[Q] Get unlock code for unlocked captivate, but no original nv_data.bin available - Captivate General

Hi Guys,
I got this unlocked Samsung Captivate phone from CL. Works fine. But I was wondering, since the original nv_data.bin is no longer available, is there a way to know what is the unlock code ???
The guy from whom I purchased the phone does not respond to my emails.
Since there are cases that updating to higher Versions might ask for unlock code once again, I am just being well prepared for the worst.
Thanks
luv2rip

Yeah me too
Yeah me too!

As long as you stick to the ROM that was originated from Captivate ROMs, you should be fine. Most of those get screwed up and need re-apply unlock code are from flashing those European ROMs tweaked for Captivate.
Also, I read there is now a way to extract unlock code even in Froyo 2.2. I'm pretty sure Dev section has a thread about it.

[Q] Unlock Code

I'm Just wondering If I update to 2.2 will my phone lock again or once it's unlocked it's always stay unlocked even if i do a hard reset >?
I haven't updated to 2.2 yet so don't take my word, but I've read that it re-locks and disables the easy way to find the unlock code.
But, if you write down your unlock code before updating to 2.2 and then enter it again in 2.2 you're good to go
Definitely save your unlock code somewhere so that you can re-use it if it re-locks. My phone has gone through JH7 update then Froyo update and stayed unlocked. But others do claim theirs get locked again.
Regardless, your unlock code should be the same because it is sololy based on you IMEI number.
so, is the general consensus that once you're on JH7 you can no longer get the unlock code? or did i miss the 'how to' thread for that?

JH7 is still 2.1 ROM and it is still possible to get the unlock code (a little bit more efforts than stock JF6). 2.2 ROMs are impossible to get unlock code as far as I know.
The following is pure speculation---feel free to object
It *may* be the case that, once the official Froyo update is rolled out, an unocked phone will stay unlocked. I assume that somewhere in the internal file system is a file that keeps track of the network lock status of the phone. The unofficial JI6 ROM may have been an image or backup taken from a locked phone; in this case it makes sense that the network lock will be restored upon flashing that image. But, in an official update, this may be avoided.
On the other hand, I have seen posts mentioning that not only was the phone relocked upon flashing JI6---the old unlock code itself was apparently rejected! I find this both puzzling and worrisome: I do want to upgrade to Froyo when the official update arrives, but I also need my phone to stay unlocked.
BTW, I updated to JH7 OTA and the phone stayed unlocked.

Ive got no issues with a little more effort – just not quite sure how to go about it. Would you be good enough to either fill me in or direct me to a thread where i can figure it out?
Thanks!
I have flashed my phone a few times - JH7, JI6 (2.2); and now back to stock with JH7.
My phone is locked and the original lock code dos not work.
According to a post on Cyanogen's forum - I can take the existing stuff in BML3 file:
SSNV´'šù..Jøý.—.~n.•öVÚðÜž|.hÿ6*§ÒùF....Gmñ.¾E.¸Øoß’.Öµ.†.ˆì..Á.ñ-*y!96Ý.FFFFFFFF........................00100100101#31015031017031118031041031098099999#
And replace the FFFFFFFF with my 8 digit unlock code and push this file back to the phone.
Has anyone tried this?

My phone stays unlocked even after JI6 flashing. I have no idea why others get locked again. Maybe they never unlocked properly when they were still using 2.1 ROM.

i had this problem with 2.1 rooted when i put in my non att sim card, asked me for the unlock code again, go to this to get it unlocked the msg above
i updated my firmware to 2.2 froyo rooted thanks to senior member last night and it never asked for the unlock code ever again
Save your unlock code!
Every time I've flashed a new ROM I've had to re-unlock the phone. Supposedly other people have not had to re-unlock, so it sounds like a case of YMMV.
I had my phone unlocked and working fine overseas. Got back could not wait so put froyo on. I thought the unlock would stay it did not. But i had the codes so no worry. I tried twice the codes from before but they did not take. So going to get a cheap tmob prepay sim and try that did not want to kill my other good sim. I will let you know how that works. If any one has any ideas please let me know.
Edit: got brave put it the sim from Japan again after flashing cog beta 4 and did not ask for unlock code. So i guess it works, somehow. Ill still get the tmob sim tomorrow and try. But looks good now.

