Can't keep wifi connection and other issues - G Tablet General

the G tab won't hold a connection for more than 30 minutes. It won't connect at all with my router unless it's within 8 feet. I'm running stock TNT, but had been running VEGAN 5.1.
I also can't seem to get Clockworkmod to work at all now. I cleaned everything I could when I first started having this issue when running Vegan. Tried to reinstall CWM, and now i'm just getting the cardboard box and arrow no matter what I do.
Halp.

Try installing Bekit's CWM v.08 from this page.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
Then I suggest reflashing the ROM of your choice with Wipe Data & Cache.
It may be you have a corrupt installation.
VEGAn 5.1 gives me no issues with Wi-Fi connection whether im 5ft away all the way across the house.

actually I've done that. I can't seem to get CWMOD to run. I do everything like I had originally, but now when i do power and + volume, I get the Gtablet screen and not CW.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892090
Follow that and make sure your command file is there and correct. It deletes after the first boot. If you are powering on with power/vol+ and not going into cwm then its not installed

Vegan 5.1 installed. WiFi is stil
scanning.. connectin.. disconnected.
if i'm within feet of the router it will obtain the IP and connect. Then just crap itself later.

have you tried rebooting the router and are you using wep?

I've really done everything. tried several networks, rebooted router(s) wep wpa, everything. wifi has just decided to stop working on my tablet. TNT, Vegan. Doesn't matter.
I'm exchanging it.

yep...I would...sounds like a bad wifi

Unfortunately it's been just over 14 days since I purchased it and Office Depot will not exchange items after 14 days.
Great.

Have you tried connecting to a different router other than the one that's giving you issues with the gtab? Have you been able to tether the gtab to an android phone that supports it?
Perhaps tried to connect to an open connection other than your own?
I remember having that issue and it wasn't the gtab perse but I forgot I had set the security on my router to only allow devices with the mac addresses that I entered into the security settings of the router. So even though I was able to connect it would disconnect me shortly after obtaining an IP address.
If you're able to connect to another router you would know for a fact that it's not your gtab but the router you're trying to connect with.

I've tried connecting to a number of routers both open and secured. Same issue and it has progressively gotten worse. I simply cannot connect at all now. There were some issues with connectivity since day one but now it is all but unusable.

Oy Vey, I'm not entirely sure wifi hardware that was once working even if only sporadically can go bad but you mention the grace period for return has passed but it may still have warranty available from viewsonic available to you.
Perhaps you should follow proceedures to return the device back to out of the box stock condition and put in for an RMA from viewsonic.

found out I was on my last day of being able to return, unlike I thought. Exchanged it and got a new tab. Everything about this one is better. Screen, camera angle, CONNECTIVITY.
Just a bad unit I guess. Newer build date by over a month.

I've seen a similar issue, but it only seems to relate to routers broadcasting WEP.
At work they still use WEP - shocking I know - but they do...anyways...it no worky there.
but at home I"m WPA/WPA2 and it fires up just fine...

Captivate WiFi issue?

My captivate has a problem. It'll connect to WiFi no problem. Unfortunatly, after a while (could be anywhere from long 30 seconds to a few minutes) the WiFi stops sending data. I have to disable/reenable wifi to get it to work again. It still says connected to network, it just won't receive data.
Anyone know of this happening, have a fix, or maybe what I should look for that might be causing this issue?
I disabled recently installed running apps, no help.
I did try a speedfix last night, and it was unsuccessful, and I uninstalled it. Didn't test enough after that to know for sure if it was the issue, but I don't think so.
It was like, I was going through google reader, started a youtube vid, paused it, restarted it, and it wasn't loading. Just wouldn't load. That's when I think the problem started, and I haven't installed anything since then, that i haven't disabled/uninstalled.
Have you tried flashing the stock OS. Maybe this will help. My wifi has been solid so far but i will see if i get a problem like yours. Try reflashing. If it doesn't work post back.

I have the exact same issue on enterprise class cisco wifi APs. The only difference is the symptom is immediate, and not after an interval of time.

I'm thinking of this, but I don't know...
I have my music on my computer, I have my .apk's in a folder and my market synced with appbrain. Anything else I need to do? Will appbrain reset, and make me go find and reinstall everything?
What about the apps that I paid for, what happens to them?
Would be my first flash, and I'm thinking about flashing one of those I9000 roms, but that would be a last ditch effort. I really hope to avoid this.

