Hello xda forums! The Inspire 4G is my first Android phone and already I want to root and install ROMs that fit my personal preference. The problem is I don't know what to do. I came across the thread" [DEV][GUI][RC1][GPL][3-03-2011] HTC Inspire 4G Simple Root and S-OFF" and found that it would be as easy as one click! But unfortunately, I do not know the first thing there is to rooting my phone. If someone could please list the steps I need to follow in order to root my phone using bubby323's GUI, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
mattxmrp
I would read alot of the post in the dev section, you need to make gold card before doing 1click root deal unless bubby included it in it now but read some stuff about it first so you have a better understanding of what is what.

trying to root my htc sprint hero 1.5 help
Hey man everyone started from the same spot your in. People on here are SUPER helpful, but easily get annoyed by people asking the same questions and not posting them in the right section. USE SEARCH! its your best friend, every question has been asked over 3 times. My advice, read everything on rooting (terminology, dangers, benefits, which type of root fits your needs, which ROM you want to flash) after a week or so on researching, find an RUU file in a thread. Then load that on your phone and follow the command prompt instructions carefully. Remember to use search, and rooting can brick, break, your phone. But the benefits of rooting are well worth It.

Go to the development section and look at the top posts(stickies), they have all the instructions there.

Upgrade to 2.1 first. Easier to root for me plus you're already upgraded then.

3 days ago I also had 1.5 which was rooted already. I then upgraded to the newest fw and then rerooted using the one click method that you will find here in xda forums. Worked without probs and was EXTREMELY easy.

Hey dude, I'd recommend using this link right here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
It tells how to get your phone to the stock 2.1 and then how to root that.
If you read down through the first 2 or 3 posts, all the instructions are there and it's really hard to mess them up if you follow exactly what is typed.
You don't even HAVE to upgrade to 2.1, but I'd recommend doing it first.
If you don't want to mess with the link I included above, you can just root it from 1.5 like it is now using some of the one-click methods out there on the forum. If you go to the Development section of this HTC Hero forum and look around for any threads with ROOT in the title, you should be able to find anything you need.
Also check out the Take Control link down in my signature below -- it has a lot of helpful posts and info too.
hey all,
i have been researching rooting for my EVO 4G, and have always come across the unrevoked method. But unrevoked never works for me, i can never install the hboot drivers. i was wondering if i have to have hboot drivers installed to use this method, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.phpt=838448&highlight=how+to+root, if i have to have hboot i am kind of screwed, but are there any alternative methods of rooting the EVO 4G?
Thanks in advance!!!!
EDIT: the link wont work, but the method is called "universal autoroot v2.5"
The best place to look would be in the forums specific for the evo

You will be able to find all of the answers you need there. Alot of people don't check out the other forums, they just hang around their phone's forum (myself included most of the time) Good luck, hope you find what you are looking for.
Thanks, i am new to this forum, so im not really sure where anything is, this is a huge forum

Ok first all i would like to say, i'm a new member, so don't get frustrtated if i ask questions which might sound like a pretty simple thing for experienced users, because you must remember when you first started it was difficult for you as well.
Basically i need to know if it is possible to 'root' the Desire S - Yes i am new to 'rooting' and everything, but i am getting myself familar with the terminology so hopefully will know a lot more soon. The reason i ask this is because, even on other sites, i can only find rooting guides for the original Desire but not the Desire S. I do understand this could be because this is a new phone, but would just like someone here to confirm that.
Also, if i do manage to 'root' the Desire S, would anyone recommend a ROM to put on it, and lead me to a guide which will help me in completing that task. Please note, from what i know, it would be good if it is a stable mod as i would like all features like wi-fi to still work. Thanks for your time, hope to hear from someone soon.
Kind Regards: Droidzz
seriously, even if you are new
use the search function
the half desire s forum is already full of "can i root" "how to root" "root" "rooooot?" threads ....
Before worrying about rooting you need to make sure that your device is S-OFF or S-ON. Search XDA to get instructions on how to do that.
IF you are very lucky and your device is S-OFF you'll can gain root access using either Gingerbreak or SuperOneClick root methods. (Again search XDA)
If you're like most people and stuck with a S-ON device you'll need to use an XTC Clip or wait for AlphaRev to S-OFF your device.
As the last guy said - read around on XDA. Plenty of people have asked the same questions before....
Hope that helps...
Thanks, for that buddy - Yes i have already searched the forum, and the internet, so i'm aware on how to 'root' the phone using the superoneclick method, however don't understand what's all this about the S-ON S-OFF anyone care to elaborate?

To be honest @Blezz hit the nail on the head, with search
Here's a thread I wrote a while back in which you'll find some answers.......
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076937
Hi fellow HTC Desire S users! I've been searching the net for an hour now on how to root HTC Desire S, but not a clear forum, thread or guide has caught my attention. They're all so vague, if not uncertain. Maybe I'm not searching for the right terms too... I don't know.
I need straightforward answers to these questions:
1. Is there already a tool we can use to root our device?
2. If yes, kindly give me the link or a guide or at least the names of the softwares I should use.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
To achieve root or superuser access, Gingerbreak is the app to use.
However it is only really useful for the DS if your device is s-off. Otherwise any root access is only temp (and difficult to achieve).
There is currently development of a software method to s-off DS phones.
Useful search terms on this forum might be s-on, s-off, gingerbreak, alpharevx.
Good luck

Hi Guys,
I just bought an Inspire off of Craigslist. The guys said he had updated or OTAed the phone. I wanted to know which root method or guide should I use for root, s-off, and even sim-unlock, if possible?
Here's the info on it:
Android Version: 2.3.3
HTC Sense Version: 2.1
Build Number: 2.47.502.7 CL93396 release-keys
Software Number: 2.47.502.7
What is the best, easiest method to get this bad boy rooted ? Thanks for your help!
I used the Ace Hack Kit and was rooted in under 15 minutes. Just make sure to read and follow the directions.

There's only one, and this thread was totally unnecessary the root method is on the first page

Hack Kit Thread - this is the only option available to root the GB OTA update
Make sure you read the effen manual, a few times. attn1 has made the process almost idiot proof, but if you run into issues you can hop in their IRC from the link in the OP of that thread
Folks, thanks for your responses, I appreciate your help.
I am not new to Android, been a proud owner of the DInc, EVO 4G, HD2 w/ Android on NAND, EVO 3D, and now the Inspire 4G. In all of those other communities and rooting methods, apparently builds and versions of Android mattered, and appropriate tools remedied the appropriate versions, thus I asked.
So please, there is no need to be upset. I didn't ask HOW TO Root, I asked what solution to use, cause apparently in the stickies, I saw two.
Thanks for the warm welcome, please look forward to more questions and thanks for supporting the community!

Welcome and I hope you enjoy your stay. The Inspire is a great device, I'm sure you'll love it as much as we do.
FWIW, I too get sick of the snarky, self righteous responses ppl make to a question.
Tx
