[Q] Sim Card Compatablity - HTC Inspire 4G

So heres a question. When i talked to the sales rep they said i would be getting a new sim card. So if thats the case is the new card compatable with my current Tilt 2 phone (HTC Rhodium) since the Inspire is not a world phone?

A sim is a sim. As long as the phone is compatible with the network and not locked(or on its locked carrier) it should work fine. They reused my Captivate sim.

When I got my phone they gave me sim it looks different form the 3g sim. the pattern on the back is changed so you can get the 4g frequency

Yeah, they gave me a new sim, they said it was for the 4G

A new SIM is not required for HSPA+. Any change you see is purely coincidental.

This is absolutely correct you don't need new sims
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk

heck, they put the 'cingular' sim in the inspire from my krazr and it works fine.

The sim card i am using is from my old tilt 2. They just moved it from my old phone into my new Inspire working great.

Sounds like the sales rep you dealt with was a confused. New sim cards have been released for LTE, but they are not supposed to be activating them until the old sim cards are depleted.

AT&T has released a new batch of SIM cards that will support HSPA+ and future LTE devices. I have attached a image of what the new SIM looks like. You will not notice any difference between the new SIM's until you begin using LTE devices in 2012.

Oooh lord not this BS again. Hey guy why spread these rumors for? Do you work for TMobile and trying to get people to buy SIM Cards for $9.99? The fact is this theory has actually never been proven and there are people like myself who can verify who used 2-3years simcard and saw same speed. But the thing is old simcard had less memory for storage along with limit as how many time it could connect to the network for data connection before burnt out but sim could still be used for voice and edge. There is no such thing 4G simcard lol its just another failed attempt at cheap marketing go test your old "3G" simcard in MT4G and compare it with new "4G" simcard I grantee it you will not see any results, lets not fall for the companies BS okay folks this is what we call placebo effect.
Dude I have no idea what the heck your talking about.. or if you know what your talking about yourself..
Anyway my phone NOW has a UICC 4g sim card now, the old card was NOT A VICC card and help desk Rep said that old sim card should not have been Put in my phone to begin with, it was a oversight on tmos part. (Note it was placed in phone by MANAGER.. LOL!) .. the sim pattern on gold side of sim looks totally different than the gold contact side on old sim card (slow one!) Old Had several sections on the gold contact side, new one has FEW sections. Tmo national help desk verified i had new and correct sim card now. After it was swapped out at tmo, i called help desk back, and they said ".. looking at your phone i now see to have a 4g sim..." and he said its a VICC SIM..
Anyway phone is at least 4x faster on 4g.. i went from 1.2 mbps to 4.2 mbps while at store and with VICC sim... so for me it was the sim, i wouldnt have believed it myself if i had not see it myself on same phone at exact same spot with different sim cards...
Again if your internet is slow and it shows "H" check your sim card.
Again it was free to swap old sim for a new sim .. and it made a huge difference on my phone here in Hawaii.

Ya I don't know what I'm talking about last time I checked I was the network admin with 2years sIC in telemetry. Matter of fact I know one of the foremost authority in person with PBE as he manage and builds and consults for FCC. You going to teach me the HSPA+ Rv1? Do you even know how to modify the setting manually? Much less access it? Lol @ national desk center. H can mean anything as you can access the data via UTMS and HSDPA. Most problem happens as people like you keep taking it out for silly reasons like this as its delicate. Don't ever confuse defect with standard go find me 4G simcard for GSM.
PS: There is no such thing as VICC 4G SimCard, go find me technical doc for it.

Do I need to pop my old simcard and take some silly photo with actual network overhead which you can't access and show my point which is direct contradiction to your so called finding which is defect. Go post this in official TMo forum and see what happens lol also bring those national desk techs to join. This is just isolated how come it can't be replicated?

Dude, all he did was share an experience he had. He didn't tell anyone to go give money to tmo. He had an old card that wasn't working well for whatever reason and a replacement fixed the issue. Now if he said that then we wouldn't be having problem. But you have to understand that not everyone is registered in XDA as so many folks just browse web and come here from search. People who don't understand will read it and waste money on thing that haven't been even proven. Like I said it was defect which I can live with that's the beauty of forum if you start a thread lol then post some screenshots then try to push some miss information claiming its correct because some fools at desk center with CompITA certified said so then it has to be corrected. Btw who comes online for respect? You don't have to know me or like me but you will know the truth even when its little bitter. Without people like me they would have a blast at gimmick targeting users who don't know better.

