[MOD UPDATED 07/10]JACHero 2.5 WITHOUT Rosie/Sense

Hey guys,
I modded JAC's Hero ROM to work without rosie/htc sense. Before you ask: This is for those people who are not into the new user interface, but want the better browser with flash support. I did some other changes as well.
Here is what I changed:
-removed Rosie and it's widgets
-removed HTC Twitter
-removed HTC Stocks
-removed HTC Weather
-added launcher.apk
-changed hardware keyboard layout to qwertz (german)
This build is by far more usable than with rosie, as it doesn't suffer the known lags.
Using swapper is not necessary.

maarvellous. just what i'm looking for. going to take an age to download though for some reason
can i assume that all the facebook and album stuff is still there?

i bloody love this. admittedly i've only had it going for about 20 mins but it is super fast. and not super fast like the normal hero roms are (as in not very fast) but proper fast. the htc apps seem instant to me. I haven't finished trying them all but i have noticed that Stocks does not work.
I denied and uninstalled swapper when it first started up as it doesn't seem to be needed for this build (and I've already broken one card), i haven't actually put apps2sd yet and have 34mb available

Ive removed rosie from jac and drizzys hero but i still have the same problem on both......
So just wana know if someone has tested and confirmed sms/mms is working, thanks.

No idea. It's late here so i havent received one but i would have thought that if you'd already tried a build with rosie removed then this would be the same. Unless somehow memory shortage is causing the sms issue.

Better browse? The Flash hardly seems worth it. Besides the visual bookmarking, I'd say the old browser is better. I get some serious lag with this browser. I wish there was a way to disable the flash in settings. I don't need flash banner ads

Its got the htc browser from the more recent builds. Haven't tried flash yet but it fires up straight away which I wasn't always getting on the rosie builds

I agree about the flash, and you can disable javascript in settings, but i think the hero browser is slightly faster than the old one. And visual bookmarks is a plus.....
and yea i think the memory issue is def the main factor behind the problem...

Download and unzip JAChero rom and pull it from there and copy them to the root of your sdcard and install them using astro file manager.

there not on this rom coz they need rosie, and rosie is removed from this rom

Does this still require the new SPL or is the removal of Rosie enough to free up space for older SPL ?

Finally some smart people listening to me.. not saying that yall others arent smart! but u know what i mean, i havent used 2.3.3 im still using 2.2.1 without rosie, what is the real difference im trying to make a decision to flash as of now but... if its not broke dont fix it aye?! Also my texting has always wworked i recieve every text EVERY text but the times sometime are a little they text me in like the future and sometimes they text me in the past i cant explain it its weird. and YES, we still have facebook integration twitter everything.. its pretty sexy if u ask me with only 3 pages which is all u need and u still have the black bar. this is the best rom ive ever had ever havent changed since wow. no lag mines runs like ion plus, haha i got 27mb of internal storage without partition... wow this is crazy and everything is here. I RECOMMEND THIS FOR ANYONE WHO LIKES SPEED AND STABILITY... So how do you revert the Qwerty back to english with the supplied .bat file. Und wieso must es eigentlich Deutch sein? Ich mags viel lieber auf English. I also dont understand the whole Sense UI thing.....sure it looks great but I also dont care for it. I just want the integrated Facebook and other good usefull apps. And if anyone is still having any kind of SMS issue then please say something cause I just prefer not to flash and take my chances. [ROM][7-14-2009]PhotonMod_Hero (v1.5) [Ready For Daily Use]

Ok, I've been trying out a lot of Hero ROMS and I'm always disappointed in the speed, or lack thereof. Each time I have found myself flashing back to a stable Hero build and then customizing it to my liking (see below). This release is mainly for my own sanity, to save myself the time and effort of getting back to a setup I prefer.
For clarification purposes, I will be referring to these builds as PhotonMod_Hero1 and PhotonMod_Hero1.5
Just understand that v1 is based on LeakDroid's SuperHero3 build and v1.5 is based on JACHero 2.63.
**UPDATE 7/15/09**
As requested, Re-upped PhotonMod_Hero v1 without the Asian IME (pinyinIME.apk). Just be sure to choose English on the first screen of the setup wizard.

NOTE: If you have random Asian characters showing up in odd places, power off the phone and turn it back on. This seems to only happen before the first reboot.
(Reminder, this one does not use AppsToSD. It is basically SuperHeroV3-MAS minus Rosie and all HTC widgets. Also minus swap. and with a few other teaks.)