It's an AT&T U-verse router, and only started a few hours ago, as near as I can tell.
I experience the same phenomenon of dropped wifi, and it occurs at any AP, but I have an interesting twist.
One time out of twenty when I start wifi, the 3g icon doesn't go away, but stays up on the status line with my wifi icon. On those rare occasions, my wifi stays solid for days. Unfortunately, it's random and rare.
same issue
My Wifi stops sending data and the 3G still shows. Sometimes restarting the router helps and sometimes nothing helps.
For anyone that might find this later, turns out (after two rom flashes) it was the router. I found this out when connecting my laptop to it. Surprised the captivate didn't admit it lost connection though.
I wish that were the case for me. My Captivate stays connected, but stops receiving at many different APs--Home, Starbucks, airport. I need a solution or a Scotch.
Peter
I had this exact problem, I tried a factory reset and it was still broken. I exchanged my phone and now it works perfectly holding a signal (except for enterprise 802.1x ap's which are known to be broken). (Also if you run dd-wrt check your logs for "deauthenticated due to local deauth", there is a problem with the wpa/wpa2 modules in either android or dd-wrt that they are not compatible with each other).
I actually found this searching for a solution to my own issue with WiFi. I actually fixed it while I was reading this. Unfortunately I have AT&T DSL with 2wire Modem. I went into the setting and setup MAC filtering and assigned it it's own IP. It has worked flawlessly for the past hour. I know this probably will not help when at other locations but at least at home I have a good connection.

Same router type as mine that lost it originally. Interesting, wonder if there is a connection? Or random coincidence.
I'm having a wifi issue as well, but not to the extent others have.
I connect fine, but it appears as though my data download speed is capped at <2mbps for both wifi and 3g?
My wife's iPhone is getting download speeds of over 10mbps on the same wifi network and >3mbps over 3g.
Is it worth flashing back to stock? or is this a known issue?
I'm running stock JH3 with SRE 1.2.1a with lagfix
I have this same issue and it's really random. Running JH2, sometimes it works on wifi, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes disabling\re-enabling wifi fixes it, but rebooting the phone always fixes it. Really frustrating...

[Q] Strangely isolated WiFi issue

Hi all,
Captivate with Cognition 2.2B9.1.1
Android 2.2
Belkin router (it is at home so I can't get the model number right now)
The simple problem is that my captivate will connect to all of the other wifi networks that I use but it stopped connecting to the one at home. All other phones and computers in the house connect just fine. The interesting thing is that when you watch the connection status on the phone, it connects and then immediately disconnects and starts the handshake over again. I have watched this happen over and over again. Weird.
I first thought it was my router so I modified the settings by using different channels and security methods. No dice. I then reset my router to factory specs and still nothing. I want to blame the router but I am stuck thinking that it might be the phone. Is there a way to purge the WiFi and IP information? I would rather not dump my phone and restart if I can avoid it. Can this be done through a terminal app like other platforms?
Any ideas or similar experiences?
Thanks ahead of time.

So I dropped an updated Cognition Rom 2.3.b6 and solved the issue. Last night I cleared my RAM (level 1 and level 2) and when I got home the problem occurred again. Bizarre. Could I be clearing a cache that refuses to refresh? Ideas?

Wifi Issues

I dont know if anyone is experiencing this but randomly my G Tablet goes insane with the wifi. It goes into an almost infinite loop of turning wifi on, scanning, connecting, and disconnecting. It doesn't happen often just that when it does it becomes nearly impossible to correct.
This happened on my first G Tablet running TnT Lite 2.2. I had returned that one and recently this one has begun go do that too on TnT Lite 2.4. It has happenned in three different networks. The only remedy seems to turn airplane mode on, turn off or move away from any networks, turn off airplane mode, and then turn on wifi again. Either that or the tablet freezes and reboots on its own.

