Note that this guy's battery life apparently went from pretty decent to "****ty".

The two premium phones I have are both POSes. The g2x has so many issues and the battery sucks sooo bad and the sensation has it's fair share, plus it can't be rooted yet, or modded much at this time, looks like htc don't care much about it. Plus I'm gonna save money by going to a cheaper phone. Also returning to Costco, I won't be selling them.
I had a sprint epic 4g, another galaxy s phone. The screen was great, but I didn't need the keyboard and the battery life sucked and the gps/compass had major issues.
My questions are:
A. Does the sgs4g have compass or gps issues?
B. How is the battery life with the relatively huge 1650mah battery?
C-a. Is there an official gingerbread rom or just leaked versions? And if so, what issues do they have?
C-b. If not, does Samsung have plans to have an official 2.3 rom or no?
D. Is there a collective agreement as to what rom has the best battery life? Don't care about speed much.
E. I know this phone is fast enough, but slower than what I have, I need good battery life, FYI, not a question, I know.
Thanks in advance everyone!
Some people seem to have GPS issues and others don't. There is no official 2.3 yet but an official gingerbread update has been confirmed for the sgs4g. The battery is good and with a few tweeks it is great. I get 20 hours on moderate use and around 12 on heavy use. My wife had the g2x and it was a turd. Its gone now. In my opinion the sgs 4g is better.

yeah, I'm the OP on the thread linked above. I really wanted to like the G2x, but just too many issues.
I know some people said that they have issues with the GPS, but mine is solid, and locks typically within 10 seconds (longer if indoors). Battery life so far is OK. I'm happy if I get a day, and so far, for the 2 days I've had it, it hasn't been a problem. For best battery life, it appears that the Bali kernel is best...I just flashed the Bali UV kernel this morning. Camera is nicer (much) on the G2x, but the SGS4G's camera is serviceable.
even with the gs4g being an essentially year old device, Id still take it over the sensation and the g2x. Hands down. No comparison. Get rid of touchwiz and this thing flies. Then you have all of samsungs video codecs+super amoled+hummingbird.
The only phone i will switch to would be a successor to the galaxy series. I.E. Galaxy s2, or the Infuse 4G (even tho its an att phone). its gotta have super amoled or better for me to use anything else.
First some history. Im currently using a Desire HD and switching from sense to CM7 back in forth once in a while so custom ROMs are a must.
Previous to that had a nexus one.
My main requists are the following
Flashable ROMs
good battery life
Good overall performance
Good reception and call qaulity
Good speaker
Screen at lease 4"
Must take MicroSD (I have a 32gig and I spent 100$ to get it so I want to use it)
Im looking to get a new phone and im pretty much down to the following 4 choices which are currently available to me in Canada
LG Optimus 2X
LG Optimus 3D
HTC EVO 3D
Samsung Galaxy S Infuse 4G
Samsung Galaxy S II 4G
HTC Sensation 4G
MOTOROLA ATRIX 4G
MOTOROLA XT860 4G
Now in terms of price they are all give or take about the same. Specs wise the atrix still looks like a good buy especially now that bootloader is unlocked. 1 gig of ram 16gig internal plus external etc but from what I hear the screen isnt one of the best out there and due to the higher pixel count speed on the CPU takes a hit.Battery is huge which is a big plus
In general I think the 3D thing is just a gimmick so that's no big deal for me as long as the 5megapixel is semi decent
I could care less about full keyboards as im used to screen ones now
In general I tend to avoid LG due to past issues but the optimus 2 has some good reviews out there.
As for Samsung ive known a few people who say changing roms is harder then lets say on HTC devices.
So any opinion would be appreciated.
So in order here are my priorities with these
Reception
Voice quality
Battery life
Ease of rom installation and support
Good speaker
Good overall CPU performance
Screen size
Good cam 5MP and up
Dont care if its HSPA+ or whatever. Never get above 3Mbps on my network anyways

But the battery is pretty small for a device with qHD and 4.3 screen also in my general experience Sense looks night but takes allot of potential out of the CPU compared to CM7 or base android.
Also it has less internal storage and RAM then some of the other devices as well
But AFAIK,battery backup is wayy better in sensation compared to sgs 2 although both r dual core...!
N btw, stock roms tend to take a hell lot of ram...customs roms uses wayy less ram..
N hell yeah,memory is a bit f problem unless u root it..
N btw, nothing can touch d samoled screen f sgs2,but one has to consider other things too...

Well from the looks of xda its easy to root the GS2
as for battery I see Mugen has a 3200mah battery but would distroy the look of the phone.

At this point I think im leaning towards SGII seems specs are as good if not better then Atrix and battery is bigger then the Sensation
You won't regret your choices on any of the phones you listed but I would go with the: Samsung Galaxy S II 4G. I have one & it's awesome. Check out the SGSII forums to see what ROMs & other goodies you can get if you decide to get a SGSII.

Hows the battery on it? Any recommendations on ROMs? Is it easy to flash customer stuff?
I saw how to root and also I see there is CWM for it so figure it should be easy to install ROMs and kernels and stuff after.

