[Q] Help! Captivate w/no launcher and no usb debugging - Captivate General

First off: I'm an idiot. Ok, that's out of the way.
I rooted my Captivate, and installed Root uninstaller. Since I had been using ADW for a long time, I figured I didn't need twlauncher, and uninstalled it. First mistake. After doing this, I received a ton of Force Closes constantly for the process android.process.acore. Don't know what that is, but it sounds bad.
So... I figured I'd reset everything to the way it was. I backed up everything with Titanium Backup, and then did a factory reset. Second mistake.
Now, I still have no twlauncher, and I'm without ADW. No launcher, and no way to enable USB Debugging (that I can tell).
The phone boots up to a black screen. The Menu, Home, and Search buttons do nothing. All I can do is bring down the notification bar, and get to the phone dial pad through the emergency call button on the lock screen.
Please help. What are my options here?

Go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
And follow Step 1. Odin is in the 'Downloads' section just above.

it doesn't bring up option to use ADW if you hit the home key? Try bringing up your dialer then hitting home key.
Either way sounds like you are going to need to ODIN your way back to stock and start over (the link from the 2nd post)
Can you still get to the recovery menu? Either via the 3button method or the advanced power menu? (when you have the phone "booted" and you hold down the power button does it bring up your power menu and if so what options does it give you?)

it almost sounds as if you deleted part of the framework vs. just the launcher app.

For future reference, keep a copy or two of your favorite ROMS on your internal SD for cases like this. That way you can boot into recovery and just reflash your current ROM. That saves you from having to flash back to stock and have to see what Samsung and ATT made so poorly!

I am getting frustrated:/

3 days back i noticed that no matter how many times i press the power button on my HTC Touch Pro(Vodafone) the back light wont go off.If i keep on pressing it a power off message would appear asking me should i switch off my phone.By changing the power settings i had set it to Turn off the backlight after 30 secs(If not used).Which helped but the problem remains the same, after the backlight goes off it wont come back no matter how many times i press the power button:/.
It would only come back by sliding the Qwerty,as a result the Phone despite of the fact being turned off is using power and my phone dies off after 3 hours or so:S.I tried resetting it by Clearing the Storage(7 times) but it didn't help. After i which i opted to Hard reset it by holding down the Vol & Enter button and then pressing the rest using Stylus, but no matter how many times i try it the stupid Vodafone startup screen would appear and it would not(Tried it when the phone was on).the phone simply wont shut down,i tried by pulling off the batter, but once the battery is in it would start all by itself:/(In this way i cant hard reset the phone while it is off:/:/).How can i hard reset it??Somebody please help me!!!!
P.S:I have unlocked the phone so that i can use it in here.
Sounds really weird... maybe you can try executing task29 and flash a new rom....
but I'm not sure...

Do you mean HardSPL? You could try flashing a stock ROM to the device after putting it in bootloader (hold volume down and press reset, keep holding volume down until you get the tricolour screen).
This thread should really be in the 'General' section...
@Ben
Sorry mate i am a new user of this forum so didn't knew in which section should i place this thread, apologies for that.
From where would i find a stock ROM and how would i flash it(Procedure in detail)? And after flashing this stock ROM would i be able to restore everything using Sprite backup?
Thanks in advance!!
Follow this guide if it's your first time, and as long as you've already backed your data up (which you should have if you were doing a hard reset anyway) then you should be fine with Sprite.

Go to the HTC website and download an original ROM from their support page.
Oh and when flashing back to stock, make sure you flash stock rom/radio first, before you remove HardSPL (see guide one post above)

Unfortunately the ROM available on HTC's(3.27.4.3) website is not supported by my phone(The text field after verifying my S/N number prompted that the ROM is not suitable for my phone). What should i do now?Shall i take the risk and give it a go??My only concern is that i don't want to end up with a locked phone after a ROM flash:/
P.S:Apologies for bad grammar.
My phone is Vodafone HTC Touch Pro GSM(Unlocked)
just give it a go. and flash it. you cant really even brick these phones. so your not losing anything. even flash a rom without the sprite backup built in. you can always get the cab
Download rom from sunnysoft, there's no Serial number check in there.

I doubt it as he can still power off by holding the button down. Sounds like a software problem to me... Is it the same for you with regards to powering off?

You can try wiping all the cache/data from the recovery menu

power off the phone. slide open the keyboard, press and hold X key, press and hold power, keep holding X key. You will go in stock recovery. Now press the magnifying glass key - a menu will appear. Perform data and cache clean, reboot the phone (from the menu).
If you are on GSM - it may help to take sim card out. Doesn't hurt to do at first boot anyways.
If nothing works - SBF back to stock and start over as suggested by abalsor
edit: to navigate around in stock recovery use arrows on the keyboard, ok to confirm and backspace to go back

what does SBF mean, and how do i do it? i was able to get to stock recovery, however, the suggestions you made didnt work
It looks like a long process but its really not that bad... Here is the link w/the file you need and RSDLite v4.9....
a few things to remember....
1.)make sure the battery is fully charged
2.)this will bring you back to barebone stock...
3.)follow the prompts and you should be fine...
also the 2nd post from the link above has step by step instructions on how to do it.... takes about 10 or so mins.... I would have posted an XDA link just couldnt find it right now...
*edit - Here is the link on XDA SBF to stock D2G

[Q] Need assistance reloading FastBoot (

I just received my Atrix2 this past Friday. I used the 1-click exploit and that worked successfully.
I downloaded Titanium Backup Pro and froze the "approved" services/applications. After that was complete the phone was pretty much soft bricked. No phone function, contacts didn't work, etc. I had to use the recovery feature. The phone came back BUT now I am receiving the following message "Flash Failure" (see below).
If I turn the phone back off, press both buttons on the side and select "Normal Powerup" it works just fine.
Has anyone run into this issue before? And how did you fix it.
-------------------------------------------
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Flash Failure)
0A.65
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
Data Cable
Thank you in advance for any suggestions!!!

