[guide] my gps fix for 2.2 - Epic 4G Android Development

**DISCLAIMER** I am not responsible for any of this. Use at your own risk.
requires something to extract rar files, if you dont have something, you prolly shouldnt be doing this to begin with.
To start. props to whoever posted the link im using. im not taking any credit for anything here, other then the fact that it works for me everytime ive tried it.
First. Your going to want to flash back to stock using these links/files
DI18 Update
http://www.multiupload.com/X9AB1U56JV
not my link.
You will need to download ODIN and the PIT.
ODIN: http://www.mediafire.com/?yvgukothbmj2d3g
PIT: http://www.mediafire.com/?yawtcgt8xpg39j9
follow these instructions:
1. Open odin 1.3. I did not use 1.61 for stock flashing.. i only used it when i tested the 2.2 stock rar.
2. Select the s1_odin_20100512.pit on the right in the pit section
3. In the PDA Section, place \\Epic Root\2.1 Files\SPH-D700-DI18-8Gb-REL.tar.md5
not the rar. if all you have is the rar then it should work but i dont have a copy of the rar, only this file so dont quote me
make sure that only eng debug and auto reboot are checked.
4. Put your phone in download mode (Shut it off, wait for lights to all go out, then hold 1 on the keyboard while powering up) make sure it is not connected to a charger or your computer
5. connect phone (you should see odin put a COM 3 show up in yellow..) or something like that in the first box. The actual number is NOT important what is important is something popped up there when you connected your device, meaning ODIN can see it)
6. Hit start. It will do its thing. Doesn't take long you can see the progress bar. If it sits on File Analysis for longer than 30 seconds its not going to happen. I just pull the battery, unplug the phone, restart odin, connect the phone and try again. 2nd times the charm!!
Click to collapse
once you are done, let the phone completely boot. Test your GPS just for the sake of doing so
##YOUR PHONE IS NO LONGER ROOTED!
now its time for 2.2
Download the update zip: http://www.mediafire.com/?j5ycbppzdrd3b2d
Place it into your SD cards Root folder (for those who dont know, just drag it to the SD card and drop it, your main directory is your root), boot into stock recovery via the clockwork method (power, volume down, camera button)
apply the update zip.
let the phone boot completely.
Click to collapse
Test your GPS, if that doesnt work, try again. I have had this work for me several times already. And I can flash between roms amd still have no modem issues. I am currently running Viper Rom 3.1
If your GPS works, your good to go. The first time I ever did this it took a few minutes before the GPS kicked in but that could have been because of where I was in my house.. Tho ever since then it picks it up within seconds so im not sure if that was a fluke.
hope this helps

Odin and PIT links in your post go to the same file...

Thank you very much! GPS works perfect now!!
Thank you very much!!! All is working great now.

fixed. sorry abt that. was at work posting this lol..

Your fix works. Awesome.

What if I'm already on a custom rom and I want to restore my data after all the ODIN? Would this break the gps again?

I guess it's time I contributed. After following kalico17's steps, I'm on a stock 2.2 unrooted phone, my next steps are:
1. Install clockwork recovery mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
2. Boot into Clockwork recovery, wiped data 3x, cache3x, dalvik cache 3x, flashed my favorite rom.
3. Booted into custom rom, checked GPS still works
4. Reboot into Clockwork recovery, restored my data using advanced restore, flashed rom over it again(recommended by rom author), reboot
5. Booted into custom rom, checked GPS still works
6. Sit back and relax finally knowing my exact location(accurate to 2 meters) on earth.

