I don't mean to start a riot here but does anyone know how to (or has the links to) put a Fascinate ROM on a Mesmerize device?
I know there are huge risks by trying this & if done incorrectly can lead to a headache. I'm a risk taker & want to have something new to play with & try. I googled around but all I can find is people referring to doing it but not what they did.
Also if you know how & don't want to post it publicly to avoid creating more trouble-makers a PM would be great too.
Thanks in advance for anyone that takes the chance of helping me.
I can help pm me I have everything you need to do this I have done this many times

How about the reverse? I've mesmerized my fascinate but have texting issues and only 1x data. I see it switch to 3g but never world when its in that mode. I gave uscc service. I can make and receive calls and receive texts. I've imported an apn.xml from my girls mesmerize that I flashed the froyo leak to. I've also used qpst to set my user and pass for data mimicking her during except using my number where applicable.Tia
Just flash modem only back to vzw
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Actually am using vzw modem, newest one from fascinate forum. The uscc modem doesnt work at all. Any recommendations?
Thats strange vzw and uscc modems both work on my mez 3g and all
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Ok so I just started flashing vzw modems to see if I could make any progress and managed to get my txting issue resolved with DI01 modem. Still just 1x inet, no 3g.
Mesmerbelly, I'm working with a fascinate here not a mesmerize, but noticed you said uve flashed both provider modems to your mez. Can you think of any reason y it wouldnt be a 2way process. I appreciate all your help.
I am not sure but I'd say it works on the mesmerize because uscc roams from them anyway. I doubt that vzw uses uscc's stuff. Not educated just guessing lol. Also uscc has always used different text stuff. Same way back on tp2 for me

PRL
You I've done the prl update. Had to use QPST to originally flash an older uscc prl just to get it on the uscc network. I then did a prl update to get the newest one. I'm stumped, still happy though cause I got a new phone for free and the only thing that doesnt work is 3g access. This whole procedure has allowed me to alter my uscc account to have a mesmerize, so in a few weeks i can do an insurance claim and get a real one and just sell this fascinate.
Lol thats funny but they will ask you to ship the old one back unless you say you lost it then they will put the imei number on a lost list and no one can use it so you cant sell it
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I was just going to say I lost it, then wait a while then "find" it and call and have it removed from the lost and stolen list. Since I was the original owner it shouldnt be a problem.
That may work not sure when out comes off the lost list of the insurance will want you to send it in tho good luck

Yes, we know.
If you are comfortable fooling with hardware that's awesome. The problem is 99% of the people who visit these forums are not. If you want to talk about stuff like this join us in IRC. You many be a great help. But don't encourage thousands of users to to go off willy nilly and flash verizon software to their USCC devices. It is not proper and can damage your phone. You're very lucky that it hasn't for you.
I wasn't trying to twist any arms into doing this I'm not the first person to do this I'm not trying to twist any arms jusy saying its possible and I would help I don't recommend any other phones software just the i500 stuff

