Target ad from Sunday shows Captivate with Froyo - Captivate General

Someone over on the AT&T forums is reporting that the Target ad from yesterday is showing Captivate on sale with 2.2 OS. I wonder if this is a mistake in the ad? I would love to be close to a Target store so I could have them fire one up to verify what is has installed.

I'd say it's a typo. Or, since these things are planned and printed so far in advance, a missed deadline (hahaha) for the update.

They listed the Fascinate correctly at 2.1, so until somebody walks into Target who knows.

typo confirmed
i called them yesterday after reading the ad
the mobility person said it was a typo and their captivates came with 2.1

I was checking out letstalk.com and their website says captivate with 2.2 froyo as well...

wtf? omg!!

Two errors at two different places combined with official Froyo leaked seems awfully suspicious to me.

Another mistake. I kind of find it sad that even target assumes we shoulda got our update by now.

I think this is exactly what is going on. I believe that Target and Let's Talk amongst others were told by the powers that be that they could expect to be selling Froyo-based Captivates by now and it just hasn't happened thanks to AT&T slowing things down in order to make sure they have all their bloat features in place.

Ya I have worked at target for several years over the summers while home and they are the last people I would trust for any electronic related information.

Could the Captivate be the first SGS to get Froyo?

Well, I ran across this little tibit in my relentless search for more information on the timeline for Froyo on this line...
Earlier, I posted a thread about another rumor I found on the net indicating AT&T & T-Mobile would get Froyo by mid-October. Reading between the lines of these two tibits, and considering the impending loss of exclusivity of the iPhone for AT&T, we might just get Froyo even before the I9000. I know, that doesn't make sense when you consider how many builds ahead the I9000 appears to be over Cappy, but who knows if that really is the case. Moreover, AT&T really needs this phone to work right as it is, at the present time, their best Android offering. Sure would be nice if this ends up being the case.

P.S. 5 minutes remaining on my download of Cog 2.2 Beta 4!!!
This is release in the UK how does that indicate that it will be around the same time in the US. There is no mention of US companies in that article.

NO! Vibrant JI6 is a 2.1 (confirmed in forum posts) - always has been. A version number for one phone means nothing to another phone. It is really just a date stamp.

Amen, we get it when we get it. No need to start rumors all over again.

T-Mobile/LG releasing G2X information in a Few Days (not another rumor thread)

check tmo news.com right now.....unable to post link!
LG has continued to stick to it’s message of working fast and furious to push out a T-Mobile G2x Gingerbread update that contains various bug fixes. The problem is right now their message is something along the lines of “we know you are frustrated and we’re understanding so we hope to have some information to tell you soon.” What’s soon? Is it two days or two weeks as it’s already been a month that the G2x has been gone from T-Mobile.com. The time to tell us something has come and gone, now we’re moving into impatience.
Tonight’s information shows that LG hopes to deliver some information about the update in the next few days but not necessarily the update itself. As you can see in the Tweet above there is no indication that the “next few days” means an actual software release. So G2x owners are stuck playing the waiting game yet again. While I understand that neither T-Mobile nor LG wants to give a target date and miss it, perhaps it’s better than not saying anything at all.
@theLGgirl
Maybe a light at the end of the tunnel? I won't hold my breath, but still...

That message does not sound good to me. I believe they are working hard on it but it almost sound as if there having some problems with it. Doesn't look good. Glad I have a bug free G2X because I don't think there fixing anything.

come on guys and or gals
they said its a strong focus and expeect news in a few days give them a breadk its not like its been 2 months already or something. you should believe them its not like they have been misleading you since prior to launch of the phone.
lg and tmobile are upstanding and wouldnt never lie about stock or anything.
oh hey by the way i have a great deal for the first lucky person to contact me.
i have this bridge i am selling real cheap. its not made by lg or on tmobile its a good deal.
While I love my g2x, I can honestly say that I have never seen such a high end phone get pulled so quickly. LG borked it bog time and now the consumers pay. So T-Mobile exchanges the phone for a lower specification phone and expects us to pay MORE money for the so called "upgrade" to the Sensation. Personally I am pissed how this has been handled!

Really? They stopped selling it. I have never seen that happen so quickly. Hell even the Evo, which should have been pulled was instead quickly upgraded by HTC. You are foolish if you think that T-Mobile just went out of stock.