What else is needed?
Post #1 does not mention the "Galaxy S Drivers". Am I suppose to install these on my Vista laptop before doing the steps listed in post #1?
I have connected my phone (with DK28 but unrooted) to my computer several times so does that mean I have the drivers already on my PC? I normally do the "open device to view files" option when I connect my phone via USB.
TIA,
tsp

let me be the first dumb-a$$ to post it. i was being wicked dumb trying to use the main guides way while adding little things of mine to speed up my getting it done faster....not guna lie, if you dont follow it as it says, your going to want to throw the epic. thanks, too bad this ruined my day at knotts. an app i was trying out wont let you use it unless the gps works, same with gas buddy. like you can use it, but you cant update stuff....just a complaint.(feeling sick)

Best way is 2 see if odin recognizes ur phone. Boot into download mode, plug ur phone in and if it doesn't see it, you'll need em.

Using a back up program? Not sure. I haven't been using em with 2.2 roms because of fcs.. I reinstall everything and reset it back up when needed... I don't see y it would tho.
I actually just took these step to flash the new viper rom, I went back 2 stock a few days ago lol.. gps is working perfectly.

GPS lock back after weeks!!!
Still wasn't getting a GPS lock on my phone simply using the steps posted in the initial post (outdoors with clear skies or indoors after about 5 minutes of trying each).
This method didn't work UNTIL I went into the stock recovery (Vol Down + Camera + Power) *after flashing DI18 COMPLETE tar file with Odin3 v1.0 and PIT files provided above* and wiped data/factory rest and wiped cache partition. (wiped each 3 times, fyi.)
Now I am getting a GPS lock within 5 seconds outdoors and 12 seconds indoors with DI18 (Both done by rebooting the phone, allowing it to fully load and jumping straight into Google Maps).
Thanks for the Odin and PIT files.
I will report back later with my results for the stock DK28 update and then Epic Experience 2.0.05

Thanks to the OP. My GPS is working great now

Used the "update.zip" file provided above to update from DI18 to DK28 and GPS is still fully functional. GPS locked in about 2-3 seconds after fresh reboot.
Again...thanks for this!

2.2 update link is broken

Did this last night and worked first time lol got gps back after losing it for a monhish

glad to see this is working for everyone..

Problem with Airplane Mode on Epic after installing midNight ROM

Hi, I am new, and it seems I cannot post to the midNight ROM thread with this question.
I have a Epic and am somewhat new to installing ROM's on phones, but I am generally competent. Anyway...
After reading around a bit, I installed Clockwork Mod v2.5.5 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770388
Then I installed Clockwork Mod v3.0.0.5 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897612
Next I installed the plain BYOR version of midNight v3.2 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903984
At this point, the phone booted and appeared to work. I made and received a few texts and made a call.
Then, I attempted to add some of the extras to the midNight ROM, as described in the video. I added AOSP Lock Screen, all the ring tone packages, Gingerbread Keyboard, Google Apps, Sprint Voicemail, Voice Recorder, and Voice Search.
I installed this through CW3, but I neglected to reset any of the user data or caches.
After the install, the phone started. However, what appears to be happening is that Airplane mode is constantly being turned on and off, so I never get a connection and cannot make or receive calls or texts (also seems to devour the battery).
I've attempted re-installing both the plain BYOR midNight and my modified zip several times to no avail.
I can flash the stock ROM back on with Odin, and then everything works fine.
But if I try to install the plain BYOR midNight ROM at that point, I still end up with the cycling Airplane mode.
Any ideas what's going on? It definitely worked the first time, and when I go back to stock it works.
I have the same thing going on. Epic 4G, flashed to Midnight 3.3, seems to work, except that Airplane mode toggles rapidly, so I don't seem to ever connect to the network. Where the network indicator should be, I have a "no" symbol and when when you visit "Settings|Wireless and network", all of the options except "Tethering" and "VPN settings" are flickering rapidly.
Any pointers?
Did you guys ever wipe before flashing. Im not teLly sure this applys to android but try flashing with your radio on meaning airplane mode should be off.
My radio was definitely on when I began the process (not in airplane mode).
I wiped the following:
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced
.Wipe Dalvik Cache
.Wipe Battery Stats
Should that have been everything?
I have now gone through it a couple of times and the result is the same. No network, Airplane mode flickering.
Okay, I have now taken the phone back to a completely stock 2.1 and attempted the Midnight 3.3 flash, twice. Each time, I made sure it was completely operational and working well in 2.1, including having the radio on/not in airplane mode.
Each time, I have checked off the steps as I have gone, including the wipes, with the same results. What appears to be a good flash, but no radio/flickering in and out of airplane mode.
Has anyone got a copy of 3.2 laying around that I could try? I am pretty well set on this rom, but obviously the radio needs to work.
Thanks for any replies.
I spotted an interesting thread on another forum, but it won't let me post a link here.
It says:
In my case I think the problem was caused by trying to go from eclair to midnight rom. I'm guessing that midnight doesn't install any radios or modems and the eclair versions don't work with it.

