Phone shutting down by itself. - HTC Inspire 4G

I haven't rooted or anything like that. I have just downloaded apps. But last night my phone started shutting itself off randomly. It has done it multiple times today. What could This be? Help me please.

Now my phone won't power on. It is stuck on the HTC screen when booting up.

Get it exchanged.

I returned for the same issue and the new one is fine.

Bad unit, exchange it for sure

Good news. I got it exchanged. But good thing a friend of mine works at AT&T because I accidentally ripped the volume button off when I was opening the battery door. Make sure you don't try to open it without looking.

The card that the sim card is attached to out of the box can be used to open the battery door. It slides in at the volume rocker and can be flexed enough to pop the battery cover off very easily.

I think he is taking about the phone shutting down on its own or not powering on. Not the battery door.

But I haven't heard of others having problems like I did. I searched high and low to find out what was wrong with my phone but couldn't find anyone experiencing similar problems.

Bottom corner of screen presses down...

I was wondering if anyone of you have experienced this issue. If I press down on the screen right under the search icon in the lower right corner, the glass ever so slightly, very softly presses down. Almost as if the glue is soft or there is nothing hard there. Also I get the screen discoloration that happens when you do that to an lcd screen.
I have read online that others have this issue and even the demo units at the att stores do it as well. Keep in mind that there is no light bleeding through and the glass is not raised just presses down.
What do you all think?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I noticed this on my aria. Its how I got it upgraded to the inspire. These screens are attached with a thin layer of double sided adhesive. Think of it as ultra thin 3m tape. I think it might actually keep the screen from breaking under light stress. I would keep an eye on it and if it gets worse maybe call HTC for repair.
Never had any issue with the digitizer because of it tho.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Thanks for the reply. Not sure how it makes me feel though. I don't think I'll return it just yet.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Mine does the same in the bottom. I've also noticed not all 4 corners are equally flush with the black ring that goes around the screen. O well, small thing really. Phone is so amazing.
Yeah I love this phone. I swapped it out and now everything is good. The only thing though is that out of the 3 they pulled out, 2 had dirt under the screen. That tells me we might need to figure something to fortify the screen better.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
That bugs the hell out of me! I wish i would have saw that before my return period expired
Your phone has a 1 year warranty tho. So if it gets worse you can at least have it repaired. I would really suggest getting it fixed because that creates a paper trail.

mine does this too. I guess I'm heading to the AT&T store.

I tried to swap mine out within my 30 day period, and the sales guy told me he couldn't give me a new inspire (because the demo model and his personal one had the same issue) but would let me get an atrix. I still have my inspire, funky screen and all!
Mine does the same thing. I wonder if all of them do it? did the one you swapped for do it too?
Also when I went in and talked to the radio shack guy he told me that if I put something heavy on it overnight it would reattach to the double stick tape if I didnt want to return it. Also can your return a phone with this issue rooted and s-off? or do you need to go through the process of returning to stock?
I would take it back stock. It seems to be an issue that doesn't affect the phone. Only thing that sucks is returning it to find out the replacement is worst or better yet, get one with dust under the screen. Also it seems to be at the corner of the screen where you normally wouldn't press on the screen.

I had no problem trading mine in at all. My new one is much better. Well, actually it has no problems at all. My screen was making an audible clicking when I pressed it down. I just don't touch that section of the screen at all cause I am afraid to hear it again.
My screen is okay. I guess this problem is there for most devices with LCD touch screens. To make it slim/light/cheap the screen rests on a really thin platform I feel.
On a off topic : -This happened with my iPod. I went to the "genius" bar and that guy brought 10 different iPods out and showed me by pressing the bottom right part of the screen that this is "common" .... I had no better argument then.

