will the desire hd otterbox defender work on the inspire?
Sent from my Inspire 4g using XDA App
Well...
Well I emailed the otterbox site and they replied saying the the defender case would not fit the Inspire, but that they are making one for it.
I've also seen a forum post or two that say it does fit though...
So I guess its really your call. If I were you I don't think it'd hurt to wait little while, just to be safe.
Only Commuter series so far
I had wondered the same thing but from what I found on the Otterbox site was that they only offer a Commuter series case for the Inspire so far. I hope that helps a little.
I read on otterbox's facebook (I think) that the desire HD defender case partially covers a microphone on the back of the inspire. People say it fits, but I haven't read any other comments about it covering the microphone. I also wonder how much (if any) the screen protector of the DHD defender affects the sensitivity of the touchscreen.
It doesn't affect the screen at all! I love this case! I even have a screen protector underneath it and cant tell anything is there. I have the Desire HD btw
I just ordered the HTC Desire HD Defender for my Inspire. I have always ran the defender series cases. I love them.....Hopefully the Desire HD kit fits as well as people say.
What are the "functionality" issues they are saying is different between the two cases.
I know there is a small size difference but the Q&A threads list the functionality differences as being the reason it wont work.
Any ideas?
I have not noticed any function issues with the Desire HD case.

I'm running the defender as well and I've heard stories about how running a protector under the defender's screen shield hinders the functionality and also causes the water mark effect, how common is this? There are times that I just don't need the amount of protection the Defender offers so I want to be able to switch cases at will without leaving the screen exposed. I have a couple of screen protectors from Clear Coat which are thinner than some of the other protectors and I'm hoping that it won't cause any problems. What screen protector are you using, and is it one of the more thicker ones or thinner ones?
thanks
I got mine in today, looks great !
I was especially pleased to see it doesn't have the cutouts on the display cover like some I've seen. It's a solid piece.

nice pictures .. does it have a built in screen protector?
with the otterbox screens you either have to use an anti-glare protector under it .. or some baby powder to keep it from getting the water bubble affect...
how well does the rubber peice stay on the casing? is it better then on the iphone 4?

i have the defender and it does have a built-in screen protector. rubber piece stays on quite well, but i don't have an iphone to compare it to.

Yes, it has the built in protector. I don't have any water bubble affect (yet ?)
Rubber piece slides into a groove all the way around the perimeter of the front so I don't expect it to come off unless I want it to. It hasn't yet.
Okay thanks good to know fixing to order mine

Got my Desire HD case in today, and installed. I dont see why they say it has functionality issues. It fits perfectly.
How is the fit of the hard plastic? I just ordered the desire hd version for my inspire. I didn't want the hard plastic to be too tight though. Like I had to force it to snap shut. Does it seem to fit properly?

I have read a on otterbox's facebook a few times where they talk about the desire HD defender covering up a microphone or headphone jack or something on the inspire. Can anyone confirm that absolutely no holes (speakers, tiny mic holes, headphone jack, flash, etc.) anywhere on the inspire are in anyway covered by the defender case?

I just ordered mine. If there is anything to modify, I'm sure it can be easily done with a dremel.

Nothing covered up on mine. I checked both mic holes, flash, camera, everything.
All good.
Just got my Otterbox
Like others I ordered the Desire HD case and picked it up for 29 bucks off of Amazon. (make sure it is the HD case and not the standard desire)
The case fits perfect and WOW what a case. My phone should now be safe from anything that I can dish out.
There are no holes or ports blocked in any way by this case. All the buttons work as well as the touch screen being just as responsive. The screen cover also does not show fingerprints so that is a nice surprise.
I also have no watermark effects from the screen protector as this was reportedly fixed by Otterbox with the newest screen cover material.
This makes the phone much more bulky, but It feels much better to me that way and now no fear of dropping it.
A++++ all the way on this one!
I think the issue is with the holster on the case. It covers the headset jack.

