I tried to read as many threads as possible and didn't find an answer so I am opening a new thread for help.
I have just bought a captivate from ebay and got it 2 days ago. It's still at 2.1 locked with at&t. I am a t-mobile prepaid phone user, so I unlocked the phone w/ the SGS unlock app by performing sim unlock.
So now, I am trying to use the Kies mini tool to update my phone, it says device is not supported for update, what does that mean? Was the t-mobile sim card that is causing my phone to not update? or the unlock itself? Is there other way where I can update to stock 2.2?
can any ops move this thread to the captivate general forum, I open this new thread in the wrong forum by mistake and do not know how to delete it.

Hi Guys,
I got this unlocked Samsung Captivate phone from CL. Works fine. But I was wondering, since the original nv_data.bin is no longer available, is there a way to know what is the unlock code ???
The guy from whom I purchased the phone does not respond to my emails.
Since there are cases that updating to higher Versions might ask for unlock code once again, I am just being well prepared for the worst.
Thanks

Yeah me too
Yeah me too!
As long as you stick to the ROM that was originated from Captivate ROMs, you should be fine. Most of those get screwed up and need re-apply unlock code are from flashing those European ROMs tweaked for Captivate.
Also, I read there is now a way to extract unlock code even in Froyo 2.2. I'm pretty sure Dev section has a thread about it.
i have already bought an at&t atrix 2 and im planning to unlock it. if i unlocked an at&t atrix 2 phone and use it in another country (Philippines to be exact), could it still be possible to update it?
for example,if in the future there will be Ice Cream Sandwich update, how could i update it? via OTA? or Manually? and if the update is available manually, should i still use the US updates or Asia-Pacific updates?
AT&T Atrix 2
-Stock 2.3.5
-not modded
Thanks in advance!
Well yes but you have to unlock it first
You can unlock by one of two way
1) through at&t which will not give you the unlock code easily i think for atrix 2 they will not give it to you soon ( at least after 6 months )
2)through ebay or any website that offer unlocking service
You can search for atrix 2 unlock on ebay and choose any good seller with good feedback
when i unlock mine i will tell you how i did it and if you did it please tell me how you did it
okay.. nut right now im quite confuse in choosing between t-mobile samsung galaxy s2 and att atrix 2

i havent unlocked it yet.. right now im just using the phone for further observation.. have you unlocked yours?
I just gone a used and locked Atrix 2 shipped to me in Thailand and I unlocked it. Before I unlocked it I was able to download the OTA directly from Motorola using the settings menu. I kept delaying the update until I entered the network pin unlock code I bought. I then immediately went back to the udpates menu and told it to perform the update. The phone updated from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6. So yes, in the Philippines your phone will get OTA updates whether it is locked or unlocked. I unlocked it first because Motorola recommends doing the update with an active sim in the phone. Before Motorola would let me download the update to my phone I had to activate a Motorola account (I guess blur lite) but that only took a few seconds and it did not even ask me for any information. I think it just took the info from my google account that I had already logged into on the phone. So far it is a great phone. I moved from an LG G2X so I could use 3G on a different carrier here in Thailand. So far the Atrix 2 is a much better user experience and feels much more responsive than the G2X. It has been a while since your post. Have you unlocked yours and updated it yet?

Try checking for the update with no sim in the phone. That sometimes will make the difference. You can do the update without a sim in it.

Tried to update without the Sim but still says you are up to date.
Maybe I should do a factory reset and try again tomorrow.
I posted this to the wrong board, sorry for those who have seen my question before.
I bought the SGS 4G over a year ago now, and I sucessfully rooted and unlocked the phone for use in Korea. During that time i kies'd my way up to Gingerbread which made me lose root, but it was still unlocked. I recently upgraded phones and was looking to sell my current Galaxy 4G. Since I didn't want my google account attached to the phone I stupidly reset the phone back to factory default. It told me that it wouldn't revert back to froyo so I thought I would be safe.
Is the phone now re-locked back to the Canadian telecom company it was originally bought from? Could a Korean use their SIM just like I have been doing? Since my new phone has micro-SIM I can't test this myself.
Also, if indeed it IS re-locked is it possible to unlock it without using my google account to redownload the unlocking app I used.
Thanks everyone.

I'm pretty sure once unlocked, always unlocked. There is a phone number command to type to see the status, you can google to find it, I can't remember.

From my unlocker thread:

You can now use the unlock code when you put in the non-T-Mobile sim into your phone and unlock your phone. You can check the unlock status by dialling *#7465625#. All the locks should say "OFF".

You'll need to be on a stock BML rom to be able to check since I haven't ever been able to check using an MTD rom.
Like the question the asks, I have a rooted TMO G3 running custom roms and looking at moving over to ATT and trying to see if I need to ditch the root and custom roms and go back to stock condition before sim unlocking. I have posted same question my TMO G3 forum. Any and all help is appreciated.

You shouldn't have to you. My att D850 is sim unlocked and used on TMO. I still have to use ATT roms.
All you do is shut off the phone, put in a sim from another carrier and boot up. You should then get prompted to enter the unlocked code and walla.

thanks for the reply but since I have a t-mobile G3 and been running root and custom roms since the very first days, I am a little wary about doing this for going to ATT
i am too on the quest to find a way to unlock this dang bootloader. I am curious as to if anyone has successfully swapped out their complete phone with carrier and everything to another carrier. We all know we can swap rom with TMO but couldn't we just transfer out the whole internal software with that of TMO and would it be able to be rooted like all others through ODIN? Or would it still be locked down by the .com.carrierconfig that ATT has signed to the phone? This forum is so dead it's unbearable. It seems as if all has lost hope with AT&T s8+. If anyone knows about the question above please answer. Thank you in advance
