Access Motorola Software Update - Defy Android Development

I was wondering if there is a way to access the file that the update downloaded via the Motorola Software Update application.
Is it possible that I can store the downloaded sbf file? I just came to know that Defy has a 2.51 france sbf (maybe I didnt know it and it exists in this forum).
Can someone please help me on this?.
Cheers!
PS: Apparently all the previous 2.21 versions from France, Germany have also got the 2.51.1 update. It would be good to capture this file in the software for any warranty problems if we need to flash back to the original updated firmware. The problem of downgradability is also solved because all phones now officially run 2.51.1 which can be flashed back from any froyo firmwares.

OK. Guess no one wants to help or knows nothing about this.
I managed to find the downloaded sbf without updating my device.
I disconnected from the software update as soon as the file was downloaded and here it is
http://www.mediafire.com/?o4dckhi8bykidwm
JRDNEM_U3_2.51.1_BLUR_P3_SIGN_SIGNED_UCAJRDNEMARAB1B80AA030.0R_USAJORDANRTFR_P043_A010_HWp3_Service1FF.sbf
This is the 2.51 France version of Eclair. Since Defy came out of box for all those in europe with 2.21 france and they would be scared to lose their downgradability this solves the problem. Because Moto officially released this and the german version of 2.51 eclair now we can easily move to any froyo roms and come back to this in case there is a need to give it to service centre or claim warranty.
Download this and keep it safe. If nothing works and you are stuck while flashing other froyo sbfs then this sbf should get you at least to boot in eclair.

I hope not to use this sbf, since my Defy is currently out for the earpiece problem, but you never know. So I'll keep it, just in case something goes wrong.

Thanks You wouldn't happen to be able to download the german version and upload it later on? It would be good to know to have the official update as a backup...

Which rom are you using now?.

So did I, im guessing u bought sim free defy like me, so no OTA updates for u
u can do 2.21->2.51 update over pc (motorola update program)
thats how I updated it yesterday

Yes, i have a sim free. No OTA update (frozen eclair mod can be the cause?).
As soon as i have a windows pc available (i'm running linux on all my home computers) i'll try to update.
Thanks,

I'm actually running on 2.51.1.MB525.Retail.en.DE. (the german release of the ROM -> pre-installed on my Defy) Thanks to the apps and tweaks I installed, it is not a good base for a stocklike Backup
So, if I would have to send it in, a clean ROM would be nice.

nah, that aint the cause ..I had original 2.21 FR rom and it didnt find any updates on the phone ...I think if u buy sim free u dont get any OTA updates
I think im gonna flash to the new fin froyo deblured version soon, I really hate this blur stuff

For going back from Froyo, to Original Ecalir, you will need a boot rom too? If yes, maybe someone can upload a version of boot rom that is working with this original Eclair.

For all those asking about upgrading to 2.51.1 from 2.21. The OTA update is not possible because motorola is not known to sending most of its updates this way. Only if there is a froyo firmware, will it give it through OTA.
So all you have to do is download the motorola software updater from the site and just follow whatever it says. Its as simple as that.
If you dont want to install the firmware but just download it and keep it for further use like me, just in case you brick your device or if there is a warranty issue, then connect your phone as per instructions>the software will detect your phone and start downloading the 2.51 sbf file>go to C:\program files\motorola\software update\firmwares and then wait till the sbf is downloaded.
Once downloading is complete it will ask you if you are ready for update. Just click CANCEL. The update will not be pushed to your phone. Now go to the Firmwares folder I just showed and copy the sbf file. None of you should be worried about warranty because it is a company upgrade and this has nothing to do with voiding a warranty until you do not tamper your software or hardware.
This can be done for any software upgrades. Its safest and best way to get your hands on a company sbf file.

Before flashing i must do something like data wipe?
Sent from my MB525 using XDA App

Yes full wipe and then flash the sbf. Be sure though that you don't try to downgrade from 2.51 because then you brick your phone. And just search for more information. It's all on xda already!

Wow, could you provide some info on that (Distro, Wine version etc). I tried to get it running on Ubuntu Lucid but had no success.

Hi All,
I was wondering if there was anyone who upgraded to this 2.51 france. I forgot to make a nandroid and accidently flashed froyo poland version. Now i cannot downgrade to 2.51.
Fortunately I got the bootloader version for 2.51 but i need a nandroid backup of the rom.
Can someone please post a nandroid backup of this. Its not a hurry but if anyone can do it I will be grateful.
Thanks in advance.

You can flash a 3.4.2 sbf but then you loose the option to go back to stock rom. If you don't want that then you better get root accesss and flash a 2.2 nand backup from this site with clockworkmod recovery. Just search for all the necessary information.
Thanks agentsmith for the clear instructions. Im already rooted and ive installed clockworkmod recovery. Will flash 2.2 when im free, btw, whats the fastest 2.2 rom? Isit the uk 3.4.2?

