Sound Captivate - Captivate General

I have a Captivate from AT&T running 2.2 version I897UCJI6
I really need more sound out of this phone. Are there any hacks or downloads that can boost the volume up. On my Windows phone I have SRS Wow and it does a great job. I can hear my phone across the office. I want it for music without head phones. If anyone could help me out here I would really appreciate it. I am really not worried to much about battery drain, my phone is plugged in a lot. I am on the go a lot and speakers are not really handy. Can I do a hack on the sound. the speaker on the phone is OK, just no volume, I use the blue tooth in my car and speakers at home, but I am really looking to go outside these boundaries.

Get some speakers. PC 2.1 speakers, MP3 player speakers, bluetooth speakers, anything will work. Mine's connected to the PC line-in and sounds wonderful but also through the desk dock with a new kernel that adds USB audio-out support. It works great.

Galaxy Tuner in the Market. Voodoo sound and the Voodoo app make a big difference as well.

Remote control with headphones

On my previous phones diamond and hero i've used the HTC RC E100 remote. It was quite handy, allowed me to control the music player without getting the phone out of my pocket, and the best thing was i could just use my own headphones!
Unfortunatly it has a mini-usb connector. Now that the desire uses a micro USB connector i am looking for something similiar.
Control for music, volume, phone (incl. mic) and where i can plug in my own headphones.
I just love those in ear headphones and don't want to use the ones that came with the desire.
Does anybody know about a remote that would fit my desire and my needs?
Thanks everyone!

Maybe something like these: http://www.lgmobileshop.co.uk/go/ac...10m?NAVID=2DE6D616-3005-BC57-7F4D79DFC6BE490B
Not sure how good/bad they are in terms of quality.

The Desire uses a standard micro USB (5-pin micro-USB 2.0) connection, I am just thinking whether or not the Desire even supports audio through the USB...
As far as I know, the Nexus One uses a standard Micro-USB connector, which has no audio support. The only way to listen through an amp is Bluetooth or the headphone jack.

thank you for the provided information. as the nexus one and the desire are very similar, i guess the desire will miss the audio support via usb as well. in all other phones where audio via usb was supported, HTC has used a non standard usb port.
i will keep on searching for a remote that plugs in via the headphone jack. if someone has an idea

I think I have a solution.
Jabra BT3030 bluetooth headset. A2DP and AVRCP so you get your stereo sound and also utilise audio controls. Plus it has a 3.5mm jack so you can plug in whatever headphones you want.
Google it. I've got one on the way.
I've been looking for head phones too, and these look like the best offer so far. I am a bit worried about the blue tooth running down the battery though. But let me know how you find these. If all the buttons work with the desire I'll probably get myself a set.
I've been using my Jabra BT3030 and the controls do work. There is a small time lag between pressing a button on the Jabra and it responding.
One good thing I found about the phone (with or without headphones) is that the volume control on the phone works even when the phone has gone to sleep. On my HD2 that didn't happen and it really annoyed me.

So how is the Jabra overall? Worth buying? I've been reading the amazon reviews and some issues have been raised, like the buttons not working with music after you get a call. Do the volume buttons work, and how is the sound quality? Lastly, how bad is it on the battery?
Thanks in advance.

i think i will give it a try, the only thing that worries me is the fact that i would have another thing to charge. I was also thinking about soldering a headphone jack into the standard htc remote that came with the phone. i will keep you up to date.

these look interesting, i've been thinking about looking for some headphones with music controls too...
how is the sound quality with the jabra bt3030, is it just as good as having headphones plugged into the phone?
does running bluetooth hammer the phone battery?
yea i like the look of it, the ability to skip tracks without whipping ur phone out seems great. that always annoyed me with the iphone.. but as i listen to music for hours on end at work (Without a charger handy), i wanna know how much the BT will effect battery life?
id imagine it would decline pretty quickly ?
I have a Jabra BT 3030 which I used extensively with my G1 because I hated carrying around a MiniUSB to audio jack lead.
However I haven't even tried it with my Desire, like someone said its just another thing you need to remember to charge, and as the Desire has a headphone socket (and a micro usb) it would mean carry two leads, or an adaptor to keep them both charged.
That said the Jabra has a fairly decent battery life as long as you remember to turn it off when your not using it.
The sound quality is perfectly acceptable for listening to music unless your a real audiophile, though its obviously not as good as a direct connection to the phone.

