Google Maps outage? - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

A quick Twitter search suggests I am not alone in noticing this - Google Maps for mobile appears to be down for a number of users if not everyone, on both Android and iOS. I didn't notice at first because of the cached vector maps, but when I try and look up an address or a route, it times out.
I can't seem to find a thread for this so I'm starting it. If this is the wrong forum let me know.

Google Maps 3.3.1 my location not working

The GPS function works fine if I'm outside but after updating to the latest google maps the triangulation by cell towers isn't. I get, your location within 43000 meters which is the city of Los Angeles, I've tried several different options
1. resetting google maps
2. turning on/off A-GPS using advanced configuration
I'm not sure what else there is to try. Having google maps find my location with 500 meters was still useful while indoors and trying to map directions. Anyone have an idea what's causing this?
Thank you!
I have this problem too. I told Google about it, and it looks like they're working on it.
If you want to chime in on the CDMA issue and let them know it's not just me who it was working for before (they're shocked that a CDMA phone was getting a location w/o GPS) then go *here* and make a post
I'm having the same issue. I just added a reply to your google forum post.

Yup, I noticed. It's nice to have someone on there coroberating my story lol
Thanks
i added a reply to the thread, in the meantime, I found an older version that seems to work, 3.0.0.2

I've attached 3.2.1, that's the last version that it works properly in.

Google News & Weather Widget Problems?

Wondering if any developer folks have noticed a problem with the Google News & Weather widget yesterday and today? I installed this on my EVO (GenieWidget.apk) because I love its simplicity and elegance, but it has been telling me "Sorry, unable to connect. Please try later" with a "Retry now" button.
I've discovered it's not just me, but other Android phone users too, so it could be an issue with the Google servers, but the thing that I'm trying to work out is who to contact about the problem. Is this a Google-developed widget or is there someone else who can be asked? Has this happened before and is there a fix?
I'm guessing there isn't much that can be done, but I thought I'd ask anyway.
I have the same problem. Can't find any info on who to go to on this.
Same problem here, it's got to be at Google's end (it's part of 2.x). I expect they're aware of it by now though.
same (UK), it's just not giving new content at all, last one is around 23-24h ago
Interesting. On another forum, I saw mention of a company called PalmarySoft who are apparently the provider of the backend of the widget (though I can't confirm that). They have had some kind of DDoS attack. Not sure if that'd be enough to kill the widget entirely, but who knows. Miss it already, one of my favorites, let's hope it gets fixed soon.
same thing here in tampa
it worked once this morning around 8:00 am for a few minutes, then couldnt connect again
and just when i got shawn1224's transparent version (no background)
http://www.4shared.com/file/IrjCMniv/GenieWidget.html
The server that supplies the News and weather is under a Ddos attack. Google Places is down too.

Youtube

It's not really much, but I have noticed that finding youtube on the market is incredibly difficult. Whenever I search "youtube," I get hundreds of results that are not youtube before I give up. I realize that it can be done by scanning a QR code, but I deal like google should at least have a better search engine for the market.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
When I search for "youtube" in the market it's usually in the first 3 results that are shown :/. That's wierd, I know the market is based on phone carrier and region but still you'd think something as common as "youtube" would get roughly the same results regardless of configuration.
might going to m.google.com and clicking youtube help? Just thinking off the top of my head.
Search by Publisher perhaps?
"pub:Google Inc."
Powered by Android
https://market.android.com/search?q=youtube
Look for the official one, should be 4th
That's strange - I get it as the 4th result when I search. I'm on T-Mobile in the US -- same as you?

Address bar suggestions not showing up in Chrome

For some reason today, when I type a search query or URL in the address bar in Chrome, no predictions are coming up. I have the 'Search and URL suggestions' box ticked in settings/privacy.
I tried switching the search engine to Yahoo instead of Google and started getting suggestions again, but I much prefer the suggestions that Google makes. I've tried restarting my phone, clearing data from Chrome in Apps, Force closing Chrome, uninstalling updates to Chrome etc. Nothing.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get address bar predictions to come back?
Thanks
Same issue here.

