FPse the best psx1 emulator for android - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

After purchasing psdroid I was disappointed with the speed, i thought to myself "this could be better" don't take me the wrong way, i was happy to be able to play my old psx games, but the speed and sound suffered.
Then I heard about FPse and thought to try it, unfortunately it was only for 2.2+, so began the journey to root and upgrade to 2.2, I cranked up FreeX10 and quickly dl FPse. After some simple configuration i fired it up. Wow! It works flawlessly, every game I played worked at full speed with perfect sound, and each game can be assigned its own configuration, so every time you start your game it remembers the configuration for that game. There is also a nice screen smoother. If you have 2.2 and love the psx then buy it

PSX4Droid - Any issues?

I was thinking about checking this emulator out to finally (maybe) play FF7. However, when I looked at it in the market, there were a lot of complaints about it not being updated anymore, and some performance/playability issues? Has anyone recently tried it on recently released phones (I have a stock DroidX)?
plays great on my incredible
There are many problems with the emulator. It will only run SOME games okay. The games it runs just seem to be random.
FF7 will work just fine... seems to be an easy game to emulator. However, another simple game like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is unplayable.
Most games are probably unplayable if you like sound. The sound is so bad on most games that you have to mute it.
The list of games that work perfectly is probably under 20... and most of those are games you don't care about
The emulator is no longer supported by the developer. He even made a comment on twitter saying "what needs to be updated?"
The emulator ignores the phones GPU and only runs off of the CPU... so faster phones don't get any performance gain. It also needs a ton of compatibility fixes, as there are so many games that just do not work.
With that being said, if the only game you want to play is FF7, you're in luck! Is it worth the money? Not if you ask me.....
Is there another PS emulator that is better supported, and works with more games?

[Q] psx4droid tested yet?

Anyone tested psx4droid yet?
it works ok for me, however wiimote will not work on tnt. it will work on zpad however.
Plays a ton of games at full speed, but the v-pad sucks for most games. Gtablet plays the following games smoothly with sound. Please note that 1.5 and 1.6 are a LOT faster than 1.7 (current version in market).
Sound is fairly rough for a lot of games though: Some are ok.
Sample of more cpu killing games for other Android devices:
Dead or Alive
Bloody Roar 2
Crash Racing
Tekken 3
NFL Blitz 2001
NBA Live 2001
March Madness 2000
NBA Showtime
Tobal 2 (when in game)
Rival Schools
There are others, but Tegra 2 handles these very well. Of course, no current way to play the games decently, since no control options other then the virtual pad.
Games play rather well with the v-pad on the Incredible and Droid X, but smaller design (closer controls & lighter) and actual touch response & multi touch is better on those devices. Catch is those devices plays all the games noted above slow, except Crash Racing.

Nice. You say 1.5 and 1.6 run smoother. Do you have .APK for one of the older versions?

Yes (from older Titanium BU), but it is apparently linked to my gmail account (would not work until I set my account up on Gtablet). It is a paid app, but the irony is the one on the market (1.7) absolutely sucks compared to 1.5 & 1.6.
Not sure why the dev takes backsteps.
You should have no problem finding the apk. In this situation, can not blame you since the current version is a lost cause.
so is 1.6 better than 1.5
ok so i got it but not sure which version, any way to find the version #.
the bios it came with, i also know nothing about. are there better bios than others?
do you know anywhere i can get a good pack of roms already packed
My Titanium backup showed 1.5, but a way to tell if you have 1.7 is they added some graphics options which are not in the older versions. There should only be scaling mode and framerate adjustment in 1.6 and lower. If you see extra settings for graphics in the menu (can not remember what they are), you have the new 1.7 version.
uh oh, 1.7 i guess haha. i'll look for some alternate .apk's
if anyone else has trouble finding apps for free i just google this...
".apk" "index of /" "NAMEOFAPPHERE"
works well for me!! thanks for all the info though!
searching for roms. is there a certain type that work?
i found listed as NTSC. not sure if there are other types but will these play probably ?
The version number is in the top right hand corner in application info (application manager). Mine says "1.5".
Best bet is eboot files, since they are smaller compressed versions of the iso files. I use eboots, since you can fir almost 2X the roms in the same space (on average).
Eboots are PSX games formatted to work on the PSP. They work here too.

