Lowered Quadrant score after updating to 4.2.2 - G Tablet General

I was getting 2400+ on TNT 4.1.0.
Then after wipe and successful update to current 4.2.2. Everything appears to be fine and market and apps working properly. I noticed by Quadrant score is now only about 1700.
What did I break?
Any help is much appreciated.!

2300+ on mine with TNT 4.2.2.. weird

1700 is definitely weird. 2300 is about right for mine, when I tested it.
Perhaps do a retest and make sure you don't have anything running in the background. Just a guess.

I ran it numerous times afterward and still only score around 1700. No error or FC.
hmm...
Should I try the tegra/performance pack for the older builds?
Good thing I had a backup point (4.1.0) just before upgrading to the latest (4.2.2) and switching to that gave me the 2400+.
Then switching up to 4.2.2, again, I still only get ~1700.
roebeet: Thanks for all that you do. I would not have kept the gtab had it not for you chefs in this forum!

4.2.2 has updated Tegra drivers, to fix tearing. I'm wondering if that's killing the performance - you might want to install just 4.2.0. And btw, you had 4.2.0 as a base, I assume? 4.2.2 is the supplement for 4.2.0, not 4.1.0 (rule of thumb is that the supplement is only good for the minor revision before it -- so 4.2.2 is for 4.2.0, 4.1.1 would be for 4.1.0 etc.)

Right!. I went to 4.2.0 before 4.2.2 supplement.
I will try from 4.1.0 to 4.2.0 when I get home and then try Quadrant again. I suspected that Tegra driver to fix tearing also...
Anyone else running 4.2.2 having normal (~2400) score?

4.2.3 getting uploaded shortly, please try it out
Possible Quadrant bump (very small), but Nenamark gets bumped from 28fps to at least 40fps. That's significant.
Quadrant is ~2400 for me.

I'm running 4.2.1 + all the changes included in 4.2.2 (map rotation, etc.), and I'm consistently getting a Quadrant score of 2300+

4.2.2 for with Quadrant of 2185

Ran again = 2329

All good again. Back to ~2400 going from 4.2.2 to 4.2.3.

Xoom WiFi Soak Test ... 4.1.1 Performing Poorly For Anyone Else?

Just wanted to see if anyone else in here with the soak test build is noticing a 4.1.1 experience that is lacking. 4.1.1 on my Xoom seems to be missing the buttery smoothness in Project Butter. All stock, and the screen transition's frame rates are the same as in 4.0.4. The new transition effects are there, but it's far from being as buttery smooth as my Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus.

I'm pleased somebody else has noticed this, I've only had the OTA update for a couple of hours and was wondering what all the hullabaloo was about.
Performance and responsiveness seems on par with ICS IMO, Perhaps it will improve with a factory reset which I will do later.
Using Dolphin browser I have noticed that some video reports on online news sites seem to be very stuttery and not as good as they were with ICS, presumably due to the lack of flash support in JB.
I just got OTA 4.0.4 ICS (wth) wheres JB?
My experience is different. I always Factory Reset my devices when changing OS names (HC to ICS, ICS to JB) as I don't like having all the settings/configurations/app data stuff "upgraded" in place and prefer a clean install of the OS (upgrade OS then Factory Reset) and then configure and install my apps.
I was running my Xoom on stock ICS with root and a 1.5ghz kernel. My Xoom on stock (but rooted) JB at 1.0ghz feels exactly the same if not even a tad smoother more fluid, especially switching between apps. Even running 500 Mhz slower, it suffers no loss and feels to have made a some gains. Looking forward to running an overclock kernel on JB.
ICS 4.0.4 @ 1.5 ghz smooth/fluid
JB 4.1.1 @ 1.0 ghz just as smooth/fluid, maybe even a little more

Mine was running like garbage after the update as well. Had the same issue after the ICS update (resolved that by taking the images off of my Xoom). This time I went ahead and did a factory wipe. Night and day difference - the thing is flying now.
Just got JB. Not really impressed so far tbh. No visible difference in speed, and animations are very laggy now.
Edit: Also, the boot animation hasn't changed. Starting to wonder if something's gone horribly horribly wrong here. (Version: 4.1.1, build number JRO03H)

