I recently changed my Sprint Touch Pro 2 Outlook Exchange sync settings from As Items Arrive to Every 30 minutes. I am using Google's Exchange server.
However, now I find that that several times a day the device changes the settings on its own to Manually, which is not at all what I want. No matter how often I change it back to 30 minutes, within an hour or two I will find that the settings have reverted to Manually. I've even tried changing it back to As Items Arrive and it still changes back to Manually.
What is controlling this change and how can I wrest control back from it? It does not appear to be a setting in ActiveSync. I haven't found any commonality about when this change happens. That is, it doesn't happen during a sync with the Exchange server, it doesn't happen when I sync with my PC. But it will happen at most two hours after I change it, sometimes much more frequently.
Any help is appreciated. I searched a bit on the forums and I'm sure my answer is probably already out there, but the search queries I used turned up no hits.

Okay, so this is too weird. i have a new Cingular Treo 750. I have an IMAP account set up in the messaging. Its checks for email like every 2-4 minutes. I mean, its literally checking ALL the time. HOWEVER, I originally had it set to check every 17 minutes. MOREOVER, it continues to automatically poll at this frequnecy even after I have unchecked the automatic polling option. WTF???
ANy thoughts? How about any registry keys that I can edit?
There's a bug I discovered where there are TWO different places you set up the checking interval:
Menu>Tools>Options>(account)>next>next>next>Options>
Also:
Menu>DeliveryPreferences
Both of these spots have the identical options for chosing how often you connect and how much mail you download, etc.
But if you go in to the account in to the options and set it up, you'll notice that when you go in to Menu>DeliverPreferences they don't match.
As far as I can tell Menu>DeliveryPreferences doesn't work. You have to go all the way in to the account settings and in to the options and set it there.
So this MAY be a source of your problems as far as controling how often it connects. Make sure you disable scheduled sync in both places.
Yeah I was going to say the same thing as RF9. I notice this too.
Make sure you don't have it CHECKED and set to 0 min. This will make it check constantly.
Actually I wasn't able to change the settings on the menu-deliv prefs interval. I was however, able to delete the account and add it again so that I avoided going into the secondary menu at all. I think that this, kinda like the today soft keys, is a bit of a Palm being over zealous
Has anyone experienced weird ActiveSync behavior since upgrading? I sync with my work's exchange server and in WM5 I had no problems setting up a schedule and the Treo would stick to it, never trying to sync at other times. Now, even though I set it to sync at 30 minute intervals, it syncs on its own at random times (it tried about 50 times yesterday). It seems to totally ignore the settings within the phone. This is killing my battery time, I used to get about 3 days in WM5, but now only get about a day. I've tried resetting (hard and soft) a dozen times, setting it to manually sync, looked at the task manager and disabled repllog.exe, but it keeps syncing at will. I've noticed in the logs, on a scheduled sync it will say "type=scheduled", but all the other times it says "type=interactive". I never looked at the logs in WM5 because it worked like I told it to. Any suggestions, registry hacks to make it sync only on my schedule? Thanks in advance. BTW, I did scour the web for answers before posting, maybe I missed something.
OK, more info. I have gotten it to sync on schedule twice. If I fire up a task manager and look at the repllog.exe instances, on a good sync I will have 4 intances (three with AppRunAfter arguments which I understand are normal) and one with a /sched /remote /h argument which has the correct scheduled time to sync. On those occassions when it syncs at will, the task manager will show as many as 7 repllog.exe instances, with those above the normal 4 showing /remote /h /all arguments with various times before the next scheduled sync. Confusing? YES...Any takers?
Last post. It seems to be working now, I did have HandySwitcher running and set to close ActiveSync on disconnect. I turned that off and it has synced successfully for six 30 minute intervals. Thanks to all who may have been trying to troubleshoot. Still not convinced HandySwithcer was the culprit...but...
Did a search and could not find a similar thread addressing this issue. If I am incorrect, I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction.
I am currently running Assonance 5.2 and have set up Yahoo and Exchange accounts, with the phone set to check for email either every 5 minutes (for my Exchange account) or once every hour (for my Yahoo account).
I have noticed that, on a daily basis, my phone will stop checking for emails altogether even though background sync is turned on. Additionally, even when I delete emails from my phone, they remain on the server. Lastly, even though I have read an email, it still shows up as unread on the server. The phone has stopped checking at random times - on Monday, it stopped checking after 3:00 p.m.; on Tuesday and Wednesday, it stopped sometime after 6:00 p.m.; and on Thursday, it stopped checking around noon.
I have tried Improved Email and K-9, but the problem remains. As an FYI, I had the same problem even when I was running an unrooted phone that was running the stock Eclair.
Have other people encountered this issue? If so, is there a way to get the email working correctly? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Same here. I use mine for corporate and I have to say my Iphone was 10 times better when it came to email etc. Sometimes I can force a refresh....others I have to reboot. But I have missed some critical emails because they just werent syncing. I have learned to deal with it although it stinks. My email blows up during business hours, so If I havent gotten an email in ~45min, I know to check it.
I had this problem in the stock email client. Clearing the cache under the applications settings menu fixed it for me. After I had to fix it this way for about the 3rd time, I switched to K9 mail and havent had a problem since. I have hotmail, POP and Gmail accounts.
Im stock, by the way.
sent from my Captivate
Thanks for both of your replies. I'm glad (sort of) to hear that I'm not the only one with this problem.
@mike parsons - I am in the same boat as you where I have missed critical work emails due to the phone not fetching my email. I also grudgingly agree that the iPhone mail client worked much better. The only thing I could do to get the email on the Captivate working again was to restart the phone. Even then, I sometimes had to restart 2-3 times before the emails were sent to the phone.
I had this issue with stock Eclair 2.1 on my Rogers sourced Captivate SGH-I896 running Eclair 2.1-update 1.
It happened rarely with POP accounts, never with G-Mail, but with Exchange ActiveSync it was disastrous. I set up and configured this, and with my old Windows Phone 6.0 it did this maybe five times in 18 months.
During the off-time between Christmas and New Years it only received e-mail properly on ActiveSync two days out of eight. I didn't get much e-mail during that time either.
Sometimes it helps if I manually changed it from automatic (push) to every 15 minutes and hit "refresh" but most often it did not. The only fix was to remove the ActiveSync account and re-establish it, and it would work fine for a week or so until it started doing this again.
Another thing that seemingly affected it, was how much e-mail I would sync. It would happen quicker if I sync'd the last month of e-mail versus let's say one or two weeks.
I had run Cognition 2.3B7 without a hitch for about a week and a half and it never happened.
I just upgraded to the stock Froyo 2.2 and I'm hoping this isn't an issue with the upgraded client.
Use k9 mail. This is lots better than stock.
@diablo009 - thank you for the suggestion. However, I had the exact same problem using K9, so I am not sure what else I can try.