Yes, but 1.1 is best for speed, but has some graphics issues (example is special weapon boxes missing in Crash Racing). This is rare though.
1.1 is easy to find by doing a search for 1.1 and psx4droid.
Worth buying though- assuming the dev fixes the 1.7 fiasco. The dev should at least offer 1.5 or 1.6 as a separate market download for paid users.
I was told v1.61 is the best one available.
I mean v1.7 has the most/best features but sufferes from a lag.
v1.1 has the best speed which is equal in v1.6, but v1.6 is slightly faster for those weaker devices (eg Milestone).
v1.6 has some new features not present in v1.1
I'm guessing a v1.8 may be released later on which is simply v1.7 minus the lag
After that (v1.8) I believe it would remain quite stagnant as zodtt wants to focus on his other projects; vlc4droid and n64droid and not to mention his apps for iOS.
Yep, 1.5 & 1.6 are best for combination of speed and all graphics visible. 1.1 is fast, but gets away with it since some graphics are missing Example is Crash Racing. 1.5 seems as fast as 1.1, but has all the graphics.
1.6 begins the step to the dark side of lag (works for a few games well, most not so much). 1.7 is even more niche and a big step backwards for the app.

Mame4droid - New MAME emulator on the market

Haven't tried it yet, but grab it quick... emulates 0.37b5 ROM list. Yes, it supports Xperia Play buttons.

Nice find. Testing romset now
I prefer this to jrioni, it has a better user interface.
Games run at good speed, just as good as jrioni, and I find the sound better in this.
Still no save states that I can see though.
Posting for tiger kings emulator to own them all. Mame needs save states to be functional imho. I play for 5 minutes at a time at work and can't progress in games without save states.
The good thing about this emulator is that it saves all your high scores. with Jromi you have to manually save and load your high scores.
My Metal Slugs and CPS2 games dont seem to work though.

They are *arcade* games. They're only meant to be played for 5 minutes at a time. Only purpose for savestates is if you are cheating your way through a game with infinite quarters.

Totally disagree with this.
Some games take 30+ minutes to beat and complete. Some are even longer taking 1 hour+ to beat.
You forget that this is a mobile device. Which means you are playing games on the move.
People playing on trains, aeorplanes, cars, 10 minute work breaks, sitting at the bus stop, sitting on the toilet (yea i do this ), etc etc etc
You want to continue your game, but at a later date.

This sentence makes zero sense if you sit to think about it.
"Infinite Quarters" are there whether you have save states or not
Completing metal slugs, alien vs predator, final fight, street fighter, strider, rampage, ghould n ghosts, heck LOADS of games take ALOT longer than 5 minutes.
If you played ghould n ghosts for 5 minutes at a time, you would forever be playing the first level.
What is the point in that?
Yes, it is inconclusive, save states ARE needed.
However i have some unfortunate news, MAME4ALL will NEVER have save states, since it is based on a version of MAME that doesnt have them either.
Our only hope is to see what magic Tiger King can produce.
Anyway, no disrespect to Jrioni, i was one of the people that loved and bought his version of Mame.
I support him ALL the way.
But this version of Mame i prefer, the UI is superior to Jrioni. And since it is free, there is no need to purchase Jrioni anymore.
Anyone who wants to play Mame games, this is now the best version.
Glad I held off from buying Jrioni now. Was waiting for save states.
This seems better, though without save states as well.
...and to say Save States are not needed on a mobile device is well...I'm not going to get into it again...but its pretty stupid.

does Mame4droid support dip switches?
reason why i ask its pointless playing mame games for me on medium setting, i like to crank the difficulty up on games, otherwise no challenge !

No it doesnt.
Which is quite annoying because i cant change the analog sensitivity for games like Paperboy, which is unplayable on Mame4Droid because he steers to the left all the time.
Jrioni's graphics seem to be a bit better too. Mame4droid is a bit blockier.
Sound and speed works best on Mame4Droid though. And Mame4Droid is far more user friendly in setting up screen sizes etc.
mame4droid support dip switches u can enable it during in games by pressing select+start at the same time will bring up the menu, only the bad side is the graphic blockier but enable smooth graphic the games lag if it can fixed this then this is the best emu u can get for play.
Does the APP comes with roms or do you have to download them if so from where?! does the app run well on the sony play?

Yes!
Dip switches work.
This is hands down the best Mame emulator for Android. The only thing that can top this is save states or support for newer ROM sets.
Guy above. Don't ask for roms here. They are easily findable with any search engine.
for the roms to work with this Emulator what file type do the roms need to be?
It tells you on the market download page

I must be doing something wrong because even though sound is a bit better than Jrioni's, this emus is much slower, almost unplayable. So I will stick to Jrioni.

What games are you seeing that are slower?
For instance Three Wonders, and Mortal Kombat 2 does not work. On a second attempt I uninstalled it and downloaded from Market and works fine now.
FYI Three Wonders works perfectly in Tiger Arcade 2.20
I'm trying to put this on my ATT Captivate and I can not get the games to show up on the program. I know that I have the right versions of the games. After installing the program, I checked the SD card to see if a ROMs folder was created. There wasn't any so I created a ROMs/Mame4all/roms folder which didn't help. I tried to move the program to the SD card, but I couldn't see the folder when I put the card in a reader. What am I doing wrong?
Never mind. It was on the phone. I was able to see the folder after plugging the phone directly into the computer.