No, all is well. The boot animation did not change. I feel that the update gets faster over time. Do a reset, then use extensively for a few days and I bet you will be buttery smooth in no time

Significant Performance Decrease after swap from TrickDroid to ViperOneS

I have been using TrickDroid V6.2 as my daily driver for nearly a month now. It is a phenomenal ROM and has worked extremely well. I recently switched to ViperOneS after reading all the great accolades (including from torxx himself). The ROM is excellent as well and seems noticeably smoother than TrickDroid to me. Strangely, I ran Antutu benchmark using both ROMs and found a huge disparity in performance. The TrickDroid variant clocked in with a score around 7700. The ViperOneS variant clocked in at a measly 2300. This is using the very same One S phone. I still consider the ViperOneS ROM to run noticeably smoother than TrickDroid, but am confused by the huge disparity in performance.
Another interesting note, I ran the TrickDroid test without closing any other open programs, but closed all programs prior to running the ViperOneS test.
Any insight is appreciated.
*I reran Antutu on my phone (currently using ViperOneS) and score shows 3300.
Solutions:
- ROM reflash
- Different kernel
My issue has been resolved and the ROM is performing better than anything I've tried thus far. Running ViperOneS v1.1 with Fusion UV kernel.

Although I agree to some degree, it's still strange to have such a difference with only a ROM swap. Any ideas what might be the root cause?
Possible that the io scheduler is responsible. Try changing it and see what happens.
Edit>> Here is a link to a post of mine where I posted a screenshot of my quadrant benchmark http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30850098&postcount=1125
I get some of the best benchmarks and GUI smoothness with this ROM. Benchmarks do NOT matter at all, by the way. They just spit-ball the range of performance your device may or may not be able to handle. Smoothness, load times, etc... are what matter in reality.
Strangely, the new kernel included in the 2.21/2.31 RUU updates drastically improved my benchmark scores...not that it matters anyway. As many people above have said, benchmarks really do nothing and are quite easy to trick. I remember disabling EXT4 journaling on the Galaxy Player jumped my quadrant score by 1000.
@klin: That wouldn'T make sense in realtime usage
Thanks for the feedback fellas. Appreciate the input.
Went from TD7.10 (the end) to stock to Viper, no good
About 2 weeks back, I went back from Trickdroid 7.1.0 to One S stock. Though some of the items (lockups in camera) stopped, I wasn't really happy with the stock. Still no 4.1 update, just 4.0.4, so thinking about Trickdroid I saw Torxx went to Viper builds. I installed it with faith, however was very wrong: Network failures, USB mount failed, mobile network fails ever so often, data network not stable, Issues hanging up a call. Yes I did cache wipe, full data wipe etc. Still it came with these things. So I checked the Trickdroid site again: 8.0.0 (so 7.1.0 wasn't so much the end). Installed TD 8 and it works like a charm again. Just can't seem to find the Google Now which should be installed by the Tweaks....
My first Viper flash didn't seem to go so well either. I reflashed and everything seems to be working well now. Antutu is reporting in the 7000+ range again.
I would recommend reflashing if you're still interested in ViperOneS. If not, TrickDroid is a fine ROM, too.
I'm running Viper One S with fusion overclock UV kernel and have tried TrickDroid(s) and find the Viper smoother and better on battery life. I have gotten six hours screen on time with Viper.

Tnx. I might try it again later on. For now, TD is best in my opinion (based on stability and speed, not in customization perhaps). I am keeping track of Viper next to CM10. I still believe in Custom Roms for better use of your phone. Does the Viper Rom also include Google Now? Didn't see it..

I just flashed fusion kernel and have had a similar experience.
ROM runs extremely smoothly and battery performance is much better than what I had with TrickDroid. Strangely, TrickDroid preserved battery better at night (maintained about 2% more than Viper does).

