[Q] WiFi Disabled - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Samsung Galaxy IIS Skyrocket sghi727, ANDROID 2.3.5, Kernel 2.6.35.11, baseband I727uckj2 Build Gingerbread. AT&T network. WiFi worked ok on Home system and allowed phone to connect/transmit/receive data.
Now, it scans and identifies the Home system but gives a WiFi remembered message then a WiFi Disabled message. I can not connect the phone to the home WiFi network. I have ATT DSL with Speedstream 5600 modem and an "N" router. I have "G" appliances connected and running as well at the same time.
The home modem and WiFi system are working well (I'm on a laptop using WiFi now). I have checked the password and it is entered correctly. I have tried to "forget" and re-enter the Home system WiFi info to no avail.
I used the Skyrocket's manage applications to try to stop some of the apps that I wasn't using (Social Hub, for example) but they keep reloading. I went to the apps pages and drag/dropped those I wasn't using...they are still showing up as being in place (and taking up space) but that didn't appear to get rid of them either.
I tried a reboot. No change. Other than ATT's general disagreeableness, and my lack of knowledge on this operating system, what's causing the problem and how can I fix it? If I have a file that isn't loading or an app that isn't loading, how do I replace/repair them? What files & apps MUST run to use the WiFi?
Thank you for your assistance in this matter, I have read all the "WiFi disabled" links that the forum suggested prior to this posting.
Kev.

Hm, have you tried connecting at any other wireless spots? If you can connect to other wireless routers I would try resetting your router, see if it can connect to an all-default wireless router. If it can't connect to any wireless routers, well, you can either try flashing a different ROM or, since I get the impression you're not into rooting/flashing/messing with your phone, just take it back to the store and make them give you a new one.

I thank you!
I will try that though it was working at work the other day.
If someone has another idea, I'd like to hear that too.
Cordially,
Kev.

WiFi disabled: Solved!
OK, I finally figured it out. I had read all of the WiFi posts on the thread that mentioned WiFi & disabled. One from 2006 was for a different (ancient) phone.
My GF has an old XP desktop PC which is connected to the network via Ethernet cable. For some undetermined reason, when it hooks up to the home network, it locks any new system that is not running out. If they're up and running when it boots up, everything is fine. If they're shut off or the WiFi isn't connected, they're locked out.
The solution is to get rid of the old PC. The 2006 poster said that his phone would not connect to his WiFi if anything else connected at a different speed. Evidently this is a related phenomenon.
(At least I didn't mess the thing up!)