I have a question about the pics you posted... From the time stamp the old card was tested after you tested the new card? Doesn't tmo cancel the old card to transfer your data to the new one? And you had a minute to power off, switch card, boot up and test again?

Not to mention that the old sim was done after the new one based on the times....
From my permarooted 1209mhz G2 with CM7 nightly 6
When I had tmobile change my sim card I had to give them the new sim number so they would disable old one and enable new one. That was instantaneous but.... One minute to replace card, retest....?

Fact: "4G sim cards" are a gimmick..for now at least.
Fact: Older sim cards have had several documented issues with slower data and dropped/missed calls. Why else do you think it is *recommended* to change to the newer versions?
Fact: T-Mobile does NOT charge for a sim swap. However, they do charge (in-store) if you're requesting a new one and don't have the old one with you.
As for the pictures though, I'm gonna call them bogus. I just felt that some things needed subtle clarity without being a douchebag.

Read the whole thread you will understand it.
1) Original SIM defected.
2) Old SIM deactivated when new activated.
Don't forget explanation means nothing as we want results which means under same condition everyone should be able to replicate it. Then only then can it be called facts as its applicable proven.

Now taking it that since we are using HSPA+ Rv1 the limit is 21mbps which is throttled to 14mbps on MT4G and TMo close to 7mbps now as you can see half of that mostly used on UTMS/HSDPA. Now far as the unlimited connection goes as we are aware of that as I stated but far as provisioning faster tier goes it subjective. As this has been discussed in the past with little to no result.

Is there a possibility that this could be explained by an old and worn-out card as opposed to technical differences?

you guys do realize that ATT is marketing their 4G, when its actually only HSPA+?
also, you seem to think that the SIM card is going to need to be changed for '4G' speeds? why? the only thing that needs to change for '4G' is the hardware has to support it.
SIMS cards do need to be changed from time to time because of types of services or network upgrades.
Older SIM cards may still work but that doesnt mean you will always get full network/sevice potential.
There is good reading outside of XDA about this if you search a little, and ignore the junk search results

What's this then:
http://www.bgr.com/2010/10/21/att-starts-switching-to-lte-compatible-sim-cards/
Cingular changed their UICC profile (SIM) in 2005 when they introduced ISIM and USIM profiles to support 3G. Now to support LTE, they've introduced... wait for it... a new SIM! OMG!!!!
BTW, LTE unlike HSPA+ uses a totally different core called EPC and thus has a different APN and several other new profile settings.
BTW, BTW, APN is typically a device driven setting and NOT a UICC setting. There's a difference.

Samsug Infuse Sim Card Problem/Compatibility

So I just got my Samsubg Infuse however when I switched the sim card from my Atrix to the Infuse the Infuse could not read my sim card...I get the "Sim Card Not Installed"message. So I went to 1 AT&T retail store and 1 AT&T device support store to have them switch out my sim card and after THREE new sim cards NOTHING (keep in mind these are all the "newer" sim cards AT&T gives out with no design on the front)...I keep getting the same message.
SO I tried an OLDER sim card I had sitting around (the "OLDER" version with the "3G" symbol on the front) and it indeed did read it. So what I did was call AT&T and had them switch my account to the "older version" sim card I had an VOILA everything works...so i thought stranger...such a new phone but it would not work with the newer sim cards AT&T store gives out....
So I talked to Samsung directly and told them that I think I had a defective device...they said NO because it reads my older sim card and I went on and on about how the only sim cards AT&T issue are the newer ones...they said they will open a ticket blah blah blah...Im hoping I can get a new device because if I ever had to sell this out or need a new sim card I'll be SCREWED....
But I was wondering what sim cards are you guys using...the newer AT&T one or the older "3G" one...plus does anybody know of anything I can try...
I tried resetting the APN, hard reset, soft reset, battery pull etc etc...but nothing...
Using the new one without the design on the front. No problems here sorry... I would say your device is faulty

MT4GS on AT&T

What do folks know about the MT4GS on the AT&T network? I used the Sensation exploit to sim unlock the phone. Got the code, entered it and it says network unlock successful but I can't get it to connect to the AT&T network once I insert the AT&T sim. I attempted to add the AT&T apn settings to the MT4GS but they won't save. I have a network unlocked MT4GS and an AT&T sim card.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Is your sim card activated? And have the proper data plan?
You need to go to the att store and have it activated and then have the towers updated.
Thats what my brother in law just told me who works at att. He said you can call them as well.
I actually have an att sim he gave me thats active, but needs to be paid, so i couldnt test it. I used it to unlock the phone.

