Definitive Battery Thread

Hello everyone!
I've spent the past week doing as much research as possible into what type of battery to buy for my G2 and i've come across alot of information to say the least. Alot of opinions, alot of useless data, and some useful data. I just wanted to summarize this info for everyone. And add any new information that people post in the thread below, including battery life data.
Popular Batteries:
- The Mugen 1800mAh - $45 (1400mAh in testing)
- The Senido 1750mAh - $50 (1400mAh in testing)
- The HTC 1500mAh 35H00123-11M (-00M).. Also known as the TP2/EVO battery - $7 (1500mAh in testing)
- The CHICHITEC 1800mAh - $20/each or $40 for 2 + Charger (untested)
Research:
- Mugen and Seido seem to have EXTREMELY inconsistent mAh ratings, HTC seems to be the most consistent.
- On the other hand, trying to compare these battery assuming constant maximum power draw is a little unfair.
The one thing that seems constant is that HTC's battery's perform as expected in every environment and over time, whereas the third partys seem to be able to pull values closer (somewhat) to what they advertise under certain conditions. Not to mention that we have no knowledge regarding the long-term affects of the 'tuning' that these third party companies have done.
We gotta realize that most battery's are using the same cell or the same knock-off cell, and we can't really expect to much of an increase in mAh in this battery form-factor.
Installation Issues:
A lot of these battery's will need to be modified to fit our phones in one way or another as they're meant for the EVO 4G/Incredible/TP2/MyTouch3gSlide/CDMAHero.. Even the ones that are labeled as "G2 Compatible" might not be as a lot of the 'higher capacity' cells have identical dimensions.
Removing the Wrapper around the battery might assist with door bulge
If you feel like you have to aggressively 'wedge' the battery in then you might want to remove/modify the little nub's at the bottom of the battery near the contacts using nail clippers/dremel/knife. Otherwise you run the risk of damaging the cell-side charging contacts.
Some of the hardcore guys in here have sanded down the battery to have a good fit
The 'fit' differs from phone to phone depending both on the dimensions of each specific battery (not the actual brand or company, but each individual battery seems to be a little bit different) and the G2 Door.
If you leave the door bulging indefinitely it might damage the door in some way, it's recommended that you remove the door and just use a case if it's a major problem for you.
Tips:
- After installing the new battery, remember to reset the battery calibration through your recovery. This affects how many times you feel the need to "cycle it through" before achieving optimal battery life.
- Don't believe the temperature sensor on 3rd Party batteries
- Individual "Before and After" stories are cool, but not that useful considering all the variables involved with the hardware, the radio & signal, the software, and the human being (placebo affect). Aggregating all the data together does give us some picture of whats going on.
- The best tell for battery quality is the weight of the battery compared to your stock one, although this is not a guaranteed method.
Conclusion
After reading through as many threads as I could find regarding this topic, It seems that the CHICHITEC batteries have come to be the most popular across all these HTC phones. While the 1500mAh HTC EVO battery seems like the best deal with the most consistent power output.
The average perceived benefit using these batteries seems to be between 30-20%.

Thanks, this really is usefull and spares us who are still trying to figure out wich battery they want, alot of time!

For CHICHITEC 1800mAh battery, is it safe to shave off the piece allowing the battery to be a perfect fit? Such as trying to use a nail clipper and clip it off.

All I wanted to do was add my experience. I went out on a limb and bought the 2000mAh batteries from Galilio.
I took the wrapper off and trimmed the tabs and have been using them for about 3 months now.
My battery door does have a slight bulge to it but I can live with it.
The other day I decided to go back to my factory battery because I now have a charger by my bed, one in my truck and one at work. I have to say, I am spoiled now. My G2 is loaded up and running like crazy and my factory battery lasted like 2 hours where my Galilio battery goes for about 9 to 10 hours.
I text ALOT and facebook runs all day, I use the navigation on a daily basis and play tons of games.
Hope my 2 cents helped.

sweet i am still breaking the battery in hopefully its good as urs, btw what rom are you running?

I'm thinking about getting Mugen 1800mAH, but people are having mixed results. Maybe one day we'll get HTC made OEM battery.

CM 6.1.1 I absolutely love it. Tried the CM 7 but don't like it yet.

im on 10 hours of uncharge, so far its been light use, uncluding 1 hour and 30 min of GPS some texting, surfing and HTC updates

Thanks for compiling this info. I've had greatly improved life with the 1800mAh Mugen, but wasn't aware of the inconsistency some people are seeing.

I would say that the Mugen 1800 performs like a 1400 is an exaggeration.