A lot of the stores are selling them when they have been asked not to. Why? Stores have to meet sales metrics. If you have a new customer signing up and they want the G2x, would you really tell them no?

lol no stores have been "asked not to sell" g2x's.
I dont know where you guys get all this crazy info from.
I have not seen one official email telling myself, or any other store in my region to not sell G2X's. (although we havent been getting our stock replenished for about 3 weeks now. we still have 2-3 in stock, but due to the recent price hike no one is really interested in the phone)
Bro think logically here...if it was recalled and they continue to sell them, and someone with a buggy phone found that out and could prove it, don't you think T-Mobile would end up losing alot more money with all the legit lawsuits then they would eating the cost of the recalled and discontinued g2x? Once again it hasn't been recalled?

Hopefully by then, the SGS2 will be released on T-Mobile. This is ridiculous. They must have hired just one person PART-TIME working on this.

What ads? I dont see them
(I have the adservers added in my hosts file, it's far easier than complaining). I would normally show the ads for sites I support, but when they get to be too much, I can't deal with it. I had to sadly do same thing when Stack Overflow a while ago when they wouldn't do anything about the obviously targeted and over saturated Microsoft ads they had everywhere. It was so bad you could search for "gnu linux opensource" and it would still bomb you with microsoft bs.
Sometime after November 2012, I'll unblock them again . I would post the adserver names, but the powers that be might not like that. However, it's not hard to right click -> view source and find things.
I don't think xda controls their own adservers and thus, does not control the ad content (google/doubleclick ads and maybe some other, cant remember). That's slightly different than stack overflow, where they did control it, so one could say xda is slightly less at fault.

Or you could quit waiting on verizon and just put the signed OTA from verizon on yourself. It would take like a few minutes of finding the post in the developers forum and then a few more to flash it in the bootloader.
Being on xda and waiting for an ota from verizon when the same signed ota that would work for non rooted phones is on here = sad panda
there's no way a hour's worth of reading (if you really cant figure it out) is worse than hearing her complain
I offered to root it for her, but she didn't want me to. To each their own lol. Well, tbh, the 5-6 reboots per day, plus the extreme lagginess at times just really make her mad seeing as how she paid $250 for it and its her first android phone. I can understand her anger at it, especially since whenever we talk to Verizon they just throw up their hands and say they can't do anything about, thanks for your 250 bucks.

G2X, is it dead to the world?

I'd like to get the communities thoughts on this. It seems that to the app world the g2x won't get any support like it isn't relevant. Skype already added Sensation support for video calling, netflix we're still waiting motorola atrix has it, just got qik due to tmobile pressure (crap anyway). No google talk with video. most likely noone wants to put an app on this phone since tmobile continues to blame apps for the ****ty phones problems.
i refuse to do my rom for this phone because i cant determine if i caused a problem or the dirvers or the phone itself. its just not worth my time.
THan again they probably work with the phone developers to get these apps out and i would bet lg hasnt responded or done what is asked of them.

I know what you mean. I have pretty much had my fill of the g2x debacle. I have had both the Sensation and the G2X since June 8, but I have finally decided to sell my G2X on craigslist. There's just no reason for me to keep it at this point, it's become more of a liability than anything.
well it's because all the exaggerated negative posts on this forum when the g2x was released and then when people google g2x and read this forum the power of suggestion leads them to believe that "yeah, there is flaws with the g2x" then they in turn start posting BS about so called "problems" on other g2x forums and then it spread like wild fire, making ppl who never even tried the phone to conclude the phone is a bust.
All the slanderous, false and exaggerated remarks about the G2x in the first 3 months never gave it a chance to shine and show it's true potential.
But those that know better, this phone is a Beast and definitley a keeper.

I've had the G2X since the day it came out. The only real issue I've had with it is a random reboot once every couple of days.
I'm MUCH more troubled by the recent trend of app support by phone model. That's the LAST thing Android needs now and it's mostly driven by DRM concerns rathern than technical ones.

You can't be serious. Your saying that people are lying about their issues with the G2X? I had to purchase 5 G2X's to get a working one that didn't freeze or reboot a couple tines a day. If you want, I can show you my receipts for the returns so you don't think I'm a liar.
In my opinion, 1 out of 5 devices is not a good ratio. Was there people lying about problems they were having? Of course. There's trolls on every forum who don't own the device and just want to start giving other ones bad names. Are there people who have had multiple devices with the same exact problems. Yes, I'm one of them and there are people here who I trust who are reporting the same thing.