I bought a gel skin and a screen protector at T-mobile in the mall today. Already took them both off because they made the phone look and feel like **** in my hand. Honestly, it felt like the same dimensions as an iPhone. Yuck.
I know I'm gonna drop it eventually, but it looks even ****tier in the case than it would with scratches, so **** it. This is such a sexy phone I just want to look at it all the time.
What's everyone else doing?
I have the red one... dude I couldn't stand to hold my phone for even 5 minutes without a case lol maybe I'm going through my babying phase but if I gotta be with this for next 2 years then I gotta keep it lookin new at all times. It's just too slick to me without a case imo

Do you have a pic of the case you got? I have the black and clear case with the kickstand. Only 20bucks on ebay so it was a good deal compared to the t-mobile site. I'm desperately waiting for a desk dock to come out.... badly!!! Lol

I can't stand a case either...I also can't stand the screen protector that they cut for the mt4g, cuz it is reduced glare and it seems you take away from the beautiful display. I use a leather holster that works well cuz usually when I drop my phone its usually cuz if falls out of my pocket....only draw back is its leaving black residue on my red finished part...
P.S. Love this phone

I didn't use protection and now I got a bunch of little mt3g's running around....
still nekkid. I'm just using the G1 sleeve. It fits the MT4G perfectly.
Bare back all the way, I would rather pay for an Insurance replacement If I dropped or scratched the display. But I will not cover its natural beauty with plastic or rubber.
Coming from a Vibrant I realize that my only downgrade is the display, Everything else is an upgrade, So why would I further reduce this display with plastic or rubber. I keep one pocket empty at all times, the only thing I use this pocket for is my MT4G.
Ordered carbon fiber phantom skinz for mine, it lives in the plastic holster from tmo. Will post some shots when it arrives and gets cozy with my mt4g
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
no case......tried a couple from tmo but didnt like them. the clear shell w/ kickstand was the best of the bunch but i still like the phone better totally bare
Nothing all the way around. That said, I'd like to try a clear "protector" for the battery plate so as to make it a little grippier. I had one for my iphone 3g, which helped immensely. Anyone know of one that might fit the battery plate?

+1 on the desk dock. No pic handy, but it's just the basic black gel skin they sell at the T-mobile stores.

Agreed! The screen protector they gave me sucks. For iphones they have screen protectors that cover the entire front of the device, right? That's more what I had in mind.
Something similar for the rear isn't a bad idea.
I use the T-Mobile gel case and a Realook screen protector. Although I rarely ever drop my phones, the gel case gives me peace of mind. Unfortunately, it does take away from the phone's aesthetic values.

Yeah, peace of mind is why I bought it. It also feels clunky and bulky in the hand with the case on. Yuck.
The only protection I would consider for my phone is maybe a thin screen protector, or maybe a Golden Shellback coating to make it waterproof.
no case because it makes the phone too bulky. i do use a realook screen protector though, cant even tell its on there.
I've got the white hardshell with the thin rubber sleeve case on mine. It came with a screen protector that I've managed to scratch the heck out of somehow. It's a nice case and doesn't add much bulk to the phone. Generally I like to use the phone without a case but from past experience with rubber coating on plastic (Blackberry Bold) rubbing off, I opted for a case.