Andida 1800mAh Battery Testing

Hi All,
Well, I finally received my Andida 1800mAh battery in the mail this week. Charged it up and I'm on my second day of real world testing. It's midday over here and my phone has been off the charger since 8am although I have only used it to send a couple of messages, read a few emails and check my calendar today. I'm not using any SetCPU profiles (haven't even installed SetCPU) and I have 97% remaining.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to test this battery against the stock? I was just going to enable bluetooth, wifi, GPS and load a playlist of the first season of scrubs and see which one lasted the longest. I can't imagine either would last any more than a couple of hours.
Any better ideas would be appreciated, I'm keen to get to the bottom of this and see if there is any real world increase in capacity with this battery.

Based on what? That's what I'm trying to determine here because although there has been a lot of waffle about batteries on this forum, I've yet to see many people who actually own the battery provide any conclusive results. At this stage I'm neither arguing for or against the battery, but testing it out.

Mid-day means 12:00PM, as in the middle of the day

Charge them both to 100% and run the same movie completely on both. See where each battery stands after the movie finishes.

I'm interested to hear the results of your test. Sounds like a perfect and objective way to tell which performs better....

I have this battery and just from my normal usage, it doesnt seem to be any different than the stock battery. I have not done any testing, just comparing where the batter is after a normal day to what my stock battery was after a normal day.

Make sure you go through a few cycles with the new battery before doing anything. Also wouldn't hurt to reset your battery stats after it's fully charged. It's hard to tell what a 'normal' days use is to compare one vs the other. The movie test seems to be a pretty valid test to me. Please post your results.

i just got my $109 shipment from netimes.com with 5 cases, blutooth headset, dock with a slot for a battery to charge, and 3 1600 mAh batteries and they were all about $7 but they last almost as long as the stock battery with normal use so their probably about 1200 mAh but with 4 it should get me through a couple of days with MIUI which i get amazing battery on

Not to be rude, but that website wasn't updated that long ago with phones/batteries that are still very relevant in today's market. Considering battery technology has not gone through any sort of major rework for years it's safe to say the results on that page are pretty accurate to those phones and most new phones coming out.
Also, it's no secret that the majority of these companies rate the batteries miserably higher than what they will actually test at. I'd also imagine it's safe to say that since the testing these companies haven't changed their whole business plan to represent accurate battery measurements.
Just my two cents. We all know the general result of these battery threads.

Until a reputable company comes out with a batter you can pretty much count on it not being any higher capacity than stock. This is due to the size of the battery, unless it sticks out the side of the phone there is almost not a way to make the battery much higher capacity using the same technology.(cheaply) Do you have evidence to prove otherwise? I'm willing to bet you do not..

that is no evidence.......ive seen aa batteries mAH ratings grow but no physical changes.
but that is beside the point until battery boss is updated with the newest phones batteries then it shouldnt be used as a guide like it was back then

2x Chichitec batteries with charger

So I'm looking to get a spare battery and a separate battery charger and came across this:

No reviews so far so I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with Chichitec batteries in general. $30 for 2 batteries (1700 mah) and a charger seems like a good deal, that way I don't really have to spend time being plugged in. Too bad the battery door isn't as easy to open as I'd like to...

If you get them let me know how they work.

Cheapo batteries tend to cause perm damage. A el cheapo amazon battery for my g2 bricked one phone and almlost permabricked its replacement.
G2x with faux AOSP and faux orange kernel. [email protected] 5107 quadrant.

I don't know why people insist on a spare battery to change out each time the other one dies. Not only is it not practical if you can't charge the battery outside of the phone, but you'll be putting wear and tear on the battery cover and sooner or later you'll find it won't sit tight but will be loose in it's fit. That's why I just decided to invest in the 4500mah Mugen, even though I got a free replacement stock battery from Tmobile.

Chichitec is HTCExpress, their batteries aren't as bad as the ebay "cheapies". I had their 1800 in my Dinc and then G2, worked perfectly fine.

The chichitecs come with a separate charger to charge only the spare battery. But yeah, I'm worried that if I open the battery door frequently it will get loose or break.

I don't necessarily disagree with your reasoning, it is a matter of perspective. It is just interesting how people can look at something differently. I think swapping batteries is a much more elegant solution then adding a gigantic protrusion to my phone. And battery covers are cheap, if it comes to that.

Yup, actually lasted longer than stock in my case. Im also a very heavy user, voice and data.