[Expired] Moto Leak - O2 Germany {spf & nandroid available}

Hi All,
I'm using now latest leak - Asia Pacific. So I checked for the official update through Motorola Software update this evening, I noticesd that Operator changed from StarHub Singaphor "which I believe was due to the leak" to O2 Deutschland and a software check starts for the first time ever.
As you know last week Motorola Europe asked for 2 testers, so kindly Europe Users check more frequent using Software Update.
check the attachment.
Edit: After 30 minutes of checking for new software, it stated that there is no software update for my phone but I can restore it to the default status which I'm doing now.
Edit: ok, after 20 minutes restoring software, with several reboots & some stops in the bootloader, the phone starts again from the scratch with German language interface, lost my latest theme I was using.
lets see whats in:
- As I said, the phone starts with German (I think)
- back to the old launcher
- I noticed a new application called Xing, I never noticed that before & dont know if Silesh added that or not.
- kernal version: 2.6.32.9-gafbfc43
- Build number: SHOLS_U2_05.26.0
- Kernal & build number are the same the only change is in the Firmware configuration
- Lost root access (regain it after flashing VR.spf)
- If you remember on the screen lock, the rebons (unlock and/or sound on/off) when holding turned into red, this one don't
Edit: attached system menu
Edit: thanks to DummyPLUG - spf available in second post

as I'm following the discussions on Moto Europe - facebook, most likley this will be the final release..
Most of us agreed earlier that Moto Froyo release would not be different than Asia Pacific leak
Identical to APAC release
I tried installing a theme i created for APAC release and it went thru without any problems. So i guess no point in using this.
These Moto guys are really testing our patience. I dont know why they keep releasing test leaks if they don't have anything more to offer. 3 test releases now and not one thing different in the three.
Moto, release the final version and move forward. Atleast, users need not wait in hope.

[ROM] Official Froyo 2.2.1 - Retail Brasil - Rooted & Overclocked Nandroid available
Official Froyo 2.2.1 Update for Milestone - Retail BrazilYou need to flash the stock 2.1 ROM and use Motorola Software Update to get your phone updated to Froyo ( 2.2.1 ). If you are already running 2.1, just use MSU to update and retain your apps. If you are running a custom rom and want to get back to stock, please look at this thread for more information.
Official 2.1 Retail Brazil sbf's can be downloaded from the links below.

You can update your phone after flashing the 2.1 sbf file by downloading the MSU. You can use this link to download the Motorola Software Updater.
Vulnerable recovery sbf and kernel from this ROM as a flashable zip file are attached. Nandroid back of this ROM, rooted and overclocked can be found here.
Many thanks to Sileshn and rasstaylor for their help. Credits to blogdoandroid.com for the information.
The wait is over. The moment that many were waiting, arrived. Motorola has finally released an Android 2.2 Froyo for Milestone, fulfilling his promise. Were 8 months of delay over the Droid, the American model of Milestone, but who was counting right? We were.
The wait continues for those who bought with operator (TIM, VIVO, CLARO, OI)
We were surprised with some cosmetic changes, you can check out the following photos below. The lock screen, Screen Lock, was redesigned, becoming different from the original Froyo Google as well as the Launcher (the screen that shows icons for apps. She was like the Eclair (Android 2.1). It is speculated that this was done to improve performance.
In addition to traditional apps already installed on the Milestone, a Facebook app was included. Motorola has certainly gained a quick buck to get it.
Another interesting accretion was a mini app to access the chip carrier, in my case of HI. Previously there was only app SIM Tool Kit, which has now been renamed to World HI. Besides this, has added another app, which is nothing more than two links to web pages of the operator, plus a link to the SIM Tool Kit SIM Tool Kit, or STK is very important for users of the HI, because allows us to check the credit balance.

[Q] [HELP] looking to root gingerbread

Ok,
So i recently upgraded to the newest gingerbread release (4.5.588.MB810.Verizon.en.US) It has since been rooted but I am not quite sure how to go about getting it rooted. Do I need to SBF back to a lower firmware and go back up or is there an easier way? I have a bootloader version 30.04 so im not quite sure which SBF i need to be using so that I dont brick my phone. If you guys could include links to what I need to be using that would be great.
I really appreciate all of your time.
Thanks,
mmaibl2011
Yes you need to be on the latest Froyo firmware which 2.3.340 so you have to SBF . Just go to My Droid World and search for Gingerbread 2.3.3 and you see lots of threads which give you a complete break down of how to do it .

No more 3.2???

I got my transformer from amazon.de with DE 3.1 on it. After I logged into my wifi I got an update message. I chose to install and got DE 3.2 ROM.
After some playing around with different custom ROMs I wanted to undo my changes and "re-stockify" my tab. Installation of the original stock DE 3.1 ROM from ASUS' website went fine and I got my tab like it was before.
But now as I try to update to 3.2 manually via settings menu I get the message I already had the latest software version... :-(
Tried the same with ASUS' stock US and WW ROM. Always the same, no update! Frustrating!
Any suggestions??? Please!!!
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
There is a 3.2 stock rom thread in the developer section, that might help you.
Thx but this won't solve my problem. ROM seems not to be stock or not verified by ASUS otherwise it would upgrade. Wouldn't it?
I just want a way to COMPLETELY bring my tab back to the state it was when I got it...
Any more ideas guys?
Maybe the versions from ASUS' website simply get their update later than the ones with their shipped firmware installed!?!? *confused*
