Hi, I am new, and it seems I cannot post to the midNight ROM thread with this question.
I have a Epic and am somewhat new to installing ROM's on phones, but I am generally competent. Anyway...
After reading around a bit, I installed Clockwork Mod v2.5.5 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Then I installed Clockwork Mod v3.0.0.5 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897612
Next I installed the plain BYOR version of midNight v3.2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903984
At this point, the phone booted and appeared to work. I made and received a few texts and made a call.
Then, I attempted to add some of the extras to the midNight ROM, as described in the video. I added AOSP Lock Screen, all the ring tone packages, Gingerbread Keyboard, Google Apps, Sprint Voicemail, Voice Recorder, and Voice Search.
I installed this through CW3, but I neglected to reset any of the user data or caches.
After the install, the phone started. However, what appears to be happening is that Airplane mode is constantly being turned on and off, so I never get a connection and cannot make or receive calls or texts (also seems to devour the battery).
I've attempted re-installing both the plain BYOR midNight and my modified zip several times to no avail.
I can flash the stock ROM back on with Odin, and then everything works fine.
But if I try to install the plain BYOR midNight ROM at that point, I still end up with the cycling Airplane mode.
Any ideas what's going on? It definitely worked the first time, and when I go back to stock it works.
I have the same thing going on. Epic 4G, flashed to Midnight 3.3, seems to work, except that Airplane mode toggles rapidly, so I don't seem to ever connect to the network. Where the network indicator should be, I have a "no" symbol and when when you visit "Settings|Wireless and network", all of the options except "Tethering" and "VPN settings" are flickering rapidly.
Any pointers?
Did you guys ever wipe before flashing. Im not teLly sure this applys to android but try flashing with your radio on meaning airplane mode should be off.
My radio was definitely on when I began the process (not in airplane mode).
I wiped the following:
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced
.Wipe Dalvik Cache
.Wipe Battery Stats
Should that have been everything?
I have now gone through it a couple of times and the result is the same. No network, Airplane mode flickering.
Okay, I have now taken the phone back to a completely stock 2.1 and attempted the Midnight 3.3 flash, twice. Each time, I made sure it was completely operational and working well in 2.1, including having the radio on/not in airplane mode.
Each time, I have checked off the steps as I have gone, including the wipes, with the same results. What appears to be a good flash, but no radio/flickering in and out of airplane mode.
Has anyone got a copy of 3.2 laying around that I could try? I am pretty well set on this rom, but obviously the radio needs to work.
Thanks for any replies.
I spotted an interesting thread on another forum, but it won't let me post a link here.
It says:
In my case I think the problem was caused by trying to go from eclair to midnight rom. I'm guessing that midnight doesn't install any radios or modems and the eclair versions don't work with it.

And
You're right in the fact that it d/n install the dk28 modem, so you cannot go directly from di18.

Does that sound right? If so, what would the fix be?
Some additional information:
This also happens with the Bonsai ROM, so it's not specific to the Midnight ROM.
I AM able to get the phone in full airplane mode, at which point the flickering in and out of service stops.
Any suggestions from anyone? From the looks of it, I am blocked from installing custom roms on my phone, until I can figure out why it has no radio when they are installed.
Okay, I can't post in the main thread to ask how, but I spotted this buried in there:
To those with the "no network" issue all you need to do is odin the dk28 modem. That will fix it. This is a dk28 bug...

Could someone give me a pointer on where to find "the dk28 modem" for flashing? If so, maybe I can self heal.
Okay, I self healed.
I used Odin to install the DK28 modem and now I have full network. Thanks for letting me ask the questions here. If anyone digs up this thread and needs a hand with the same problem, just give a shout and I will try to return the favor by helping out.
Off to go enjoy my Midnight 3.3 Epic 4G

Can you do a quick outline on how you fixed your phone with odin? I am having the same problem you had. Thx.

Sure thing.
Once I had a successful flash of Midnight 3.3, other than the radio not working, I chased down a package that had the following in it:
Odin3+v1.61.exe
victory_8G_100528.pit
modem.tar
With the phone off, I held down the "1" on the physical keyboard and powered it up.
That puts the phone in "Dowload" mode, with a distinctive screen.
At that point, I plugged in the phone to the computer via USB and waited for it to be detected.
Once Odin showed that it saw the phone, I loaded the .pit file into the PIT dialog in Odin and the tar file into the PDA area.
Once I pressed "Start", it took about two-minutes and showed a successful status, then the phone rebooted and all was well.
You might have to search a bit to find the files, but once I knew what I was looking for, it only took a couple of searches to find them.
Good luck!