Yet another Final Fantasy thread...

Ok guys i hate to bother you with this again.
But I keep reading posts where people talk about how awesome FF VII, VIII and IX run on their android phones with FPSE but i cant for the life of me get either one of them to work good enough to be playable.
I got the latest version of FPSE and ive tried different settings, overclocking, different ISOs and all that good stuff, but I have yet to find the right settings to make the games work well enough for me to want to play them xD
Of course i can get them to run, but either the sound is just plain bad, or the menu is invisible while fighting, or the resolution is just really crappy.
No matter what i do the quality of the FF games is really bad on FPSE.
I am really sorry to bring this up again, but if anyone is getting good results with FPSE please share some of your knowledge with me
Not fpse, PSXperia.
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201532
Works on 2.3.3 only
This will make ff7 run to perfection

Confirmed working for me
This post was brought to you by:
xperia play, xda app, gingerbread and SwiftKey x
just wondering, how does PSXperia handle games with multiple discs?
No idea what to do, I've read that on the PSP, you had to merge the discs into one .ISO, but again, no idea how I go about doing that... bleh
Aw man I had hoped there would be a way to improve FPSE's performance. Im really enjoying the new CyanogenMod. Works like a charm.
So only way atm to actually play PSX Games is to go back to 2.3.3 stock and figure out how to work PSXperia right?
yap.
As for multidisk, just extract the save file folder in sd/android/data/sony.ps.ncxa_70001 (Disk 1) and put it somewhere safe, then put in Disk2 data file, and put the safe file in there. It should work the same
If your using Cynanogen7 then maybe you can download PsPocket?
uhm where could i download pspocket? oO and what exactly would that do for me?
I'm assuming cm7 doesn't have It, so you can use it as an alt to fpse

Same here. SAME SPECIFIC two games also: i played through 1/2 of FF7, and 3/4 of FF9....both were extremely playabale! Maybe a stutter here or there....but still had an awesome time playing them
I found it works better if you leave all video settings default, Don't use any of the frameskip options... Video had a higher fps for me this way. For better sound, enable it under Audio settings and make sure the .cue file for each game is in same folder as the .img/.bin files for that game. Hope this helps
Err ok ill have to give it another try. Thanks for the tips guys.
OK sorry guys, but I'm having some issues xD I can't figure out why the sound isn't working on any of my ff games its like all the effect sounds are bugged. Like when you find an item or so it's just a single beep instead of the whole sound... I'm using .img files.
Anyone got similar problems?

Must Have HTC G1 (Dream) Games

The G1 is still kicking, we all know its a pretty old phone, but i am still using it, since it runs Froyo and pretty fast.
A lot of games i download from the market, doesn't run on my G1, but if it does, it will lag as hell. The G1 does have a decent graphics capability, but certainly not good for a lot of new games and games that need a lot of resource.
Here we go, the top 5 games i play on my G1.
1. Air Control
Air Control. In this simple yet addictive drawing game you take on the role of Air Traffic Controller. It is your job to direct airplanes to runways while avoiding collisions.
2. Doodle Jump
Doodle Jump. WARNING: Insanely Addictive! Jump, jump, jump to the top, top, top with the runaway hit now on Android! Guide the Doodler on a springy journey using springs, jet packs and more. Avoid baddies and blast them with your nose balls!
3. Xconstruction
Build railway tracks with the given material and run the train across the bridge. The game is extremely good.
4. Bonsai Blast
Experience the Zen of gaming nirvana with this addictive puzzle game. Shoot marbles to match 3 or more and create combos to cause a chain reaction.
5. Snesoid Emulator
You can simply forget about all the above games, if you get this emulator, i have this installed on my G1 and i download free roms from sites like RomNation and CoolRoms and play all the classic Super Nintendo games. I currently have 157 nintendo games on my G1, and there are 1000s more to download. The best part is these games has less file size. This app will work great on the G1 since, you can config the keyboard like a controller(joystick) and play without touching the screen.
If you want to try NES games, you can get Nesoid App from the market.
I will keep updating this posts with more games, you can list your favorites below, i will try them and add to the list.
Help
I love my G1 - but games are out of the question. In fact now I can't install ANY apps, even after a factory reset.
I don't know why this is because I used to have over ten....now I'm getting a low memory warning with nothing....no pictures, no music ZERO.
Now I think something is wrong somewhere...I don't think the reset I'm doing is actually wiping what I need to wipe and it's all hanging about somewhere.
What I need to know is - if I install a different ROM will I get my memory back? And how can I do a deaper wipe of the Internal storage? Clearly you have apps on your phone...an I don't want to buy a new phone until ICS has acclimatised.