[Q] Is my phone re-locked?

I posted this to the wrong board, sorry for those who have seen my question before.
I bought the SGS 4G over a year ago now, and I sucessfully rooted and unlocked the phone for use in Korea. During that time i kies'd my way up to Gingerbread which made me lose root, but it was still unlocked. I recently upgraded phones and was looking to sell my current Galaxy 4G. Since I didn't want my google account attached to the phone I stupidly reset the phone back to factory default. It told me that it wouldn't revert back to froyo so I thought I would be safe.
Is the phone now re-locked back to the Canadian telecom company it was originally bought from? Could a Korean use their SIM just like I have been doing? Since my new phone has micro-SIM I can't test this myself.
Also, if indeed it IS re-locked is it possible to unlock it without using my google account to redownload the unlocking app I used.
Thanks everyone.

I'm pretty sure once unlocked, always unlocked. There is a phone number command to type to see the status, you can google to find it, I can't remember.

You can now use the unlock code when you put in the non-T-Mobile sim into your phone and unlock your phone. You can check the unlock status by dialling *#7465625#. All the locks should say "OFF".

You'll need to be on a stock BML rom to be able to check since I haven't ever been able to check using an MTD rom.

Boot loader and other questions.

I have a Verizon droid ultra. I couldn't find it on the unlock bootloaders link posted in the beginners Guide. Is it possible to unlock the bootloader? The phone isn't a developers phone. I have one last question, if I remove the sim card can I flash T-Mobile framework and use family mobile?

The non-developer edition is not normally supposed to have its bootloader unlocked. In order to unlock it, you must get an unlock code from Motorola, and Verizon has instructed Motorola not to give out codes for non-dev devices.
However, if you act fast (because who knows how long this will actually be an option) you can buy an unlock code for $40. This basically involves sending your IMEI to someone in China who sends you back a code, which seems a little sketchy. However, the codes coming back are valid and do in fact work, so if you're willing to look the other way on how the codes may have been obtained (for all we know, that database "fell off the back of a truck" so to speak), then go for it.

Has anyone unlocked AND used a Custom ROM after?

Hi,
I need to unlock my device and my guess is I need to go back to Stock for the Tmobile Unlock App to work (does this even work in the first place?). So my question is has anyone used this successfully and also rooted/flashed another ROM after the unlock and it stayed unlocked?
If there are things I need to avoid after a successful unlock, please let me know that as well.
Thanks!
interesting
Well I know my N5 is unlocked under stock rom. After flashing a custom rom I lose the unlock. I've posted in other threads about this but there has not been a good answer other then getting an unlock code which I don't know how you would for tmo. But flashing an intl custom rom will let you get to the menu to enter the code to unlock. The question though is how and where would you get an actual numerical unlock code for a tmo device? Cellunlocker and a couple others I've contacted are not able to get an actual code to use for the tmo N5.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, my phone needs to get unlocked cause I'm moving to Japan and I rather unlock it than buy a new phone...until the Note 8 comes out.
I tried to Odin back to stock, but I get a DRK fail so I can't lol

Trying to unlock SM-J105Y from carrier

Just prior to reading this I'm letting you know I live in Australia
My Grandma bought a Samsung J1 Mini (SM-J105Y) from Coles and it's locked to Vodafone and she's with Optus, she asked me if I was able to unlock it for her and I said yes. I said yes assuming I'd be able to find what I needed to flash the kernal and ROM however it doesn't seem like there's as much support as I'd expected. Was hoping someone could help me out? If anything I might be able to find the stock firmware but not kernal. I'm not sure how locking phones to certain carrier's work anyway so I just assume I need to flash the kernal and ROM?
HI there
@FateDreadnaught don;t know if you've figured out unlocking from your carrier since you posted about it, if not here's what you need to do:
Go to the Vodafone Australia site and search for Unlock phone, all the information on what you need to do and the links on how to do it will come up there.
Unfortunately it is not free, if the phone is less than six months old, you will need to pay $50, more than six months $25.
When you use the unlock tool, answer YES when asked if you bought the phone from Vodafone, otherwise they will say to take it back where you got it from, and I guarantee you Coles won't be able to help.
oh and DO NOT TRY TO ROOT/FLASH AN UNLOCKED PHONE, IT WILL BRICK!