Heh. Arrowed.
I use a pair of Sony DR-BY20NX Bluetooth headphones with my desire. headphone battery life is 11hrs.it also has audio controls and can answer call.
fairly cheap but discontinued and becoming hard to find. well worth it though.

I was in CPW last week and the guy who was serving me also had a desire, he was using the Nokia Bh-214 (iirc), its a bluetooth remote with a 3.5mm plug. I tried it out and it sounded good, it has full controls including volume. Its around £40 and available
Also, I have been searching about and found the Sony MW-600 its a bluetooth remote with a 3.5 mm jack, it also comes with headphones and has a built in FM radio. Also has full controls, its around £40 and not out till May.
Personally I am going to wait till the Sony one is out, it has positive reviews and i trust Sony more when it comes to music and the like. Just annoying having to wait!
I am using a cheap BT A2DP, and it works very well. It can be used as BT handsfree or stereo earphone, also has a remote to skip and back the track, that works fine in TuneWiki (but it not for HTC player). The quality of the sound is still far below my KOSS earphone though... but for 26USD and free delivery that thing is really a good deal.
This is the link, but I just found out that is sold out at this moment.

They have another one, almost the same spec but I don't know whether it works as good as the other one.

Bluetooth headsets

Ive done a bit of searching here and havent found any posts with the information I'm looking for, they only had suggestions such as "i use these they sound good", not facts.
I'm looking for some bluetooth headphone suggestions along with the input sensitivity and bluetooth version as well as your opinions on satisfaction but mainly something that includes the input sensitivity of the different bluetooth headsets out there that people are using.
I am looking to move to a stereo bluetooth headset from my current bose in-ear headset and looking for something that will be the least disappointing in the move.
I use the Motorla S305 headphones. They are compatible fully with the music player (next, prev, stop, play, and etc) and all the phone options (dial, hang up, mute, and etc). The sound quality is great. They are pretty light weight and don't put too much pressure on your ears. I had them on for 4 hours straight with no issues.
I got a pair on amazon for $33.
I'm not sure what you mean by "input sensitivity." Are you talking about button pushing and what not? I haven't had any input or any mechanical complaints yet..
I just got the Sony Ericsson MW600 and it works really well. The nice thing about it is that I can use any wired earphones with it. It also includes an FM radio tuner.

I've been using the Plantronics 903 BackBeat for about a week now and they're awesome.
I also have the Bose in-ear headphones and was pleased to find that the earpieces on the BackBeat are the same exact style as the Bose (but they're not interchangeable).
The BackBeat is nice and loud, and all the buttons work, as well. One thing that I really like is that you can press the main button on the right earpiece to pause your music and use the built-in microphone to pipe in sound from around you. This way, you don't have to remove the headset to hear things around you. I wear them in an office setting so this feature is really important and works awesome.
As you already know from the Bose, these eargels do a killer job of keeping your music in and other sounds out - I can listen to my music at whatever volume without disturbing others nearby, even in the elevator.
Battery life is decent - I make it through a full workday with no issues, and they charge via microUSB (not proprietary) so I can easily charge them off my laptop if necessary.
Not sure what specifics you're looking for, but I'd highly recommend the BackBeat.
thanks for the input guys
as far as the input sensitivity i was thinking about the ohms and decibal values that the headphones can push and what frequencies the phones are rated on producing
a friend at the office has the 903 backbeat and he was going to let me try them, i work in an office environment as well and think they might work, just need to hear them first. The only worry I have is I also want to take them to the gym with me and worry about that loopy in the back bouncing too much, which is why im also looking at the s9-hd headset but have no one to reference to try them out.

