[Q] Google Voice integration?

My wife and I are on Sprint with Evos. We're thinking about switching to T-Mobile and getting Sensations.
For me the biggest hangup is how the phone and T-Mobile service will integrate with Google Voice. My current plan is to port my cell # to GV, get a new cell # from T-Mobile, and forward calls from GV to the new cell #.
Under the above scenario, will all calls eat minutes from our pool?
Will we still get free T-Mobile to T-Mobile calls?
Do WiFi calls eat minutes? Articles online seem to indicate that as of May they no longer do, but the website and T-Mobile reps say they will.
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

I was in the same boat as you. I have a ported Voice number as well. Yes, if you use their network, you will still get the free tmo to tmo. And the weekend and nights that they offer, depending on your plan. And WiFi does use your minutes if they are whenever minutes.

I just switched myelf. I got the new unlimited talk/text/web. Just ported my sprint number to google voice and plan on forwarding all calls to my t mobile phone.
Couldn't pass up the price of the new plan.

You can get free WiFi calling added to your plan so it will not deduct from your plan minutes.

Visual Voicemail

Just wondering if anybody has been able to get visual voicemail working on the Infuse? Can't search too well from this phone app so my apologies if this has been beaten to death before. Would love to get this working on the wife's Infuse.

att doesn't offer it other than the iPhone but Google offers Google voice which you setup from the gmail site and download the app. and there is also youmail but for youmail you have to pay for transcriptions to make it readable. if money wasn't an object the youmail transcription service is much better than Google voice but Google voice is free. good thing att doesn't surcharge for call forwarding, but the length of the forwarded call is counted towards minutes as far as I understand.
for Google voice you may need to find a dialer code on the gmail site and punch it into the phone. sometimes it wont set its self up.

I can vouch for Google voice. Its pretty cool to have a widget with your voicemail on your homescreen that you can check every now and then. However the transcription really isnt that great. Most of the time it will give wrong words or "this message cannot be transcribed at this time" message. i would try youmail out. Its free if you dont want the transcription service. so you can still see the calls missed and listen to the messages on-demand. which is just as good as gv. last i checked thought the interface on the free version had ads.

I have used YouMail for a while and I love it. Haven't tried anything else though because YouMail does everything I need very well.

For Rogers users, they have announced a visual voicemail service for android. Granted, the initial support is for a two or three phones but the potential is there.

I was not aware. took them long enough the invest in android. ofcource before only they had the iPhone so everyone else had to invest in android to compete.

My Infuse on T-Mobile EDGE has visual voicemail.

google voice is excellent. much better than any other offerings ive seen. ive been using it for about 2 years now. text transcriptions are great and they dont delete your messages after 14 days.

someone on the htc vivid thread had said you can use visual voice mail on any phone by changing the apn or someting.. the instructions there, my phones always had visual til this one.

Too bad Google Voice is not available in Canada.

Ok, I have a question. My daughter has an iPhone and I was helping her set up her email on it when she got a phone call during the process. I did not answer it, but when they left a message I was very impressed by the way the iPhone displayed the message on the phone. there was actually a list of all of her v-mails and it listed who they were from and what not.
I am sure we do and I just don't know it, but do we have anything like this?

There are a few apps out there, but many will probably recommend using google voice and activating the voicemail transcribe feature.

Isn't that Visual Voicemail? If so AT&T charges extra for it.

That is called Visual Voicemail. AT&T had this set up exclusively for iPhone since iPhone's inception into AT&T, and to make data mandatory. They haven't expanded to other phones, yet.

Google voice can do something like this, and it doesn't set the popup in the middle of the screen, it shows up in the dropdown bar.

Google voice is free for voicemail. I use it. AT&T does have a visual voicemail option that you can add to your plan, but why do that when GVoice is free. (Note: I am using CM7, so idk what difference it'll make if you are on a stock ROM)

there is visual voicemail on the newest phones as far as what I've heard. Google voice is free and att doesn't surcharge for forwarded calls. att isn't so bad. for the money you get coverage and little perks like this. try Google voice on sprint see what the phone bill comes out to be with all the forwarded calls.