Did u try configuring k9 to fetch mails at intervals? It would be "folder poll frequency" under account settings. Want to see if u did this too.
Also, some apps need "background data" to be enabled in settings. Is that set? Same question about "auto-sync" being turned on.

Thanks for the suggestions - yes, I had tried different folder poll frequencies on K9 - 1 minute, 5, minutes, 15, minutes, and so on. However, there are still times when I won't receive an email for hours even though K9 is set to poll much more frequently. I will only learn of this when I check my mail through my home or work computer. In fact, on occasions like this (when I learn that phone hasn't downloaded the new messages), I will go into K9 (or the email app) and hit either refresh or check mail. Even in these situations, the new mail won't show up on the phone until I restart the phone completely. Again, I had this problem both on stock Eclair as well as on Assonance 5.2.
Also, I had enabled "sync server deletions" on K9, but messages still don't consistently get deleted from the server.
Lastly, background sync and auto sync are both enabled in settings.
Anyone else having this happen?
I have two hotmail accounts. One has my gamertag and is just my first and last name. That one's fine.
The second is my slush account which I use for forums, sign ups, etc. I have it set to Manual sync, yet it always syncs on its own. I just checked and it says "synced 17 mins ago". Anyone have an idea why it is doing that?
I have conversations turned off, and definitely set to "manual". I even set it to download email from "anytime", as I was thinking that possibly if it was set to "last 7 days" that it would auto-sync to keep it updated to email from the last 7 days?
Also, even though it's set to get email from "anytime" (which means in my other Hotmail that it grabs pretty much all of it), it still is only displaying the last week or so's worth.
I suppose I'll just delete it from my phone, then re-add it. But just wondering if anyone is familiar with this issue?
/LG Quantum with forced Mango in Ontario. Drivers as well.
I had the opposite problem, where I had the email set to sync every 15 min, and it had to be manually updated. It still showed the proper amount of emails though, since I had it set for last 7 days. I just ended up removing and re-adding the account.
Hi,
this is a strange question and a bizzare event thats occuring but i am hoping someone will be able to clear this up for me.
Basically i have had troubles with battery life on my windows 7 phone, its a samsung omnia on the orange network in the uk. This has ONLY been an issue since i upgraded to the Mango update last wednesday.
What i am finding is that my emails are syncing every 30mins or so despite being set to manual update only. I added 3 email accounts to my phone each via the windows live account addition option, i set them to each manually update only and only sync email not contacts/meetings etc... the mad thing is the main acount that is used under my people contact and the main hotmail/live account that is in use with the phone itself seems to stick at only updating when i tell it to sync (i have to click the refresh style sync button within the email screen) however the other two accounts after about 12hours start to go haywire and whilst they start out by syncing manual as soon as i have synced them manually once, after this they just update whenever they want too (every 30mins it appears)... i have tried a reset of the phone and starting from scratch but again eventually this flaw just keeps occuring! over and over, no matter how many resets i do
Its a real pain to be honest, when i first updated to mango i did link all the accounts together as there is an option to band all your accounts into the single hotmail livetile on the homescreen, i changed this option and decided against it, trouble is i cant remember if this issue happened then, im still pretty sure it did, its almost like the other two accounts have a mind of their own, is there any explanation as to what this could possible be?
I have tried to a rollback of my current firmware but it ended up bricking my phone so now it has gone in for a repair under warrenty to samsung, maybe it could have been a dodgy install of mango from day one? as my friend updated and he has the same phone yet hasnt experienced this email flaw, but then again he only has two accounts on his phone
Could it be the manual option no longer works in mango update?
many thanks for reading and hope someone can help, many thanks
