U should download "windows mobile device center" from Microsoft.
WMDC keeps returning an error
I installed W7 last night, and WMDC is really the only thing that I haven't got working yet. Each time I plug in my Tilt, I get the spinning circle, and then a message the WMDC has stopped working. I've rebooted twice. I'm going to do some more checking after work, but I was dissappointed when it didn't work. Beta is beta, I guess. I sent the reports.
maybe it depends on the built
i'm using 7000 and it works great.

Turn your computer on with your device already connected. When I didn't do that, sometimes my computer gave that message you mentioned or my laptop froze all together.
Uninsatalled WMDC, and then reinstalled
Now it's good to go. I hope WMDC is more reliable under 7 than it was under Vista. It only recognized my phone about half of the time.
Just remove WMDC6.1 and reinstall it.
Windows 7 is MUCH better than Vista. there isn't even a basis for comparison.
i thought that 7 was using device stage to handle all of the stuff for peripheral syncing?? or is WMDC still going to be the only way?
Windows update
Manually run Windows Update when the phone is connected via a USB Cable.
Might work, it did for me under Vista, the only thing that got WMDC 6.1 working properly, even over BT.
Cheers

Hi I am setting up Windows 7, can someone please confirm that you still need WMDC 6.1 and not the 'add device / printer'?
Many thanks, Windows 7 is rocking at the moment!

It's worked for me with a Wizard + Elf(in) (Touch and O2XDA Mini S)
I have a G1 now and it's only ever worked on an older build of 7. Microsoft must hate it being linux and all
I can get it to work with my Diamond without any problems at all.
But, it will not connect to my Sammy i200, I have narrowed it down to not showing as a WM device in Device Manager as far, all deleting Temp files, checking Outlook etc. still trying...
I had to un-install and re-instal WMDC (I downloaded again from MS).
I also had problems running RUU on W7 but updating the driver (to the older one!) fixed that.
W7 does seem better than Vista in just about every way - and it's a Beta!
Love it
Its now driving me mad. Why after all these years is WMDC such a pile of crap?
It won't recognise either i200 or the Diamond now. Drivers seem OK, but I get 'Error'. Unistalled again, installed again, now it hangs on 'Please wait while WMDC starts'.
Plug devices in my PC with Vista, both phones start straight away!
On windows 7, when I plug in My mobiler fires up no probs, Tomtom Homes fires up, recognises and updates no probs. Try to sync with microsoft useless!
Edit:OMG, how simple was that!
Unticked 'Enable advanced Network' in Connections USB to PC, and voila job done, sync both phones no problem at all!
happy chappy.....
I have an issue here that is absolutely driving me up a wall. This is further compounded by the fact that the system this is happening to, the owner is leaving to go on a trip in 3 hours. I MUST fix it by then.
This part has nothing to do with my problem, this is some background info:
I personally use an HTC Imagio, flashed with a custom ROM, and obviously on Verizon's network. I tether it and sync it with a Windows 7 x64 Ultimate laptop at home.
The issue at hand: I have an HTC Mogul on the Sprint network for a higher up exec at my company that uses it with a Lenovo ThinkPad running Windows 7 Enterprise x64.
I cannot:
Get Generic RDNIS driver to install - at all -. I have combed through every post, every thread for the entire day relating to this issue. It is further compounded by the fact that the update for Windows 7 and the Windows Device Center update will NOT install. I also tried my prior mentioned HTC Imagio on the computer, it also generates a splatted device in the device manager, that not even Windows Update can load.
I have tried running the system in a local machine admin account to bypass UAC (and even disabled UAC altogether) and even checked safe mode for duplicates/issues.
What am I missing here? I can't even get the phone to sync its data, nevermind getting the tethering to work, which is what she needs the most. The phone is able to go into the Windows Mobile connection where it shows the USB connection type, and the connect button at the bottom - it'll connect, but it will drop the connection within 10 seconds.
Does *anyone* have ANY ideas where I can go from here? I have already rebooted both systems, but unfortunately a file reset is not an option here, and I'm less inclined to believe it would since my own phone has the same issue on her laptop.

