[Solved] Mms, "modified for your device" - myTouch 4G General

Unsure if this has been solved but for those experiencing the tiny thumbnail mms (myself included on the cm7 nightlies). To solve it, just go to settings, applications, manage applications, messages and clear data and from then on I haven't experienced any problems with receiving mms messages. I can now view pics in the original size it was sent....without that "modified for your device non sense". I'm unsure if this will work on other roms but I can confirm it works on cm7 nightly builds.

Sms timestamp Sense UI on rogers FIXED

I just wanted to let everyone know who uses a Rogers phone and has the timestamp issue (on Sense UI), before the applicated smsfixtimes in the market only fixed previously received messages and left the new ones still with the wrong timestamp.
it has been updated and now works!!! so you can finally read conversations normally in the messaging application on a Sense UI rom on the rogers network
Rogers time stamp
Specifically which ROM are you referring to?

I think he's saying that you install the "smsfixtimes" app from the market and it will fix it on any ROM.
I just installed it on the MyHero ROM. I'm using Chomp and all timestamps are working now. The auto configuration didn't work, I had to manually figure out how many hours to adjust the time.
In Chomp SMS the incoming time is correct. It works while Chomp is running or not. Notifications show right time, conversations list shows right time and long press message shows right time. Incoming and outgoing messages are all good.
Thanks!
no, he is saying that the smstimefix app was the old method of fixing ya times. but a new real fix is out. maybe rogers pushed a fix?

Pretty sure he is saying that the app has been updated and now works for the rogers phones.
Rogers already fixed the time stamp on their own rom... not sense ui ones.. since they don't have it.
Or we could just all test the app and see for ourselves
im saying that if you have a magic phone on the rogers network, the updated smsfixtimes finally fixes the issue of having messages with a timestamp of 4-5 hours earlier. the automatic setting doesnt work, you have to do it manually.
ive only had the timestamp issue with sense UI roms. myhero, hofo, etc.

I prefer and use Handcent SMS. A lot better than Chomp IMHO, and it shows the pretty facebook pictures!

I cannot get smsfixtimes to work for me. I unistalled it and reinstalled it as well to no avail. Messages are always coming in 5 hours earlier. Am I doing something wrong?

did you set the time to +5 instead of 'Automatic' ?
so this is good that it works, but it's not really fixed. is there a way to fix it properly? it doesn't work if messaging is open and it doesn't work in the notification text, like on the lock screen for example
what did rogers do to patch it in their update? Is there anyway that can be ported to a senseui rom?
You have to set it to 5+ when you first install smsfixtimes or it won't work at all.
IMO smsfixtimes is the PERMANENT fix.
thats bull****...smsfixtimes is a workaround/hack... it doesn't fix the notifications etc...
Rogers released an update that fixed the sms times (w/out smsfixtimes...)...fixes the notifications and everything...
What exactly did they change? ...

Rogers fixed the other timestamp problem where non - EST people across canada got thier messages in EST.. this timestamp is sense rom related so they wont fix it.. if you dont use these roms there is no problem to fix.. was waiting for rogers to get the official sense RUU like taiwan etc.. but not here yet
I understand that rogers wont fix it.... but there has to be a way to 'port' their fix over to a senseui rom.... the question is what 'exactly' changed between the original rom and the updated rogers rom...
Also, does anyone have dumps of the original rom AND the updated rom (I can only find the one with the timestamp issue.) I would like to poke around and see if I can do anything. (Although unlikely seeing as I haven't ever modded a rom...anyone have any good links for beginner rom development on a linux box?)

Problems with MMS

I can't get MMS to work at all. Can't send or receive with ANY app. I just says HiddenSenderAddress and fails to download when receiving and does NOTHING when trying to send them. The ones I receive that can't be opened if I try to delete them it crashes the app, no matter what app I'm using. So weird. I wish I knew what was wrong. I'm using Weapon G2x with Faux123 Kernel but I can't imagine that would have anything to do with it because no matter what messaging app it fails.
Anyone else having this or resolved this?
Did you just flash the rom and this happens, or have you used the rom for a while and this just started to happen, all of a sudden?

There were reports of problems with MMS using Weapons. He had a download for the Stock MMS to correct the problems.

Too answer both questions I've had it flashed about a month but didn't get any MMS in that time, just SMS. I did flash the stock MMS and still a no go.
Just use a different rom.