Battery life is awesome & I've been using Cognition since it's release. It's easy peezy hence why I love it so much. I use to have a HTC Inspire & it was a pain in the beginning but easy after I made a successful gold card.
Love at first sight and then buy
Expected to come google-motorola... joked I say we go into the store and buy what you like it.
New Phone
Definitely judging by my hands on experience HTC or Motorola!
Id say the sensation 4g, in my opinion.
Thanks for all the replies
Sensation, or ATRIX+dock.
htc make amazing phones.. I bought the desire a year ago and it performs like a rock! and rocks do perform, it's known
I would suggest the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G.
The battery life is solid, it's very easy to root (check out its forum).
The camera is awesome, and the screen can't be beat.
Go for it.
Find dock is a waste of money. Leaning towards SGS2. Other then the battery on the atrix the specs beat all the others. Don't need qhd as that takes away from the cpu for nothing in my view

Any recommendations for roms?
I would go for the optimus 2x. I have a g2x and love it. GREAT screen, GREAT camera. GREAT phone. haha
I am loving my Infuse. Best phone I've ever had. It is easy to root, go back to stock, flash roms and just about evrything else. Htc seems a lot more difficult.to do all these.to begin with.
The screen is amazing, first phone I actually wanted to watch anything on(had iphone previously).
Battery life is good and there are good roms although right now they are on hold awaiting att to roll.out gb update to the phone.

So far i like my infuse no real problems only thing that bothers me is the reception i get when ever im indoors its horrible. I recently seen a Lg thrill for a very good price and im seeing mixed emotions about it. Would it be a upgrade from the infuse? Is the dev scene really ever going to get rolling on it?? It seems preety dead but i just like changing things up alot. What do you guys think?

Don't go LG...

The thrill is a nice phone. I have one on its way and look forward to tinkering with it. The main thing I have heard is the horrible battery life and some people have gotten a bad batch. The battery life is my main concern but I am sure with a bit of tweaking it can be manageable, also they have cheep extended life batteries on eBay. I say if you want to take a gamble go for it! The lg g2x I had on Tmobile before switching to att was a fantastic phone that other people had issues with but I found none with mine.

Serious question, are you guys really not worried about the huge size? I'm over 6 foot and wear XL clothing but still... I don't know what to think about that ginormous screen.

So i got an thrill off my local craigslist and its just no where near as good as my infuse. The 3dis a cool feature but it warns you to take a break if your eyes get tired it will cause dizziness. I cant look at 3d content it makes me feel high every time i look at somethign real. Ehhhh well i hope i didnt brick my infuse back to the old faithful ( HOPEFULY)
Hey all! My Incredible S just died on me and I've been offered a sensation for $200 to replace it. Is the sensation a good phone to switch to? I was wondering about things like battery life (sucked on inc s) and amount of roms available. Also how long do you think htc will be updating the sensation?
Thanks for any input you have!
It's an awesome phone.I believe we will see Jellybean 4.1 for the sensation around October maybe even earlier.and $200 is a good deal.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA
$200 isn't bad, I enjoy my sensation but would love to have the SGS III or the One X instead... we've pretty much reached our limit for updates so don't expect too much more from that. You're wanting to buy a phone a or year or so old... it's OLD now. Don't expect too much. Battery life is amazing for some such as myself. I can go 2 days (I also used to have an Incredible S -- You'll notice the awesome difference with resolution as well) without recharging using the new Sense 4 roms OR 3.6. I don't know what happened but in ICS my battery is incredible. I just hate the fact that I have a little bit of dust under screen... aside from that no complaints!
Ill be honest ..
Great phone great dev support worst battery life ever ! Simple as that...
However you can get an extended battery "anker" 1900mah it helps quite alot for 25$

thanks! it seems like your dev community is crazy active over here! Im thinking maybe I should just spend the money and get the s3
Woho, the S3 is a very good phone, but how much money can you spend?

Our dev support is indeed crazy but things might start to slow down little bit later (hope not) if you can get the s3 and it fits your budget go ahead you won't regret it for sure!

Buying the S3 without a contract would be near triple what the Sensation will cost you. I'm not sure if that's worth it.
I lost my old HTC Desire HD a week ago, and has been googling as a crazy person since then trying to decide what phone I will buy to replace it... Then I thought: "WHY don't I just ask the people on XDA what phones are worth checking out?" and here I am.
I had rooted my Desire HD and used CM, which I loved much more than sense since it made the phone faster, I could do whatever I wanted with it etc. I'm 98% sure I will want to root and use CM on my new phone as well, so please don't name phones that are a total ***** to get fully rooted. It was a little bit of work to root my HD, but following a guide from top to bottom got me through it.. Thank god you only have to do it once.
Anyways, I do use the camera quite a lot on my phones so an OK camera is a big plus. I also fiddle alot with my phones during the day, so good batterytime is a huge plus... And if the battery is easy to take out and put in that is also a plus so I can carry around extra batteries which I am used to from having a Desire HD which burned of batterytime like crazy.
Good GPS signal is also nice to have as I suck at getting around places I don't know.
Hmmm... What else is there to say.. I dunno. Maybe this is enough for now
LG G2(But no removable battery.. its not a prob since its 3K+ mAh) or S4 I9505