-Replaced HTCCamera with one that works (No sideways image)
-Replaced HtcMusic with old Music app from non-Hero builds (b/c that one is a resource hog!)
-Replaced Rosie with standard Launcher
-Removed Teeter.apk/odex, Stocks.apk/odex, DCS_Stocks.apk/odex
-Removed (commented) Swap partition section in a2sd.sh as I want to try this build out without a Swap partition.
-Added section in a2sd.sh to move a "wallpaper" folder to the FAT32 partition on your SD. That folder contains the wallpapers from the Rosie wallpaper gallery (See Below)
-Added AppsInstaller
-Added Custom Lock Screen
-Added a few "Gems" to the Ringtones/Notifications
To use AppsToSD, make sure you have your SD card setup with Fat32/Ext3 partitions. You will not need a third Linux-Swap partion with this build.
To use new Wallpapers, at the Home screen, press Menu -> Wallpaper. Then choose Albums. You should see a wallpaper folder containing 5 wallpapers.

Rename to update.zip and flash as usual.

Why in the world do you need pics...its hero, duh.

Here you see I have changed the background to one I liked from another build. I also have installed the Retro Clock widget, Weather Channel widget, and a few apps (AndroZip, Last.fm, and I really can't remember which else). Right now I currently have about 10MB free (not running apps from SD)

I don't see the bluetooth is working? What do you mean "fully functional"? is the led work, too !?

Ok, I just tried Bluetooth for the first time and it does not turn on. This was my mistake. I do not use it and did not ever try it. I may grab JACHero latest build and mod it the same way (if bluetooth does work in that build) if anyone really wants it. Personally, I never needed it.
As for the LED, as with most Hero builds currently out, the LED does not work. If someone can point to one that does, let me know.

This is true, but every time I try to use Rosie I definitely do NOT have a fully functional phone.
I suppose I should say Fully Usable (once I get BT working anyway)

Is the notification sms on the icon ? i mean when you receive one sms it puts a 1 in the icon, is it ?

Well why would he say fully functional when indeed it isnt? and 2.63 is slow for you because your using swapper. Your supposed to make a linux swap partition and have a fat 32/ext2/3 and linux swap. 2.63 is the fastest and most reliable rom that has been made so far And well this is the rom i will stay with. I dont need bluetooth because well i dont use it kinda want LED's Though But besides that.

and I can't say I've notice that on other builds I've tried. Is there somewhere you've see that? It may be part of the new MMS app (which many people are having reliability issues / not getting messages)

I have updated my original post that BT is not working. As for speed of JACHero 2.63, I'll give it a whirl now that I can easily get back to this ROM.
But I've heard "Really Fast" about a lot of ROMS running Rosie/SensUI, and have not yet been convinced by any of those claims.

I don't know why everyone keeps asking for videos because unless there is a huge graphical difference (ie themes or change in the likescreen, statusbar, rosie, etc) then it's going to be the same as any other Hero rom out there.
In regards to speed and stability, that's mostly up to you the user. You configure the user.conf to your liking and use whatever apps you want. The more apps you have installed and more widgets you have on your screen the slower and more unstable your phone is. Also the speed of your sdcard could have a factor in it as well. Other factors could be included as well but the bottom line is that most Hero roms are identical to eachother and pretty much work the same way. Any obvious differences that are easily noticed visually is mostly themed.
I say backup what you have with nandroid/bart/switchrom/whatever and try it. Coming from JacHeroSki2.2, I'm noticing that this hasn't given me a single reboot and seems much more stable. But it's pointless to make a video of it because it looks the same. But... if someone would like to indulge us in a video of an MLIGN rom (which will be obsolete after every update by the way) than go for it! It's just my opinion that it's a waste of time.

The reason why i do videos is to show the improvements from the previous ROM.. Other people can then compare then if one of my ROMs suck and its BC of APK editing then i know to not use them.. I'm just trying to show them what is in store for them when i release it.

I hope not. Ive seen nothing good come of the ram hack on G1's. The phone is only meant to use a set amount of ram, and all it does it become extremely unstable when added. My experience with the ram hack i get nothing but reoots from phone going to sleep and even just sitting the home button.

