[Q] Need some explanaions - HTC Inspire 4G

Hi Guys
This is a good day since I got the inspire. I have been rooting phones for more then a year. Nexus one and Captivate
All I need is to understand what am I doing.
q. What is s-off?
q. why do I need to downgrade and what is that in general?
q. what is the gold card?
q, what is the best way to root my phone.
I know that this is a really annoying noob questions but I will really appreciated some info.
Thank you guys

Q: What is s-off?
A: S-OFF is a trigger in Android that tells your phone you can mess with it. It allows you to flash ROMs and kernels and whatever else you would like. You have to have it to root.
Q: Why do I need to downgrade and what is that in general?
A: You need to downgrade to get S-OFF. Downgrading is installing another rom that let's you get S-OFF.
Q: What is the gold card?
A: A gold card lets you downgrade.
Q: What is the best way to root my phone.
A: Almost ready for a release.

Mmmmm
What is the best way again

I dont see a download link for the easy root. Can u help?

Coming soon.

Ok. What do i do right now?

Look for attn post on hacking the inspire and getting root etc.. follow those directions and you'll be fine. In the future searching can help you answer your questions as well.

moved to general as not android development

the only way to root your phone is to follow the instructions in attn1s hack kit. it comes with all the tools necessary for rooting/installing a custom rom onto your phone. there are detailed instructions, and if you need any help, visit the link in my sig.

Easy four step process.
1. Post in the right place, like general or Q & A.
2. Learn about your device, like SPL and Radio, Board etc.
3. SEARCH. It's easy to do.
4. Follow the guides or wiki guide to modding your device.
Really, just try searching. All this information has been discussed alot.

Same way you root any G1....
I'm having the same problem, and no, don't say read up or do a search, been there done that. Infact, I did root my g1 originally to try out a ROM, then unrooted it and thats when I got an update for the DMD64 build.
Anyone any luck with rooting a DMD64?
u gotta downgrade your firmware to r29 before rooting again
Go to the unlockr.com and search for how to make a goldcard for your micro SD then follow the rooting step then you should be OK
If you need any more help let me know.

As a side note: Have you tried downgrading (as you would with any other G1?)

[q] flashing to the leaked 2.2 build and rooting...

Is it still possible to root the captivate if i flash to the new build? I just got this phone and I really want to do both of these..lol. Please someone let me know. I already downloaded the guide from this site. So I just want to know if I get the new build, is it possible to follow the same root instructions that are for 2.1? Thanks in advanced.

Yes it's still possible to root, but with a different ( more complicated ) method as of now. It's not the same as rooting on 2.1. You can find couple of threads regarding rooting froyo in development section.

[Q] Inspire 4G rooting help!

Hello xda forums! The Inspire 4G is my first Android phone and already I want to root and install ROMs that fit my personal preference. The problem is I don't know what to do. I came across the thread" [DEV][GUI][RC1][GPL][3-03-2011] HTC Inspire 4G Simple Root and S-OFF" and found that it would be as easy as one click! But unfortunately, I do not know the first thing there is to rooting my phone. If someone could please list the steps I need to follow in order to root my phone using bubby323's GUI, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
mattxmrp
I would read alot of the post in the dev section, you need to make gold card before doing 1click root deal unless bubby included it in it now but read some stuff about it first so you have a better understanding of what is what.

Desire S root with stock rom - which way is better?

As the title says: Which is a better (easier) method to root my Desire S and remain on stock ROM (with sense)? Unlock via HTCDev AND (a) QuickRoot or (b) Superoneclick.
I'm:
S-ON, Hboot version: 2.00.0002
2.3.5. sense 3.0
Thank you!
i wouldn't unlock it via htcdev because i'm affraid that if i bring it to repair one day (unrooted) they could have had evidence that it was rooted once and my warranty would have been voided.
I do not have time&will to do it otherwise. Just need root to run a really needed software and I have no energy to read all of 200+ posts on how to root without this apps.
If you would be so kind and write here a step-by-step guidance for me, I would appreciate it. I was sure that if I ask this in forum, people will get angry and told me to read the forum first before asking.
To sum-up: I am looking for the simplest method to gain root and remain on stock 2.3.5. rom with htc sense.
In the same bucket. Let us know when you find out.
I am in the dark with regards to S-Off, locked boot loaders and Hboot versions. I just what to be able to have recovery so I can play with custom ROMs and go back to stock should I have problems.

The problem is that you just expect somebody to do it all for you. If that is what you want then you can pay me $150 per hour by paypal and I will do it for you as if you were a customer.
Otherwise - do what you know you need to and read the damn forum - this has been posted over and over again, with step-by-step guides, so why on earth should anybody do exactly the same thing again just because you are too lazy or too ignorant to want to do it yourself?
If the software is that "Really needed" then it is worth you putting the effort in to understand what, how and why.

well, it's your money...
Thank you. That is why I asked for your opinion on two "one-click" apps and not the process.
Wish you a nice day.

You asked for the process in your second post. Toxic-Hero answered you originally by stating that he wouldn't recommend HTC-Dev as a method of unlocking (especially true as there are other ways of doing so), and you then asked for a step-by-step guide

[Q] Dangers in Rooting with S-OFF

Hey everyone,
Please bear with me since this is my first post.
I want to overclock my HTC Sensation XE with stock ICS(4.0.3), software no 3.33.720.106 (to start with).
I realize that I need root to do this. I found tons of great guides here and what I want to know is: Is it better to get a custom ROM like Cyanogen Mod for this? Or should I just root and keep S-ON and get an overclocking app? I mean I would need to S-OFF to get non ICS (3.33.xxx.xxx) ROMS which renders the phone rather vulnerable. I'm in doubt because I read that Cyanogen is very good at security and offers a great deal of control over the phone.
This is my first root attempt so please excuse anything that I (might) have got wrong. I searched but if this is a repost, please redirect .