Yes, I just posted that this happened to me this morning on Vegan ROM beta 3. That's the first time it's happened. I rebooted, and it happened again on wake. Rebooted again, and it hasn't happened again since.
So two times out of maybe a hundred sleep/wake cycles for me so far. Not sure what to make of it.
This never happened to me with ZPad ROM, which I ran for the first two to three weeks that I had my G Tablet.
My understanding is that ZPad uses a different wifi driver than TNT Lite and Vegan ROM, which share the same wifi driver. So I suspect this is a driver glitch of some sort.
This happened about 4 or 5 days ago to me. I rebooted and it never happened again.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I've seen this a few times with TnT Lite 2.4 as well.
Happens to me all the time on tnt lite 2.4. Most often just after waking from sleep. And it really hates my 802.11n access point. Happens a lot less on a b/g network.
Anyone else getting really miserable signal strength unless you're in direct line of sight in the same room?
I have the same problem with the continuous loops. Even turning on airplane mode doesn't do the trick anymore. I have to fully power down and then power up again to rectify the issue.
It has problems connecting to my Home WiFi but I can tether using my Evo's Hotspot app with no problem. Very strange.
I use the TNT Lite 2.2 ROM.
I am having the same problem with tnt lite. On unsecured routers it connects perfectly. With security though - no go - endlessly connecting and disconnecting. Turn the security off the router and it connects fine. At home, forcing a static ip seems to work most of the time but elsewhere - forget it. It is the one thing that is spoiling my otherwise excellent experience with the gtab. It seems like it has been a problem for a while but no ones seems to have addressed it in patches, etc. If I knew how, I'd do it myself.
I'm experiencing some Wifi issues. Wifi is on and appearing to receive, connected to my network yet unable to access the internet.
The fix:
1. Go to settings, Wifi and settings, instead of choosing from a scanned network input my own SSID and encryption code.
2. Choosing "never" for under the advanced settings, as your wifi sleep policy from the drop down list.
wireless connectivity data
So I've been pissing and moaning for a week now about sketchy connectivity. Today I did two things, both of which "fixed" my problems. At work I reset the Netgear wireless to factory defaults then configured it for encryption and the gtab happily connected to it for the rest of the day. At home I replaced the netgear with a Linksys wrt54g running tomato o/s and theconnection was immediate and stable. Go figure. So if you are having wireless connectivity issues you may want to check on your router. Curiously, my Droid x has had no problems with any of these routers. Good luck!

Mine seems fine all through the one story house with alumenim siding, but I use a b/g router. i took the tablet on a cross-country train (Denver) and i had the choice of a dozen or so signals from the sleeper whenever we were rolling down the tracks through towns and cities. Actually I am quite surprised at the reception coverage. At the local B&N, i could see networks of several adjacent stores and their tech guy was surprised to see what the WiFi Analyzer app display showed him.

Maddening wifi problems with Captivate

Ever since I got my Captivate, it has had issues with wifi. It's not my routers, or any configuration in my routers, as it happens with 3 different routers (not to mention that I work in IT, so it's definitely not the routers).
Here's what it does. When you start with a fresh boot, it works perfectly fine. As the day goes on, it gets worse; it starts dropping the connection randomly, and eventually stops working altogether. This wouldn't be so bad of a problem, but the point that it "tries" to start accessing a wifi AP, it drags the phone down in speed, eventually freezing, causing me to ave to reboot the device.
I already tried all options with wifi sleep policy; I've tried 3 different ROMs; I've tried clearing all wifi settings and letting the ROM generate a new .conf file, I've tried different wifi firmwares. Nothing works as it should.
What should I do now? Does anyone have any tips for me? I know it's the OS and not the phone, because the last ROM that worked perfectly was Perception 4.
Thanks for the help.
Easy fix I found.
Open Allshare, it should have come pre-installed.
Connect.
Your Wi-Fi problem should be fixed.
You will have to repeat this step when switching between locations, or when you come back to the troublesome router. I don't know why this works, but it does. It seems to have helped alot of other users in other forums with this problem. Maybe someone should make a sticky of this...seems to be a big problem with 2.2 Foryo.
Similar experiece with both an EVO and Captivate with a Linksys router and DLink wireless AP. Whenever I walked into the house, the other PCs attached to the router would stop working, the phone would not get data although it showed as connected and I had to reboot the router - both wired and wireless clients. The Linksys was a very old firmware and I had bad experieces with flashing a few previous devices. I ditched my Linksys for a DLink 8 port and wireless and have not had the issue with either the EVO, Captivate nor any devices attached to my network.

What if I simply remove Allshare? Will that fix the problem?

I have 2 Linksys routers with the latest firmwares, and one D-Link. No matter, it does the same thing with them all.
I should also mentioned that I already tested with changing the router's wireless broadcast channels, signal strengths, firmware updates, the whole 9 yards. The problem is the phone, not the networking equipment.
I used this on 3 Captivates in our house and they are all working great now. Had F&*%%#ed wifi issues before that. They are all ok now. Hope it lasts!

I'm not sure if that will work. I don't think this is by any means a permanent fix, but a temporary work-around. I think it just kicks the wi-fi into gear again somehow...=-(
Hope it helps someone out though.
I had a friend who was having issues with her phone not even attempting to scan for wireless, seems there is an issue on android phones that the networking cache file or whatever it is gets cluttered and needs to be renamed. (Android recreates it)
The process is rather simple, I walked my friend through the steps over the phone w/o issues.
I had her use oneclick root/unroot to root her phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=739304
Then Had her go through these steps to rename the file.
http://androidforums.com/samsung-moment/46179-unable-scan-networks.html
The steps are for a samsung moment but still work. Also noted that the steps w/o rooting do not work. After you finish renaming the file you can use the application in the first link to unroot the phone and go back to stock
SlappyMcgee seems to have the best fix
It wont hurt anything and I suggest just renaming the file to .old instead of deleting it. the entire process takes like 8 mins