And
You're right in the fact that it d/n install the dk28 modem, so you cannot go directly from di18.
Click to collapse
Does that sound right? If so, what would the fix be?
Some additional information:
This also happens with the Bonsai ROM, so it's not specific to the Midnight ROM.
I AM able to get the phone in full airplane mode, at which point the flickering in and out of service stops.
Any suggestions from anyone? From the looks of it, I am blocked from installing custom roms on my phone, until I can figure out why it has no radio when they are installed.
Okay, I can't post in the main thread to ask how, but I spotted this buried in there:
To those with the "no network" issue all you need to do is odin the dk28 modem. That will fix it. This is a dk28 bug...

Could someone give me a pointer on where to find "the dk28 modem" for flashing? If so, maybe I can self heal.
Okay, I self healed.
I used Odin to install the DK28 modem and now I have full network. Thanks for letting me ask the questions here. If anyone digs up this thread and needs a hand with the same problem, just give a shout and I will try to return the favor by helping out.
Off to go enjoy my Midnight 3.3 Epic 4G

Sure thing.
Once I had a successful flash of Midnight 3.3, other than the radio not working, I chased down a package that had the following in it:
Odin3+v1.61.exe
victory_8G_100528.pit
modem.tar
With the phone off, I held down the "1" on the physical keyboard and powered it up.
That puts the phone in "Dowload" mode, with a distinctive screen.
At that point, I plugged in the phone to the computer via USB and waited for it to be detected.
Once Odin showed that it saw the phone, I loaded the .pit file into the PIT dialog in Odin and the tar file into the PDA area.
Once I pressed "Start", it took about two-minutes and showed a successful status, then the phone rebooted and all was well.
You might have to search a bit to find the files, but once I knew what I was looking for, it only took a couple of searches to find them.
Good luck!

Rooted - Now no 4g/3g/1x. What gives?

Ok, so I purchased my Thunderbolt yesterday, and of course, first thing's first. Root.
I am familiar with the OG Droid, and rooted it using the RSDLite method. I am also familiar with using ADB to push/pull files, as well as using apkmanager to modify apks, primarily for themeing purposes, but I do a little bit of XML editing, as well.
I am also familiar with my wife's HTC Incredible, and I have rooted it (Using the UnRevoked method) and flashed a few custom ROMs to it, as well.
I took on the manual rooting instructions for the Thunderbolt, and all went easy peasy, other than being a bit time consuming. I thought I had it all worked out, and was running Plain Jane (flashed using CWM Recovery) and with the recommended baseband/radio (flashed from hBoot).
But I noticed when I left my house (where I was using wi-fi the whole time) that I wasn't getting any 4g/3g/1x service whatsoever. I had cell signal, full bars in fact, but no data transfer.
So, I tried flashing a few different radios, and I just ended up flahing BAMF Sense 3.0 with the mr2 baseband update for gingerbread ROMs.
I still have the same problem. I get cell reception, but no data transfer. I can get momentary data if I tell the software to check for a software update. 3g pops up, it checks for an update, and when it is done, 3g goes away and I once again have absolutely no data transfer. Can't surf the web, or use any apk that requires data.
Anybody have any pointers? I have made sure that the mobile network option is checked in the settings. Aside from that, I have no clue where to begin.
Any help is greatly appreciated! TIA!
Only thing I can think of is the radio. I'm using the .627 radio from the inj3cttheory rom post in dev section.

