[Q] USB 2.0 port issue - G Tablet General

I was going to mod my new (purchased Thursday) G Tablet today but something in me said to make sure all the hardware works first. So I plugged in a San Disk Cruzer 4Gig USB stick and the G Tablet will not recognize it. I called tech support and they had me reboot with it installed, reformatted it to FAT32 (which it already was) but still no go. So I returned the tablet for another. Same problem!. This USB stick works in my Windows 7 laptop just fine. And my microsd works fine in the G Tablet, BTW.
Is this tablet finicky with the brand of USB sticks or something? Or do I have incredile bad luck to have two tablets with the same problem?
Needless to say, the mod is being put off until I (someone on this forum hopefully) can figure this out
Thanks for any ideas/input!
Mark

Heres the silly question......
Did you open a file manger, navigate to root "/" and look for "usbdisk"?

Um OK. I feel kinda stupid...
I thought it would pop up as a notification when plugged in. Never looked in the file manager. and there it is!
If I had only taken the time to read the PDf manual I downloaded yesterday. It clearly states the process to read and transfer files from the usbdisk.
Thanks for slapping me upside the head. I needed that.

Full Root for HP Zeen (C510 printer tablet) update 9/8/12

As of this time, we do not have a way to restore to stock rom. We are waiting for the rom to be reuploaded somewhere. If you have it, please get with me.
Click here and download the three files:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27647443&postcount=441
Unzip and place those three files on your sd card that goes in your zeen.
Power off the zeen.
Insert the sd card.
Hold the two volume buttons, then press and hold the power button and wait for the flash to complete.
It will say to remove sd card and press any key. Do so.
Once powered up, your should have a semi aosp build of....I think it's 2.2, correct me if wrong.
just ordered one from hp using purchaseedge points. free tablet=good. should be here this week. cant wait to start playing around with it. i cant imagine hp spent a ton trying to secure the hardware from hackers, since it is only a $400 device. hopefully this will gain more interest now that the samsung tab isnt living to the hype

I don't really think this things is gonna get much further. I wish it would, but of all the people on here only like 6 have it.
i just bought one yesterday ($299 @ bb w/ staples pricematch). haven't had a chance to do much with it yet, but i'll play with it this weekend. btw, i'm in KC too.
i have one also one issue though i dont have the printer for the setup is there a workaround for this? >_<
Don't need printer to setup
you shouldn't need a printer to set up just ZEEN. I know it forces you to dock ZEEN to printer, in that case, pull the menu down from the top, manually go into settings. Let me see if I can come up with documentation. I just did it and its working fine.
jlechner,
do you remember which version of Z4root u used?
Come on people... Lets root this thing...

I have had my Zeen for two weeks now. One thing that has been very helpful is taking all the apk. files I like on EVO and putting them on the Zeen sd card. Most are working great!
I would like to know Z4 root that was used also.

No, but after you asked that I remember when I used the latest one, it kinda messes up. It puts it in some kind of test mode, and upon almost any reboot wipes everything.
z4root v1.3.0 gives me temporary "partial" root. Superuser works for some root apps like Root Explorer and AutoStart, but Titanium Backup and AutoStart do not see root.
Still unable to use RomManager because the device is still NAND locked.

Has this gone anywhere? I just picked up a printer and got the pretty nifty tablet with it... or is that I picked up an HP Zeen tablet and got a pretty functional printer with it... Either way NIFTY COMBO!!
I have a rooted Nexus One and Motorola Backflip as well as a jailbroken iPhone 4, 3GS, and 3G.
This thing has to have a loophole somewhere. If we could get it running Android 2.2 and drop that horrific Yahoo interface we might be getting somewhere.
HP Zeen
I am having the same issues with the Z4root. Some things work and some thing don't recognize the root.
The one thing I love about the tablet is the battery life. I installed everything that was on my IPOD, and plug it into any amp--hours of music, and it is great for watching movies.
It is like getting free tablet with a great printer. No monthly payment!!!
Holding both volume buttons at boot will ask to erase the user data. But that's all I've found so far.
Has anyone been able to use Dolphin HD browser on this? Amazon has the Printer for $296 with free shipping. Now the price point is where it should be. Could someone list the known working apps for this tablet? Thanks.
Edit: I found it for $259.99 from Adorama with free shipping.
td1320, i have been using Dolphin Browser HD on the Zeen for about a month and a half now, it works great.
Zeen root
Which rooted apps have you been able to put in??
Do you guys recommend this printer? I have seen some bad reviews.

