it under 5% or so I'll get it plugged in and charging up so can get an idea of the battery's minimum mv vs maximum mv, and 'measured' mAh. I previously did it from 29% to 100% with a measured mAh around 2700.