LG acknowledged the problems with the phone before it was ever released in the U.S. They could have salvaged the phone and their reputation if they reacted back in March when they became aware of the problems. Instead, things got so bad T-Mobile pulled the phone. I don't think they did that because of what they read on this forum. Even today, after nine months of coding, the best LG can do is a GB ROM with A Froyo kernel. That's what screwed up the phone, not "the power of suggestion." And with the likelihood of future LG ROM and driver updates being pretty much non-existent that will effect the devs working on the phone.
So all those lock ups, battery pulls and random crap was all in my head? Thank you so much for the clarity. I feel better now.

But your right. i have seen many phones get pulled from the carriers because of false accounts of user experiences... oh wait i have seen phones with just as many problems reported that were never pulled. so maybe that makes this one worse of all time?
jacob.. not sure if you work for tmobile or lg but it wont work sorry.
the phone has a bad rep for a good reason. and the same phone over seas had the same problmes 2 months before it was even released here. so you can thank LG for releasing a phone they already knew had big problems.
Glad you seemed to get one of the few early release phones that didnt have the problems. but just because you have 20 dollars in your pocket doesnt mean every does..get it... just becaue your phone worked doesnt mean everyone here is making something up. tmobile pulling the phone is all the proof needed.. if you can understand that than there is really no hope for you.

I'll agree with this post. At first getting 5 good in a row I thought those with issues were nuts..
Then I received 2 bad ones after that, getting it free on a new line.. Nothing new on the phone and it froze and rebooted like crazy, 2 in a row... Now I finally got a good one again no issues.. So I had 2 bad out of 8. 25% bad vs good here, but its true, there are defective ones for sure that can't be fixed no matter what you do..... So ya its true there are good ones and there are bad. You will know in the first 12 hours...
When you get a non defective one there awesome..

INFUSE no longer carried by ATT - shortest duration on record. IMHO still the best phone in active use (after 4000 mah battery upgrade, 2.3 upgrade etc)
Wow I hope this isn't true

I don't see why they would just drop a phone. How about a link for proof...
Umm....
I was at the store today and it was still being sold, and their website still sells the Infuse.
As long as the Captivate is sold, the Infuse will be sold for sure.

It is still for sale right now.
I don't know what makes you think they stopped carrying it. There is another thread that provides evidence that the Infuse is their best selling android phone.

i was like dam not even then HTC Status.
still being sold no word if its being dropped OP's topic needs changed
( i work part time at a att store and we have not seen anything on this)
When I went in yesterday my local store no longer had the Infuse. No display so I asked and he said they didn't have any and didn't believe they were getting any more.
With a ton of newer phones coming out it wouldn't surprise me if they took down the display.
They're just making room for the new phones. They will probably put a gutted shell on the wall of shame ($99 and under). It is sad that I'm already looking to upgrade to the Skyrocket less than 6 months after buying the Infuse, but it's become painfully obvious that AT&T blew their load on the Infuse's face and didn't call the next day. It's already outdated and they are in no longer rushing to get GB out. Which also means ICS will never happen. The Skyrocket will drop from $249 to $149 in a month or two. Woo hoo...afternoon delight!
It's history, removed from shelves throughout SE and other heavy markets. Excess stock went to distribution. As soon as refurbished stock is exhausted website avail will follow. If you want proof, wait a few days and call your contact at your fav att store.
Look, we've still got the best phone produced. It had to be pushed aside eventually - Samsung alone will introduce about 10 new phones before eoy
"call the cops and force change the topic? " lol. you libs are a hoot

What does "libs" have to do with anything?
Troll is trolling.

I guess this would kill all of "GB by the end year" talk? Dunno, never had a phone that wasn't being sold anymore.

yea, but it's a surprisingly easy phone to flash. you'll need clockwork, a root file mgr, a few files and you're off. putting all that stuff together for the first time may prove laborious, but then it goes okay. I'd suggest Serindipity
I got the latest leak on here now. Just saying that would likely put the nail in the development coffin if no official GB.

True... but why would there be a growing number of leaks if no official gb? They wouldn't waste time on it and release leaks to just never release a final.

Maybe two different players. Samsung is developing roms and in the meantime att decides to stop carrying. Purely speculation. I don't think they have a captivate on our store shelves but I think it is still online as well?
What people don't get is these could be authorized retailers. They're just stores that have permission to sell phones under the Att logo. If it doesn't sell well for them, goodbye. I worked at one for months.

I would guess a lot of people (on XDA, especially) understand the difference between a corporate store and an authorized retailer, but I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt.

That could be true. However, att stores will not replenish stock, and when the refurbs are gone from the att web store that's it.