The printer is pretty good to me. It's fast and responsive. On another note, I tried installing the marketplace on this tablet and it keeps coming back it couldn't be installed. I wonder why... Astro File Manager works!

Hi, I got one of these at a junksale today minus the printer or anything to charge it.
I have made up a charger with correct voltage & amps and fitted a suitable plug. It charges.
I am still to get past the setup screen much help would be appreciated in knowing how you do this - if at all possible.
One thing I have been able to do is when battery warning comes on access the dashboard and connect it to my wireless network. I am looking though the settings now to see if this setup process can be overridden in there by perhaps deleting something or killing a service.
I have an IP address of it sat on my network, could you SSH into it I wonder?
Ideally I could do with taking it into a store and just plugging it into one on the shelf on display. But that would be a bit cheeky.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

I picked my Zeen up from a local classified site for $50 because the kid couldnt get it past the printer setup. I'm assuming it was probably stolen the more I think of it, since if it was purchased with the printer it would be setup already... but I bought it from someone who claimed to be the original owner so i cant do much more about it.
On The Way home I had a brilliant idea.
I stopped at staples, took my zeen in and docked it on their printer for 30 seconds and it finished the setup... Pretty easy...
However, I have since reset the device and foun an easier way.
YOU MUST HAVE A POWER/DATA Mini-USB CABLE FOR THIS!
it can not be just a power cable, it has to have DATA capabilities.
(I Used A MacBook For This But It Should Work For A PC)
-Plug in your USB cable to the computer
-Plug In your Zeen AC Adapter (YOU MUST HAVE AN AC ADAPTER AND MINI USB)
-then boot your zeen to the setup menu
-plug in the mini usb to your zeen and hopefully it gives you the option to continue setup. (If it doesnt give it about 60 seconds)
-If it doesnt work unplug the mini-usb and plug it back in
I have reset twice now and this has worked for me.
-If it doesn't show up unplug the mini-usb and then plug it back in.
I have reset twice now, the first time i had to unplug it a few times but the 2nd reset it took it the first time.

[Q] Can anyone help with getting my tablet to recongize a pc connection?

