I currently use my ipod as my primary mp3 player, and I have it connected to my home stereo. I LOVE having it on the dock, and I can use the remote control to change songs from in the kitchen while I'm doing stuff. I would like to switch out to using my phone, but I don't want to lose the ability to use the remote. It is a pain in the ass to run back into the living room every time I want to skip a song. I'm getting a new phone soon, so I was wondering if there are any android phones that you can use with a remote control? I REALLY don't want an iphone, but I'm considering it because I can use my ipod dock. Also, when I google remote for android phone, I only get results for apps that let you use your android phone as a remote control, which is not what I want. The few that I have seen also have headphones and built in mic. Seems like they are more designed for hands free phone operation while in the car. Not exactly what I'm looking for...

Does anyone know of an i/r remote that can control our android phones?
my daughters ipod charging dock came with an i/r remote that allows her to change songs from a distance with the remote. if only the dock would charge her ipod instead of giving a "this device is not a supported accessory" error... i hate apple!
i have a whole house audio system with keypads in all of the bedrooms that can transmit i/r commands back to a device to change channels/songs/etc. i have it setup to change songs on the ipod from anywere in the house which is fantastic, but the ipod won't charge on the dock .
i would love to replace the ipod with my anroid phone, but i have not seen a charging dock that also has an i/r sensor. it would be absolutely fantastic to have this option, and if anyone has any recommendations, i'd love to hear them.

Is there a way to make my Android phone (whatever it is) as an bluetooth headphone/headset?
I'll try to explain it in other words. I want for example route all my PC AUDIO STREAM (IN/OUT) to my Android via Bluetooth and manage it from Android.
So the end configuration would be an Android as an headset able to stream the audio from Android's Mic to my PC and to receive an audio from PC.
Same thing as between two Android Phones.
I mean, when i'm receiving a call, it would be nice to forward that call to another Android phone via bluetooth because the other Android phone will be like a Bluetooth headset.
I'll really appreciate all kind of suggestions.

I did some searching both online and in the market myself and couldn't find anything related to these purposes. I would like an app for this so that I can lay in bed and watch a movie without disturbing others with the audio. I could just listen to headphones through my Droid X.
The most likely software developer to develop something like this, and has yet to make any smartphone appearances is Soundflower. I love Soundflower on my mac and it makes so much sense that they would develop an app for something like this.

Hi, digging up, I was looking for this kind of feature to watch movies fullscreen VLC on my desktop computer from my bed, without having to buy meters of extra headphone cable or a wireless headphones.
I came accross Jamcast which uses wifi network instead, but it's much too complicated, laggy, and expensive shareware.
Bluetooth is the way to go, but we need to be able to use android as a bluetooth headset.
Anyone got news ?
I'm also interested with doing this. Found any app for this purpose?

Unless your phone has InfraRed port(Which I doubt android phones have since its old), no.
My buddy uses Unify4life from his Blackberry. It uses bluetooth to transmit to a small receiver that relays infrared to his whole home theater. It controls everything he has. I’m sure the Android world will get something similar soon.
For years I've been handling all the music in my car via a first-gen iPod mini under the passenger seat connected to a Harman/Kardon Drive+Play. It's got its flaws, but it works great. I turn on the car and it picks right up where it left off. The control is mounted right where my hand expects it to be and the screen is easily visible. No fuss, no muss.
I'm wondering if I can accomplish something similar with my Nexus One. What I DON'T want to do is have some complex setup where every time I get in the car I have to connect three cables and put the phone in some gawdy clamp mount, then be awkwardly trying to use the touch screen while driving, then having to stop playback and disconnect everything when I get out of the car.
I'm looking for a solution that is either one cable or automatic bluetooth. Preferably there would be an external monitor screen. I'd like a manual control that I could mount by the arm rest or steering wheel and use without looking at it. At minimum, I could do music and calls. Navigation would be a plus.
Does anything like this currently exist?
Sounds like your after any number of car headunits that support AD2P (audio over bluetooth), bluetooth voice, and navigation. Alpine, Eclipse and Kenwood all make good units that should do what you want. You should be able to leave your phone in your pocket and just have it connect via bluetooth when your in range.
I've had minimal success with the various Pioneer headunits due to them not supporting AD2P without additional controllers = more money.
I hadn't thought of just replacing the head unit but I suppose I'm due. I browsed Crutchfield but there's no filter for A2DP capability. Anyone have any suggestions for a DIN head unit with integrated A2DP and a color LCD screen?
I'm currently using a jvc kd-r900. It comes with a little Bluetooth adapter that you can plug into the rear USB port. I have it setup to auto start car home when it connects to the bluetooth. Usually by the time I get in, start the car and put my seat belt on, my phone is connected and ready to play music/calls/GPS/etc. I can start music either from my phone or just pressing the play/pause button on the head unit. Works really great. I can switch songs pause/play and make calls directly frm the head unit without having to touch my phone. My wife had her phone in her purse in the back seat and was still able to play music without touching the phone
Overall pretty pleased with the unit and it works great with my n1.

Can you browse/navigate Artist, Album, Track, etc. from the head unit? If so, this is probably exactly what I'm after.
I can't browse using the headunit. It only allows my to play/pause and skip tracks.