Vibrate is getting progressively WEAK

Hey guys. This phone has been great, but now I've just started noticing this problem. The vibrate is getting progressively weaker. You can even "hear"/notice it when, let's say, the phone is ringing, the vibrate will sort of "level" down.
I downloaded an app to test vibration, and it seems to be random and getting weaker. Also, when the phone rings, sometimes, while vibrating it will "hiccup".
What is causing this? Battery? My phone is perfect except this. I REALLY don't want to go back to stock and have to return the phone.
What rom. And kernel are you using? I thought I was having the same problem but it was because I was undervolting

Absolutely no undervolting here; I can tell you that with 100% certainty. I'm using CM7 with default kernel.
At one point I DID mess with the LordMod kernel and install a UV script, but after that I didn't like it (it wasn't smooth as CM7 kernel default), so I did a nandroid restore to an earlier point when I wasn't using it, so I assume the entire system including kernel included was restored.
Yeah your kernel was restored too. Hold the volume down button for 3 seconds. How weak does it feel?
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
It vibrates, albeit weakly, and vibrates sort of "rough". It even skips while vibrating. Sounds like it's missing (sort of like when a car engine misfires) .
how do you take vibrate off in all settings I thought I did but when I answer the phone it will vibrate and when I use the calculator
Maybe it needs a tune-up?

It's getting more ridiculous. It sputters like a car that has bad spark plugs (analogy).
I contacted AT&T and they are shipping me a replacement. I will report when I get it.
I had a similar problem with my Atrix except it was the keyboard and haptic feedback that was completely giving out. I hope my Inspire doesn't start acting up, I got it off Craigslist not at&t
Sounds like hardware. I.e , the the little motor that spins the little off-center weight that results in the vibration might be going bad :-(. Hope I'm wrong.

I tried this on my lock screen and it worked.

Try it at own risk, I am not responsible for any problems. It worked for me
This is my second sensation with the same issue. I got my second sensation approximately 6 days ago, after my first sensation developed the lock screen issues. Well today I started to experience the same lock screen issues that plagued my first sensation. Well I did a little checking around and I think I might have found a solution to the problem. I have an app installed called mybackup pro. I have been using this app for a while and it has come in real handy in restoring my phone. There is a free version available in the market. I used the paid version. I opened mybackup pro, and I just like to say that I DON'T HAVE anything to do with the app in regards to any monetary gain, basically I just use the app. I opened the ap, i clicked on cancel for the password, clicked on back up, data, local (/mnt/sdcard) check all, and let it back up all the settings. Well I went into my settings/applications/manageapplications/all. i then clicked on the first htc sense tab and cleared the data. You will be prompted with something to the pop up stating that all the applications data will be permanently deleted. I clicked ok and then clicked on the second htc sense tab and did the same thing. You will notice that all your widgets and everything will be deleted from your phone. I rebooted my phone and then opened mybackup pro and clicked on restore, data, local (/mnt/sdcard), data and the most resent date, I ONLY CHECKED MARKED SYSTEM SETTINGS, ANDROID HOME, AND CLICKED ON OK. Let it do its thing and when it is finished it will ask you to reboot your phone. Your phone should be extremely close to the way you had it before (widget wise). And in my case my lock screen is working again. I hope this helps anyone else. Again, It worked for me.

I don't even understand what the issue was meant to be in the first place!!
Sorry for the long entry but i was trying to be as specific as i possibly could for everyone, and yes my lock screen responds perfectly.
This post was meant for anyone experiencing lockscreen unresponsiveness on their phones.

I already tried clearing the data from both Sense applications and then rebooted my phone. I didn't make a back up of everything so Sense was back to the way it came from the factory. Long story short. It didn't work for me. I still had the lock screen issue.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
also another trick to faulty lockscreen found on another post, when the phone lay flat on table lock seems to be trouble to unlock unless u pick the phone up in ur hands...but if u have it laying on table flat and grab left side of lock and drag it to the left and the up it works everytime for me...seems the left part of the lockscreen is always ok lol (something to do with phone being grounded)
Ok, the only difference is that I restored my settings using mybackup pro. Could that have been the difference.

I think the way the app and ring move together is what causes the lock issue. I think its just the physics of the ring/app moving together causing the issue. Thats my guess. Other than the lockscreen buggy I have no touch screen issues. YOU?

Yup, I think I agree with that. There are some issues that just don't make any sense though. Why does it become responsive after touching the ring two to three times. It will stay responsive like it should until you turn the display off. I just can't wrap my finger around it.