Funny thing is that we have Sprint Voicemail. It's an app that downloads the voicemails to your phone and uses the data of your phone. but rememember, I have unlimited data so it works perfect. It's included in the unlimited data. plus, forwarding is including in most of the plans. So, if you're on Sprint, there's no need for GVoice.

ok, so im getting the 100 minute, unlimited data 30$ tmobile plan on my sprint nexus 5 cause sprint totally sucks.
i have a google voice number and i was just wondering, now that hangouts has calling integrated, can i just use google voice number to make and receive calls over data?
im reading conflicting things, like some people want call forwarding from tmobile (im thinking they want their cell number forwarded to google voice) which 1)isnt an option and 2) not really needed since people will be calling my seperate google voice number
also reading that tmobile blocks google voice on their prepaid plans for some folks
is anyone using the 30 month 100 minute unlimited tmobile data plan and making and receiving calls using a seperate google voice number?

Yes VoIP in Hangouts works just fine with the T-Mobile $30 plan. You can't forward from T-Mobile to GV but that doesn't matter if you use your GV number to take incoming calls.

Yes, I just set up a GV number and I'm going to begin providing it to my family members and close friends to use as the number to reach me. Everyone else can leave a message for me to pick up in visual VM, and then I'll call them back if needed. The only negative is that T-Mobile's coverage really stinks outside of a few areas where it's screaming fast. Inside my house in Metro Detroit, my wife can get 30 Mbps on her Verizon GS4 while I get 5-8 on my LG G3. And it can be really spotty as you travel between cities & towns, so missing a few calls & texts when driving is going to be a real probability. But for $30/mo, I can probably live with it.

The coverage is what killed it for me. I'd been waiting for Hangouts and voice to merge but switched to straight talk last month. Happy to finally get coverage in the locations I'm in the most.

First, you sure can just use Google Voice number to make and receive calls over data. In fact, Hangouts only use data, not voice/talk minute at all.
Second, prepaid mobile phone plans do not have conditional forwarding which is required to forward incoming calls to mobile DID (Direct Inward Dialing -- telephone number) to Google Voice DID. Therefore, you are correct. It is not an option. Moreover, you are also correct as to there is no such need to forward calls from mobile DID to Google Voice DID due to people will be using separate Google Voice DID. I would suggest you port Sprint mobile DID to Ring.to and have Ring.to forward all incoming calls and texts to your Google Voice DID. Consequently, people have been using your current Sprint mobile DID will continue be able to contact you without changing your DID. You just get a new DID from T-Mobile when you sign up for $30 prepaid plan for 100 minutes talk, unlimited text and data with first 5 GB up to LTE speeds.
Third, I am using $30 prepaid plan for 100 minutes talk, unlimited text and data with first 5 GB up to LTE speeds and using Hangouts for outgoing calls. It just work flawlessly! I use Voxox for incoming calls and do not use mobile DID came with T-Mobile $30 plan at all.

Anyone on Straight Talk using Google Voice for their Voicemail?

I've be looking at my options since Verizon announced a price increase for the people who still have unlimited data plans. I was seriously considering getting the Moto X Pure, and moving over to Straight Talk. The hold up is that I've seen conflicting reports about being able to use your GV for voicemail on ST system. The most recent information says that they do not support Conditional Call Forwarding (CCF) on any network they use, Verizon or ATT I have seen where people have said they have been able to use it for their voicemail with GV installed also on the phone, and that seems to have the most success on the ATT network. Unfortunately, those posts are older, like 2013/2014, so things may have changed. I have seen, and their website says it will work, that you can use Youmail if you have an ATT sim on ST.
I'm wondering if anyone who has Straight Talk is using Google Voice for their voicemail, and how they got it to work. Also it's important to know what network you are using, a ATT sim or a Verizon sim.