**DISCLAIMER** I am not responsible for any of this. Use at your own risk.
requires something to extract rar files, if you dont have something, you prolly shouldnt be doing this to begin with.
To start. props to whoever posted the link im using. im not taking any credit for anything here, other then the fact that it works for me everytime ive tried it.
First. Your going to want to flash back to stock using these links/files
DI18 Update
http://www.multiupload.com/X9AB1U56JV
not my link.
You will need to download ODIN and the PIT.
ODIN: http://www.mediafire.com/?yvgukothbmj2d3g
PIT: http://www.mediafire.com/?yawtcgt8xpg39j9
follow these instructions:
1. Open odin 1.3. I did not use 1.61 for stock flashing.. i only used it when i tested the 2.2 stock rar.
2. Select the s1_odin_20100512.pit on the right in the pit section
3. In the PDA Section, place \\Epic Root\2.1 Files\SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar.md5
not the rar. if all you have is the rar then it should work but i dont have a copy of the rar, only this file so dont quote me
make sure that only eng debug and auto reboot are checked.
4. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold 1 on the keyboard while powering up) make sure it is not connected to a charger or your computer
5. connect phone (you should see odin put a COM 3 show up in yellow..) or something like that in the first box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it)
6. Hit start. It will do its thing. Doesn't take long you can see the progress bar. If it sits on File Analysis for longer than 30 seconds its not going to happen. I just pull the battery, unplug the phone, restart odin, connect the phone and try again. 2nd times the charm!!

once you are done, let the phone completely boot. Test your GPS just for the sake of doing so
##YOUR PHONE IS NO LONGER ROOTED!
now its time for 2.2
Download the update zip: http://www.mediafire.com/?j5ycbppzdrd3b2d
Place it into your SD cards Root folder (for those who dont know, just drag it to the SD card and drop it, your main directory is your root), boot into stock recovery via the clockwork method (power, volume down, camera button)
apply the update zip.
let the phone boot completely.

Test your GPS, if that doesnt work, try again. I have had this work for me several times already. And I can flash between roms amd still have no modem issues. I am currently running Viper Rom 3.1
If your GPS works, your good to go. The first time I ever did this it took a few minutes before the GPS kicked in but that could have been because of where I was in my house.. Tho ever since then it picks it up within seconds so im not sure if that was a fluke.
hope this helps
Odin and PIT links in your post go to the same file...
Thank you very much! GPS works perfect now!!
Thank you very much!!! All is working great now.

fixed. sorry abt that. was at work posting this lol..
Your fix works. Awesome.
What if I'm already on a custom rom and I want to restore my data after all the ODIN? Would this break the gps again?
I guess it's time I contributed. After following kalico17's steps, I'm on a stock 2.2 unrooted phone, my next steps are:
1. Install clockwork recovery mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
2. Boot into Clockwork recovery, wiped data 3x, cache3x, dalvik cache 3x, flashed my favorite rom.
3. Booted into custom rom, checked GPS still works
4. Reboot into Clockwork recovery, restored my data using advanced restore, flashed rom over it again(recommended by rom author), reboot
5. Booted into custom rom, checked GPS still works
6. Sit back and relax finally knowing my exact location(accurate to 2 meters) on earth.
What else is needed?
Post #1 does not mention the "Galaxy S Drivers". Am I suppose to install these on my Vista laptop before doing the steps listed in post #1?
I have connected my phone (with DK28 but unrooted) to my computer several times so does that mean I have the drivers already on my PC? I normally do the "open device to view files" option when I connect my phone via USB.
TIA,
tsp
let me be the first dumb-a$$ to post it. i was being wicked dumb trying to use the main guides way while adding little things of mine to speed up my getting it done faster....not guna lie, if you dont follow it as it says, your going to want to throw the epic. thanks, too bad this ruined my day at knotts. an app i was trying out wont let you use it unless the gps works, same with gas buddy. like you can use it, but you cant update stuff....just a complaint.(feeling sick)

Best way is 2 see if odin recognizes ur phone. Boot into download mode, plug ur phone in and if it doesn't see it, you'll need em.