Hi, and welcome to the tbot community!
a few quick questions,
prior to flashing did you check MD5 sums on both the radio and rom?
and did you delete the PG05IMG.zip file you flashed during the rooting process from your sdcard?
also this may sound like overkill but did you wipe everything (data/cache/dalvik/bat-stats) 3 times?
i would recommend re-downloading both the rom and the radio and check MD5 sums. then put them on your sdcard and make sure their is only one PG05IMG.zip on the root of the sdcard. this next stuff is important; connect phone to your computer and verify that adb recognizes your device. then reboot into recovery and wipe data/cache/dalvik/bat-stats 3 times each. and after that re-flash the rom first, let it do its thing as normal. after the rom is installed do not reboot just stay in recovery. at this time you need to use adb to reboot into the bootloader to flash the radio. after that just reboot like normal

Thanks for taking the time to write up your response.
To answer a few of your questions, I did check the MD5 for both the radio and the ROM, and found them both to match.
I did wipe thoroughly, at least 3 times, in fact I went so far as to go into the "Mounts" section of CWM Recovery, and I wiped everything (Data, Cache, System...) from there as well (save it be for the SDCard).
What I did NOT do, however, is ensure that the phone rebooted directly to the bootloader. Instead, I selected "reboot system now" from recovery, and just tried to catch the boot cycle to put it into the bootloader, but that failed.
I will re-wipe everything, and re-install the ROM, and this time I will make sure to reboot using adb directly into the bootloader and see how things go from there.
Thanks for the pointers. I will report back once I finish.
If that doesn't do it, I suppose I'll have to try some different radios...
EDIT: I also did delete the radio/baseband update from the SDCard after booting back up.
If that doesn't work it may be your SIM card. There have been reports where SIM cards randomly fail and data is unavailable. I don't think it has anything to with the rooting or flashing process that causes SIM failure. You may have to unroot to get SIM replacement though.
Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
OK, I went through the entire process over again, this time ensuring that I rebooted to the bootloader immediately after installing the ROM and letting it install the mr2 radio/baseband.
Results = no love.
Still no 4g/3g/1x.
I am now contemplating going completely back to stock to see if things work in stock form, and if they don't, then I suppose the sim card may be the issue.
OK, quick update. After little contemplation, I decided that reverting back to stock-unrooted was the most logical next step to take. I followed the steps outlined in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423
I only flashed the 1st file (PG05IMG_MR1_no_hboot.zip), and left the bootloader alone. So, as far as I understand, I still have an unlocked, s-off bootloader.
I now have data back.
My next question is, am I able to gain root on the software that is currently on the phone (1.13.605.7) without having to do any downgrades? Or are the exploits only functional on an older/downgraded build?
And my other question is, are there any ROMs in an RUU format that I can simply flash from my bootloader since it's still unlocked with s-off?
Success!
After reverting back to stock, I decided to attempt the rooting process again. Took the exact same steps as the first time, only this time I made sure I allowed the data connection to connect between each downgrade/upgrade/reboot before continuing on with the next step. I'm not sure if that's what made the difference, but it really is the only thing I changed. I didn't redownload any of the files. Simply used the same ones I used previously.
Anyway, I hope this thread serves as an aid to anyone else that might run into this issue.
Thanks for all the suggestions and help.
Congrats! Now get to flashing some awesome ROMs!

