I challenge you Samsung

Well, I can't get my phone until friday due to some problem with att. For those of you who know fridays October first and unless samsung either comes out with a 2.2 update or an official release date by then as they previously stated they would im going to be joining the iphone crew. Cant stand this lack of support. At least with apple you know they support your device for 2-3 years. Or maybe ill just wait it out either to see what samsung does or for the white iphone.
ahh screw it
Wow... Lol.... Stfu!
I wouldn't hold your breath.
Anyway, I'd want them to figure out what the hell went wrong with the "minor" OTA that was bricking stock phones before pushing out a major update like Froyo.

You better buy that iPhone then.
Sasmsung announced 2.2 in September for the international Galaxy S NOT the captivate or any other US variant. They have clarified this a few times. Last week, they have announced that the 2.2 update for International Galaxy S is delayed until October.
I don't think they care about your ultimatum, but you should have the facts straight before making the threat.
Another useless thread.

Yaaaa! 2.2 for Canada Galaxy S folk ;)

Just read this on the way in to work this morn...
Samsung Mobile Canada has now officially announced their plans for Android 2.2 on Canadian Galaxy S Devices on their Facebook page. These devices include the Vibrant, Captivate and Fascinate and we will see an update in December with the Fascinate update coming in 2011.
Currently working to provide a tested and secure upgrade experience in Canada, the team is hard at working getting the updates out to customers.
The releases will happen as follows:
* Samsung Vibrant from Bell – Update in mid-December
* Samsung Captivate from Rogers – Update in mid-December
* Samsung Fascinate from TELLUS – Update in early 2011
Although we would have liked to see the update sooner, at least users of Galaxy S devices in Canada will get their hands on Froyo before Gingerbread becomes the most used operating system.

Well this just sets the path for us to have cooked roms. Once they get official froyo, it would probably be a breeze to port. Or that might not even be necessary and their roms might work with ours from the get go.
I so excitied for this as i originally ordered and recieved the Sony X10 but had done the research on it and sony was slacking in the software update 2.1 which the Samsung already had....so i sent the POS back and got the Captivate with rogers and am now going to be able to update to 2.2 before the X10 will offically be released with 2.1 lol Sony's a Joke

That joke got 2.1 from Rogers last weekend... 2.1 global/nordic a few weeks back and that works well on the rogers phone. Also Sony has confirmed (after lying to us for most of 2010) that they will add multi-touch to the next update coming in Q1 2011.

Personally, I don't see the point in getting the x10 over captivate since captivate has better specs in everything (except the cameras).

Actually the multitouch on the X10 is a joke.... it is a complete balls out comedy fest.
The digitisers for the x10 are so low in resolution that they have develop algorithms for the phone to actually understand what the user is trying to do.
At the moment the development appears to suck. Multitouch on the x10 will never ever be a pleasant experience. Forget about being able to play Sonic the Hedgehog.

Gingerbread

Do you guys think Samsung will release gingerbread for this phone?
no. the galaxy s and galaxy s II will get it tho. american phones from sammy get no love it seems. sad face.
However! with that said... TW will port the galaxy s gingerbread release like so many have already done with for the Vibrant. i'm sure we'll see it via xda devs.
Sammy announced yesterday that Galaxy S devices will receive Gingerbread middle of this month. That said, T-mobile will most likely push it to us. However, once it has been released soon after I would bet that Samsung will have it up on mini kies. But lets face it, don't start holding your breath.
Like Luck said, Dev's will port it. And once the vibrant get's it and we have a working CWM there will be a port for our phone's. I would bet money on it.
This is great news.
Great news even though i have no idea what's new with gingerbread other than performance which is already a steong reason to upgrade.

Gongerbread for I9000 just cane out

So if anyone hasn't heard yet, those lucky europe guys got the official gingerbread for their I9000. From I read its super quick and is still on rfs.. so hopefully some of the devs can grab that scource soon and port that bad boy over here!

Unless I'm mistaken, this doesn't affect us too much because we don't have the source code. Maybe we'll see it on samfirware.com soon.
whats gongerbread?
engadget states...
Samsung said its Android 2.3 update for the Galaxy S would come in mid-April and, by golly, it meant it literally. Sometime during the night between the 15th and 16th days of this month, the Korean manufacturer's Kies servers started serving up a fresh portion of Gingerbread to Galaxy S owners in parts of Europe, and now reports are coming in of users successfully updating their Hummingbird-equipped handsets. It's a limited rollout, benefiting the Nordic countries, Holland and Germany first, but we doubt Samsung will hold out on the rest of Europe for much longer. If you want to try your luck, boot up your Kies updating utility and pray to your nearest tech deity.

i wonder if this is gonna be tw 4.0? ill be more likely to use cm7 still but i would like to try it
From what I've seen, this is still TW 3.0. I've glanced over at the i9000 forums, and they're not saying anything about 4.0.
It will be tw3. Also we'd like to port it over to the captivate via reorientation. Make a request to http://opensource.samsung.com/ for sourcecode release.
You can also request via twitter so it pressures the PR department.
chill out, guys, this is just dongerbread. gingerbread won't be out for a while
Lol @ Gongerbread

[I9003] Samsung Mobile India confirms Gingerbread coming to Galaxy SL in July

Well that should settle the nerves now hopefully. Looking forward to Gingerbread.
They also verified it on their Twitter account here.
Great news.

Ah well, released Feb 2011, Galaxy SL i9003 users have lot to enjoy in the 18 months timeframe... We'd have ICS but waiting 2 more months for GB is a torture!
Still, good of Samsung to join the program...

That makes sense -- Samsung has really been surprisingly good on Samsung. The hardware are great and I think the software is getting better too. But as regards the 18 months update time frame Google mentioned -- I think it would be hard for the companies settle down on a consensus for that. Practical implementation is going to be a head-ache for companies with users complaining almost everywhere on blogs about that. let's see, how it goes.
BTW, it's nice to see Indians keeping a grip on latest tech, for ex. Google I/O that happened just yesterday. Indian tech is going greaT!

I just updated it on the website, thanks for the bringing it out here.
@itskapil:
Ah, I used to run a a tech blog; down for maintenance, anyway... yea, Indians have been everywhere; and quite well informed.
BTW, when the companies have joined the fast update program, I guess they have the needed resources (developer groups) to work on the updates. Who wants to spoil reputation, eh? Thats just like holding on to the drivers, custom apps and recompiling the kernel, stress/beta testing them and release. Simple like the centos or redhat ones we see...
I guess the 18 month timeframe covers android releases in that frame, not how long it takes the update to come through. So, guys stop ****ting about how long they take to release the updates.
very good news.. i own one i9003, and after the rumors of a gingerbread update, this is hte first offical claim of update for this device, the i9000 is better and well supported, but this is a good phone indeed, and with gingerbread will be even better.
Oh, atleast they have responded now!! Thank god!!
Why are the Galaxy SL threads in the Galaxy S I9000 forums, and Fascinate/Vibrant are not? Galaxy SL should have it's own section, since it's pretty much different device with another GPU and LCD screen.
Well better late than... very late!!

Exactly.. you wanna pitch in for this?? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1012290
Sorry for this noob question.
If India GalaxySL get gingerbread in July, will other countries' GalaxySL users get the updates too?
Or we can flash the firmware used in India in order to get gingerbread?

I bet europe will get the update before india...if the gingerbread was going to be released in a couple of months...we surely would have got a leaked beta firmware by now...

i9003 being a variant of the i9000 and released recently, I guess i9003 might be getting 2.3.4 as sammy started to work on it later than GB build for i9000.
I think one must ask on tweeter which GB version we will be getting...