Current info on it - Android 4.1.1 and stock build - epad-10.4.4.23-20121127
I was rooted for about 2 months and had the tracking cilents frozen in titanium. About 2 weeks ago I saw a thread about the update for .23 firmware. I went and unfroze the clients and did a reboot with no problem getting the OTA update and restoring root. Before this I was able to hook up my tablet to a pc and transfer files. I didn't have need to use this function until last night when I discovered that it will no longer recognize being attached to the pc.
Essentially nothing happens. There is no sound and notification icon on the pc that a device was attached. Nothing shows up in device manager. The tablet doesn't show the USB connection icon. To make sure the usb port was good i connected my cell phone to it, bluetooth dongle, and a thumb drive. It works fine. This system runs XP with the drivers previously installed and working. I tried my laptop that runs Vista and worked fine previously when connected. Again I get the same issue. Even their Asus sync software on the pc shows no device attached. Just now I tried hooked up the tablet to my work pc and no change. That makes 3 pc's that I've attempted.
I can only think it was the firmware update. That was the only change I made to the system. Last night I did a factory reset of stock to see if a setting got messed up somewhere but there is still no connection. I probably lost root in that process and since it won't connect to the a pc, I doubt I can get that back. That is the least of my concerns though. I fear that something physical with the connector went bad that tells the OS a pc connection is occurring. Would that even be possible to happen yet work fine for charging the tablet?
Thanks for any suggestions or comments.
Yes, it is the JB update if your PC is running XP (not sure about Vista, but it's probably the same). You probably noticed that the options for USB connection in JB are limited to Media and Camera? Under JB the tablet sadly does not connect as an external drive to a XP PC anymore.
The Infinity does shows up under Windows 7 as an external device. I looked high and low, but there does not seem to be a fix for XP.
My work-around for anything I do not want in my Dropbox (which is by far the smoothest way to get something from your PC to your tablet) is using Airdroid from the play store. That app uses your WiFi network to transfer files. Works great! And no cables!
Larger files, like movies, I transfer via SD card. Truth be told - I do not really miss the USB connection anymore.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk HD
It's odd that it won't recognise a connection at all. Have you tried reflashing the full stock firmware?
Under JellyBean, XP, Vista, 7 and 8 recognise it as a Portable Media Device. My main PC runs XP SP3, so no, it's not an XP-issue.
With ICS it used to be an external drive, but sadly that ended with JB. (Which is a feature I thoroughly detest on every device including my sgs3, but alas.) Originally they deleted the feature in ICS to begin with, but for some reason it continued to work on some TF700's. Not all of them, though.
I miss UMS.... MTP drives me insane on any device. It keeps whining about literally every file format that it "is not natively compatible with the device [insert 16 more lines of text I have stopped reading because it is actually longer than the dialogue window...]" . Even .jpgs.... Which is ridiculous, as stock gallery recognises .jpgs just fine.
I mailed the tablet in for RMA and they, well someone at the center, signed for it on Friday. I tried doing the wipes and even downloaded the firmware from Asus and reinstalled it from the sd card. Nothing happens when it's connected. I got it working originally under XP following a guide somewhere on here. You have to update windows media player or something like that to end the failed driver update error. It will install the MTP support or proper drivers that are not included in XP. But yeah, now in Vista or my XP machines nothing happens and I can only assume it's hardware with the connector not recognizing a pc signal. It was working fine with JB installed before.
When I called into support their answer was RMA anyway. I had already done everything the support person was going to ask; reboot, factory reset, try different pc, make sure the usb ports work. Aside form a little screen bleed the tablet has worked without a problem until this last firmware update. There other ways for getting media to the device and that didn't concern me. It is the inability to connect the device to the pc for actions such as rooting, unlocking, or other similar functions that bother me. I had it rooted (lost now that I kept trying different wipes etc) but feared something going wrong later if I unlocked it and lost warranty. Once warrant is up this device is fair game and going unlocked for sure.
In case anyone else encounters the same problem, apparently the connector went bad on the tablet. They replaced the part under warranty. Took about 10 days in total and so far the only issues I see with the tablet is bent metal where the connector and one of the prong holes for the dock is and the screen. I assume the bent metal is from the tools used to pry open the case. The glass over the screen seems mushy and a bit popped up now on the edges. Don't know if that is something I should worry about or just expect since it was opened.
It did come back with 10.4.4.16 firmware. I was real tempted before to unlock and really let the tablet shine but hesitant now. They may not have covered the warranty repair if I did and I don't have another $500 to drop if something else goes bad that isn't minor.
No pc recgnized
I had this happen a few days ago after rom-ing ..... In win 7......

1. Check in settings mk sure pc sync / connect to pc is enabled...
2. Install asus sync on ur pc

Here in the usa most states have warranty laws that void their claim that unlocking it voids the warranty...and last year the supreme court ruled that jailbreaking was legal in all 50 states, this claim by asus is clearly seen for what it is....a veiled attempt to not have to honor warranty on zillions of devices...to save their scamming butts alot of money
on std warranty repairs. Its a scam, they know it.....and now u know it....
If u unlock, your state warranty laws will in most cases still enforce your warranty...
If u threaten to file a class action suit agianst them for it, they will back down and honor your warranty....or they loose bigtime......