[ROM] SKYICS 4.2E-7 (ULCE2) 5/24/12: N00b Questions

I'm fairly new to ROMs (this is my second). I have followed the instructions and successfully installed the ROM, modem, and update.
2 questions:
1) Wifi does not work (will not turn on). I had wifi problems on my last ROM. I have reinstalled this ROM numerous times today thinking something must have failed since wifi does not work. This seems to be unique to me since I can't find anything in the thread regarding wifi problems. Any suggestions?
I've gone so far as to use darkside superwipe as suggested in a different thread. Still can't get wifi to turn on (just sits with "Turning Wi-Fi on..." message on screen). Never errors out, just stays like that.
2) ROM Manager: Fix permissions fails. I get the following error when I select fix permissions: "An error occurred while attempting to run privileged commands!" Any suggestions?
Thanks so much for the help!
You should post your question in the ROM thread. The developer (seanscreamz) or one of the other testers will see it and be able to address your problem and help you out.
I can't post in the Dev section yet. 6 more posts and I will ask there.
starting over...
Ok, I figured I might as well make sure that my wifi woes are not a hardware issue. I've reverted back to stock Skyrocket OS to make sure wifi is available and working in stock form.
Following this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348, I reverted to stock and I can confirm that wifi works in stock form.
I've also reformatted my sd card in case there is any chance a corruption on it would cause my problems.
Now going to reinstall SkyICS...

I'm not running Juice Defender. At this point, I'm trying to revert back to stock form again with working wifi.
Edit: ok, reverted back to stock by doing the following
1) reboot into CWM recovery
2) factory reset x3
3) clear cache x3
4) format system x3
5) clear dalvik x3
6) format emmc x3
7) restart and pull battery
8) boot into download mode
9) push stock tar (k0kane) via Odin3 v1.85
I now have wifi again!
So now I get to try to get back to SU and CWM without losing wifi...wish me luck.
still have wifi!
OK, rooted and CWM installed. I still have wifi, which is good. I'm afraid to select 'Fix Permissions' for fear that will break my wifi.
I'm going to install Sky ICS now and see what happens.
sky ics and wifi!
OK, It took a few attempts, but I now have SKY ICS installed and wifi is still working.
I've installed the base ROM and the modem...not the updated yet. My download speeds are terrible, but at least I have wifi. I think the data speeds get better on the update.
Sean's instructions say to let the phone "cache and settle". I have no idea what that means...so will try to wait 10 minutes or so before installing the update.

My uneducated guess with the data speeds is the modem for UCLE2. I haven't had the chance to go to LTE on SKYICS yet, but data is definitely slower on "4g" networks.

quick update
Here is a quick update:
I spent some time redownloading all my apps and in general setting up the phone. I then ran the SKY-ICS update. Everything seemed to be working great.
As an added bonus, the email app in SKY-ICS syncs with my employer's exchange server! Which is so awesome. The stock ROM, and the last gingerbread ROM I had on the Skyrocket would not connect to our exchange server. I was very pleasantly surprised by that functionality.
I then lost wifi again. Wifi seems to be unpredictable and I'm not sure if it is hardware or software related. I again have wifi this morning, but didn't for the last two days. Also, my phone won't restart, it appears to get stuck in a powerdown state. The haptic buttons stay lit, but the screen is blank. I have to pull the battery to get it to restart.
But overall, I'm very happy with the performance and functionality of SKY-ICS. I will do some digging on the restart problem.