Using a back up program? Not sure. I haven't been using em with 2.2 roms because of fcs.. I reinstall everything and reset it back up when needed... I don't see y it would tho.
I actually just took these step to flash the new viper rom, I went back 2 stock a few days ago lol.. gps is working perfectly.

GPS lock back after weeks!!!
Still wasn't getting a GPS lock on my phone simply using the steps posted in the initial post (outdoors with clear skies or indoors after about 5 minutes of trying each).
This method didn't work UNTIL I went into the stock recovery (Vol Down + Camera + Power) *after flashing DI18 COMPLETE tar file with Odin3 v1.0 and PIT files provided above* and wiped data/factory rest and wiped cache partition. (wiped each 3 times, fyi.)
Now I am getting a GPS lock within 5 seconds outdoors and 12 seconds indoors with DI18 (Both done by rebooting the phone, allowing it to fully load and jumping straight into Google Maps).
Thanks for the Odin and PIT files.
I will report back later with my results for the stock DK28 update and then Epic Experience 2.0.05
Thanks to the OP. My GPS is working great now
Used the "update.zip" file provided above to update from DI18 to DK28 and GPS is still fully functional. GPS locked in about 2-3 seconds after fresh reboot.
Again...thanks for this!
2.2 update link is broken

I think all the issues came from those that used the DK17 modem...thats when mine did.
I am hoping that someone can help me diagnose what the hell is up with my phone.
Here's what I've noticed so far:
1. Lost root access
2. Cannot install market apps. Although if it is an API I have previously downloaded I can install that.
3. Cannot access any wifi. I can detect the networks, but I can't connect. It either stays at 'obtaining IP address' or after a while the list of available networks will display 'disabled' next to the network I tried to connect to.
3. Lots of force closes. Especially Maps and navigation.
4. The Quick Boot app launches, but if I select Reboot, Recovery and Power it does nothing. If I select the Hot Boot it works. (I've actually had other apps that did similiar but what particular ones escapes me. Want to say they were apps that would need root.
5. Other random unusual things (phone freezing, displaying just the status bar, rotating to landscape and not going back to portrait until I power down, etc.)
What I recall doing in the few days prior to realizing something was wrong:
1. Flashed new Beta 3 of CWM.
2. Flashed the newest Bali kernel.
3. Via Odin switch from kc1 to the whitehawx kd1 stock deodexed Tom
4. Flashed the gingerbread them for kd1 in the SGS4G Themes forum (Not sure that took since the appearance of phone didn't look any different.
5. Flashed the battery mod in same forum that goes with the gb theme.
What I've tried to fix it:
1. Boot to CWM and cleared dalvik cache and did the 'Fix Permissions' option.
2. Removed a lot of junk apps or anything that didn't come from a publisher I trust.
3. Tried to regain root with superoneclick v 1.7. This was not successful. Superoneclick would give a message about Error 22 and them freeze when it would get to 'running rageagainstthecage'. Verified that the rageagainstthecage file is in the same folder as the superoneclick.exe
That's it. I can always wipe the phone and start from scratch back at stock, but that's a hassle. Would like to avoid if someone knows any troubleshooting to try prior to going that route.
Thanks in advance for any ideas or help offered.
personally i am really happy running KC1 deodexed and now with the bali kernel uv version with no overclock the device is super snappy and responsive. Also since adjusting to the kernel my phone is getting like 30% better batt. life! (thank u drhonk!) When i was running KD1 deodexed i was getting alot of soft reboots and freeezes and when i applied the GB theme i started having more problems like u minus the loss of root. Also to see the full GB effect u need to do the full corse of applications including the GB launcher off the market. Everyone has their beefs with KC1 because unlike KD1 it was not released it was leaked. I have had no problems with KC1 and with the lockscreen/power menu mod u can eliminate the use of booting apps. It mods your power menu so u can reboot, reboot into recovery, and reboot into download mode! I would odin or CWM to a fresh rom and start over. Sucks i know i have had my issues too!!!!!!!!!