Strange. I flashed the clemsy kernel (1.8GHz) and my quadrant score was only 5400 on performance Did you set your min and max both at 1.8?
The highest Ive got was 6247 with his kernal on performance mode and had data 2 sd also installed. Both of those tweaks help this tablet. I have also noticed that you may want to restart the tablet once after you flash your device with these tweaks. You can get to these speeds! I love my tablet at this point.
Been on Scotts ROM for a week or so awesome I must say.
I just flashed Clemsyn's latest and have been seeing lower scores in Quadrant below 5000 a few times.
I have the 1.8 OC the overall scores have dropped dramatically.
Guess I'll keep fiddling with things till the scores get back up there.
I think it might be System Tuner Pro bugging something.
Other than benchmarks the tablet still rocks!
Very smooth only 1 FC\reboot so far and that was Quadrant itself .. lol
Haven't had an ANR or reboot since flashing CleanROM-2.3 with Clemsyn's latest.

Yeah just keep messing with it, one question. I know a lot of people have ran into the bootloader preventing them to get higher clock speeds. Do you know if you are on the latest bootloader? Also do you know for sure you are running at a 1.8 OC? To check you can use the app Stability test and it should give you a frequency reading at the top.
I have been running ClearROM for about 3 days now and 2 days ago switched to Clemsyns kernal. I definitely think that CleanROM is a very smooth ROM however once I flashed Clemsyn's kernal I had a new meaning to smooth. Absolutely loving my tablet experience now. I went from the Prime to this speed demon, couldnt ask for a better tablet right now.

Update!
I had things pretty goofed up on the tabletron model TF700T last nite...I got tired of screwing up so I gave in.
Today I just started over and went straight to JB .18 seeing how slow and crappy Jellybean was for me I re-rooted using hiemanshu's tips.
Anyhoo short story longer: After a new install of CRom 2.3 and Clemsyn's Kernel me is happy!
Quadrant shows 6150 overall with IO at 7267 :cyclops: ... and that's in balanced because I never remember perf mode.
Sooooo we R good here...
Whew!
Glad you got it working man! I really havent seen a difference in performance mode and balanced mode when running the quadrant tests. I dont know if anything is actually running faster since the cpu is overclocked to 1.8 either way. The only way to change it I think is with setCPU or a similar app.

TF101 - Maximize Performance

As the TF101 has been around for a LONG time and much dev has gone into ROMs, Apps, and mods, I would like to know what is the most optimized setup for this device. I want to get the most out of my TF101 and I am wondering what the fastest most stable configuration is? Also what are cool uses for this tablet...i.e. any cool ways to unlock it? Any cool ways to use the sensors inside?
I am currently running KatKiss 4.2.2 #226 with the built in kernel.
OCed to 1504 and running SmartAss V2 and Noop governors.
Antutu Benchmarks at 9566 today.
Id say you have the best config already
Be sure to run in a terminal the two optimize scripts from time to time.
su
/etc/kat/optimizedb
/etc/kat/optimizestorage
That will keep it running in tip top shape.

Depends where you are. 4.0.3 to 4.1 is a HUGE step in performance and smoothness. 4.2 is slightly faster and 4.3 is even faster feeling to me.
Most users who go from 4.0.3 to 4.2 or 4.3 are AMAZED how it feels like a brand new updated tablet.
I am actually already on KatKiss 4.2.2 so I'm wondering if it's worth it.

I feel like it is faster.
My suggestion - backup KatKiss 4.2.2 in TWRP.
Dirty flash to 4.3 (you can dirty flash from 4.2.2 to 4.3 but cannot dirty flash from 4.3 to 4.2.2)
See if you like it better.
If not, restore 4.2.2.
Also, many of the customizations in the Control Center are not implemented yet (mostly status bar and nav bar customizations like different color buttons, glass, different battery icons, etc)
If you live by these, stick with 4.2.2.
I may wait until there is a more mature stable version with less "things that don't work" I just ran the cleanup tasks suggested above and ran AnTuTu again and scored 14000+ so I'm pretty happy where I'm at =)
I find a good total wipe(minus sdcard) with a fresh rom once in a while speeds things up. Don't you find? I've been sticking with katkiss latest 4.3.1. Going from 4.2.2 to 4.3 had storage path issues. Not sure what else. Maybe stick with 4.2.2 for now if your satisfied. 4.3.1 is fine though. Then when its ready possibly switch to Katkiss 4.3.1 v27 with split screen. That might be cool.
Katkiss V27 if you want split screen and easy swap between apps which I love. I have been running Team EOS and then Katkiss for over a year (when including both) and pretty much upgrading my rom weekly whenever a new nightly came out. The Katkiss 4.3 v25 and up has not only been the best rom I have ever used on this hardware, they have also been the most stable without a doubt and even overclocked. I think 25 has been the most stable ever but I have not done a factory reset in awhile. It may be awhile for v27 to be stable since some apps really have issues with split screen. I think it is more an issue with the apps and not the rom.