Can someone please instruct me how to get GPS up and running again? I am on latest nightly and have tried various past builds. I installed the new modern, I have cleared the cache several times, dalvik and otherwise. I have even factory resetted several times. I use GPS allot because I work for FedEx. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I hope this will work for you. This worked for me. I don't pretend to understand all the details of what went wrong, but from what I understand there's a non-volatile (ie factory reset, reboot, etc won't fix it) privacy setting on the GPS which, when activated, basically breaks GPS. Samsung must have realized this was stupid too because the latest stock rom/modem doesn't mess with this setting anymore. Unfortunately, if it was set before you upgraded to the newest modem, that means your GPS is stuck in privacy, aka non-working mode (stupid because if you didn't want GPS you should just turn it off).
So what you need to do is backtrack to a combination of software that DOES mess with this setting. Once you are SURE GPS is working again, you can consider flashing the new stuff again (you may have to try more than once because there is absolutely no user control of the privacy setting, another stupidity in the system).
So
1. Flash either an older stock image (newer stock image contains the same privacy bug so you can't use that) or older cyanogenmod and modem. For stock, I recommend the original firmware released with the phone https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/103520801/T699UVALH1_T699TMBALH1_T699UVALH1_HOME.tar.rar
That is what fixed mine
You can try the following version of cyanogenmod + modem
http://goo.im/devs/nardholio/apexqtmo/cm-10.1-20130309-UNOFFICIAL-apexqtmo.zip
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/103520801/RelayLJ1modem.zip
2. Do a battery pull and wait a minute. Just to clear out anything that might be lingering.
3. Obtain a solid GPS fix. Install GPS Status and stand outside. If GPS doesn't come back at this point try the other route (cyanogenmod or stock)
4. Turn off GPS.
5. Battery pull, do not power off
6. Flash forward to cyanogenmod (build 111 or higher)/newer modem. You can try restoring your nandroid (at this point mine worked with a restored nandroid) but if GPS goes away again try with a fresh install.
7. If you obtained GPS on stock but cannot get GPS going in cyanogenmod try repeating again but replace step 4 with "do battery pull while you have a solid gps fix"
Thanks nardholio! It worked like a charm. Any chance we will ever see photosphere? If not it's no big deal. Just curious.

will try that when i get back from work...
Thanks for this tip Nard.
I did this.
1) Created a nandroid of my full wiped build 111 install/setup
2) full wipe install of 20130309 build
Got GPS to lock.
Turned GPS off.
Battery Pull.
3) Without wipe, nandroid restore of 111 build.
Reboot, GPS works.
Thanks again

took the files on the road with me and worked like a charm.. did:
-backup
-format data/system/cache
-install radio and cm provided by nardholio
-boot and installed a gps status.apk off the web since i was too lazy to setup my google account ^^
-INSTANT gps lock. kept it running a lil, then restarted the phone with gps still enabled.
-format data/system/cache
-restored backup
==> works like a charm
thx again

Sweet that fixed it right up. I did these steps, in this order:
1. Nandroid backup from CWM
2. (From CWM) Factroy reset and cleared cache, then flashed this file(rom): http://goo.im/devs/nardholio/apexqtm...L-apexqtmo.zip followed immeditatly by this one (cell radio) https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...ayLJ1modem.zip
3. Booted into cyanogenmod.
4. Downloaded and installed a recent googlemaps.apk
5. (Switched off wifi) Obtained a solid GPS fix
6. Turn off GPS.
7. Did a battery pull, did not power off just pulled the battery..waited 1 min and put the battery back in.
8. Booted into CWM recovery (by presssing Home, Volume Up and Power) and flashed the nightly build #137, immedetally flashed the MC5 Modem from this thread, and then after that finished immediately restored my nandroid backup.
GPS is working and my phone is still setup like it was an hour ago. PERFECT!
Thanks Nardholio :highfive:
though the reason was me misreading when i applied the fix, but i kept GPS ON. which actually - from a logic pov - is the thing that makes sense to me.
and it worked fine.
all you others switch it off once you've gotten a good gps fix.
and it works fine as well.
but it really raises the question what the real issue behind this problem is..
No "real reason" mr conspiracy theorist. Cycling the setting after getting a GPS fix makes sure its set the right way when you upgrade to the newest rom. Otherwise you don't know what state the chip has been left in

which makes it russian gps roulette
i guess, whatever works...
When you guys are saying GPS is broken - do you mean it doesn't work at all, or just takes a while to get a fix? Mine is slow to lock and the compass is off kilter, but eventually it will lock.
nah, it never locked. he just kept on searching for satelites forever.
The first lock after i went back to the latest build took a little but after that fft was like 5 seconds. and still is.
MIA on all files
Hi,
All of the original firmware files seem to be MIA. Does anyone have an alternative link to the original modem?
Thanks