[Q] Unique tf300t Issue

Hello folks!
I purchased a bricked TF300t from ebay. I knew it was bricked when I bought it, but I asked the original owner a bunch of questions before buying and it seemed like I could fix it. Well he wasn't completely honest about the issues it had and now I am stuck in a bootloop. It will load the ASUS splash screen, then it will begin to load the rom by showing the metallic looking asus splash screen with the spinning circle. It will spin for a little while, freeze, then reboot.
I was able to flash the stock JB 4.2 rom via the sdcard and the stock recovery (yes it is the JB bootloader) and this is where it lands me. I was hoping to use a TWRP or ClockworkMod recovery, but when I boot to the bootloader and it says fastboot protocol is on, neither of my Windows 8x64 pc will recognize it. Not just that it can't find the right driver, but that it doesn't see anything at all has been connected. Nothing in the device manager, no sound effects, nada. I have no blobs, so APX is worthless to me (and it doesn't find anything in apx mode either). I have used universal ADB drivers, Naked drivers, Driving Ms. Daisy, all to no avail. I have also tried to connect it to a 64 bit windows 7 machine with no luck. I am using the stock USB cable as well.
Basically I need a way to get out of the bootloop, a way to make fastboot work, or to flash a new recovery via sd-card (which I don't even think is possible). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If they know, they wouldn't give you the Google-is-your-friend thing. But sarcasm won't get you far either, I'm afraid. People are willing to help, but nobody owes anybody anything up here. Your due diligence is for your own good, and counts for little here. No need to remind them to put up with you. You're asking for help you're not paying for, remember?
Now to the matter at hand: is it possible that the cable and/or the I/O port is bad? That takes place quite often. A wrong push might bend the tiny pins inside (happened to me, I had to replace the ribbon cable ). Some have gone through 2 or 3 USB cables before getting the thing to work. There have been cases where the PC couldn't connect with the tab in fastboot mode because the drivers did not install correctly or it's Win 7 64, etc... But if you can verify software validity PC-side, then it can't be anything other than physical non-connectivity. You might be barking up the wrong tree by focusing solely on firmware tab-side.

First off, thanks for your reply! Secondly, I am sorry that my original post came off sounding so harsh! It didn't sound so bad in my head (but rereading it I think you are right). Sorry if I offended. I have edited my original post to remove some of the snarkiness.
Also, it may be a bad IO port, but when I plug it into the computer while on the bootloader menu, for example, the tablet freezes for just a moment as if it is getting ready for communication with my pc.. I hope the IO port is not bad, but even if it is, any other ideas that anyone can give me would be welcome.

I read your OP again. Your problem is interesting. I assume at this point your tab is stuck at the bootloader with at least 2 icons (RCK and Wipe Data), since if you can load the 4.2 rom, you can use Goo manager to download the custom recovery. But even if stuck at fastboot page, you should be able to select RCK and flash back to 4.1 with the official zip (104220 unzipped once) on SD card. I've done this after selecting the wipe data icon (while you're on official rom with no custom recovery installed, it's safe to wipe data). Once you succeed at downgrading to 4.1, you can work your way back up to 4.2. Have you tried this?

I only use X64. No issues here, I just use the drivers posted on the sticky ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1697227 Post 2 Under "Utilities 300T 300TG" ). I didnt have any luck with the universal drivers though. One thing that DID make a difference for me was whether I plugged it into a USB port on the front ( from the motherboard header ) or directly to the motherboard in the rear. Rear worked where front didnt ( on 2 different computers ). It might have something to do with the length of the cable + connecting in multiple spots. My external USB drives / Wireless adapters work perfect on the front ports, and one computer is brand new ( Intel extreme board + 3770K ). The new rig has USB3 on the front as well.

Also try different usb ports as well. Its weird, but fixed my issue. Also on laptops, some have daughterboards or small ribbons connecting to some of the USB ports. Its worth a shot trying different ports on a laptop as well.
Let us know if it works !
If not, it could be your dock connector as mentioned earlier. Luckily, they are cheap though.