WMWifiRouter and connecting to AP

So I've installed WmWifiRouter, and I'm really happy with it as an alternative to Bluetooth DUN/PAN, however, I've run into the following issue:
Once I have WMWifiRouter installed and configured, I am no longer able to use my phone to connect to my home wireless AP. Even when WMWifiRouter is closed, it attempts to connect to the Ad-hoc network that it creates, and will not allow me to connect to my home wireless network. I tried removing the wifi settings for WMWifiRouter, only to find that it I do that, I have to reinstall the program to use it again.
Can anyone give me any suggestions as to how I might work around this issue? I know it's a beta, so there might be something there, but if anyone can help, or if anyone has gotten things to work with a similar setup, I'd appreciate it. Thanks
Is the website even up anymore? I went to it and it didn't even exist. Are they coming out with any new releases. I was also wondering if it would let us set out own WEP key
Absolutely, I JUST downloaded it yesterday...go wo www.wmwifirouter.com . And yes, it does allow the use of your own WEP key in the latest release. Can you comment on the issue I'm having?
Alternately, is there anyone who is using WMWifiRouter on their Kaiser who isn't having this problem? If so, how does yours work? What are your settings? Thanks
I don't know if this will help, but here's what I'm referring to:
It just constantly stays on connecting, and if I try to connect to another network, I get the error:
"Warning. Cannot connect to the network. Check your network and service provider and try again."
I just tried it on my Kaiser and was able to share the connection with a Dell laptop and Fujitsu tablet simultaneously. Speedtest.net showed speeds like 1120k down and 330k up. I set security WEP and could connect, but could not surf sites with I.E. but with settings changed to OPEN everything worked fine.
I too found that after I shut this down that my "normal" home wireless LAN connection would no longer connect. In fact the WiFi radio turned itself off when I turned it on and expected it to auto-connect as it did before. When I went into wifi setup on the Kaiser I found that my home connection was gone! I had to add back my home connection, re-config it's WEP settings and was then able to connect once again.
I also wonder what the "normal" behavior is supposed to be for this application when it's started. Should one be able to simply start WiFiRouter and it powers up the WiFi radio, ICS, and makes the phone ready for connections? I found that it would Not power up the radio on mine even though it seemed to claim that it was doing this.
I then tried launching WiFiRouter again and sure enough, it screws up my home access point connection profile every time by blowing away the settings and password.
I reported this on the WiFiRouter website.
Thanks so much for the reply. I just tried following the same procedure, and it worked out for me too. So weird that I actually had to delete my home wifi settings. It does work properly now though, and on my device, using DCS 1.7, it doesn't shut off my wifi when i disconnect/close the program. Thanks again for the help!
Well...sadly, my problem has cropped back up. Basically, the exact same thing is happening, but the fix that worked before is no longer working. I did get in touch with the makers, and they are aware of the problem and looking for a solution. If anyone else can help, that would be great. Otherwise, I'll try to post again if/when I get a fix. Thanks
You need to goto Wifi connections & deselect the WMWIFI AP. Then click & hold on your home AP & select connect. You may also have to turn of the DHCP in WMWIFI befor doing this, otherwise your other connections will try using it.
OK here's what I just sent to Jorrit at WiFiRouter when he asked for me to try a few things;
TEST-1 Start>Settings>Connections>WiFi "Networks to access" was set to "all available".
1-Ran WifiRouter (WFR), my wifi radio does not power up, WFR showing "Waiting for ICS and WLAN".
2-I manually powered up radio (using AnyButton Plus mapped to key).
3-WFR then connected, BUT it connected to my Home LAN. WFR's settings were set to "Force PC to PC Connection" but it connected to my AP anyway?
4-Disconnected WFR, waited a few seconds, pressed re-connect, it now properly "connected to WFR".
5-Pressed Disconnect, Pressed Quit.
6-Checked "network to access" settings, they were still set to "All available".
7-Checked wireless networks, Home LAN was still there and all settings were intact, WFR was there as well.
8-Manually powered On WiFi, instead of auto connecting to my home LAN, the radio powered itself off in about 1-2 seconds.
8-I manually powered WiFi On for the 2nd time, now I get "Cannot connect".
9-Checked wireless networks, WFR is at top of list with "Connecting" showing, Home LAN is below it, and checking it shows all settings gone.
10-I manually re-entered settings (Checked "this is a hidden network", and entered my WPA-PSK TKIP Key) and tapped "Connect". Then a dialog box opened asking for the network key again. I cancelled and the Home Lan entry disappeared from the Kaiser's network list.
11-With WiFi radio Off, I again created the home lan connection and set "networks to access" to AP's Only, Powered on the radio and it connected OK.
TEST 2 - With "all available" set, could it be the WFR is at the top of the list, and it "beats out" the normal home lan connection? Lets try AP's Only setting;
1-Left "networks to access" to AP's only and started WFR. It started normally (well, with the exception that I had to manually power up wifi) and when I checked wifi settings, "networks to access" had changed to "computer to computer" by WRF.
2-I disconnected WFR and Quit the program, it powered Off the WiFi radio, checked settings and it had switched back to "only access points", home lan was there, settings intact.
3-Powered up wifi radio expecting auto connect to home lan, No, wifi shut-off immediately again.
4-Powered up a 2nd time without touching anything, this time it connected to the home lan without issue.
So I'd say there are a couple of issues,
A-Why does the WiFi Radio shut down on the 1st attempt after quitting WFR?
B-Using "All available Networks" causes problems if WFR is at the top of the list?
C-I hate the fact that I'm the "only one who's TyTN II doesn't Power up the WiFi Radio when WFR starts"
They are working on it...
We think we have isolated the problem (once again the problem is WZC), patch should be forthcoming soon.

Wow, I hadn't expected a reply directly from you. Thanks very much. I appreciate your attention on this issue. If you have the time and might post when the patch is available, that would be great, otherwise, I'll be checking the the download site. Thanks again.