Fascinate to Mesmerize
My question is if I have a Verizon Fascinate(which I do) can it be made to work on USCC and whats involved in that. I have one laying around and flashed the USCC froyo leak to it and it booted and everything was good except the main part, the phone (modem). It always stayed in airplane mode. I flashed back to a Verizon firmware and all was well with the phone again. I know USCC would have to add the MEID number to their database, but not sure about the rest.
I've done this. Just don't overwrite the modem or you are ****ed...
Interesting
Could you provide a little more info? Im guessing u mean the verizon modem? Did you have to flash a USCC PRL to it after the USCC software flash? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
EDIT: Ok, reflashed leaked froyo, flashed verizon modem.bin and now I have a verizon fascinate with uscc software and verizon modem that is still talking to the verizon network. I just need to figure how to flash a uscc prl to it and get it off of verizons towers. Then of course the MEID of the phone needs to be added to the uscc database to allow for it to work on the network. Sounds good to me.
To be honest I don't think it has to be added to the database. I know people who have hooked up Alltell phones, and verizon phones to USCC.
Also all I think you need to do is flash the USCC modem, along with the software, call a CSR and tell them you want to add a "Mesmerize" to the account give ESN, and it should work. There was a topic in Epic 4G to use it on Boostmobile, so if theyre isnt a modem, maybe you can edit the verizon one with all the correct info?
Ok, well I'm getting a new HTC Thunderbolt today (Android) and am selling my old HTC DROID Incredible to a friend who's coincidentally just dropped his old Eris into a pool! Anyway, my question is this: I've rooted my D.Inc. and have Cyanogenmod 7.2 on it. Would I/he need to unroot and go back to the stock ROM to use the phone on his own contract? Thanks, let me know.
I don't believe so.
But where did you get CM7.2? There isn't even a 7.1 yet lol.
Sent from my Droid Incredible running CM7.
Thank you.
And you're right. I was messing the decimals up. I meant 7.0.2.1. It's on ROM Manager. lol, sorry for the confusion.
So I'll likely need to un-root?
I don't think you'll need to unroot, although I'm not 100% sure. I hope someone else can chime in with a more certain answer.
And its alright lol I was just like "wait a minute, beta? " lol
Sent from my Droid Incredible running CM7.
Yeah, I'm getting the same semi-certain answers that it'll be fine from the guys on the cyanogenmod forum. I think I'll just take the leap of faith...I don't see why it would be a problem.
I know at one point there was a place on the VZW website to change your phone and you just manually typed in the ESN of the new phone and voila new phone activated.
But, I never did try that w/a rooted phone

You don't happen to have a link for that, do you? I think my wife is gonna switch to my OG Droid, now that I have the T-Bolt, but I don't want to have to go back to stock from CM7 to take it back to the VZW store.
You should be able to call in to verizon and change it as well.
Long as you don't have an actual rep look at the phone, shouldn't be an issue.
Just dial *228 from it choose option 1 .. no laws against root just voids warranty and if you use wireless tether you breach terms

No you do not need to unroot. Just be careful if you bring it in to Verizon while rooted. I did, but I had my buddy switch my old phone to another family member and activate the new one so I really didn't care.

This is correct, when I got my TB I gave my wife my rooted OG Droid running CM7 and it activated for her just fine. I've also showed off my OG Droid to the reps at my VZW store all the time. Most of them were rocking rooted phones anyway, they just don't like it when you bring it in and try to lie about it being rooted when something goes wrong.
There's a link when he logs in to verizonwireless.com to activate new device. Just type in the ESN and choose a plan. I sold my fascinate running one of adrynalyne's roms and activated fit or my buddy from my thunderbolt that way. No problems at all.
Yeah, it seems to be that everyone agrees it'll work. I've committed to do it. When it's done and if it works I'll post it here for possible info purposes.
I activate them all the time. In most cases you can just dial *228 option 3 and follow the prompts to activate any Verizon phone anywhere. I work for a Verizon retailer.

I agree with most everyone but using the website never seems to work. And if the Verizon framework has been removed, good luck getting them to update it.
My suggestion would be to download a normalish Rom/stock and switch it over with him. It's got to be the fastest way. Good luck!

There will be no issues activating the phone, you do not have to unroot. Verizon cannot stop you from rooting, you just technically lose your warranty!

lies, their contract says that they can end your contract for using tampered with phones.
So no they can't stop you, but they can end your contract and force you to pay the cancellation fee, refuse to activate the phone, etc if you walk in and happen to talk to the wrong person.
doesn't mean they will, but they can.