Probably is. I seriously don't know why everyone praises HTC. They are going in the wrong direction with Sense. Instead of making it less intrusive, there making it more intrusive with SENSELESS eye candy. HTC needs to take a page out of Samsung's book in my opinion. There making there UI (Touch Wiz) less intrusive but still keeping the features that make Android better.
Sorry to say but this 3D eye candy isn't making anything better and it's quite obvious HTC half assed Sense 3.0.

I don't know if this works for you guys .. but I had that lockscreen issue as well. I noticed that when I play with my wifes phone its perfectly smooth and unlocks with a single swipe. And she can unlock mine easily and never been a problem. The only thing difference is that she didn't take off that screen protector. I have oily skin type so I guess it must be my finger getting sticky. Went to tmobile and got a screen protector and it solves all the problem. Sounds silly but it worked for me and I haven't had a single lockscreen issue in four days as opposed to 4 out of five times before. Hope this helps ..

Had phone for one week, no longer recognizing fast swipes.

For the first week, I could do a fast swipe across my home screen to get it spinning. Worked 100% of the time. As of yesterday, it literally no longer recognizes these swipes. It won't move at all, or sometimes it will think I clicked on an app instead of swiping.
Same thing applies to the lock screen. I have to slowly bring up the ring to unlock. Extremely irritating.
What saddens me is this happened on my first phone as well after about a week (exchanged that phone because of dust). Looks like it wasn't just that phone.

Seems like a grounding issue, but we don't exactly know what's causing the problem. It works sometimes, doesn't work others.
This really sucks. Just the other day I could get it to spin with one swipe. It's impossible to do with any amount of swipes now.
I have to double swipe to get it to work. I have to kill all the running processes in the quick settings first.

Agree, not just useless but a waste of time if you trigger it accidentally. Sense REALLY needs a "performance" setting that disables all the animation crap, like Windows has. That sliding home screen after unlocking is also really silly. I want snap, not spins and gradual fades. If they want to make everyone happy they need to maximize customization.

Yes we all agree that the effect itself is not important. But it shows the responsiveness of the touchscreen. If you cant get it to spin, your phone feels like ass when you swipe things.Well hell not just swiping, anything touch related. I removed my sim card, battery and SD card to take it back and exchange it and all of a sudden it started working great. Has been flawless for the past few days, real happy! until today.. I left it on the roof of my car and it hit the road at about 55 and got ran over multiple times. I couldn't find it when i went back to try and save my sim for the trusty N1 but my Bluetooth earpiece came on when in the vicinity and i actually got a phone call when i was waiting to cross the road to pick up the carcass. Had to use the BT though unlocking on the screen would slice your fingers open. So now i'm back to a non responsive touchscreen! DAMMIT! I finished it off prying it open to get the sim, battery and SD card out. Asurion replacement to be here Friday.
I had the same problem after three weeks of the touch screen working perfectly. I followed the instructions in the touch screen issues thread and it fixed it!. I didn't even wait an hour like it said. Turn off your phone, take the battery out, put the back cover back on, hold the pet button for like 15 seconds then Open it up and put the battery back in and turn it on. Worked for me!

[FIX] Random reboots/shutdowns. Pictures added!

So since this issue has been giving me quite a bit of frustration, I have devised a very simple fix that should work for at least a few other people. There was a post in the ARHD thread where it suggested cleaning the connectors and the battery. I was pulling out my battery to give this a try when I realized the battery could be pushed slightly farther down into the housing, allowing for a more solid connection.
What I did was wedge a small piece of business card between the top of the battery housing and the battery itself. This has worked very well for me so far. If anyone else would like to try this and either confirm or deny that it is working for them that would be great.
As requested, pictures have been attached. One shows the items you need, another shows where I placed it against the battery and the other shows it sitting flush in the battery housing. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I found pulling the ground pin out a bit helps, the one that makes contact with the battery cover and can cause touchscreen issues.
I thought the random reboots/shutdowns were a software problem. Because after I flashed this a fix a found the issue stopped. Kinda...

I've tried a lot of the fixed, including underclocking to 1ghz and varying ghz between 1 and 1.5. But this has worked for me, figures I would share. But a lot of phones are different...so what works for me might not work for others. Just thought I would share what worked for me! Plus I think its worth a shot, don't see how it could hurt anything. But this is xda, so at your own risk and all that other stuff.

Glad it worked for you!
Good to know it also works with the anker batteries.