Patch will be available when it's done, can't say any more than that. We know what the problem is, but it will not be fixed easily, and the workaround is fairly complex, so it's hard to give a timeframe.
Oh, I wasn't asked for a release date, I was just hoping that you might post when it is released, whenever that may be. I really appreciate the effort you're putting into this, and totally understand that it's not a simple fix. Thanks again.
I have a different problem. I used this program and now I cannot use internet share using my tilts normal data. Very confused and now haven't had internet at home for over a week now. Does anyone know how to fix this?
I can see how that could be annoying. Please see this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1801366&postcount=158. Ignore the content, just download the file, unzip it, run the EXE on your phone. It will create two files, post those here, and maybe I can find out what the issue is.

Very strange on and off WMWifi Router problem

I've just recently bought an HTC Touch Pro on Verizon plan. I read about WMWifi Router so I decided to try it to be able to share my phone's internet connection to other devices. I also realized that Verizon had removed the Internet Sharing app, so I knew I had to get that also. I got it all to work, but it doesn't work after I shut it down and restart it. These are the details, and I apologize but it's rather long and confusing...
I got WMWifi Router first and installed it not realizing I needed Internet Sharing first. After it didn't work, I downloaded Internet Sharing, installed it, and it still didn't work with WMWifi Router. I could connect to the phone via Wifi, but I couldn't browse the net on the laptop I tried to use (Windows XP). I uninstalled both Internet Sharing and WMWifi, and then reinstalled Internet Sharing first, then WMWifi. It worked this time, and I noticed the little icon next to the "Cellular Connection" on the WMWifi screen was green this time instead of yellow or red as it had been before.
Everything worked great with good speeds. I then shut the program down. Next time I tried to use it, I had the same initial problem, wifi connection but no internet on the computer. The icon at Cellular Connection on WMWifi was also yellow again. I uninstalled WMWifi, and then tried to uninstall Internet Sharing. It told me it couldn't remove it all. I then reinstalled Internet Sharing, and I had to restart the phone. Upon restart I installed WMWifi. Everything worked this time, green icon at the cellular connection, great speeds. To test it, I shut down WMWifi and restarted it, and no internet, yellow icon at cellular connection.
During this whole process I could always get to the internet on my browser, so I always had signal, and data was turned on.
I did the whole uninstall reinstall process and it worked, with a green cellular icon on WMWifi. I turned it off again to test, again it didn't work, only this time when I tried to uninstall Internet Sharing, it didn't tell me it couldn't remove it. Then when I installed it, it didn't make me restart. Now no matter what I do, I can't seem to get it to give me a green connection on Cellular, and I get no connection to the internet.
I know it's not a problem with the computers I'm using as I've tried a couple, and I can verify it's not. It's a problem somehow with WMWifi binding to Internet sharing or something similar. Maybe I have a faulty copy of Internet Sharing? Anyone have any ideas?
to be honest, if it was me, i'd try one of 2 things.. or maybe both.
1. backup my data (you can do that using PIMBackup2.8) and hard reset since something might've screwed up the whole thing
2. pm Chainfire (the creator of WMWifiRouter) and ask him if he has any experience with this issue.
It may be related to a bug that is fixed in the upcoming 1.30 - or it might not. I'm afraid I can't really tell from here right now (I'm in Barcelona).
As your experience seems to vary a lot and you have done a bunch of things, you may need to hard-reset as well (not sure - yet - though).
You should write support @ wmwifirouter . com about this issue, so it can be handled.

Enough of this bull, I'm returning my Touch Pro 2

(Edit - I finally fixed this issue. No more bull. See latest post from me in this thread)
I have been trying for months to get Tethering or Internet Sharing to work on this device. Every hack, every edit and every .cab install I tried has not helped. There has to be something wrong with this phone.
The following is copied from another forum I posted in.
-Quotes=THE-COPS
I did the DUN removal in service menu. that is , removing "dun" from "[email protected]" . Restarted phone, started internet sharing (with internet sharing cab hack), and connected. Go to open Internet Explorer on XP, the page actually starts to load ..... but then stops doing anything after about a few KB of data .. and then refuses to connect to any site afterwards. Tried Opera on XP, nothing. I only get Network errors like there is no internet connection. Disconnected and re-connected. Still .. network errors and no page loads. Disconnect. Try tethering instead of internet sharing, again. Add the extra modem strings like was suggested. It dials, Error, there was a hardware failure in the modem. Try again,.... hardware failure... try again, wait......wait .....wait.... it just sits there while still saying "Connecting". 2 minutes pass.. still "Connecting". Hit disconnect... and it sits there forever saying "Disconnecting". I close out that window. I disconnect and restart phone and PC. Try again, no difference. Remove the strings, no difference. Go into modem config and then diagnostics window. Query modem, Error, modem failed to respond ..repeat 4 more times... on the 5th try it says "Success" and gives a list of usable strings. I decide to "Query modem" again. Error.. modem failed to respond. I repeat and it will say "Success" every 2nd or 3rd try.. every other time its a dumb error.
Keep in mind I tried with the stock data cable and it made no difference. And yes, the USB ports are 2.0 compliant and work very well.
In the following, I copied a series of lines from the Modem log. I used "L" in place of of the date to avoid having to type so much out.