I've tried to find the post in this forum that had the link to the battery doors. They were actually to the LG Optimus 2x and required purchase of a min of 5 doors. Many have claimed that they have received replacement doors for free, both from T-mobile store and phone representatives.
With that said I must concede that they are not readily available. And I am surprised that 3rd party colorized replacements are not being marketed.
Personally I use accessories that would not work with the oversize cover that I do not want to give up: rubberized case, leather holster, and especially the bicycle mount. I suppose I am willing to take the risk that either the door won't break or if it does I'll be able to acquire the part. By that time there probably be enough dead G2X's around to find one on eBay.
I do have an external battery that recharges the phone, I should probably use it before resorting to swapping internal batteries. It's not that much trouble to use while still using phone, just a small object dangling from the charging/usb port on the phone.

Any more reviews on the CHICHITEC batteries, positive or negative? Do they report the correct temperature?

I ended up getting 2 3500 and 1 stand up spare charger for 25.
If you mind the bigger backdoor I say go for that.
But then again im really safe with my phone SO i dont end up dropping it.

One of the batteries is an OEM battery... not a "cheapy" battery. Just as reliable as the stock one you have in your phone right now..?

so I bought the 2x chichitec. I charged one and stuck it in my phone. The phone displayed 72% and 4190mV. WTF??? The voltage is believable - what piece of s/w or h/w came up with 72%? Also, the temp is stuck at the unbelievable 25.2C, which is disappointing. I haven't tried the 2nd battery, which is a different color. so, I downloaded this

both batteries very similar in performance as original, except no temp sensor. Charger charges slow, so it keeps the battery cool during charging. I bought these as backups for my wife, so when she gets the Screen Of Death she can swap in a fresh battery. As I've stated in other posts, if we re-boot once a day, we don't get the SOD. But I can't get her to consistently do that, so she pays about twice a month.
I do wish the temp sensor worked, because I have a profile set in setCpu for over temp, but we are just using these as backups, so...

I bought this set from Amazon because I was looking for swapping batteries for my phone and my wife's, who also has a G2x. I'm not sure if it's the methodical charge time with the charger or what, but I'm getting freakishly good battery life, with both the OEM batteries that came with the phone, and the Chichitec batteries. Light to moderate usage, I still have my Chichitec battery at 86% after being on for just shy under 7 hours, from what CM7 Spare Parts is telling me.
I'll be going to bed with the fully charged battery, and go to work with it for a majority of the next day, and swap them out around 11am, and stick the dead one on charge when I get home at 2pm, rinse, repeat. I haven't charged my phone since I bought this set.
Also, for those wondering, like myself, both of these batteries are NON-oem--just one is black like the OEM, and one is red, both of them are Chichitec batteries.

From my limited knowledge of batteries, charging slow and cool helps. Also this article discusses the charging routine can make a long term difference. It'd be interesting to KNOW if the chichitec charger is "better" for these batteries...

Will do. I'm charging my batteries SOLELY using the charger provided by Chichitec. I've not charged the batteries strictly through the phone, just exchange during work and later in the evening, depending on usage, of course.

Extended battery?

I have an extended battery for my. Inspire(1850 mah) but it still doesn't help that much and I was wondering even though it is a unibody cover if there is an extended battery with a cover like the extended battery for the Google nexus 1

hey let them completely discharge 3 times ( after it dies , wait about 5 minutes and power on the phone again let it power off)

When the battery gets charged fully the charging will stop or slow as needed. They will not overcharge. The charging systems of phones have their own regulation. Not sure where previous poster got his info. Guess his phone still uses NiCads.
Yet to see an extended battery for The Inspire with the custom cover. There is a battery pack that attaches to the back of the phone but I can't remember the make. There was big talk when they were released but I hear little about them now.

Powerskin. Never used it. Would have to give up my Defender. Some people like it.

that i read , is not good to let the battery over charge , that has happened to me, i have let it over charge overnight , after that the battery life gets reduce, i have an app call current monitor , after the battery reach 4.209 V . if i let sit there charging, the voltage starts to go down . ( maybe is the app)
with a 3 hour charge , i get about a day use out of the cell phone . letting the battery died the first three time you put it in the phone , i was told by th rep of the company that sold me the item , like i said before i get pretty good battery life , even with heavy use , now that temple run is in android . even more fun ..

Not that its a huge improvement over 1850 but the best I've seen for the inspire are 2000mAh, I just kept searching on ebay in 100 mAh increments until I got no results.

Sadly there are no "real" extended batteries for the inspire, they all have exaggerated
ratings, and the Powerskin is an external battery/case and I like my otterbox to much
to use it.

Be extra careful were you buy your extended life batteries from.. i ordered two and got what i paid for... they were 1850mAh which did last about 4 hours longer then the original but which one my camera didnt work... Said something to the tune of "Cannot use flash in cold weather conditions"... When i saw this for the first time i was like WTF its 80 degrees outside... then i changed batteries again and it worked... obviously something wrong in the battery.
It i probably worth spending a little more money on the battery to get better quality product.

not sure about it's performance, since it's made in china.