I've got the same issue too, and just noticed this today! But I have an HTC One M8 (AT&T version).
See my Google product forums post about this:
https://productforums.google.com/fo...e=footer#!msg/chrome/xTTHziAr1C0/9b7w4CHSiQYJ
Maybe if others reply to my thread on there (stating that you also have the problem) Google will take notice of it?
Interestingly the search suggestions *do* show up if I use Google Now or Firefox or default HTC browser, or pretty much in any other app (even Google Play) that uses Google search. Just not in Chrome (any more).
As my thread says, it *used* to work in Chrome just fine. If I try to "uninstall" Chrome, meaning roll it back to the oldest default version that came with the phone, then Google search suggestions again work just fine. But then soon Chrome auto-updates and it doesn't work again.
So… since I'm not the only one experiencing this, I'm thinking that a recent Chrome update must have caused this, in which case a lot more people should be noticing it soon… I hope. I'm not sure when the latest Chrome update was, or if this only effects certain devices, or what.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, please share!
thanks

Mine seems to work fine... Unfortunately too fine. My "bad" sites are showing up as history items when I clearly used them incognito...

Has anyone managed to figure out what's causing this? I posted on the nexus 5 reddit and it seems a couple of other people are also having the same issue.

So I looked further into it, and it's "Google Instant" and apparently it'snot working on a bunch of phones, including the LG G2... I can't tell if its an LG thing or Android thing. Apparently Chrome Beta has this issue as well... but not on my Chrome Desktop
Can confirm this started happening to my phone too. Seems to be a problem with clearing history too. Weird.

Ah is it all phones or just a few models?
Same issue here. Not exactly sure when it stopped working...
I get this to. I think it started last night. If i uninstall and go back to the preinstalled chrome found in kitkat 4.4.2 it works fine. Or if I switch to bing as search engine It will work.
trying to google it I'm not getting too much for this. So I'm thinking it might be just us 4.4.2 users???
Hope it gets fixed soon
I thought it was only me. Spent an hour or so trying to figure it out. Hopefully gets sorted out soon.

I too am having similar issues and can't find a single suggestion that fixes the problem. When I type in the address bar, auto suggestions do appear, but they are only from my search history and bookmarks. None of them are search suggestions like when using google.com.
I did follow the instructions provided to enable Google Suggestions in the address bar, then use Ctrl+K to place the cursor in the Omnibox to conduct a search, and begin to enter query you will receive query suggestions. That is, when Google.com is the default search engine.

Thanks for the advice. I think you're referring to the desktop browser whereas we are all referring to the Chrome browser on the Nexus 5.
My search predictions seem to be back again which is good. Has anyone else got theirs back?
Mine's working again.
[SOLVED -- Thanks Google :^).]
Confirmed… Google fixed this! :^)

Google Services connectivity issues

Hey guys. Really need some help here. I woke up this morning with google services connectivity issues. For some reason I can only connect to the play store, retrieve email in Gmail, refresh my files on drive etc while on wifi. While on LTE i get no connectivity at all. Other apps work fine. I can browse and stream on chrome, check gmail via chrome, use other apps etc. I have not the slightest idea what is causing this issue.
a huge percentage of my usage is with Google Music, i am a subscriber to all access. I am really sad that i have no tunes now, only the songs that are cached to my phone will play while on my mobile network.
I cant even send or recieve messages via the hangouts app. Ugh!
I am on a rooted Nexus 5 currently running aokp kitkat nightly 2014-04-18
I am really frustrated as I am sure you guys can understand. Any assistance/guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Please let me know if there is any other info I can provide to help you guys give me some advice.
Thanks!

i have the issue as well. found out several minutes after it started, as i noticed something keeping my device awake. looked, then realized it was trying to sync but couldnt. then play store and hangouts wouldnt work, so i realized it was a google issue.
Good to see this post. I was just starting to think it was just me or t-mobile. I was only abel to get connected to google services by wifi. but what did help me was to turn off and on airport mode to force it to re-sign into the cell tower with a new connection. But I think google has fixed the problem by now. So far google services are working fine with my cell connection.