Worked perfectly.
1. Backup CM11.
2. Wipe all partitions.
3. Flash CM10.1 and Modem.
4 Pull battery.
5 Boot CM and install Google Maps
6. Set GPS to device only and open G Maps
7. GPS WORKS!
8. Reboot to recovery (forgot to disable gps)
9. Wipe partitions and restore CM11 backup
10. GPS WORKS!
I am however on baseband T699UVLJ1 and I believe T699UVBMC5 is the latest one.
All seems to be working so I will leave it like this for a day and then update and test GPS again.
Flashed to the latest baseband again without any problems so far

After I managed to bollix up my GPS, I went through the steps with CM (the link to the stock rom is 404). I flashed the 10.1 gapps as well, and I used GPS Status instead of Maps, but I did manage to get GPS working again after restoring my backup. Thanks a bunch!
I must say, my Avant has a vastly better GPS than the Relay, but (for now) the Avant is completely stock/unrooted.

And why does it not work with a CM11 image?
I cannot find any CM10.1 image, links are dead! :/
----
Right, going back to CM10.2.1 and after that back to CM11 also worked.
Phone never booted in CM10.2.1 by the way... CM boot circle was going round and round for 15 minutes... Removed battery, tried to boot again, same thing. Went into recovery mode, luckily I still had a CM11 ROM zip on my phone. Installed it and works! Some Trebuchet error message popping up though and Google Play services crashing all the time.. Hmm we will see what can be done about that. Maybe because I used a July nightly.
Need help
I need serious help to fix my GPS. I want to follow the steps, but all the links are dead. So I have no idea how to obtain 10.1 or original stock firmware to fix gps.
Anyone can help with the files?

[Q] Lost Recovery Mode

Lost my recovery mode:
Was running ICS 4.2.2 / thought i would change things up for variety and elimination of bloatware and here i am.
I made the mistake of following a post from 2012 involving the following:
• Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G SGH-T769]
Download and install Odin3 1.85
Download the PIT file •
Download the TAR file of the stock firmware (UVLB7)
That was after i soft bricked the phone with this:
Before anything of course you'll need the files and here they are:
ClockWorkMod Recovery
Blaze Pit
Odin 1.8.5 Zip
SuperUser Zip
Then went here:
• Galaxy S Blaze 4G Kernel
• Blaze PIT file
• Odin 1.85
Now It's booting past start-up screen, then throwing errors at set-up of phone like: Sorry The process com.google.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please Try Again
Force Close?
Like i say, I have download mode , No Recovery.
Sure would like some input...:cyclops:
Have you tried to Odin back to stock?

Sorry, Replied with wrong button. Seems to be my problem alot lately!
The Answer is YES! I'm willing to try again and again. Not sure if this is health though.
Odin said it Passed and it did reboot. and get to the set-up screen of the factory firmware.
It's coughing when you begin the set-up. Almost moves to the next screen, then throws a warning it cant find something.
When flashing back to stock i used these files at the same time.
SGH-T769-UVLB7-hitsquad.tar
blaze.pit
But, it was flashed with clockwork file before it soft bricked.
When it was soft bricked it would go into the two modes, Recovery and download.
I was trying to reach recovery mainly to clear factory data?
I'm really not sure what should be the next step in a circumstance as this..