[Q] MMS issues with Jelly Bean

So after being a long time lurker I finally decided to post.
So after I flashed Sky-JB 7.4 I started to experience one major bug with the MMS. I can't seem to view images or mms if the data was not on at the original time the mms was sent. In ICS and other samsung based roms, if a mms was sent to me and my data was turn off, It would begin to download once I turned it on. But now on CM10, it just hangs there claiming to be downloading.
Now I have already searched this and this seems to be an issue but I wanted to know if this is something that other people are running into using a CM10 based rom.
I too turn data on and off per mms but have no problems with it. I'm on orthus. But I use handcent sms for my texting.

[Partially solved][Q] Couple of strange problems...

Hey guys I'm having a few issues with my phone and if anyone has had these problems before and have any fixes.
I'm running Cyanogen 2013-02-01 with stock kernel
1. I seem to be having problems with sending mms messages when over wifi. Now with this though, I can perfectly send them over 4g etc. If I happen to turn turn wifi ON I have to go into recovery and wipe the cache and dalvik cache before I can send a mms again over 4g, otherwise it might take a day or three to send the message.
2. Having strange thumbnail previews of pics as you can see in the pic. But this is also going on on my desktop after uploading the photos from say dropbox or anything. This doesnt happen to every photo but it's irritating because it will cover the view of the photo I may want to view.
pic url too: https://www.dropbox.com/s/u7trfxtf2zus4ir/2013-06-16 18.30.42.png
If anyone has any ideas or solutions aside from flashing (personal reasons about backing up) I would really appreciate the help.
Thanks!
Figured I would update the OP;
Partially Solved - The thumbnail icons was partially solved by doing quite a bit more digging and found that I should delete the thumbs.db file in the DCIM folder. I did that and only a few images were fixed. Also the MMS seems to be fixed as I believe it had probably been a bad flash because I did get the time to do my OCD backups and reflash/restore what I needed to so a fresh flash seemed to do the trick for now. Thanks for the info guys!
You cannot send mms over wifi. Mms will always be sent using data. Even if you are on wifi, data needs to be toggled and you will see the 4g icon appear as the message sends even while you're connected to a wifi network

That helps a bit, but I have data still toggled on and still doesn't send. :/

That's weird. Cm7 was always nice to me with Mms as long data was toggled. Have you checked apn settings?

Cyanogenmod uses its own custom messaging app. To restore mms over wifi, you need to flash the stock one. It should be available in the CM7 topic, maybe hellfire phoenix.

I haven't had any types problems regarding data/call/cell etc. So I didn't think of that. I'll double check them.

I should of also mentioned I use the Handcent app for messaging and such and never had this problem before. I remember back in old threads something about mms and wifi being a problem at one point but didnt think that would apply to CM by now. I'll go back and do some searching see if there is a fix.
maybe try the go sms app. and try checking the option for it to handle all your sms stuff. its the option you check if youve uninstalled your stock sms app. because it might just be a bug in the stock sms app.

Hangouts MMS Issue - Resolution?

I have read another thread on here with people having the issue of VERY delayed MMS using Hangouts. Just wondering if there is a definitive resolution to this yet, or if anyone even knows what the root cause is? I'm guessing its not the app in and of itself, otherwise one would think it would happen on every device.
Wonder if manually entering an APN would help.
Just looking for ideas...
I will say this. I tested using the stock Messaging app, and everything seems to work as quickly as expected. I love using Hangouts, but perhaps until a proper fix is found, I just need to use the native stock app
I'm also having SMS/MMS issues using hangouts with this phone, seems like even regular SMS messages sometimes take up to 5 minutes to send, and usually send 2 or 3 of the same message, and I'll receive duplicate messages back. It's strange, i had zero problems with hangouts on the previous HTC One using hangouts, hopefully an update or something fixes it.
I'm having no issues

Hmmm.. SMS works flawlessly, but if I try to send to multiple recipients or send a picture, it may take a good five minutes or more. And if you delete the picture, it just pops back up later.
Stock works fine, I just want it all in one
I have no problems with regular SMS with Hangouts. MMS is slow. Think every MMS I've received had to retry before I got it.
This happened when Hangouts was first released when using on the HTC One M7. We're probably going to have to wait for an update from Google before it's fixed.