[Q] MaPan MX319/JXD S9100 Help

As far as I can tell, the title says what the tablet's model is although I'm not 100% sure as it doesn't have any stickers or decals giving any clues as what it's exact model is other than it has 8GB of storage.
My brother found it in a house he was remodeling for someone. The last occupants of the house were long since gone and the owner (who my brother was doing the work for) said he could keep it and since he already has a tablet, he gave it to me.
The downsides to this are;
1. It has no SD card. But I can easily go out and buy one.
2. It's locked with a passcode and since it's original owners are long gone, there's no way to get the code.
The passcode can range from a single digit and above so guessing was obviously out of the question.
I tried looking up the recovery button sequence and after trying countless different ones that I've found, I've had no luck.
Windows 7 recognizes it as a USB Composite Device, I've tried the instuctions found in google to get it to recognize it as a tablet, but so far no luck there either. The tablet doesn't even show a prompt for USB Mass Storage when it's plugged in. It simply displays the passcode number pad.
I've considered flashing it but LiveSuite is a joke. After trying to decipher all the broken english, it wont even recognize the tablet. I found the firmware on the MaPan website after digging through all their tablet models and comparing the pictures until I found the exact match of the one I have.
Any idea how I can make this tablet usable? I have Ubuntu 12.04 in virtualbox as well if using that will make it easier.
Also, if anyone asks for pictures, I'm sorry as I don't have a camera. I have a cheap phone but it doesn't have one.

PX5 USB & SSD setups -working situations

Just wanted to know what people have got running on thier systems now adays..
I had a 128g sdcard and a 32g USB in the PX3 that did the trick. But now I have changed cars and upgraded the unit.. am looking at using a few SSD's I have kicking around.
There was old threads on guys setting up external powered USB hubs and running 1t 2.5 drives when these units first came out..
But with the advent of low powered SSD's almost a dime a dozen.. (well 250gb for under $50).. with luck there is not too many barriers to plug and play..
I say that tongue in cheek as I know about the limits of Android previously seeing anything over 32gb & 64gb..but as it has matured it has been getting better with the storage situation..
So what is max people have got going at the moment?
While I am at it..
(And I didn't think it was right.to clutter up the ROMs threads with this question)
Split screen ROMs..
Just had a look at both devolopment ROMs and couldn't see if any had the ability.
I remember seeing a few units with this ability around the traps as I was searching for mine.. ( maybe just a sales gimick)
But the old transformers had this ability via the very talented Tim's rom work and I am surprised it hasn't become the norm in Android..
I do understand that we have 'draw over top of other apps' permission.. and that gmaps does do it's little minimizer thing..but it's kinda crude in that it is taking re-estate on top of say the music app..
A better look on these bigger screens would be GPS on one side and music on the other..
I mean they have the CPU and GPU memory to handle this..
The Android 8.0 ROMs do have split screen (even stock). With an app open, just press and hold the "recent apps" button and you can then select another app to run and they will run in split screen mode.
However, not all apps support this - and some will force-close as well. It's a nice feature to have, but it's a little limited right now.
Give it a try though...
Thanks for that will try it and report back.
Understand that it's also a safety issue while driving..
(Lol and that is another conversation ).
But seriously it would be better to set this up before hitting the road. i.e GPS navigation on one side and selection of music playing on the other..and or radio stations..
That way your not trying to reach across playing with it while driving.
I know, I know and it's been debated a tad in another thread. Thus the reason they are supposed to be locked down from driver interaction via motion sensors.
Which if a named brand, is a good idea to migrate liabilities.. you don't want to be held liable if some fool crashes and kills themselves and or others while using a entertainment system that comes stock with a car.. (nanny state type scenario).
This also brings up good steering wheel key mapping especially now that many of these units are going down the path of being knob less..and we are going for the full screen experience.

Just wanted to know what people have got running on thier systems now adays..
I had a 128g SD card and a 32g USB in the PX3 that did the trick.

128GB sd card, formatted Fat32 (by android unit itself)
Works fine except
Oreo want to "check CF card for errors" each time it comes out of sleep, or on boot.
With and 8GB or 16GB CF card, that does not take too much time, but a 128GB CF takes about 45 seconds !!!
Maybe a USB SSD (as opposed to a USD Flash Drive stick), would not require this error Check. I suspect a USB Flash drive will.
This alone might be the justification for a USB SSD
Haven't been able to test it as yet .
Seems I got the slow boat from China on this supplier of SSD and M2 housings..
With luck they are here this week and can run some tests and report back.
Pretty sure these are not USB 3 connections we have but USB 2?.. need to check the specs..do know there is 3 USB inputs on the unit..

