New Froyo ROM is here - HTC Aria Android Development

CAUTION?
If I understand correctly, installing this ROM will prevent you from rooting your phone.

Yes that is correct. It will install a new HBOOT loader that had closed the previous root exploit that Unrevoked used. To date they have not been able to find a exploit that will give you permanent root or the ability to flash an alternate recovery.
The best bet is to wait for someone to download the RUU, extract the ROM.zip file and create a rooted, flashable ROM.zip that ClockworkMod can install.

ROM.ZIP file
I have the rom.zip file from the RUU but I can't seem to open it. I wanted to take a look and see what all was in the update. Are the zip files in the RUU in a proprietary zip format?

They're signed by HTC which puts the signature bytes at the head of the zip file. I think 7zip will handle it. I use the unzip util in linux. It complains about the firest 256 bytes, but will unzip it. If you don't have linux, you can probably use the unzip command line util in the android shell to unzip it to your sdcard.

I was able to open the ROM.zip with 7-Zip but now I can seem to open the individual img files using WinImage. I was able to do use this on the HTC Inspire ROM without any issue.

Does anyone know if this is 2.2, 2.2.1, or maybe 2.2.2?

That's what I want to determine, too. If it is only 2.2 then it probably isn't much different than Liberated FR008. If it is the 2.2.1 source base, then it may be worth looking at.

Yes - Do Not install this update to your Aria -
If you want this version, load Liberated FR008 - it's pretty slick and offers the same functionality as the AT&T version.
If you need to restore your factory settings, you will need to find the previous update (here's a link: http://www.mediafire.com/?r49zx44u3kq8z5c). That one is now replaced by the FroYo version on the HTC web site.

2.2.2 FRG83G; Wow that is awesome! That is the most recent 2.2 code base. It was released in Jan 2011 for the Nexus One. So perhaps we have something more recent than the Gratia/FR008 build here..
The build.prop for FR008 is 2.2 FRF91

I wonder if it is possible to modify the new RUU to use the HBOOT file from the 2.1 RUU? And therefore not plug the hole?

No, RUU are signed with a HTC key. There is no way to modify the ROM.zip without resigning it with the HTC key.

Yes and place it on the root of your SD card, reboot in hboot, give it a second to load and pretty soon it will ask if you want to update...Thats it.
Just be careful, as I'm sure you have read...flashing radios can bick your device pretty fast

No. In these particular downloads , the PD98IMG.zip file is contained within the .7z archive, so you'll need to simply extract PD98IMG.zip and copy it to the root of your SD card, then reboot into bootloader. If you simply rename the .7z file it won't work.
yeah i have flashed many radios before just wasnt sure cause i could only find the radio.img n not the whole PD98IMG zip so i was scared, and flashed the bare radio in bootloader not noticing lol... Luckily didnt brick so i came here.. I found it out right after i downloaded it but thanks alot..

I think I'm updating the tablet? I'm doing it OTA when I clicked check updates on the About Tablet area?
Are you running a stock system? Rooted? Any mods, kernels, custom recovery, buttons, languages, layouts, etc?
The update checks a lot of pieces before it will update the files, and if anything is different, it will fail.

I'm running stock but I do have it rooted. Other than that, nothing else. I haven't even flashed recovery.
How did you root? Which method? Homebrew?
The stock recovery might spit out a log file that will show you what is failing the update.
It's in /cache/recovery/log or maybe last_log.
You can use adb to pull it or copy it to your sdcard with a file explorer.

I used the root toolkit v7 that can be foundon the development section. I'm thinking that if I unroot the transformer, the update could work?
Or maybe if I just downloathe firmware from the asus website, will it work better? Though I don't know how to install it.
You have a few options:
1) find the recovery log and figure out what is causing the flash to fail. Replace the deviant file using your superuser powers.
Or
2) download the 8.6.5.9 stock firmware from ASUS and flash that, then perhaps the OTA will work.
Or
3) get freaky with the command line and cook up some insecure blobs or images to flash
I think option 2 would be easiest, although I don't know if it will wipe your data. The download is a zip file, which you unzip and copy your external sdcard. I think is should be a folder named ASUS/Update/some other zip. The whole folder structure gets copied to the external sdcard so that the ASUS folder is at the root of the ext sdcard. When you insert it into the slot, your TF will recogize it and ask you if you want to flash it.
At some point ASUS will probably release the full stock rom on their website and you can flash that to update to the latest and greatest.