Probably not.
According to the DHD community the Mugen is the only trustworthy one, and that's at around 1650mah. The ones you see online are rarely what they claim to be.

1800 Andida good

Basically Mugen and Anker are the only good extended batteries it seems, and even then they don't seem to help much. D: I still wanna pick up an extra battery just in case for long trips, etc.

LG G5 Extended batteries from third party sources?

Alright. Just like what happens with many smartphones, third party sources have started releasing batteries with a little more juice than the Original LG Batteries of 2800mAh. I have to admit it, i was kind of counting on it because it happens a lot of time. But how reliable could they be? Would NFC work with them? Will it make our phone explode? From 2800mAh to 3250mAh is 450 more juice to drain. Has someone tested it? I've posted the link and a couple of pictures.

I just recieved two of them from Ebay. Charged one in the charging cradle, took a little longer than the stock battery. Installed it in the phone last night and will report on my findings. Everything seems fine so far.

Can you please also try the NFC feature if you have another phone with NFC capability? And also, whether the SOT improves or if it remains the same. and finally, in comparison to the other battery, how long does the phone last , based on your average usage (say: wifi on/off, usual brightness or auto brightness, etc. ) Let us know. Thanks

I have the G4 and I'm sure you can find one for just 1 pcs
Here's one from brand TQTHL which I would trust as I have 2 for my G4 and both work great

I have tested for two day and although I haven't gotten any numbers to prove it...the battery works great. It does last longer with the same usage...but I wouldn't say that the difference is huge but it does have a little more endurance. I'd say that if you are looking for an extra battery...this is not a bad choice especially just to keep as a spare. Everything works fine as well.
Also...it may take a few cycles to get the battery calibrated...my first discharge I was disappointed because it dad extremely fast but after letting it run down and charging it a few times it seems to last a little longer than stock. I'll leave the battery in for a while and if I get time to collect screen on before I charge it I will.

I think one would see a real difference if it had 900mah ane up more than usual. I was kind of expecting for that though. Hahaha. But i have the feeling they will release an eveb bigger one. Something like 4000mAh+ but you have provided us with great detail. Thank you. If you have the SOT in the future feel free to provide if

I doubt we will see anything much larger in the same size. Batteries have limited capacity/cm3, and LG, being one of the best and largest battery manufacturer, maxed out on that value. The problem here is the physical size of the battery cell...

Actually Zerolemon emailed me and said they are working on a battery for the G5 as we speak. They can be miracle workers lol

They managed to do that by replacing the back cover with their own "case", including an extra-size cell. The G5's different battery removal mechanics make it a lot less viable option, especially adding the bottom module (which houses not just the USB connector, but speakers, microphone, and some antennas) as a cost.
My original comment was directed at the allegedly 3200/3250mAh cells popping up for 5-10$ a piece. There's a reason why official LG cells are 25$, and these after-market ones cost less than half of that. Sure, LG needs to cover the development costs, but I'm pretty sure the after-market ones are so cheap mainly because of corner cutting. And that comes with extended hazard. But if you feel like ruining your 600$+ phone because you went cheap and paid 10$ instead of 25$ for a battery... It's your call.

They could create a module similar to the Cam+ that has an 'extra' battery in it. Maybe slimmer but further up the case.

I have been following the forum site for lg g5 modules development and untill now no one has has stepped up with the idea (no one that would have the knowledge to start building a module for the g5 at least)

The TLDR: Actual mAh was was tested reliably (external discharge, outside of the phone) and batteries with the same label style as the two linked in the OP actually had roughly 30% and 50% of their stated capacity, and much less than stock.
I've got a G5 coming this week. I wouldn't be against doing another thread like the one I did in 2012 on the Sensation, if there's demand.

The mixed reviews are in part my fault. I'm one of the reviewers with that battery and for some reason Amazon will not post my updated review, I've tried 3 different occasions to post follow ups but they won't post.
What I learned with that battery is it works, only it does give me the invalid battery message and the phone shuts off but only if I reboot the phone at 100% battery life, upon booting the phone reports 50% charge and shuts off. You have to restart it a couple times until it's used a percentage or 2, then it boots fine. I emailed the seller about it and they responded with the cells are tested and they only use quality parts, they sent me another battery but that one does the same as the original. With the issue with the note 7 and other phones/chargers I stopped using the battery. It might be perfectly safe but I can't determine that and the risk is not one I am willing to wait and see. So, after the first full charge and discharge to 11%, I'm getting very good times better than stock. This will probably increase with a few more charging cycles. My opinion is this battery is definitely more mA. I will review more when later.