Right on... I've noticed this as well.
Btw, can anyone post the default wallpaper (green leaves), or tell me what file the wallpapers are located in? I didn't see a Launcher.apk...
Edit: Also @MLIGN, will v2.5.7 have LED support? Not sure if you were planning on integrating the build.prop from Maxisma or not... AFAIK, there're no LEDs on v2.5.5, right?

well i think he was talking abt recording a video abt his new rom that has the 10mb ram hack in his last thread but idk if this one has it. we have to wait till he releases it n the changelog to see.......

hmmm i got a problem.. i dont get missed call notification on 2.5.5
...Never mind it works now.. it wasnt last night.

And to whoever was askin about the LED's they do work just download the missed call app.

On the next and upcoming versions, could you change the gmail icon? It would be easier for those of us who use two email addresses. In my case, I like to glance at the notification bar to see if I have gmail email aka my business email, but now I can't tell because the HTC mail and gmail notification icons are the same. Thanks bud.
P.S Correct me if I'm wrong, but it was you who posted the twitpic with the purple/jester rosie, right?

Wrong 2.5.5 has fully working LED notifications and no more heroLED.
Any1 else get fc with touch input I get it way too often and track ball is kinda weird jumps around way too much.

Reset ur settings in th browser and format swapper if u useing u should feel a big difference.

Ya, this info bar launcher is rili fantastic. Rili hope some experts cn develop this and we might be willing to be the beta testers..

This is the launcher of my dreams! Me wantz it!!!
We need a vertical scrolling launcher like this which isn't a WP7 clone, since too much space gets wasted in WP7.
I don't know why all launcher developers are fascinated by horizontal scrolling launchers. I guess because iPhone does it that way. What's more natural is vertical continuos scrolling page with apps and widgets, just like on this launcher.

I was able to get a white one and it arrived yesterday.
Couldn't find usb device driver for it to get a system dump.... adb says -- device not found....
It cannot be activated in US even though it supports both CDMA (800MHz) and GSM.

Finally found the driver on Sharp's Japanese website... stay tuned

It is created with the following procedures:
1. adb pull /system
2. compressed with 7zip.
I can also help with porting the UI if required. I am familiar with Linux system and Java.

I tried to activate on sprint and tmobile....no luck.
it would work on tmobile if the phone were unlocked, which it isn't.
i have been using it on wifi for a day and wow, the UI is really great.
there was a system dump on a few post back and someone tried to look at it, but with no luck I guess.
how do we get devs to look at this??

[REQ] HTC_IME mod for AOSP on qHD devices

I would love to offer any help I can to make this mod a reality. So far, I have gathered the following links that will surely be helpful in making this mod.
There are many users on the different individual rom threads, especially in senseless and aosp/cm9 roms, who are requesting to install HTC_IME (Touch Input), as it is the best input option around for some languages. I can attest firsthand to the fact that the Chinese handwriting input is by far the best handwriting input available for android (HTC is a Taiwanese company), so please don't suggest that everyone who wants htc_ime just go and download some other keyboard. They really did a good job with it, and people want to use it on AOSP!
The work done so far:
Jonas made the mod for gingerbread and devices with lower resolution screens. There is a lot of information about it here and links to downloads. It works on non-htc android devices.

This is a HTC_CIME mod for qvga screens. You can see in the screens that it works on MIUI and with multi-language support. This seems like a very good lead, as it may possibly work on our device if scaled up!

And finally, from our very own device theme forum, there is of course the package done by MichaelM. I think this is going to be our best shot at getting this working in aosp roms. I triead flashing the file "with libs" (should include multi-lang) on Vorbeth's rom, but it just continuously FCs with u select touch input (but touch input does show up!).

As I said, I am willing to learn as much as I need to to help make this mod, I just need someone with a bit more experience than me to offer some help! Can someone please give even a brief overview of how to do this. Do we need to run logcats to find out lib dependencies? I'm sure the whole process can't be all that difficult (well, one can hope!).

2 things, 1, I would love to see this mod happen, I've gotten used to the ics keyboard but would still love the HTC one. 2, if possible, the latest HTC_IME keyboard would be best in my opinion because I love the swipe gestures that you can turn on and off without actually using the Swype keyboard because the Swype keyboard isn't something I am entirely fond of anymore

I would love to see that... I am starting to like CM9, but the keyboard just isn't good enough no matter which one I try... I will try gimpsta.com to create one and hopefully will have it working

BUMP! I really wanna see this happen too! But maybe we are looking at it from the wrong angle? I'm no dev, not in the slightest, but the HTC_IME that comes on the stock sensation is already qHD formatted. Would it be possible/easier to port jonasl's mods to the newer HTC_IME rather than trying to scale up the old one and fix it to run on ICS?