If you flashed v5.01(iirc) Thats your problem. It's happening to several people, including myself. RE Odin KD1, then flash v6.0 of the GB theme, you will be up and running again.
Update: The priblem appears to be getting worse. Yesterday evening the phone kept freezing or just straight up turning off. No power down animation or anything. Just one and playing Paper Jet then poof black screen. If I was charging when that happened it would then show the charging animation when your phone is off with a warning symbol that the battery was above operating tempurature. Plus, in the time it took me to type this my battery went from 100 to 89 percent (and keeps changing the battery icon on the status bar from showing the battery as a circle le w/ percent to just showing the battery icon with a color filled to show life remaining
Oh well. Guess that,s life. I'll try to re-Odin kd1 and then the TB theme 6.0. If that doesn't work I'll start over with a full wipe because I imagine that most of you are like me and live with this phone in your hands.
Odin kd1 again reflash any mods, should be fine.

Okay, I'm basically going to just copy and paste my issue and edits here from the Zeus thread I couldn't get any help on. The edits are so anyone who actually read this can see what I did and have been doing so they don't suggest something I already did.
So the other day, I tried to flash to the Doctorz ROM and of course, made a Nandroid backup. After messing with Doctorz, I went back to Nandroid or clockwork recovery (whatever it is) and after restoring, I was on another modem and stock kernel. I tried to reflash Zeus and wiped partitions cache and dalvik cache and now I'm having serious issues. I have my SIM card in my phone, but it keeps telling me I don't even though it's there. Even weirder, I have one or two bars even after I pull out the SIM card. Earlier, it was detecting that I had a SIM card, but said "Invalid SIM card" or something and now whether it's there or not, my phone says it has one or two bars even though I can't do anything. What's going on??
I've tried rebooting several times and activated Wifi and airplane mode, but had no luck. SIM card's in right now, but my phone says no service.
EDIT: Forget it. I just did a factory restore and wiped everything and reflashed Zeus.
EDIT 2: Okay now I'm having other issues. My phone recognizes my SIM card again and now I'm getting my normal signal, but I can't do anything wirelessly, like send a text or use up data. It SAYS I have signal and am connected to the HSPA+ network and the arrows are flashing and whatnot, but I can't do anything wireless. I can't go into the market, send a text or use the internet browser. Someone please help?
EDIT 3: Okay, I was wrong on that last part. My texts weren't going through because of bad signal, but I definitely have no data AT ALL. All I have are a few bars, but nothing about 3g/EDGE/HSPA+. I think this is an issue with APN settings?
EDIT 4: Messed with some APN settings... kinda back to square one, where the H+ shows up and I get Edge sometimes (I have bad signal where I'm at) and the arrows are flashing, but NOTHING. I still can't use the market or any data at all.
EDIT 5: I just decided I'd try to be next to my router and turned on Wifi... my phone would not pick up a signal from my router at all, and it works just fine. I'm starting to think this is a modem-related issue...
EDIT 6: Okay, I kinda fixed the problem, but my data speeds are SUPER SLOW and sending one message takes a really long time. I know I have bad signal, but it's never been this slow, even when I manage to pull up two or three bars. I tried messing with build.prop, but as I'm on Zeus, the settings were already fixed up.
EDIT 7: Okay, the Wifi issue was because I used the wrong WEP key. Oops. After I managed to connect though, I couldn't get any data. My phone just doesn't want to use up any data apparently? I reflashed the modem Zeus normally uses and now if I manage to get some data, it's unbelievably slow and can't use Wifi data.
EDIT 8: I forgot to mention that if I don't get to connect somewhere with data, my phone will just tell me there's no data connection or whatever even though I have two bars. I tried to fix permissions and rebooted, but no luck.
Someone please help. This is really annoying.

Yeah, that's all I could come up with. Thanks anyway. I did that a few minutes ago and flashed Zeus. I'm just waiting for my phone to load up. I tried to let it load up, but it kept saying not enough data on the partition or something. I probably shouldn't have tried to flash Zeus immediately after flashing back to stock. After I went to CWM from flashing to stock, I immediately tried to flash to Zeus, but had issues. I'll take the blame for trying to rush and take shortcuts. I'll see how this goes again though.
Okay, after flashing back to stock with Odin, my phone loads up and does the "Rethink possible" thing when you turn it on and after that, nothing happens. The screen just stays off. If I press the power button, nothing happens, but if I hold it, it just reboots and goes back off. This is just annoying...
EDIT: Okay, it worked the second time. I have no idea why as I did nothing different, but it works. Now I'm gonna try to flash Zeus again.