Link doesn't work, at least for me.
Update:
The Allshare thing works. The problem is that it's not a feasible workaround, because you have to keep doing that every time you want to restart the wifi after the screen goes to sleep or what not.
I will next try that config file delete. I read up on that last night, but didn't think that was it, because I already did a few ROM installs which didn't seem to clear it up.

i had wifi issues and still do. my girlfried does too with her Aria. The phone really seems to only work on routers who have a DNS set to google. The bar near my house it flys and at home i was getting no wifi so I changed my router DNS to google from comcast and its fine. I agree there is a problem but not one that is going to get fixed by Google
My wifi workaround
I had two captivates which both had problems with my home router. Reseting the router never fixed the issue, but resetting the phone did, at least for a few minutes.
I found that phone has problems using DHCP with routers that assign addresses in the 192.168.1.xxx range. It seems to be a conflict with some other internal IP in the Captivate or something. To get around this problem, I had to change the local address of my router to 192.168.2.1, and change the DHCP range to 192.168.2.xxx The new subnet cleared up the problem immediately for me and it hasn't returned, at least, not on my home router. Unfortunately, this won't work on hotspots or other networks that are stuck in the 192.168.1.xxx range.

I ran into this problem on my Router. Netgear wndr3700. For some reason when I turned the wifi on my phone either the router was assigning it the same address as my Tivo or my phone wasnt accepting anything but that address. To resolve I forgot the connection my phone then reflashed the firmware on my router. Then reconfigured the wifi on my phone. After that no more issues.
Well i honestly dont know whats wrong with mine. I've done all the "fixes" in this and other threads but it doesnt work. What is weird is that it connects using All Share and only All Share. However it does connect at other places like my friend's, sister's, granparents and gf's houses. I think I'm gonna go to att and demand a new phone and an upgrade
Just wanted to post an update on this. For the most part, deleting the wifi configuration file in data\wifi seems to have cured the problem. The wifi signal did get stuck on one or two occasions, but I'm bound to believe that the issue was caused elsewhere.

[Q] WiFi Disabled

Samsung Galaxy IIS Skyrocket sghi727, ANDROID 2.3.5, Kernel 2.6.35.11, baseband I727uckj2 Build Gingerbread. AT&T network. WiFi worked ok on Home system and allowed phone to connect/transmit/receive data.
Now, it scans and identifies the Home system but gives a WiFi remembered message then a WiFi Disabled message. I can not connect the phone to the home WiFi network. I have ATT DSL with Speedstream 5600 modem and an "N" router. I have "G" appliances connected and running as well at the same time.
The home modem and WiFi system are working well (I'm on a laptop using WiFi now). I have checked the password and it is entered correctly. I have tried to "forget" and re-enter the Home system WiFi info to no avail.
I used the Skyrocket's manage applications to try to stop some of the apps that I wasn't using (Social Hub, for example) but they keep reloading. I went to the apps pages and drag/dropped those I wasn't using...they are still showing up as being in place (and taking up space) but that didn't appear to get rid of them either.
I tried a reboot. No change. Other than ATT's general disagreeableness, and my lack of knowledge on this operating system, what's causing the problem and how can I fix it? If I have a file that isn't loading or an app that isn't loading, how do I replace/repair them? What files & apps MUST run to use the WiFi?
Thank you for your assistance in this matter, I have read all the "WiFi disabled" links that the forum suggested prior to this posting.
Kev.
Hm, have you tried connecting at any other wireless spots? If you can connect to other wireless routers I would try resetting your router, see if it can connect to an all-default wireless router. If it can't connect to any wireless routers, well, you can either try flashing a different ROM or, since I get the impression you're not into rooting/flashing/messing with your phone, just take it back to the store and make them give you a new one.
I thank you!
I will try that though it was working at work the other day.
If someone has another idea, I'd like to hear that too.
Cordially,
Kev.
WiFi disabled: Solved!
OK, I finally figured it out. I had read all of the WiFi posts on the thread that mentioned WiFi & disabled. One from 2006 was for a different (ancient) phone.
My GF has an old XP desktop PC which is connected to the network via Ethernet cable. For some undetermined reason, when it hooks up to the home network, it locks any new system that is not running out. If they're up and running when it boots up, everything is fine. If they're shut off or the WiFi isn't connected, they're locked out.
The solution is to get rid of the old PC. The 2006 poster said that his phone would not connect to his WiFi if anything else connected at a different speed. Evidently this is a related phenomenon.
(At least I didn't mess the thing up!)
Kev.