[Q] Car Dock

Folks,
This is probably a stupid question, but I own the car dock and a Samsung Fascinate... obviously. My question is the car dock only plugs into the microusb port but has a connector on the rear, and comes with a 3.5mm audio jack.
That being said when completely connected to the dock and radio it does not play audio except from the built-in speaker.
What is this about? Is there something I am missing? A setting somewhere or... ?
Thanks for the thoughts.
The 3.5 jack is "supposed" to work when android 2.2 (froyo) is released for the phone.
Too bad the software portion responsible for this can't be ported back to 2.1
Arrrggh.. I bought one too along with a desk dock. Only to find out it's useless. I'm returning them while I still can.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Thought i would chime in here.
I too am waiting/hoping for froyo to fix the 3.5 jack but in the mean time i just turn my phone over and insert it backwards into the car dock when i need the audio out and plug both the usb and the audio in.
It works for me to, at the least, buy me time until i can do right.
Come on froyo!!!
Fascinate Voo Doo One Point Two
Easy fix...get a head unit that supports bluetooth and run your music through that. With hands free laws taking over everywhere it's not a bad move anyway. I've got that setup in my car and absolutely love it! Music is very clear and sounds great, not like radio transmitters. Since it's charging while playing you don't lose any battery life at all.
While I wouldn't call swapping out a head unit an "easy fix", I do second that comment that it is awesome and convenient to stream audio through bluetooth to the car.
Well,
2.2.1 is fully functioning and out now. The dock 3.5mm outputs work, and all in life is well. Be happy guys! PS: Go push the 2.2.1 leak (any of the versions, there are multiples!) onto your phone!
It does not void the warranty, if you have a hardware issue just use a windows PC and ODIN to jam the DI01 or DL09 stock unrooted load on the phone and your all set for warranty support/exchange. It takes 10 minutes to ODIN back to stock, easy as pie!
I have to second this. I initially just used the dock with the phone in backwards under 2.1, and directly plugged my USB and Audio leads directly into the phone. Since I flashed to 2.2.1 leak, it has been working wonderfully the way it's supposed to.
I really was pleased with the dock when I first got it, it's solidly built. Having to wait a short while for all of the features to work was a minor inconvenience to me, but now I'm really happy I stuck it out.
I am on DL30 right now with the car dock and the set up is still not doing audio through the audio out. To the people who are using it without a problems are you using the stock music player or a different player and is it working for calls, and audiobooks as well? For some reason I am having no luck wondering if it is.because.I don't use touchwiz apps.

On DL30, I have to open the Car Cradle application, and if the phone is in the dock, a little 'speaker' toggle icon appears next to the 'Exit' icon, this will switch audio to the dock output. It doesn't auto-switch.
There are applications on the market that will auto-switch based on the phone activity, such as Tasker. All DL30 does is enable the ability to use the external audio connection on the dock.
Now, I don't use TW either, I use LauncherPro, so I'm not sure if TW will auto-switch or not. I'm betting it probably will, as previously only TW would auto-launch the Desk Cradle and Car Cradle apps when the appropriate dock was detected, in all other launcher frontends I've had to start the application manually or use apps like Tasker mentioned above that would detect the dock and launch the associated app and settings.
I've noticed that the audio out of the car dock is terrible. Anyone else?
adrynalyne's DL30 1.0 with the included kernel btw
As far as I know, you need the stock music player. This is because you need to have the Car Cradle app open or the sound will just play through your phone speaker. Also, the Car Cradle app has a speaker "button" that you will need to toggle.

You need the Car Cradle to toggle the external aux connection, but you are not limited to stock music players, etc, to utilize it. I have Google Maps/Navigation prompts running through it, as well as Subsonic for music playback. As long as I've launched the Car Cradle app and toggled the connection on, all audio that would normally be output by the rear speaker (as far as any audio that has been produced on my phone so far when docked) uses the external aux properly.
As far as sound quality goes, my sound has been very good so far. I have engine noise coming through the USB charger, but once that's disconnected, it's quiet and high quality. Now, once I get this noise suppressor connected to my power source, that engine buzz will go away for good.

