[Q] 32GB micro sd showing as 32MB - General Questions and Answers

I don't believe this is device specific hence in the general area.
I have a 32GB sandisk card in my Dell Streak, after loading the clockwork orange mod my sandisk (class 2) 32GB shows up at 32MB and unformatted/raw etc
It looks as though the geometry of the card has been changed. It is now showing
3 cylinders, 255 heads and 63 sectors.
My 16GB Kingston (class 10) has 1973 cylinders 255 heads and 63 sectors
Is it just as simple as changing the cylinders from 3 to 3946?

I am having the same problem with my 32gb sd card. Any way to fix it?

Nope I never found a way.
It was the 32GB microsd that came with my Dell Streak, in the end I just returned the whole thing.
There must be some software that can do it but I never found it

Did you do anything to the SD Card ? like formatted it or partitioned it ? , you can try to reverse the process , but i do not know how to do so .

Try to formatting on your pc, the sdcard.

the software is called "testdisk"
Im using it now but still running into a problem

Have you tried repartitioning the card?

format yourcard: /FS:FAT /V:Sd Card /A:64k /X
yeah, just format your card. It's not the ROM.
Ta
thanks guys.. back to norm now
OK, now another similar one.
My 4GB card has gotten spoiled. Now, only 2GB is available after re-format in Card Reader. I tried re-formatting, but it never gave me back 4GB.
I do understand there could be special way to do it, as 4GB is >= 2GB which is about biggest positive 32-bit binary number...
Any insights?
I had that problem.. it's a problem with the card reader. Some card readers can't identify cards beyond 2Gb. Here's what I did, I plugged the card on my Universal... used USB HDD/WM5 Storage then formatted it on Windows. Try it.
That happened to my 4GB card awhile back. I fixed it by deleting the partition and doing a full reformat using... i think it was a toshiba utility.
I can't remeber any more details then that though

If you use a sdhc card you need to format with FAT32.

I assume that you use a MicroSoft operating system and have selected the option FAT32 during formatting. MicroSDHC cards like your Sandisk 4Gb can only be fully used with the FAT32 option.
Have you checked the size of the card using MS.
As a test, try to store small files up to the storage capacity to check if you can write beyond the 2Gb.
If you can't store beyond the 2Gb your formatting with FAT32 has failed.

thank u very much
i have tried to use more than 2gb
and i can do that
You can used MicroSDHC cards, but only with the FAT32 and sector size 16kB. Sector size is very important for right functionality.
I use Kinqston 16 GB MicroSDHC card (Class 2) without any problems.

MicroSD format problem

Hello guys
I need help with this problem. Recently I bought a 64 GB sd card. When inserted the SD card into the tablet, it tells me that i have to format. When I tell it to format, it does nothing but get stuck at "Unmounting SD Card". I then inserted the sd card into a reader and connected the reader to the my PC. I formatted the SD card with SDFormatter 4. Once the formatting(Overwrite) was done, I then stuck the SD card into my tablet again. Still didnt want to mount the card and requires to format it.
Any one know the problem? And know how to fix it?

There is quite a bit of discussion on this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611681
Post #106 on this thread explains why Sandisk class 10 cards have trouble while the class 6 cards behave. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1460201&page=11
Is there any other formatting software that will allow me to change the SD card from exFAT to FAT32?

Which card do you have? Sandisk or other? Class 10, class 6, or?
I went through two class 10 cards before I got a class 6 card. I formatted the class 6 card with "FAT32 Formatter" from Ridgecrop and that one has been in use since October of last year.

Interesting - I assume you're running an MTN GT7+... Does it recognize the entire 64GB as usable? (Just curiosity; I really don't need anything bigger than a few GB in my P6210.)

I found a less drastic solution tucked in the VZW S3 section - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1773735

Format SD Card As Internal Storage Issue

So I was able to format the 64GB SD card as internal storage and it now appears under the Storage menu. However, whenever I connect my phone to the PC to transfer some files to it, I can only see the main memory and not the extra space. So what is the benefit of doing the above if I am not able to use this additional space for files management and media storage?
Anyway I can solve that?
You may have not installed the correct/latest driver. I actually just tried this for the first time and it's the opposite. I could see my 64 GB microSD card, but not the internal storage (and yes, I did format it as internal).
the same for me, i can format like sd card , when I formated like internal storage , display me a warning (slow card) if I wish to continue, I said yes and then tell me damage SD Card .... any help please!!! sorry about my english....
my card is a SanDisk 32gb microSDHC UHS-I Class 10
I have 65 gig formatted as internal on my PC it shows as 80 gig well 74 gig really I also tried 64 gig SD card bought from eBay and told me card corrupt and ended up buying one from reputable company locally and works flawlessly

I had the same issue when I was rooted with S-ON. I have now gone back to stock and all seems to be working fine. Think it's got something to do with security/encryption maybe, I could be wrong but just a thought.

ok... I have root and s-on.... then thats the problem.... thanks....
btw if anyone advanced user have the solution... please.... thanks...
Maybe it's normal
I think it's normal. My unrooted A9 has an SD card formatted as internal storage too. When it's connected to a PC, only "Internal Storage" will be shown because it's merged by the device's internal storage and the SD card together.
You can see the space of "Internal Storage". It should be around 16G/32G (internal) + 64G (SD card).
Hope the above helps.

After trying it a several times and restarting the phone, all I can get now is the internal storage of the memory card. The additional 16 GB of the phone's original memory don't even show
Same **** for me. But my internal shows up as 10 GB?
Hi Guys,
Just installed a brand new Sandisk Class 10 64Gb SDCard and it stuck on 20% for the last 15 minutes, tried to reboot the phone and it got stuck on the white HTC Splash screen, any ideas?

Yea I went root last night and notice i can no longer see my 32gb sandisk :/

Problem

and what the maximum amount of the SD card can be used as system memory? I have a card to 64GB, and when you try to make it a system unit for a long time it formats, but it is empty and then says that the card is damaged, but if you use it like a regular card, it works fine and displays. Do not tell me what could be the problem?

My coworker had that issue with his 64gb card. But my 32 and 128 worked fine. Try formatting the sd card as fat32 maybe, then attempting to have it "adopt"?

it is not clear yet because using a USB flash drive to 32GB everything works fine, and the phone does its system memory.