This might be dumb. But do all android phones have this a2dp feature? Isn't it just the same as a Bluetooth headset sort of, so they ALL must have it? If so I'm definitely getting a new stereo! I just want to make sure that after my nexus I can still use this feature!
A2DP is a software thing. So as long as the phone has a Bluetooth 2.0 chip (the G1 does) and the operating system supports A2DP (At minimum, Froyo does) then you're good to go.
I use a THB BURY CC9060 Music. Full Bluetooth kit with full music control from a remote dash mounted screen and call handling.

This topic is pasted all over the net and it doesn't seem to be getting much attention, however I think it should be brought to a better light.
The idea is simple: Enable your Android Phone or Tablet to become a bluetooth reciever(to replace a headset or bluetooth speakers) and broadcast audio to the device and broadcast microphone from the device.
This could be used in several different applications:
1. Using an Android Tablet as a Car Stereo Interface
(Connect Phone to Tablet Via Bluetooth and use it as a hands free speakerphone, or aux out to your stereo)
2. Multiple Android Phones
(Have a business and personal phone? Answer all your calls from one.)
3. Phone or Tablet as Bluetooth Speaker/Mic
(Skype, PS3, Xbox 360, TV, Google Voice)
I would use several of these options on a daily basis, and would most definitely pay good money for an app like this.
So my questions are:
1. Is this possible?
2. If it is, how hard would it be?
3. If it isn't that hard, why hasn't someone done it yet!?

Just wanted to bump this because we need to put our heads together here and get this done. I need this capability for number 1 on your list of potential uses. I also would pay good money for an app that enabled this. Phones and tablet are rooted and ready to modify whatever is needed. Ii've bumped a couple other threads today as well.

I have been looking for this for a while. I use an old LG Eve in my car and my Captivate's Wifi connection for GPS but I would love to have it work for calls and music too.
I would pay as well.

Hi there,
just wanted to leave an incentive kind of post to say that I've also been looking for exactly the same thing.
My hunting on Google play just stopped after finding this post on XDA.
It's a kind of confirmation that there isn't a solution yet.
Since our rooted androids are more than capable of acting as a Bluetooth receiver, whether they may be based on new or older hardware, this seams like a very logical step in their lifecycle instead of getting forgotten in a drawer full of old and unused electronic waste.
Some doubts:
is a2dp required for this?
Is a2dp hardware related or simply a software feature?
Personally, I could live with a simple one way communication from a phone with mobile network (sender ) to the receiver. The used mic could still be the one on the sender side.
Wouldn't even need to have the receiver in a visible place as I would just connect a stereo cable from its headset output to an aux input on a hifi or a car stereo to hear music or acting as a hands-free system.
Hope this gets some real attention.

I can't beleive there is STILL no progress on this. Maybe I'll try asking a dev that has made similar apps the feasibility of this. There are so many practical uses for this that I cannot beleive no one has capitalized on it.
This would be a killer app if done right. Who here doesn't have an old phone laying around gathering dust? This could start off small; simply enabling the phone/tablet to be essentially a Bluetooth speaker, but then gain features and an interface using A2DP, which would evolve it into a killer way to make any car (with at least a tape deck) able to have full Bluetooth integration and control. I really hope someone can do this!

yeah so a spare bluetooth phone that connects between a keyboard and PC. Acting like a BT dongle. No way I'm spending 10 bucks for that. if an app...maybe a buck but would prefer free.

May be this is not the right way to do.
I know this is a crazy old subject but others have commented so I don't feel so bad.
I want to make my own android system for my car. I have everything I need for it (hardware/software-wise) except for this one thing.
A few years back there used to be an app called Tablet Talk, it's not exactly what we want but I'm still willing to settle for something like that. The way it works is phone->tablet->handsfree Bluetooth speaker. You could make and receive calls (including seeing the contact names/phone numbers on the tablet) from the tablet itself, then the audio/microphone goes to the handsfree device. Another added feature was when a call is happening the app stops all audio coming from the tablet until the call is done.
Like I said before, it's not perfect but at this point, I don't ever see it happening any other way. I found the app a few days ago, it doesn't exist on the app store anymore, unfortunately, I could get it to run. It just kept crashing.
If anyone knows of something then please let us know.
Years later, found just this thread: I want to do similar thing: Use a private phone (for my sake rooted with custom fw) as a hands-free bt device with an unrooted business phone (non-rooted and secure managed with company tool). I also don't want call forwarding or similar. Just do and answer calls, use phone book and call list via bluetooth like my car radio do for years.
Is there still no solution?
Hey everyone. I see tons of options for streaming the display from my phone to my tv, but what about the other way around?
In my situation, I am trying to get remote play working for my PS4 to my android phone, but am encountering issues getting a Dualshock 4 controller to work properly with my phone.
If I can't get this resolved, another option would be to get a playstation TV and attach it to my bedroom tv, but it's tiny, and also about 20 feet away from the bed. Not a great option for playing games. However, if I could use the PSTV and output to my phone, that would be awesome.
Is there something that either can clone the display/sound output of a TV, or even better, something that would allow my phone to directly act as a receiver of an HDMI signal from the PSTV?
Trying to google for options leaves me empty handed because most people are concerned with outputting their phone's display to their television, and I want to go in the opposite direction.

I'm curious as to why I wouldn't 've able to directly stream what is on my tv to my phone. The PS3 has a controller that works through walls from 20+ ft away, all I want to do is be able to watch through my phone when I'm outside/ in another room.
I find it mind blowing that there isn't a single answer on Google after searching for hours.