I never went through so much bull and STILL not get my internet on my PC. I hope VZ has another unit in stock because I AM swapping this.
Have you considered just tethering via WiFi? I use WMWiFi Router without issue. I just re-installed after upgrading to 6.5 (MR1). It took me about 5 minutes to load ICSInstall and WMWiFi Router and be up and running. It worked just as well with the stock 6.1 ROM.
If you can't do it with WiFi, maybe try PDANet? (Haven't used it with the [email protected])
ya take ur panties out of the knot you've tied them in and just use wifi router. jeez
I cant afford Wifi hardware right now.. I figured it would come to this. I also didn't feel like spending $100 on wifi **** only to find out it will probably do the same thing as IS and tether. I think there is a problem with the internal ethernet adaptor. If that is so, then Wifi wont work either. Thank you for your opinion ... and thanks for the help secretagentman.
The ICS/Modem cab works perfectly on my VZW TP2... Just make sure the network connection is set to Verizon Wireless and it's all good. No settings to change, nothing to adjust, just plug in and go!

PdaNet works very well on the TP2 in tethered mode. It has wifi capability, but use the USB cuz my wifi is kinda funked up. Highly recommended!

Yep, try PDANet with a USB cable if you don't have WiFi. Haven't used it with the TP2, but used it all the time with my XV6800 on VZ!
This is free and works. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4170499
I decided not to go to VZW today. Someone convinced me that a USB WiFi card will work. It's not that much so I wont be breaking the bank.
I have always known about PDAnet. I don't see any reason to use it unless you're using a dumbphone and using WAP. I already pay VZW for data, why would I want to pay AGAIN for PDAnet? Thanks for the tips everyone. It's not this phone, don't get me wrong... the Touch Pro 2 is the best damn phone I have ever owned.. aside from the tethering to the PC problem. I would never trade it in for some other phone at VZW. I thought there has to be a defect in either the internal Ethernet adaptor or the internal RNDIS adaptor. There shouldn't be all these connection problems... my Q9M tethered without ANY problems, and I left it online all night.
Try the software i listed. It is free. Dont pay extra for a usb broadband plan
WMWiFiRouter works just fine using the WiFi connection -- however, I have had numerous issues with the USB tethering.
WMWiFiRouter isn't that expensive and it works. I do not have any opinion on the other suggestions since I've had WMWiFiRouter for a long time.
I have found out the the CM_Guardian_Service is the culprit when it comes to the USB tethering.
HTH
WMWifirouter is the way to go..tether via WiFi, USB or Bluetooth. Can't be beat!!
I'm confused. What's wrong with the HTC WiFi router? It's free and works great! -For Sprint at least...
I'm going to try the free one first. Actually there are 2 free Wifi apps. If the free works, then I saved a few bucks.
A Mod friend over at Smartappsworld is sending me a spare usb wifi unit. Thank you again Paul. Hopefully I can get it to work. If it does, I WILL be so relieved. I spent months just trying to get the other crap to work. I never know if it's something on the phone, or something with my computer. My PC is aged, but I keep the software up to date. The thing with XP is, it's getting too old to update. Seems like it just gets more complicated and creates more problems.
And as for CM Guardian, I disabled that long ago when I was trying to install different versions of Opera Mobile. Hasn't been running ever since.
ICS/Modem cab works perfect on my TP2 (TELUS).
My first TP2 worked in minutes of the install. The replacement phone, Bluetooth died after a week, ICS would not work. I tried everything! I thought I was losing my mind. I could not figure out why it would not work. Then I read a small detail somewhere... you have to have the SIM card in the phone or it will not work. When I picked up my replacement phone the tech never installed the sim card when he activated it. In fact he suggested I don't bother putting it in. He said to just purchase one in the place you are traveling to. I didn't care either way, I don't travel much. Once I found that little detail I inserted the sim card and PRESTO everything worked, still does.
Good luck!
I use WiFi Hotspot myself and it works every time. I did pay 25.00 for the program but it was worth every penny. I use it with my laptop and my IPOD touch when I want internet access outside of my house. It may say on their website that it does not work with Verizon but I assure you that it does as I have never had an issue connecting to the internet using the hotspot. I have had up to 3 conections at one time between my laptop, ipod and husband's laptop and we had no issues. Hope you get it working but if not I would recommend WiFi HotSpot without an issue
Update. Just got the USB WiFi device yesterday (thanks Paul). Installed software and drivers. Then installed HTC WiFi (Mobile WiFi Router) on the phone. Rebooted both. Plugged in USB Wifi, got drivers installed without hassle. Turned on Wifi app on phone and BAM, it works flawlessly. No errors... NO bull. I am SOOOOO relieved! And I might add it is much faster than that USB tethering I had on my Moto Q9M. So easy to set up , and no slowdowns whatsoever on the PC.
Thank you to everyone who helped... or tried to help. It IS appreciated.
OK, but do us Verizon users have to run the