Try plugging some headphones into the phone and listen to a song. Then plug into the car dock and listen to the same song.

Not only. I just got SlipGrip case and it fits perfectly with OtterBox Commuter on. The only problem for me was suction cup which is big (3.5") so it didn't stick to my tomtom adhesive disk on the dashboard. But it holds to windshield very good. I can't post any links yet so you have to google it ("SlipGrip Car Holder For The Samsung Fascinate With Case")

Ok, I tested 5 different scenarios. In the Fascinate Car Dock with aux enabled, on an FM transmitter, and on three separate headphones: standard iPod earbuds, Klipsch in-ear headphones, and Sony studio headphones from my recording studio gear. I am on SuperClean 2.1, and used both the included Music app and Subsonic for playback on each scenario. For comparison, I also performed all scenarios on three other devices: an Archos 605, an iPod Classic, and an iPod Touch.
With all of that, I couldn't discern an audible difference between the Fascinate and the other devices tested in the corresponding scenario.
The reason I stopped using my Archos was because the Fascinate's audio was just as good, and with Subsonic negating the need to sync my media library, it really has become an almost perfect portable media platform for me. Now, if I could only get the aux on the car dock to work without the need for the cradle app, it would be perfect.
Hope this helps.

Oh, to add, obviously I didn't plug the other media players into the car dock, but I tested using the same 3.5mm aux cable that the car dock used for the Fascinate.

HTC Car StereoClip (Aux) Audio Bridge (CAR A100)

Hey all
I just ordered this clip and am excited to get it. I am just wondering if any of you geniuses can add the software to our Sensations to support the aptX audio enhancement CODEC?
http://www.htc.com/www/smartphones/accessories/htc-car/
Premium music for those on the go
Wirelessly stream music from your HTC phone through your car stereo speakers with the Car StereoClip (Aux). Just plug the adaptor into a 3.5mm auxiliary port, and listen to premium, authentic sound thanks to embedded apt-X enhancement.
Are you on Sense 3.6 or 4.0? Either way you should let us know how it works w/ your sensation.
Maybe that's why we're having BT issues on 4.0 ports... the new codec? meh, just a random thought.

The Stereo clip should be shipping at the end of this month.
I'm very excited for this! I've been looking for a good adapter for AGES! I was about to buy a bluetooth adapter to a headphone jack to stream my phone audio to the car stereo via bluetooth to headphone jack. But this looks perfect and reliable. Hopefully it'll work out

Just wanted to add that this dongle has an imbedded battery (6-8 hour estimated), with a micro USB charging port.
I hope to be able to hide this away in my car, and run continuous power to it so I don't have to take it back out again. Hopefully some reviews with good info come out
Since it's a Bluetooth adapter, would it work with other phones via A2DP? Or does it work specifically with HTC phones using a proprietary connection/codec (aptx)?

Hey all, well the HTC Car StereoClip came in today. I am very pleased, it works just like advertised. It lets me connect via Bluetooth to the clip and play Music thru to my car stereo. When a call comes in it defaults to regular phone earpeice mode and does not try to play the phone call thru bluetooth.
First quick impressions, audio quality is fine. What I am really wondering is would audio quality really jump up in quality if we had the aptX audio enhancement CODEC in the Sensation?

OK, so I guess that means that the phone (One X in my case) can't connect to both this device AND my bluetooth built-in car kit - one for streaming music and one for phone calls?
My car (BMW) has a factory Bluetooth kit installed but, unfortunately, it doesn't support music streaming. I have been using a cable to connect my phone's head phone socket to the AUX-in port of the car and this has been working fine. Music streams via the cable and get's muted when a call comes in via the Bluetooth kit and then un-muted when the call finishes.
I was hoping to pair my phone to both Bluetooth devices and have them working simultaneously, one for music output and the other for phone calls.
Too much to ask for?
Software fix?
...When a call comes in it defaults to regular phone earpeice mode and does not try to play the phone call thru bluetooth...
It really quite stupid that you can't also use this devise for phone calls. When a call comes in, it should remain using the BT. I wander if there is a way to make it work? Perhaps some sort of software or app or something to make this happen...

