i9000 2.3 update - Captivate General

Just saw on samfirmware twitter that the galaxy s i9000 is supposed to be getting an official samsung update to 2.3, hope one or some of the devs can jump on this and hook up the cappy owners with a working rom.

Only good thing about 2.3 is google made ext4 a requirement. Rfs can no longer be used.

i think you missed his point.
they handle the update direct for their european devices without the carrier having to test, approve, add bloat, etc. so they generally meet their deadlines.
The i9000 has had froyo for quite a while now.

Forget it. We no longer need it. Samsung has released source code for the two out of the three captivate models. The Rogers and armani froyo sources are released and we already have some great ROMS based on them. So I say to hell with waiting and THANKS XDA DEVS!

I was just thinking this, but secretly still being bitter about AT&T not releasing froyo. What if the same thing happens with Gingerbread? (the other 2 get it first, we end up limping behind) :/
Although if not for the XDA devs, I'd probably still be watching my phone say "media scanner running" for what seems like days.....

Andromeda for one, based on Armani and Cognition is based on the rogers release.
The Rogers source just dropped very recently so I imagine future cog releases will be even better.

Sorry, but Armani is not the same device as SGH-i897. If you flash through Odin the tar posted on samfirmware, it won't detect your sdcard and you'll have a mapping button problem, and screen orientation issue (Just like i9000 ROMs)
There're only two models sharing almost the same specs:
- SGH-i896 (Rogers Captivate)
- GT-i9088 (From China Unicom)

Just like some of us add more hp to our rides via flashing the pcm with certain calibrations, adding nitrous, or supercharger, diff camshaft, better valve springs etc. I myself like doing stuff like that. Wow you guys are thinking too hard.
The Samsung Galaxy S, the ORIGINAL one, the i9000, has its firmware straight from Samsung. No bloat whatsoever. That is what the guy above was referring to, and that is what this firmware is for. Its SAMSUNG's version of GB, with a few added samsung apps.

News for mesmerize users!!! TW GingerBread Leak!!!

Just note to all mesmerize users...the TW Gingerbread leak found here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131213
works on our phones...i am running it on 2 mesmerizes!!! I have an edited build.prop fro our phones, and a ROM made by navenedrob!!!
everything works on this but mms for us, as far as i know, but remember, Its a LEAK, so not everything is stable yet. I am using it as an everyday ROM right now with no issues but mms and on mine the contacts seem really laggy but ohhh well...its GINGERBREAD!!!!! after everything stables out a little, then ill start getting it themed... themes on Gingerbread are different and they take a lil longer to port over so please be patient with the themes
this leak is called EC09 and its 2.3.3 Gingerbread leak...Happy flashing and be responsible cause no one else is taking the blame for what you do to your phone!!!
all credit for this goes to all involved and i take no credit for anything but the build.prop i edited to get off the verizon market...the build.prop will be posted in the dev section for people to use after flashing navenedrob's ROM!!!
please read everything in the posts about the bugs in this ROM and make sure you follow the instructions exactly
navenedrob's ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131845

Might want to check this out...One of the guys with the Facebook group "Samsung Mesmerize" has put together a package for this TW Gingerbread leak that has everything working. The stock MMS is working but the display is squished a little but you can use a 3rd party app and it works great. I've been running this and everything has been fast, smooth & stable so far. My best quad score was 1297 without voodoo and it seems to get faster and smoother as the rom settles in. The group has the download and install instructions listed in their Doc's section on the FB page. Here is a link to their group https://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_161093337264103&ap=1

Well if he does, and it works, then i'll start a ROM based from it.
I dont know much *(or anything) about programming and so on. but this entire fragmentation way of doing things, where each company needs to have their own team and we all need to wait for the release of google's latest, is just plain annoying.
At the mercy of a company that already sold you their device? that's not smart. Google should hold all SC (or drivers, or whatever U call these) and release them to all public and all phones at the same time.
But what am I BSing about?!
THANKS
Well I have managed to port 4.0.3 to my g2x but still can't get sound and cam right like the other builds. But some things ive found improvements on. Since my g2x is just a play toy for me I don't care about camera but without sound its useless. Im still messing with it but put it to the back burner for now because I'm highly frustrated with it.

Cyanogen stated that they got sound to work, they just can't get the cam to work.

MT4G finally gets some good news

http://www.androidcentral.com/htc-says-first-ice-cream-sandwich-updates-coming-march-adds-more-phones-list
According to HTC, the Desire HD is confirmed to get an official ICS OTA! As we all know, the DHD and MT4G have nearly identical hardware and ROMs are very easy to port between the two. The stock DHD ICS ROM would make a perfect (read: fully functional) base for the MT4G. Assuming we still have decent devs in a few months, we should have a very nice ICS ROM.

As far as specs, yes. Historically speaking, DHD ROMs do still have to be ported to an extent. However, I would expect a fully working camera will be extremely easy with a DHD dump as a base.

I saw that, but isn't that complete crap? Just seems highly unlikely to me. My bet is HTC doesn't consider it worth it, because the myTouch series of phones has that ugly TMO-customized version of Sense. So they'd put a lot of work in customizing that UI to work on ICS for only two phones, one of which is nearing a year and a half old. I just don't see it happening.

If it is true, that's another kick in the ass to people who thought we would never get it. I hope we get an official version
If I helped, give thanks, if you please.