Owww. so 8659 is not the latest but the one on OTA? Will I lose root if flash that? and does root work on the newest update?
Yes, you will lose root and any custom recovery if you flash the stock image from the ASUS website. I think the tools in the dev section will still root as long as you have SBK v1 I.e., nvflash works on your tf. You rooted once, so it should be fine.

[recovery][clockworkmod] touch recovery 5.8.0.1 get it while its hot !!!!!!!!!

I like to start this off by saying i had nothing to do with this build the great dev team at clockworkmod did a great job at putting this together, im only the messager !!!
This a clockworkmod recovery that is by TOUCH!!
First go get flash image GUI from the market (plus its easier) or you can use whatever you like
https://market.android.com/details?...wxLDEsImNvbS5qb2V5a3JpbS5mbGFzaGltYWdlZ3VpIl0.
then download the 5.8.0.1
http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.1-supersonic.img
go to your flash image and click recovery image in the app then browse and find where ever you downloaded the 5.8.0.1 recovery and then click flash image and there you go just hit reboot to recovery and check out your new touch recovery
plus i was able to zip it to flash on hboot download link at the bottom
maybe qbking77 will do a review who knows
Plus dont forget to thank me if you like this
and to show love for clockworkmod for putting this together on their facebook
http://facebook.com/ClockworkMod
thanks to joeykrim for the flash image gui app
Is there a reason i should install "Flash IMG GUI" before flashing this?Or can i just manually do it through Hboot?
I noticed its an IMG,so it can be put into a flashable zip.
This must not have been released for "Rom Manager" yet?

you do it either way you want but flash image was the easiest for me plus i dont know of other ways to flash a image file since i have always used flash image gui but you can try at your own risk!
For those of us that are broke, lol. Most of us knew this, but just in case.
If you only have the .img file, you can make your own update.zip file. For example, if you have a recovery image file, it needs to be named recovery.img. Then, put it in a ZIP file without compression. Name the file PC36IMG.ZIP, and you're all set.
Thanks for the heads up Myerk2008.

[Q] Can someone please offer me some advice. CWM isn't working

Hi all,
I know that there are a lot of guides on xda and I've been reading them, searching and googling like crazy to try to find the answer.
Yes I'm a noob and I'm still trying to Root my phone.
I have managed to S-OFF with revolutionary.
I want to flash ARHD 4.1.13 (android 2.3.5 & htc sense3.5) onto my HTC Sensation Z710e.
I've been reading this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
And I'm at the stage where I'm trying to install recovery v5.0.0.8 CWM onto my phone for recovery.
I have downloaded recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid.img from the threads here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277975
I've heard that the file should be named 'PG58IMG.zip'
I've named the file recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-pyramid.img as 'PG58IMG.zip', then I've started up HBOOT but I keep getting messages stating cannot find PG58IMG. Then I just get the standard HBOOT screen of Fastboot, Reboot, Recovery etc... No messages about 'Updating' etc which you'd expect from CWM.
How can I move forward from here?
Thank you,
T-L-H

Sounds like you dl it,but it needs to be on the root of your sdcard. Move it to the root, then check md5sum,load up and it should recognize it.

You can't just rename the recovery file PG58IMG.zip - it doesn't work like that
If you have the *.img file you have to flash it via fastboot. That or find someone that's packaged the recovery into a PG58IMG.zip file
I've managed to flash the ROM onto my phone ^^
I've used ARHD 4.1.13 (android 2.3.5 & htc sense3.5)
Just to double check, that doesn't have Beats (thats fine I don't have any Beats headphones anyway).
Will it change the CPU to 1.5Ghz? In hardware settings for the phone it still shows 1.2Ghz.
Think that one doesn't but not sure...why not go for HD 6.x?

It was my first time Rooting and flashing ROMs onto phones, the whole firmware thing confused me until I'd thought about it...
I know that what I've got on now is stable.
I'll fiddle with it in a week or so.
you should rename it to "recovery.img", and put it into the old PG58IMG.zip (cwm 5.0.0.8) and overwrite the old recovery.img.
then put the new PG58IMG.zip in your sdcard root folder and get into hboot then update it.