Try Virtual XP (Windows XP image inside Windows 7) and install ActiveSync in there. You may be lucky enough to get it to work. I had a similar issue and fixed it that way...
Yeah, I've pretty much arrived at the conclusion that there is something on the system that is blocking the install of the WMDC, and short of a Windows reload, I can't get it to work. I'd considered XP mode, but this user won't know what to do with it, it adds an extra layer of complexity that she frankly doesn't care about, and won't use.
It works, though not made for the Captivate. Here's how to get it:
First, you will need to get .NET 4 Framework from Microsoft and install that. You will need to restart your computer after installing, so be prepared.
Go to samsungapps.com or it should be the first search link when searching for Samsung Kies using Google.
It will tell you that it's not available for the US.
Click the "Applications" tab in the upper right part of the screen.
Click "See all Countries"
Click on "Europe" then select "United Kingdom" (I did this just to make sure that whatever follows would be in English, but it may not matter)
At the bottom-center there will be a link "Download Kies" Save or Run the .exe
During installation, it will ask you what language you want. You can choose US at that point.
Phone wouldn't connect at first. I closed the program, disconnected the USB cable, then reconnected the USB cable and Windows started installing drivers. After that, I reopened Kies, selected Samsung Kies on the phone when prompted for USB connection type, and it started establishing connection with the phone. It will then show the phone's model number and your wireless phone number.
If you're having trouble after the drivers are installed, just make sure that the "MTP Application" with USB connector symbol is displayed on the phones screen. It Kies should recognize the phone and connect automatically after that.
It has a few useful features, but isn't the best phone assisting software I've used.
Thanks for this. I just wish I had it before I spent so much time getting my Outlook contacts on my phone.
I installed and ran the program before connecting my phone. When I did connect, it recognized it right away.
What kind of system did you do this on? I tried it a couple of days ago, but my 64 bit Win 7 system had no love for the Samsung MTP USB drivers.
XP, sp3
Someone posted on another topic that they had to update the .NET framework and some other stuff to get it to work on 7.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
I tried doing it on xp sp3 as well and it always says connecting device and it won't ever connect. Tried to re-install and all that updated everything and still wont work
Why do I need Kies? (innocent tone) All I've needed is mass storage option..
After installing Kies I kept having problems with Win7 64 bit until I plugged the USB cable directly into one of the motherboard ports. Once I did that things started working correctly.
I'm using Windows 7 Starter on my netbook. It's true, you have to get .NET 4 Framework, and I'll add that to the original post.
No one NEEDS Kies, but it is nice to have if you want to back up your contacts and convert videos to play on the phone.
Dave
I've found this only connects if you're using the TouchWiz launcher.

Tried that too. The Kies Recovery Mode attempts to install the drivers and the Samsung Android USB Composite Device does install but the CDC Abstract Control Model (ACM) driver fails.
Any idea what that "other stuff" is that might be needed?
Tnx
this is great... but for whatever reason, when transfering music, i can't get playlists to transfer, nor some album art...
oh and i'm using it on win 7 pro x64... you do need the .net 4 framework and it will only connect while using TouchWiz :-\

I'm on Win 7 64 bit , amazing guy , you're the best
Wow thnx a lot! finally its working for me and i have a windows 7 x64.
Can't connect.
My phone is rooted and all drivers installed fine except the MTP driver won't install.
I can choose mass storage and mount but when I choose Kies option on the phone it just goes crazy and keeps flashing MTP on the phone.
Someone posted somewhere that you need to do a factory reset but I really don't want to do that cause it will wipe all my apps and stuff.
Any other ideas?
You need to connect the usb cable with it already set to the Kies option.
My phone connects to Win7 x86 when it is in development mode and Kies registers that fact but complains that it cannot be in that mode. So I switch the mode off in the phone but now when I plug the phone in it does not even get recognized. Nothing, not even trying to install driver or a new USB device found.
What am I doing wrong?
Net 4 is installed and so are the Sammy usb drivers.
What's the point of Kies?
Hi,
I have HTC Tilt 2 and I have contacts with photos on that. Also all the photos are in sync with outlook. When I used Kies to sync my contacts it did not bring any photo? What should I do? I have more than 300 contacts..
Samsung, this is pathetic!
Wasted 2 hours of my life dealing with your stupidity.
heres the solution (problem was launcher pro):
1. grab the homeswitcher from market
2. set touchwiz crap as default.
3. reboot phone.
from then on, kies acts normally, phone gets detected normally etc etc etc.
thanks for wasting my time samsung.
edit: even after this i had probs, seems i need to reboot phone everytime i need to connect it. on first connect after fresh reboot it seems to work. goodluck. (very very very poor software as expected from samsung)
edit2: this is a bug fest! who coded this samsung? some student? jesus this soft is so bad it kills all the experience. what a piece of junk. barely works. flaky. buggy. samsung, fire your software team asap. they suck. only a true amateur can output this kind of garbage. this is below badly coded visualbasic garbage.
Seems to me you need to take your unhappy self and learn how to code. Then apply for a Job at Samsung claiming you can put their programmers to shame. IF you aren't gonna do anything about it, other than complain, you need to just STFU or get another phone.

Hi,
Has anyone managed to use HTC Sync with Inspire 4G? I know this is a known issue with a number of posts on the internet, but I figured if I'd find any solution, it would be in this forum. My Inspire keeps saying it couldn't find HTC Sync on my computer.