Faint,
I got lost trying to understand what you were trying to ask.
Gtg unbrick is prob the best option.
It's usually best to describe the system, setup, the bug and the attempt.
Then pose the bottom line question.

Well what I was asking originally was how I can fix the problem I was having, but flashing back to stock via Odin helped. Now I'm having ANOTHER issue... after FINALLY having fixed up everything, I tried to restore some stuff with Tibu, but then my phone started saying a bunch of processes were force closing or something, so I tried to reboot and now I think I'm bootlooping. I'm stuck at the "The Collective" thing that shows up when you boot up your phone and it doesn't do anything. It'll go and do what it normaly does, go black and start up again, then come to a complete stop and repeat the process. I then went to CWM and tried to wipe factory settings, cache and dalvik cache, but I'm still having this issue. Geez, it's one problem after another, and all I wanted to do was restore my apps. On the bright side, I DO KNOW flashing from Odin helped because once I regained control of my phone at the way it should be normally, I had my normal data speeds and didn't have issues with data. I'm going to try to fix this bootlooping issue now. :|
EDIT: Escaped the bootloop(?). Thank God... I honestly thought I'd have to flash back to stock with ODIN AGAIN and then redo everything.
Hey, so another question... before I flashed to stock and everything, I backed up all of my apps with TiBU, but now I can't find them; the restore file(s?) so I can get all of my apps and their data back. Was it saved to the internal SD card? Because I formatted that after backing up...
EDIT: Never mind. I looked around my SD card and... ugh. All my apps are gone and so are my backup files for the apps. Great. Thanks anyway, you two.

After you odin or heimdall a stock package, and flash a new ROM, don't restore tibu or apps. Download new.
Occasionally they get corrupted and cause you phone to soft boot

One more thing to add on to the TiBu thing, when you restored your apps what option did you use? If your restoring the batch options only select "missing apps with data.". Any other option and you run the risk of getting constant FC's.

That's why every time I flash a new Rom, I always never back up anything. I rather start from scratch and go from there. This I know for sure I wont have any issues.

I have found this to be the best for me also, new ROM...fresh install of all apps...so easy when you have the apk's, I just put them in a folder, then to my sd and install away and if I need to update I look that app via the market and update that way, or via the desktop pc thru the market online.
I found this site very useful has all my apps I need/require:

^Yeah I didn't use that option because it had a zero and didn't let me do anything, so I tried another option. I can't remember which one, but yeah I did get constant FC's.

Yeah, it seems that's the best way to go. Even though I backed it up with CWM, I didn't expect it to not backup the kernel and modem. I realized the kernel part a lot sooner, but after having a lot of texts that didn't go through the way they normally would, I thought it was an issue with my phone and then I decided I'd check the modem and found out I didn't have the KL2 modem I'd normally have.

Well I already had everything figured out by the time everyone said something, but I appreciate the effort and tips nonetheless.
I'm fairly new to ROMs (this is my second). I have followed the instructions and successfully installed the ROM, modem, and update.
2 questions:
1) Wifi does not work (will not turn on). I had wifi problems on my last ROM. I have reinstalled this ROM numerous times today thinking something must have failed since wifi does not work. This seems to be unique to me since I can't find anything in the thread regarding wifi problems. Any suggestions?
I've gone so far as to use darkside superwipe as suggested in a different thread. Still can't get wifi to turn on (just sits with "Turning Wi-Fi on..." message on screen). Never errors out, just stays like that.
2) ROM Manager: Fix permissions fails. I get the following error when I select fix permissions: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" Any suggestions?
Thanks so much for the help!
You should post your question in the ROM thread. The developer (seanscreamz) or one of the other testers will see it and be able to address your problem and help you out.
I can't post in the Dev section yet. 6 more posts and I will ask there.
starting over...
Ok, I figured I might as well make sure that my wifi woes are not a hardware issue. I've reverted back to stock Skyrocket OS to make sure wifi is available and working in stock form.
Following this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348, I reverted to stock and I can confirm that wifi works in stock form.
I've also reformatted my sd card in case there is any chance a corruption on it would cause my problems.
Now going to reinstall SkyICS...