[Q] Can't connect to home network?

Sorry for the noobish question, but I am having a heck of a time with my Droid Charge in trying to connect to my home network. Here is the skinny:
- Rooted phone successfully to gummy 1.91
- i510.06 V.EE4 / SCHI510.EE1 Baseband Version
- Home network uses NetGear 802.11n specs, WPA/WPA2 secured
- to save battery life, I turn on wifi when I am at home, or where wifi is available. I use data transfer (3g/4g) rest of the time.
Prior to and after root, I was able to successfully connect to my home network a few times, but invariably it would have a hard time reconnecting other times and would just say "Connecting...", even though my network is "Remembered" under Detected Networks. Goal would be to use wifi in lieu of data transfers to save some bandwidth month-2-month.
Based on what has transpired, I am trying to confirm if this is common, user error on my part, or something up with my phone.
Any advice you guys can give me would be most appreciated.
I've had this happen as well. Reflash the rom through recovery. I had to reflash three times before wireless would connect.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using Tapatalk
I don't mean to bring up a dead thread, but I just installed GC and I have lost my home network connectivity. It says "connecting" and then comes back with "disconnected". WEP Key is correct, but it just won't join.
Just finished installing all my apps and arranged the phone the way I want it, but now I read that I have to reflash the ROM. Is this necessary or is there another way?

Galaxy Express 3 (J120A) Not Connecting to WiFi - Cycles Between "Connecting" and SSID Not Appearing

I bought a Galaxy Express 3 (sm-j120a) on Ebay (new condition) to use as a backup phone. I began the setup process and tried connecting to my WiFi. I put in the correct password but it will constantly cycle between showing "Connecting" underneath the SSID, then suddenly the SSID disappears, then suddenly it will reappear and show "Connecting" underneath, etc. It will do this indefinitely and will never connect. If anyone has experienced this issue before and knows how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate some help.
One thing I haven't checked is whether I could update the software of the phone to the last available update. I wanted to hold off on putting in my sim card because I have a nano sim and I think the phone takes a micro sim and I don't have an adapter yet. Is there a way I can download any available updates to my computer, then send the update to the phone via a USB cable?
Thanks!
i ran into the same thing a while back with an old android phone, a samsung j120a. one day its wifi stopped working with the att modem i have, a bgw210. behavior was the same as what you described. every other wifi device in the house worked fine. tried every standard trouble shooting thing you find when you search this, including factory data reset, nothing. got hold of another phone same model... it also failed to connect to wifi on this modem, same thing.
the answer-> i resorted to playing with the wifi settings on modem, and found that the problem was with the wpa version setting- it was set to wpa 2 by default when i found it. i changed it to the setting that accepted both versions 1 and 2, and the phone's wifi now works again.
i assume at some point att updated this modem, and one of the updates was to change default setting on the wpa version, probably because wpa 2 is supposed to be more secure than wpa 1
just replying because i hate searching stuff like this and finding nothing but people asking roughly the same question without getting any answers. hope this helps somebody searching this in future