lol, I just said last night that it's like working out to get a great body and then wearing baggy clothes.
Built neoprene case
I just got one of the Built neoprene sleeves. I really dislike the always-on cases for phones, but this is perfect. I put a review up on the amazon page, but can't link to it since I haven't posted enough.
So I've been using PDAs with touchscreens for quite some time (see my illustrious HTC device history in my sig!) and have never really found a screen protector I am happy with. I think I've tried most (ZAGG, Brando, MFOP etc etc)
I really need to replace my current Martin Fields protector because it's been annihilated.
So far on my DHD I have tried:
HTC's own - very soft plastic that scratched easily. Looked ugly after no time. I liked the price, fit and ease of installation though.
ZAGG Invisibleshield - I managed to put it on upside-down which didn't help. I love how hard-wearing it is (self-healing etc) but I hate the orange peel effect and the "sticky" feeling
Martin Fields - Didn't fit from the start - looked great to begin with but again, scratches so easily and looks awful now.
So I want to try something else (if there is anything!)
I really like how hard-wearing the ZAGG is, so if there is nothing else I'll go back to ZAGG - but I'd like to see if there's anything similar (but better) out there.
I don't really like those invisible shield, after sometime the edges will start to peel off and looks ugly (have those type of protector on my old HP Ipaq).
I would recommend 3M Vikuiti screen protector! Sublime quality (comes with a price though), try to google for protectionfilms24. They carry the product
Not heard of that one - will give it a look.
Which one is the best?
There are 3 choices:
ADQC27
DQC160
CV8
I have ordered a BodyGuardz to try out - supposedly has all the benefits of the invisibleshield whilst not having the downsides (orange peel, tackiness etc).
Why would you need a screen protector for the DHD? It has a Gorilla Glass screen!
I can't even imagine what will you have to do to scratch it!
The DHD doesn't have Gorilla Glass
Let us know about how the Bodyguardz protector works out for you, I dodn't know there was material out there as strong as Invisible Shield, but mirror-like.
The DHD is very exposed to stratches, the massive screen isn't helping...
Anyway what are you doing with your phone? Do you carry it around with knives or something
I still have a untouched original protector (I do have a slight scratch under it )
I went for the Steinheil anti fingerprint screen protector, costs about $16,- on ebay. Unfortunately they (you get 2) have not yet arrived.

I'm happy with Realook. Finger slides smoothly, great fit, no bubbles. Can hardly tell it's there. Only slight rainbow effect if viewing at extreme angles.

Part of my job is fitting these bloody things, trust me when i say that if it's peeling away at the edges, you did not put it on properly.
I nail these things every time, however the only phones that they look and feel good on is an iphone 4, oh and the ipad and galaxy tab. The DHD looks **** with it.
@ the thread starter, my advice would be to go for a phone protector (case) and a nice smooth screen protector, any generic s.p will work just fine, even the one's that come with cases (IF you can put them on right)
My fav screen protectors are the ones made by griffin, not sure if they do one for the DHD tho, shame really as they feel really nice and are a dream to put on.
Reelook is the only one I will use. FYI, gorilla glass can scratch.

Here in Japan I've been using the one from SoftBank. (The same carrier that sells the Desire HD).
I was shocked by the price because it was about 20 dollars (equivalent) and the only one available for the DHD when it came out.
However, it is still going strong and it still looks brand new. So I will definitely be buying another in the future when necessary.
My girlfriend sometimes mentions how good my screen is. I keep the phone in this old electronic dictionary case (bottom left) which has been stitched to nearly half the size so the phone fits in tightly and the screen is wiped when pushed in or pulled out. A student made me the blue one (at the top) so I decided to utilize the old one.
So I definitely recommend the SoftBank screen protector plus a soft and strong phone case.

Brando ultra Clear and anti-Glare screen protectors
i have brando ultra clear protector and the anti-glare one too for quite a few months now, sharing my experience with both :
Brando ultra clear:
Pros:crystal clear display , fitting cut , easy to install and remove , washable , very thin and offers good screen protection.
Cons: greasy and leaves finger smudges (u have to wipe it often), sticky sometimes (specially in a relatively humid environments, impossible to swype easily if yr fingers r a bit warm or humid)
Brando anti-glare:
Pros: very smooth ,very slick, doesn't attract dust at all,sliding/swyping is an awesome experience with this type, fitting cut , easy to install and remove , washable , very thin and offers good screen protection.
Cons: distorts the screen colors (grainy matt look) , reading and browsing experience is highly affected by that grainy effect (specially noticed with white backgrounds).
would be awesome if everyone can make a pros/cons for everyscreen protector they try, just to clear the confusion
P.S , im looking for a tip from experienced users of a screen protector in between those 2 i reviewed , i really like the slickness of the antiglare but the grainy effect is a very bad point.
hope this helps.
cheers.