Ok... The amount of problems I have experienced going from SC Rom, SimpleClean or whatever it was, to Heinz57 is extremely ridiculous... I'm going to skip all that I've done and go straight to the problem. Heinz 57 requires me to have EC10 kernel and radio or whatever. Well being on SC I had EC01. The only thing I found was to go to stock to get EC10 kernel and radio. Well, the very first time I flashed a rom, I was a noob, and forgot to freaking backup my stock rom, so I lost my stock Cellular South rom. In trying to get CWM and all this crap fixed and working, I eventually got Heinz57 installed, but I didn't have Cell Data, you know, like the internet. I could make calls, text, blahblah, but no 3G or anything like that. Then it hit me, this happened when I installed some stock rom that was for U.S. Cellular or some bull, but when I read it, it was for my phone, which is Mesmerize, and it was EC10, and one of the posts in there said it would take everything, even the radio. Well apparently something went wrong, so I'm thinking, why not get the stock rom for US Cellular for 2.1 and then use Kies to upgrade to 2.2, well apparently that's all it did was upgrade it. Because my phone was still US Cellular. Basically I either need the stock rom for Cellular South (2.1 or 2.2). I GUESS? Will that fix my radio? Is there just a radio I can flash with Odin? I've tried some EC10 radio I found in the Facinate forum (For some reason everything in the Mesmerize forum points to the Facinate forum, whatever. Lol), but it didn't do anything. Maybe EC10 just won't work on my phone? Do I go back to EC01 then just say whatever and try installing Heinz on that? I don't know I'm so lost haha. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT: Sorry, the radio I flashed was EC01, not EC10.
This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1029436
EDIT2: So with @davidbruington informing me that I have a Showcase, I tried installing the EB11 files and Radio. No change. Same thing.
CS Showcase should have originally came with DJ20 radio.. I too made the mistake of flashing a Fascinate radio trying to get my TXTs to work with Evil Fascinate rom "awesome ROM BTW". Well I got TXTs working and lost data. Afterwards I have flashed all the Showcase ROMS, even the one with EB11 which supposedly works with the Showcase and data is STILL broke. So something gets changed flashing to a fascinate/mesmarize radio and back. If I knew what to look for I'd open up CDMA workshop and change it back. Anyone have any ideas? I will also add that after flashing to EB11, *228 gives me a programming failure everytime I try.
Both of you are running radios not built for cell south. Go to irc and get help. And stop flashing odin files not for your phone if you don't know what you're doing. Roms don't include a radio, so flashing them isn't going to fix your problem.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Not to mention, if you have cell south then you have a showcase, not a mesmerize. Hopefully that'll help you in the future. They are different, even if just slightly.

This isn't my first goat roping.. I've been flashing phones since the early Nokia days. I'll tell you what there isn't though, I list of radios and what hardware/carrier they are good for. I have a T-Mobile HD2 and soon a G2X and at least in the HD2 thread they warn which radios are ONLY for the T-Mobile variant.. in a RADIO Sticky thread. Can you blame me.. EVERY one of these phones whether a Fascinate, Mesmerize.. or in this case a Showcase "branded as a Galaxy S" all have the hardware model number of SCH-i500! I only found the Mesmerize threads warning of problems AFTER I had convinced myself that the phone in my hand was a Fascinate after searching the model number on google, and the first stop was XDA Fascinate forums. I think XDA needs to invest in grouping the phones better as the list on the main page is growing out of control.. would also help in the confusion and problems such as what I have encountered.
It's not xda's fault you assumed that everything for a fascinate would work for a showcase. A little research would have yielded the obvious answer that no, they are not all the same. Why else would there be separate forums for them? And separate versions of roms for the mes/showcase? Because they are different. And the radios are not universal, which is why you no longer have data. Again, go to the mes irc and they can get you back on track with a showcase flash.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
What I am getting at is that ALL of these SCH-i500 model phones shouldn't have their own main thread.. mesmerize, fascinate, galaxy s, showcase, etc etc.. just because carrier X has given them a unique branding name.. hell, I didnt even know this phone was a "Showcase", it says Galaxy S on the back of the cover.. if you look here under galaxy S it has a model of i9000! If the hardware is in fact identical, the main thread should be devoted to it.. such as HTCs code names. Yes.. assumptions are bad but I did do a good bit of research.. it was only until I F'd up and had to search for the problem I was having that even more searching revealed that the phone I had wasn't a fascinate. Now the problem at hand.. the phone isn't bricked, its just the radio flash has changed something.. and even flashing back to a compatible radio didn't change this certain thing back. If it could be changed it should be able to be changed back.