Love you all are weighing in so quickly to help me think about this problem. XDA really is the best. I've tried all the things suggested and still no luck. I just had a thought that I'd like to run by you all. The phone is 4g. Do I need a 4g sim card from AT&T? The sim card is active. It's moving from an unlocked T-Mobile Vibrant to this unlocked T-Mobile MT4GS. So I know that the sim card works and can be used in an off-network device. But I don't know much about 3g/4g and sim cards. The current plan is 3g data on AT&T.
The problem is that the MT4GS behaves as if the sim isn't even there. I can put in a Simple Mobile sim and it fires right up. I can put the AT&T sim back into the Vibrant and it works right away. So how do plans work with sim cards?
If it is a 3g plan will the MT4GS not even see the sim card?
You guys rock.
It could be. make sure the sim is in right way and it isnt badly damaged. Since simple mobile works it leads me to think the sim is having an issue of some sort.
I would try getting a new sim from att with a 4g plan, see if that works. If im not mistaken, theyre free, if you get a paid plan.

After you enter the new AT&T APN settings make sure you hit the menu key to actually save the APN settings. Just hitting the back button well NOT save the settings at all. I'm using the MT4GS with my AT&T account and everything works great. Although you well NOT get 4g or even 3g, you well get 2g.

The issue was Cyanogenmod. I don't know why or how but once I flashed Bulletproof 1.1 it took the AT&T sim fine. I reflashed CM in order to verify and it wouldn't take the sim again. I don't know. After flashing Bulletproof 1.1, I used the Tweakker app (an app I wish could be included in every rom) to get my AT&T APN settings and everything worked from there. Thanks everyone for the troubleshooting help. I don't know why it seems to have issues with our CM rom and the AT&T sim card.
The phone is, as we all know, limited to the edge network while on AT&T. Thanks peeps.

[Q] rooted with custom rom cant activate to new number

I left sprint recently sold my phone with it rooted and and a patched ota rom on it. The guy went to get it activated and they couldn't get it done, said it was freezing up, sprint rep knew it was rooted, and said it needs to be back to stock unrooted???? Is this true? Anybody know?
Any time you take your phone to sprint ALWAYS UNROOT. They can tag the account. You should of unrooted before selling the phone

They were probably trying to get into the Activation Menu in ESPT. If they could not get it to work, that would be a clue that the phone was Rooted. But as mentioned in the post above. As a Rule of Thumb, never sell a phone Rooted. Also never take a phone into a Sprint store for any type of Tech work if it's Rooted. They can and most times do Flag the account. Not what you want. After that any phone issues you run into they may try to claim it's because your device is rooted.
Thanks I put it back to stock.
I didn't realize a rooted phone would not allow you to get into the "Activation Menu in ESPT"
You can get more money some times for rooted phones, but i guess not with Sprint. My bro sold a SGSII rooted for T-mobile for big bucks, but i guess with sim cards, it makes it easy.
Is the "Rule of Thumb" to return phones back to stock before selling for Sprint and Verizon phones only?
I'm sorry, I didn't properly explain. Rooting doesn't affect if you can get into ESPT or not. Rooted phones can still use ESPT without issue. But it does depend on the Rom on the phone. But yes as a " Rule of Thumb " , if the device is going to be Sold or taken in for service. No matter who the person, or carrier is it's always better if it's Unrooted.

Not to be rude but Verizon uses CDMA (like Sprint excluding Nextel products that use iDEN). Verizon phones domestically do not use sim cards. The only CDMA phones that use sim cards are dual mode international phones (the sim card is only used for GSM networks abroad). AT&T and T-mobile use sim cards domestically (GSM) so maybe one of those?

Thats not entirely true. LTE uses sim cards. Any Verizon phones with 4G will have a sim card.

Actually, from what I have read on the internet, Verizon LTE SIM cards are tied to activation of 3G CDMA on LTE equipped phones. I don't know how they did it, though. Also, I heard that Verizon LTE devices have the PRL loaded on the SIM card making it nearly impossible to flash a different PRL onto the phone. I even heard that Sprint is doing that with their LTE phones.