I guess thats why they also sell the car mic (v100) as a separate piece to the car accessories stuff.
I have both on order, but both are in backorder. Expansys.usa for the car mic and sprint.com for the stereo clip. I'll let you all know how it all works together.

Can you confirm that indeed call does not come through even when there is only a single device pared (mobile and A100)? That would really be shame as this might have been the perfect solution for hands free calling, having mic from the phone for outgoing audio and car speakers for incoming audio.
The easiest way to tell is just to look at the bluetooth pairing settings for the stereoclip, is it just pairable as a media device, or media as well as phone?
Hey All
Ok I wanted to give an update. I am extremely please with StereoClip.
My car is a 2005 Cadillac STS with Nav and factory Blue-tooth for phone but does NOT support Blue-tooth Audio. So I have had to use the AUX in for Pandora until now. The stereo is the factory 15 speaker BOSE system plus a Kicker 10" sub in a custom fiberglass enclosure with its own 1,000 watt amp.
Tonight I just compared the sound quality of Blue-tooth vrs being wired/plugged in. I was nicely surprised that I could not tell a bit of difference in quality. This was done parked in my garage with the car on. I listened to Jazz, Rap, Latin, and Techno. I listened for bass quality, highs, openness, and to my surprise I could not truly tell how I was connected. I was positive that being connect via blue-tooth I was NOT going to get the same sound quality, that I would give up some quality for convenience. Well at least in my 15 min quick test of starting a song listening to it for a min or so then switching how its connected to the car stereo and continuing the song I could not hear any difference. Very happily surprised.
Then I drove for dinner and decided to see if my phone would also pair to my car at a blue-tooth cell phone at the same time will listening to music and it did. My Sensation was paired to the HTC StereoClip and to the Cadillac at the same time. I made a phone call, Pandora paused, The call connected I spoke for a min or two then hung up and then Pandora resumed. All worked perfectly.
So the StereoClip works perfectly. I'm thrilled.
Thanks HTC.
P.S. the only little annoying thing is, for me to pair to it I have to actually press the pairing butting on the StereoClip and then tell my Sensation to connect to it. So its two additional steps I need to do EVERY TIME I get in my car. Kinda a hassle but I feel its better than seeing a wire and being hard wired to the car....

I'm glad you like it! I'm curious of what ROM you are using right now. And would you mind testing it on AOSP based ROM??
Please see attached screen shot to see the exact ROM.
I just rooted my phone (any phone) for the first time several weeks ago. I am extremely please with how my phone works. Someone asked if I could try a different ROM, honestly I'm a believer if it works don't fix it, so I really don't wish to mess with a new ROM for now. So sorry.
Jerry
Got my Stereo Clip in today
And I must say is very nice! I use to use the aux cable to connect the phone to the head unit but with this lil puppy its just bad a$$!
My setup:
I have a BlueAnt S4 (on sale btw on dailysteals.com for 20 bux in the USA I think, sorry!) and that plays media through its speaker. So all my navi voice prompts can be heard through the S4. And the profile the S4 supports is phone audio of course and media audio.
Now I introduce the HTC Car A100. Pairing was easy peasy. Then jumped in the truck to see how this works. I pulled up poweramp and started a track. Then turned on the bluetooth on the phone. Now both the S4 and A100 is connected to the phone. However when connected the music started playing though the S4.
I then went into the bluetooth profile of the BlueAnt S4 and unchecked the media profile. This will then in turn only be used for phone calls only, which works because the A100 cannot play the calls through the speakers. I restarted the track and viola, the music started to stream smooth as silk through my speakers. And it's nothing like the FM transmitters for ipods, this is clear as my aux cable!
I have to say I have not received a call yet with both running. I'll report back on how this functions in my setup. I hope it works lol...