Might do better to actually measure the speed with a 3.0 USB device.
They can say anything in the spec !!!
It may be 3.0, but it also may be slow !!
Finally the bits and pieces arrived today and had a quick play with it..
So far not looking good.
Will document it a bit more and report back..
But it seems the same old story as with the PX3 machines..and the limitations of Android.
While this is being addressed in newer versions of phones and Android version upgrades.. i.e the phones with 128 and 256g ..
These units are still limited to the lower end spectrum.
But with that being said..
The 180g SSD and housing through the machine into a tantrum.. as in pulling to much power through the ports it seems. As lost GSP ability..
Yes truely.. could not get a satellite fix . Pulled the drive and it worked.. put 32gig USB in..not drama..SSD back in and same..
Dropped the 256g M2 in.. formatted as Fat32.. and it was seen via that machine..but as I was in a hurry..I didn't get time to copy anything across to it..
Had a quick play tonight and was thinking about transfer from internal memory to it..but now it's not being seen..
Will put it through the format again and see if it works..
Got to be noted I am using generic Chinese housings..and thus anything could be up with these..
As even with the formatting..there is a bit to play around with..as in..my win10 machines are not seeing them but when I plug them into the Synology they are showing up fine..
Once again.. what have others been successful with or is it just the 128g USBs sticks that are going to have to do?.
And from reading..most are only loading up 1x of the USB ports due to the problematic USB board/port burn out?..
Seems a waste to have 3x USB ports and can't use them.. have tested all 3 with the 32g USB..and they are seeing it and playing music and video off it..
Personally, I'm happy just using the SD card slots. With a custom ROM, 128GB NTFS cards work great (read and write). I recently just tried disabling the filesystem check as well and now they basically mount almost instantly. Since i never remove them, I don't see the need to check the filesystems every time the unit comes out of sleep. So far, I haven't had any issues. If I ever do run into issues, I'll re-enabled the filesystem check since it only took a few seconds with NTFS anyway - even with fully-loaded 128GB SD cards.
For me, with (2) SD cards slots and 128GB SD cards (never tried 256GB cards) - that is plenty of storage. Plus, you can always switch SD cards as well. I just don't have the need for more that 256GB of storage on my head-unit. I'm guessing that you could use 128GB or 256GB NTFS USB thumb drives as well (so 3x128GB or probably even 3x256GB). You just need to root and/or install a custom ROM. It's really easy to do - with all of the effort you are putting into trying to make things work with stock un-rooted, you can have easily installed a custom ROM and went that route. You can always go back to stock un-rooted if you want/need to.
Or - maybe you can connect a powered USB hub if USB power is the issue? Obviously, you'd need to figure out how to power it, but I'm sure it can be done...
Yes.. chances are I will go down the custom rom route.
Just haven't had the time to sit in the car for the afternoon and flash it.
The unit I have got hasn't got sdcard slots.
(Or it may have but from some reading there is a possibility that there is one hidden behind the facing they put on to suit each car... I did have a check before install on how that is put on and seems it's just a set of screws.. and I suppose I can just send an email to the team and ask..lol)
That was the setup on the PX3 unit just had a 128 sdcard and it worked fine..
Only reason I grabbed the housing for the SSD's and M2 was they where sitting doing nothing so I might as well use them for something and or give them away.
Anyway will book an afternoon in for a play as the after market reversing cam wiring harness turned up today.. with luck it's just plug and play..
Might flash a rom and upgrade the MCU..
As per banter in some of the other threads..once the setup is done and I am a happy camper with stability.. then won't be a flashaholic as don't see the need to flash for flashing sake..just want to jump in and GPS, music, Radio or watch porn with the girl in the car..
Lol..I. Saying that just to get a chuckle from you know who...?
@jtrosky
 @dgcruzing
How did you manage to disable the filesystem check after sleep?
I use tweo 128gb sticks on my PX5 MTCE device and they took about 30-40s to be mounted, because they're checked for errors each time.
This is very annoying - could you tell me how you disabled it (or any workaround)?
Thank you!