Anyone recommend a nice durable case that offer the most overall protection, with preferably not making it bulky? And what's a nice screen protector? I'm not really rough on my phones, but stuff happens. I just want to be protected.
I came across HTCDepot.com, is that generally a nice, legit site? I came across another one like HTCSensation4gaccessories.com or something, and it doesn't seem too legit.
Thanks

This things is probably one of the best cases I've ever had as far as my uses go. It's a great fit, extremely durable, and doesn't add a lot of bulk.
My only complaint is that the cutout for the USB port is a little tight, so a lot of third party USB cables will push the case around when you plug them in. The HTC one is fine because the housing on it is nice and compact, but the bigger/more squared off housing on a lot of other cables just doesn't fit as well.
I use Ghost Armor for the screen, mainly because there's a kiosk at the mall near work, and they'll install it for me so I don't get air bubbles, etc.

This one is a lot more rigid than the one T-Mo had from what I can tell.
It has almost no flex around the edges once it's in place. The T-Mo one seemed kind of "floppy" to me.

No, it's not typical silicon case. It's much harder material and does not attract any dirt or dust. This is far more like TPU, but all the TPU cases I've seen for this phone were glossy, this has a matte finish.

I would suggest this pouch:

Really minimalistic look and feel.
Or get a :

Or if you want to shell out some money:

Do not buy the OtterBox, always loved her, but the sensation was very bad. Case mate beautiful
I hate to be one of "those" people but theres already at least 2 very helpful CASE threads, lots of info and lots of pics so go to search and check them out.
i think that case-mate have many cases that are beautiful and enough proofing for Sensation.
There are mesh cases on ebay for about 2$.
I'm not sure how they will handle a fall, but they will protect the back cover from scratches.

I don't think it will protect your phone from a fall to the floor, but it will definitely protect it from scratches on the back cover AND on the screen! It has about 0.5-1mm "rail" on the screen side so when the phone is up side down, the screen does not touch the surface. It is possible to remove the back cover without taking off the case. I think the holes will help the phone to cool off.
I will try to post some pictures later if any one is interested.
If you don't mind waiting about 10 days, best bargain I've found IF you want a very thin and minimalistic case WITH Screen protector, here you go:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TPU-Silicon...875643?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1c20d468bb
I ordered about a dozen for myself and coworkers. I got them at 1.99 shipped each, but they went up just a bit. For that price, get a few different colors.
Nice, tight fit and all holes are unobstructed and well cut out.
Never buying a hardcase again!
Never buying a hardcase again!
Sure the mesh ones look awesome but that's it, I bought 1 from ebay and it broke around the volume buttons within days of receiving.
Got a replacement from the seller and same thing!
Ended up getting a full refund.
Bought a $30 solid hard case from my local Optus Store (I'm an Aussie), was great for a few weeks then it too broke, they offered me a replacement but I opted for the full refund.
Totally disillusioned with hard cases!
Now I am about to test one of the TPU Clear Silicon Cases, fingers crossed it does the trick and doesn't some how melt and fuse itself to my Sensation XE.
Ballistic
I bought this case from amazon and the pics online look weird but in person its a nice looking case and solid feel and weight to it. http://www.amazon.com/Ballistic-SA0...sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330012302&sr=8-1-spell
There is a grey one and black. I got the black one . The company also has a website goballistic.com
I bought one of these, we'll see how it is

The case came in yesterday, it's mediocre.
The case is securely in place but not very secure, it's fairly easy to take the phone out of it. It is thin so that means that it doesn't cover the front of the phone at all.
Also the camouflage paint doesn't go to the edges
I would be careful; in my experience cases will compound wifi problems with this phone (as in block the antenna). With my two cases I can never achieve a full 3 bar Wi-Fi signal.

Ive been using this one for a couple weeks and havent experienced any noticeable signal loss and it looks great. Not bad for £2.99
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270834128025?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
But if you want something cooler, I just ordered one of these game boy cases

seidio cases are great. 2 piece case, one with rubber gel case and a attachable back stand.

I have something like that but sold it. It's a great case for the cash, but you can see even in the pic on ebay that the top button is not aligned properly. Other than that those cases are my 3rd fav case.