Microsoft Surface Pro sound way to quiet

Out of all my devices that I have and have used my Surface Pro has the most quiet external speakers of them all.
Try to play a Netflix movie or show and have anything else going on around you and you won't even be able to hear it.
It's great with head phones on but I use this all the time for watching shows and movies while working out. Its so quiet I have to use headphones when I am on the treadmill or I cannot hear it playing while the treadmill is on.
I hope Microsoft addresses this on the next model.
Love my Surface Pro, it is by far the best device I have used so I can easily live with the sound issue.
If your are thinking about buying it, stop reading this, go to a store or order from their site and get one NOW.
I own a network technology company and handle IT support for a lot of companies and I can do everything on this (using it to type right now) that I could do with a full blown PC setup. I have also owned every tablet, laptop, and device that has ever come out so trust me when I say it is great.
This unit has replaced my Lenovo Yoga 13, and my Samsung Ativ 500 and 700 with no issues. I have also had every Samsung and Asus tablet and this is a bad boy. This also includes the Tab and Note series.
Hey not sure if this will help you but it works well on things that are low volume at the source.
Go to your sound settings in the control panel, go to speaker properties, then enhancements, then enable "Loudness Equalization" and click settings and set the "Release Time" to shortest.
This might actually make your videos sound worse through headphones but when using the external speakers it normalizes the volume so that extremely low sounds are louder and extremely loud sounds are softer.
Also this might not work well with applications that have built-in sound normalization like MPC-HC so you might want to only enable it when you're watching netflix or youtube or other flash based media that doesn't have built in normalization.
IMO the sound's loud enough, louder than all my tablets and my old dell laptop. But definitely softer than my brother's MSI gaming laptop.
RT is the same. Bummer, but oh well. I use a Belkin bluetooth receiver with my old computer speakers, works GREAT! :good:

Hmm, sounds like a good idea for me actually. Might have to invest in one.

You sir.. where do I send beer money.. My Surface is finally louder than a mute mouse.. YAY
For what it's worth, if you have an original Surface Pro or the Pro 2, you may be able to use Ears (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1463948377/ears-for-the-surface-tablets). They're not on sale yet (and the Kickstarter project has ended) but they should be available for purchase after the KS backers receive theirs.
I don't know if the Surface Pro 3 will be supported though.
You ROCK!!! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! You have no idea how much grief that has caused. That is something that has driven me crazy since the day I got my Surface! Now I love my Surface
The same would go for the (new) Microsoft Surface Pro 3 as well. The sound is truly NOT loud enough at its max volume and "loudness" setting.
Solution:
- Get a portable USB headphone DAC amp like the FiiO E18 or something comparable for your SP3 and/or phone/mp3 player that's smaller if a smaller size is your forte.
FYI:
I always use my Shure SE846 IEM's for earphones with my SP3 and phone... as they will blow your mind to smithereens. At $1000 retail, I expected nonetheless and I was highly pleased when I upgraded from the Shure SE215 earphones to these professional-grade IEM's. Before buying my SE846's, I read at www.head-fi.org that these IEM's NEED an external amp I bought the Fiio E18 Kunlun. After listening to the same songs WITH the FiiO USB DAC amp... I was truly dumbfounded. At times, when using my SP3 with the Fii0 amp I have to turn the volume down at the start of some songs because it gives me a headache from some of the songs being a little bit too bass heavy. So to whoever reads this... pass along the info to everyone you know with tablets, home theater systems (with separate receivers), laptops, desktops, and ALL versions of the Microsoft Surface tablets that you WILL NEED an external USB amp! DAC amps are technically better but a regular USB-powered or external portable built-in rechargeable earphone amp will work. The FiiO E18 gives me like 16 hours of hi-fi music when fully charged too.
Worked for me +++++