Unsafe Bloatware to Remove
Sorry. I made a mistake here. Deleting
i read that htcs servers were down and that was a problem. i don't use a sense rom so i can't check at the moment.
I couldnt get it to work on my desktop (Win 7 X64), but I got it to work on my laptop (Vista X32).
Thanks for the input.
I thought about trying that too. I have a laptop with Win7 32bit. If bit is the problem, it could work. If Win7 is the problem, then it won't. But, either way, I'd rather not sync my phone with my laptop as I rarely use it. I want to sync it with my main PC. Look like I'd have to wait for HTC to update its software.
HTC sync might not be compatible with win 7.

It is. I have been using it for my HTC Aria since the Arias came out last summer.
Mine is working
I have windows 7 ultimate 64bit, I downloaded HTC Sync from htc website after choosing my ph (inspire 4G), then download section. You need to disable antivirus software before installing HTC Sync.
It just worked for me. Also one more thing, when you attach your ph with computer after installing HTC Sync, you need to go to the ph, unlock it and then pull the menu from the top. Select HTC Sync, then it will show up on your computer.
I did that like 10 times and it didnt work. I did disable antivirus before the install.
Here's what I found (for me anyway).
This is the only way my Inspire recognized HTC Sync:
1. Make sure Inspire is NOT connected to your computer
2. Run HTC Sync on your computer
3. Connect Inspire and select HTC Sync mode
If my Inspire was connected already and switching from other modes such as Charge Only, it never found HTC Sync on my PC.
BUT, THAT'S NOT ALL. After sync, I discovered that HTC Sync failed to sync everything I told it to. Only some random music and video files were synced for some reason.
To me, it seems still rather buggy, so I'm gonna stick with iSyncr for now.
I got my Samsung Omnia 7 yesterday and have been unable to get Zune to recognise it.
My Windows 7 PC recognises it, the drivers are installed fine. I've read about the issue with the corrupt certificate but no certificate ever gets created.
I've followed the advice on a blog which was to delete the folder at C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA\, the folder get's recreated but still Zune fails to see me phone.
Is there anything else I can try? My phone is pre-NoDo status and is telling me there are updates but I can't get it hooked up to Zune to transfer music, update, etc

Yeah, tried all 3 USB ports on my laptop. The phone is picked up in Windows by all of them but still the same in Zune If I plug the phone in then Zune starts so it's detecting the phone but doesn't get any further.

I downloaded Zune on Saturday so I thought I had the latest version. I'm going to try the password solution. My account is a domain account so getting it back to using my original password is a bit of a pain because of the password policy on the domain but the net admins are going to let me reset it tomorrow.
My password hasn't changed since I installed Zune but it has changed once since I got this laptop.
OK, so I've had my domain password set back to what it originally was but still no joy. The folder get's created in C:\Users\<USER>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Crypto\RSA but no certificate gets created in my personal store.
Is there no way to manually create the cert?
SOLVED: Turns out it was a piece of software called CoSign which is installed on my work laptop which deals with digital signatures. It had taken control of my personal cert store.
Uninstalling it has resolved the issue.
No Need Hard Reset!
Hi all who has this problem.(Even to myself before I did this.)
New fix WITHOUT A HARD RESET LIKE ABOVE SOLUTIONS!
Hope you are looked at this before doing a Hard Reset.
1) Start up diagnostics
OR
Call ##634# (if you dont got the diagnostic "app" in the apps homepage
2) UNPLUG IF YOU HAVE THE PHONE PLUGGED
3) with the Diagnostics Menu, press *#7284#
4) Press an option that is not Zune Sync(E.g. Micro USB or Modem)
DONT KEEP PRESSING THE OPTIONS. PRESS ONCE ON ONE OPTION ONLY AS IT SOMETIMES GETS F-ed Up.
5) Wait for the reboot when prompted
*AFTER REBOOT, REPEAT STEPS 1-3, At Step 4, press Zune Sync again this time, and Wait for REBOOT when prompted again. Tedious, but rewarding.
6) On the Zune software on your Windows, Press Settings at the top Right
7) Press Software in main-menu ---> General in sub-menu
8) UNCHECK "Start the Zune software when I connect a compatible device
9) Hit "Ok", exit Zune
10) CONNECT PHONE TO WINDOWS
11) Connect Phone, not in locked screen(dont know if it affects)
12) Start Zune Software.
BOOM ***** YOUR DONE!
Found solution.
1.
If it is running, close the Zune software and disconnect your phone.
2.
Open Certificate Manager. To do this, clickStart , type certmgr.msc , and press Enter.
3.
ExpandPersonal , and then expand Certificates .
4.
Click the heading for theIssued By column to sort the column, and then look for one or more certificates that is issued to "zune-tuner://windowsphone/...".
5.
Right-click that certificate and then clickDelete . Click Yes .
6.
From theFile menu, click Exit .
7.
Start the Zune software and connect your phone to create a new certificate.