Are you on CWM touch?
have you went into the busybox app and clicked install?
wifi broken again
I have followed these instructions here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582 to regain root. After getting root, I installed ROM Manager and selected "Fix Permissions". On reboot, I lost the ability to connect via wifi.
Did I miss a step?
Thanks again for holding a n00b's hand!

You have to install busy box

john: I'm sure you mean well, but I don't know what your intent was with your posted link.
crazyD: digging your avatar. I'm currently trying to decide between a G26 and XD9sc...
btw, installed and ran busybox. not sure what it did for me. I also updated ROM manager to latest. Accidentally initiated a backup from ROM manager. Will see if wifi is back after that has completed.
Edit: wifi still errors, won't connect. I'm not clear what steps I may have missed or screwed up between being stock to rooted. I will revert back to stock again and try again...
Are you running juice defender? Its giving me problems with my wifi connection!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
I'm not running Juice Defender. At this point, I'm trying to revert back to stock form again with working wifi.
Edit: ok, reverted back to stock by doing the following
1) reboot into CWM recovery
2) factory reset x3
3) clear cache x3
4) format system x3
5) clear dalvik x3
6) format emmc x3
7) restart and pull battery
8) boot into download mode
9) push stock tar (k0kane) via Odin3 v1.85
I now have wifi again!
So now I get to try to get back to SU and CWM without losing wifi...wish me luck.
still have wifi!
OK, rooted and CWM installed. I still have wifi, which is good. I'm afraid to select 'Fix Permissions' for fear that will break my wifi.
I'm going to install Sky ICS now and see what happens.
sky ics and wifi!
OK, It took a few attempts, but I now have SKY ICS installed and wifi is still working.
I've installed the base ROM and the modem...not the updated yet. My download speeds are terrible, but at least I have wifi. I think the data speeds get better on the update.
Sean's instructions say to let the phone "cache and settle". I have no idea what that means...so will try to wait 10 minutes or so before installing the update.

My uneducated guess with the data speeds is the modem for UCLE2. I haven't had the chance to go to LTE on SKYICS yet, but data is definitely slower on "4g" networks.

quick update
Here is a quick update:
I spent some time redownloading all my apps and in general setting up the phone. I then ran the SKY-ICS update. Everything seemed to be working great.
As an added bonus, the email app in SKY-ICS syncs with my employer's exchange server! Which is so awesome. The stock ROM, and the last gingerbread ROM I had on the Skyrocket would not connect to our exchange server. I was very pleasantly surprised by that functionality.
I then lost wifi again. Wifi seems to be unpredictable and I'm not sure if it is hardware or software related. I again have wifi this morning, but didn't for the last two days. Also, my phone won't restart, it appears to get stuck in a powerdown state. The haptic buttons stay lit, but the screen is blank. I have to pull the battery to get it to restart.
But overall, I'm very happy with the performance and functionality of SKY-ICS. I will do some digging on the restart problem.
Geez...I'm really tired of posting these newb questions...feel free to ignore.
After being on 7.2.0 for a while, I noticed that Bluetooth is not turning on...not a major issue since I use it so rarely...still, it's bugging me.
I've searched and tried the following:
1. Cleared dalvik, fix permissions, & reboot.
2. Holding down the "turn on Bluetooth" button and immediately rebooting.
3. Trying out all 3 padded modems suggested for this ROM
I have NOT tried reflashing the ROM or going back to stock and reflashing from there...I guess it's possible that a file or driver got left behind when I flashed from GB to CM7.2.0.
Other than the bluetooth issue, everything is working that's supposed to be working.
Any suggestions would be appreciated...as usual, thanks.
There are some bugs for CM7, that may be one of them. I REALLY doubt that a file got left back, but there no point in not trying to reflash.

Solved...I one-clicked back to stock, booted into recovery, did all the wipes, & reflashed. Bluetooth working fine and quickly paired with my device. I still have no idea what I did wrong the first time.

Sometimes things just go wonky. Like on a PC, drivers control the devices on the phone as well, as if you're had a driver go bad where your network quit working or any USB devices on a PC, the same thing is possible on a phone.