All galaxy s phones are not the same, which is exactly why they have separate forums. You have not flashed a radio that is compatible for your phone because, as I said, roms do NOT include the radio. There is not a standalone radio flash available for the showcase. Your only option to get this fixed is to go to the mes irc chat and get what you need there.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I've been to the mesmerized IRC channel and I have d/l the EB11 Showcase rom which in fact included the radio. It did not fix the data issue. Are you trying to say all SCH-I500 model phones are not the same hardware apart from differing software? Do they have different ram or flash ammounts? From everything I've seen they are identical: 1 GHz Hummingbird Cortex A8, 384 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM... difference ROM/software. As I've said before.. somehow flashing the fascinate radio "EC01" has changed some internal register and flashing back to the EB11 SC radio will not change the appropriate register back. I've seen much harder problems fixed by people of the XDA forum.. just not enough users with SC phones to warrant an investigation by the people who would know how to correct this particular problem.
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App
The hardware is probably identical except the actual wireless transceiver that is built for each carriers network. In some cases, you can use a different radio (the software that operates the transceiver) and it will work. But the problem with any software not written expressly for your device is not the device itself, rather the problem is that the software does not contain the proper id, settings, and configuration for your carrier. That is why everything on xda always carries with it the "at your own risk" disclaimer.
That being said, most of the folks in the irc are experienced devs, who would probably be glad to try and help you remedy the pickle you're in, if you asked nicely. If you go in there with a "this is your fault, fix it" sort of attitude, then you may be **** out of luck.
Do you have to brown nose them? No. But it couldn't hurt. They put up with a lot of **** here, and fortunately they keep providing us new and exciting software to experiment with. For free.
That's my two bits. Do what you will.

I have all the respect in the world for the development.. they make our phones more than just a communicating device but a fun gadget and hobby for some. I'm well aware of the risks for this hobby.. I've had my share of mistakes believe me. Its more a gripe about xda-dev forum than this device.. back when there were only a dozen phones on here it was hard to mistake them apart.. I bought an O2 xda II s because there wasn't a GSM phone like it at the time.. now we have literalle a hundred different model phones and now different branding of the same phone on different carriers.. organization here is critical.. almost overwhelming. My first search gave me a result.. but not exactly the correct information. Cellular south is not large enough to have their own device threads.. I've known that for a long time. The only info I had was it was called a galaxy s and had a model of sch-i500. My search of galaxy s landed a model of i9000.. I knew that was not correct so I figured CS just slapped the name galaxy s on another device.. marketing blah. My next search of the model landed the fascinate device which looked identical so I figured I had it.

Edited the OP
Well, now that we have berated you enough (Lol) lets see if we can help you remedy the situation. So calls and texts work, but no data. Is there a data icon? 3g or 1x?
If you can gain access to the hidden menu you may be able to learn a bit more about whats causing this. At one point my phone (for whatever reason) was stuck in 1x only. I opened the hiddenmenu and changed it to force evdo (3g) waited till it changed to 3g mode, and then switched it back to hybrid.
Sometimes tinkering makes a world of difference. Im not really sure what else to tell you from here... I'm no dev by any means.
Btw, some of the info in the hiddenmenu is generic. For example, I have uscc yet even on a stock rom some of the messaging configurations have crap related to vzw (verizon wireless). If you screw something up, a fresh reflash of the Odin package should set the hiddenmenu options back to default again.
Hopefully someone with more experience than me, who knows all about radios and the like, will step in and direct you further.
Edit: Btw, wolfstar, I'm sorry dude I didn't mean to hijack your thread. My dumb ass didn't pay close enough attention to realize that there's two people in this thread with similar problems...