Your only shot is to download rsd 5.6 and flash the fxz files located in the development section.should restore everything to bone stock.
OK, thank you. I will give that a try today and report back how it goes. Thanks!

mtnlion - Thank you very much! That worked!!! Now I have to get everything reinstalled. Thanks again!
Just glad to be of help.
Glad to see you got it fixed... just be a bit wary when freezing a bunch of apps at a time, sometimes you might misclick or the list of "approved" apps might be slightly incorrect... I would only freeze an app if you know what it does and you know that it is wasting unecessary resources.

[Q] Photon Q fml

I am having the worst time with my photon Q. I unlocked, CWM'd, rooted all without a problem. After an unsuccessful soft key mod I went back to restore my saved backup, and restored one from my old phone (Epic 4g) because I am using the same SD card I just got this phone yesterday!
Anyway, now my phone won't go past fastboot. The screen I get reads as follows:
Invalid Flash Mode (S)
10.99(*) (sha-1defefb, 2012-09-20 00:57:56)
eMMC Info: Size 8GB
Device is UNLOCKED. Status Code: 3
Battery OK
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
Fastboot Reason: Boot Failure
usb connected
My Question is wtf do i do? and my begging starts right meow: PLEASE HELP AS I AM NEEDING THIS PHONE FOR THE WORK WEEK TOMORROW! Thanks so much for all of your guys' awesome work and help.

How do I get these onto my phone/ run them since I cannot get CWM or TWRP to come up?
Here are a few button combinations that tend to be helpful in situations like this:
Power + Volume Down to force a reboot
Volume Up Button while rebooting, to get into recovery
Camera Button while rebooting(i think), to bring up a menu with bootloader, recovery, etc.

Lol, gotcha. What I might do is check out this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858959
That is basically what we have that is similar to an Odin restore for the Epic. The file has had some problems, but go towards the end to find links to a modified file that does work(I have used it), and a file someone linked that might be fully working, tho I haven't seen anyone try it yet. Maybe your device is still able to restore this way thru Fastboot.
Thanks found it

I got all that and did it then I don't think my battery was charged enough and now it's stuck in the WARNING BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED screen wish you could remove the damn battery.
Edit/update: Got system.img pushed via CWM after pushing CWM with fastboot. Got RSD to flash the rest of the files from mattlgroff's post on the RSD FXZ thread. After that it was push TWRP and make a backup of everything, then I applyed update, backed up, rooted, backed up. Keeping away from the mods for this week so I can actually use the phone I just got it Saturday. Thanks again to all the dev's and users who helped and continue to contribute to the site and droids in general!

New help removing ICS disk encryption...

Hi all,
I have a Samsung SII (T989) that's running rooted ICS 4.1.2 (tmobile)
and I enabled whole disk encryption that has been working fine for several months.
.
For some reasons, it did not accept my password to unlock now and it kept
asking me for password. It said after 20 tries it will erase so I entered after 20 times
and now it counts down saying that I have -10 tries and every time I entered a wrong
password, it just got to -1 more.
Is there a way to bypass this or how do I wipe it out back to stock? there is no option
to restore it back to stock?
yes, this is my phone and I am so frustrated. You all can see that I have been on this board for a long while.
I appreciate all your help.

You can boot in recovery (stock or custom, doesn't matter) and do a data / cache wipe. Or simply factory reset the phone.
If you still face problems, you can flash back to stock rom from odin.

You remember how you booted into recovery while rooting using the button combo?
Just boot into recovery mode and you will see options like apply update from sdcard
wipe data/reset phone
wipe cache etc.
Select wipe data/reset phone using volume up/down for scrolling througj options and home button for ok/select.
You will be asked for confirmation. Select yes and then reboot from the options you will get once it is done. Your device will be usable as it is. But you will loose all your data like contacts messages apps etc. You won't loose anything from sdcard though.
And just use the thanks button herafter for saying thanks.

A Hero Can Be Anyone. GENERAL HELP THREAD
Hi all,
can I get some help again...
I finally was able to get back to it.
The question now is:
- I cannot scroll any screen. I'm using Nova but I couldn't use my finger to scroll up and down?
It seems to be fine but I just couldn't scroll any screen.
- I couldn't pull down the status bar.
Basically, I could run any app that's on the screen, but I couldn't scroll
If this of any help: when I unlock the screen by pushing the numbers, I had to do every key twice
for it to register. For ex, to unlock the screen, before, I push '123', now I have to push '112233'
then ok twice for it to unlock. Everything is double.
Please help. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
mike
Never mind. Found that the setting->accessibility->explore by touch' was turned on for some reason and this made it unresponsive.
Turning it off made everything back to normal.