Looks decent but looks like a lint magnet. But if you are ok with it, then that's what matters right?

That's my travel case. Great case. But my fav at the moment is the clear aprolink hybrid case. It's pretty much plastic with tpu trim for grip. The only drawback is that the rubber easily scratches, but I can't see it.

Hey all, I saw that these became available recently. I was thinking about getting one for when I do rougher activites but was concerned about taking away from the slimness of the phone. I already have the OEM HTC matte black slim case. Anyone get this yet or have any feedback on it's build quality, size, weight and fit/finish?
Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

I am interested as well. I figure the slimness of this phone will help making any decent case that much more appealing. My friend has a case on his S2 and that thing is a BEAST.
im in the same boat. Since the phone is so small, i figured that the otterbox couldn't add that much heft to it. Now i'm anxiously waiting!!
HD2: 4.76" x 2.64" x 0.43"
One S: 5.15" x 2.56" x 0.31"
As you can see, the HD2 was pretty slim for a 4.3" phone, and the defender turns it into a 5.1" x 2.93" x 0.8" beast. It does however protect in every way possible, with lenses over the camera and flash, some sort of rubber membrane over the speakerphone, a rubber flap over the ports, a built in hard screen protector, and soft rubber stretched over strong plastic everywhere else. It comes with a belt holster that rotates and allows the phone to be securely snapped in face first, back first, or rotated 180* and functions as a dual angle kickstand in portrait or landscape. The whole thing is surprisingly light given its strength, but it had one big drawback that otterbox has hopefully resolved by now: it was far too easy to get contaminants underneath the screen protector, and once there it was very difficult to keep clean, clear, and smudge free.
Given the cost difference and my preference to go without a screen protector I'm saving for the case mate tough case, and for day to day use I'm happy with my diztronic.
For the Commuter case the dimensions on Otters site are 5.4 in x 2.81 in x 0.56 in
For the Defender Case the dimensions on Otters site are 5.48 in x 2.89 in x 0.67 in
The Dimensions for the One S: 5.15" x 2.55" x 0.31"
Both cases add size but IMO they won't make this phone a brick.
I don't have either of the otterbox cases for this phone, I do have the Ballistic though. The ballistic is most similar to the Otterbox Defender series. In my opinion the case does not not a significant amount of bulk to the phone and it still fits very comfortably in my pocket as well a stand I have on my desk. I can provide pictures of it if your are curious.

Please post pics of it when it arrives, I'm concerned that it has the built in screen protector cover that is normally on the defender not the commuter series.

still waiting on the defender. i really want the belt holster. But cant wait to see pics of the commuter case as well
just ordered my commuter series case, had one for my evo before i switched to an HD2. I think a little bit of extra security is worth it over cosmetic appeal of slimness. Just my thoughts
Just got my commuter case this morning ill try to post some pics later tonight. This is my first otterbox case and as far as looks I really don't like how it looks, but I gues it gets the job done. The case doesn't really add to much bulk, it just as wide as my d30 case and you don't really lose to much thinness.

Commuter is good comes with a screen protecter and the inside is made of rubber and the out of some weird rough plastic, overall the case is good for any kind of drops, thickness wise its as big as an n1 with no case

Quick question, is the case 1 piece or 2 pieces that snap together to fit the phone? I can't tell and wasn't sure after looking at the website.
rubber for the cover, hard plastic for the frame, 2piece and a screen protector but fugg that it leaves a dirty imprint after u take it off
Loving my commuter case ...dropped my phone from 3 ft not a scratch anywhere on the case feels good

Has anyone picked up the Defender? I'm fairly certain that the One S is going to be my next phone but I work construction currently and that can be pretty hard on phones (Actually, my Milestone/Droid held up very well...Desire Z not so much). The two threads in the main forum about the screen breaking easily are worrying me a bit and an Otterbox is going to be a necessity here.
Is the Defender THAT much bigger than the Commuter? And apart from the clip, is it really that much more durable? I've checked the site and read what's there, but looking for real world experience from users (of both the One S and previous phones here).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