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Yes , I followed directions exactly. I am willing to try again though, and now that you mention it... I will.
Oden told me everything was Success. and the phone auto reboot as indicated in directions. Currently, it stalls at the setup saying error with
{ the application Google Services Framework (process com.google.prosses.gapps)) AND Calander Storage (process. com.android.providers.calendar)
has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again [force close]
and is stuck there constantly throwing the same errors.
Like is say, I'll run through the setup in post 155 again, and report what result's come next.
Thanks for the help
Lost recovery mode
UPDATE!
Thank's for advise again, i followed post 155 of the oden thread and the results are interesting.
I did regain temporarily Recovery Mode, Oden placed current samsung factory firmware
T769UVMB1_T769UVMB1_T769UVMB1_HOME.tar.md5
and set-up operated normally.
At That time, i decided to proceed with rooting the phone using
Clockwork Mod or Clockworkmod-Blaze-4G.tar
Passed and entered reboot
Then i placed
Superuser zip or Superuser-3.2-RC3-arm-signed.zip
on a freshly formatted external memory card and flashed it via the recovery mode.
Now the adventure has begun!
The device now goes to the set-up screen to begin set-up and throws errors:
' Unfortunately System Manager Application has stopped."
press ok and after a minute you reach the next screen
'set-up time and date'
press next and freeze
"Unfortunately System Manager Application has Stopped"
press ok and wait
' Unfortunately the process com. android . phone has stopped"
press ok and wait then back to
'Unfortunately System Manager Application has stopped"
press ok wait
'Unfortunately calendar storage has stopped'
and the errors continue...
Currently i'm stuck on the 'Make it Google' screen with those three errors popping up in cycle.
Something is telling me i may need to enter recovery mode and clear factory data or settings?
Not really sure what my next step should be..?
Anyhow, I thought i would update the post.
Thanks for all the insight. and post 155 did correct the issue.

Enter recovery and wipe factory data and cache if you're on stock recovery. if you're on custom I would suggest wiping cache and dalvik cache...
If you're on custom recovery and feel like trying out custom roms take a look in the development section, the blaze has had really great developers!
or maybe you want a stock feel but still want to explore... Then I'd suggest getting a "stock" rom (stock based rom, slightly modified usually removes all the T-Mobile and Samsung useless apps that just take up space, and these "stock" roms usually include a few tweaks here and there) from the development thread.
If you encounter any more problems I'm here to help.
One last thing if you are on custom recovery DO NOT wipe data unless you intend to flash a new rom. Wiping data will not fix your current problem it will only delete EVERYTHING, YES EVERYTHING off the phone with the exception of your recovery. ONLY WIPE data if you are on a stock recovery because that is equivalent to a factory reset.

UPDATE
You Are Correct!!
What was not explained on the Guide? Remove Battery and Wait!
For me. I was upset that my attempts failed and could not enter recovery mode so i decided to pull the battery and re-think my steps Overnight..
Next day (today) popped the battery in and went for recovery mode. 'result' BING! Came right up, no fuss, no retrying, it was like, Oh did you want this?
Now, Why it did that? I Dont Know!!
Ironically, as soon as it entered this mode I Cleared Factory Data and Cache, then reboot.
Problems? NONE! Entered setup no hiccups, full functionality. Calling, wifi, ect.
Now.. Where to go from here:
About Phone tells me
Model SGH-T769
Android Version 4.0.4
Baseband Version T769UVMB1
Kernel Version 3.0.8-perf-T769UVMB1 - CL990184
[email protected] #1

Build number IMM76D.MB1
Now, as far as Developers Options, It appears to have additional options, I dont recall what options were available prior.
Anyhow, that where i'm at now.

Yes, I believe there was a thread that mentioned a rooted phone and this App ____ (Memory fails me) would allow the user to freeze permissions? My other interest was a different feel? Iv'e owned the phone for couple of years, passed through a battery or two and have become slightly bored.
There is one feature about this phone i could never manage to operate correctly. and this might be information for another thread.
Near Field Communication NFC
I own a nexus 7 with NFC and the two devices have never clearly passed anything! Only once has my Nexus 7 received a photo from this phone.
I've tried many android market apps, I gave up on NFC and now tether and use Nexus Media Importer to transfer photos and other media.
Yes, if you remember what that app was to freeze permissions or remove bloatware, Let me know. Much Thanks for your time.