Not a problem, lol. I did get my problem fixed though. I'm not gonna lie, I have NO idea how, but I did.
To answer your question, no, I did not have 3G or 1x by my signal. Just the signal bar.
To answer how I fixed it, I wish I could tell you guys. I went to the IRC and someone pointed me to a stock ROM which I flashed, and it didn't work. That was an EB11 rom I do believe. Then I did some searching and apparently I found out that no one really has the full stock EB11 rom because the modem would never get fully flashed, and I was like, maybe that's my problem because I went from EC10, which was not supported for my device but for some reason still gave me signal to call people and what have you, to EB11. Well I was like, since there is no EB11 I'll go to the one below which is DJ20. When I did, it didn't work. I was so disappointed. Turned out the DJ20 rom didn't have the modem in it at all, because I check my About Phone menu and I still had EB11 for the baseband. Well I did the *228 just for the giggles, (NOTE: I have been doing the *228 every time I flashed a rom when trying to fix my issue, just to see if maybe it will fix something.) and let my phone reboot. When it turned back on, still no data. This was my last straw, because I had honestly run out of every option I had left. I set it down to think what else there could be to do, picked it back up and unlocked it and BAM, 3G. I have no idea how, or why, but somewhere in what I did it fixed it. Maybe when I went back down to DJ20 and did *228 it downloaded what little bit I was missing in the transition from DJ20 to EB11. It's my only hypothesis.
Thank you guys for all the help. I know you guys didn't have the answers but at least you tried.
ALSO. I did go through my settings with each flash, to make sure they were correct, and they were all on. So I know that my data was on in each flash.
I hope that maybe someone can use this little bit of info one day to either AVOID this or FIX it. Goodluck!
Glad you got it fixed! yeah I remember reading something about cell south demanding its packages removed or something? Apparently they are uberstingy. Anyway, good job and thanks for posting it here for others.

crap.. I could have sworn I too flashed back to a dj20 rom but maybe not. The roms contain APN settings correct? would anything BUT an original Showcase rom in theory not work? It doesnt make sense because even after flashing to the EB11 Showcase rom my data still did not work.. its almost like there is some NVRAM that stores APN settings that must be set by an original flash. Wolf, after you flashed EB11 did *228 give you a failure every time you tried it?

No, every time I did *228 it was always successful and it would reboot my phone, but even after it rebooted it was still the same. Check your About Phone and see if you have the EB11 Baseband, if you, try what I did and get the DJ20 ROM and do the *228.

No matter what i do, rom i flash, partition i wipe.... wallet force closes and does not work. i am using the nexus 4g. even if i unroot and roll back to 2.3.4 wipe everything multiple ways, accept ota updates just like i did before, wallet fails.
so ive rooted and unrooted before 2.3.7, took the ota and everything was dandy.
all i did was root a few days later and it was done. i am convinced there is some data on the nfc chip just like data was being saved on the gps when switching certain evo roms. Why would simply rooting the phone break wallet when sooo many people are running it rooted? almost wanna take it to sprint....

Also, make sure you're copying the 2.3.7 versions of:
com.android.nfc_extras.jar > system/framework
com.google.android.nfc_extras.xml > system/etc/permissions.
If you know how to sign APKs, make sure Wallet and Nfc have the same signature. If you don't know how, copy over Nfc as well to system/app and wipe cache either way.
Hope that works. Good luck.

The key is to flash the wallet fix rite on top of the rom you flash. In the same recovery session. Works everytime.

Nope. Did not work for me. Mine was done no matter what I did.
Has anyone had any luck rdt? I tried catalystcorp's method on several nightlies (yes I saw note for stock gb use only) but always end up in boot loop.
My work location has no available wifi and I get throttled every month.
Or has anyone found a way to repackage any system files so less data gets chewed up?
Thanks for your time!

If you had followed the thread as you say you would know there was a change at T-Mobile and noway around getting throttled. It is now done on the T-Mobile side instead of the phone.
Thanks for the snarky reply.
If you had read my post completely, I also asked if anyone found a way to repackage system files.
Like I said, my place of work has no available wifi and I rely HEAVILY on using carrier. Just trying to find any possible solution to make it month to month

Either break into T-Mobile or pay for a higher data cap. Nothing on your end can ever stop it, no matter what. The tracking is on TMO's end.

Which I was tellling him. People get upset if they don't hear what they want. OP you may set it to use 2g only to lower the flow coming in.