[Q] So frustrated with the Relay!

Hi,
Does anyone else have problems with sluggish, choppy performance on their Relay? I swear, when I open contacts, go to my phone, even when answering calls it seems like it takes forever, and sometimes it's ambiguous as to whether or not the phone registers input when I tap the screen or buttons. Is there anything that can be done? Will a custom Cyanogen work better than the stock rom? Should I root it after to OC it?
Also, another question I wanted to ask was that I tried following the steps listed on the Cyanogen website (for Windows), and it gave me Linux command lines to run, and it seems that other custom roms aren't compatible with TWRP or Wifi (or something else is wrong that is needed).
Can anyone help? Thanks! :fingers-crossed:
I wouldn't call that normal. It's always had a tiny bit of lag, but only a tiny bit.
CM is faster, yes.
I feel you shouldn't overclock the relay, and that you shouldn't need to for it to perform well.
You mustn't use TWRP with CM. You have to use clockworkmod recovery. This is easily installed with heimdall on any platform, not just linux.

Also, it says, "The ICS bootloader and radio are not compatible with CM10.2" and gives you those two zip files to download...what should I do with those?
Edit: I just flashed the latest 10.2 nightly as well as Gapps and the two supplemental downloads and it appears to be working WAAAY better. Very fluid, very fast, and no lag comparatively speaking. I really can't believe how T-Mobile fouled up this phone with their garbage ROM.
Just a few questions:
Are there any other supplemental downloads recommended?
Is it possible to use a modified stock ROM that isn't so slow / laggy?
Thanks!

Thanks for the info, I wonder why Antutu is crashing. Did you do a factory reset before installing the rom?
Also for Quadrant Standard, any chance of more detailed scores so can compare, this is what I got on stock rom: Total: 6121 CPU: 9589 Mem: 11455 I/O: 6537 2D: 1000 3D: 2024

I don't know if I did a factory reset. Originally I tried overwriting, but then it wouldn't load. So I think that yes, I did select wipe / reset in Clockwork and then reinstalled, and it worked.
Here are my Quadrant scores:
CPU: 7432
Mem: 10233
IO: 3434
2D: 533
3D: 2190
And as far as Antutu, I tried individual testing, and while UX crashed and reset, everything else ranked at 13,096. It showed me a bar of individual tests but I didn't see any numbers.
By the way, can I root my device now that CM is installed? Can I unlock it?

Probably a problem with Quadrant Standard as I saw on YouTube some Nexus 4 on Android 4.3 score quite a bit lower. I decided to flash to CM10.2 in the end and it is awesome to use phone without the bloatware. Looks so much better. Also got score on AnTuTu of 17,784, ran stably on my phone.

You can root it but for unlocking I think you need the ICS stock rom as described on a thread on here: Link.

Also any feedback on battery life would be great and if you have ran into any issues yet?

Battery life seems more or less the same - but it's my second day using it. No performance issues so far but a few hiccups here and there.
Still, it's way better than the crap T-Mobile shipped it with.
Isn't the bluetooth flaky on CM on the Relay? I know it is on the Epic 4G. As fast as CM may be on Relay, I'd give that up for a stable bluetooth with stock Jelly Bean.
In my own experience, it seemed like it had a bit more lag after the OTA update from ICS to Jelly Bean. After I rooted it and froze (or removed) some of the bloatware, it's a bit less laggy.
I got my unlock code from T-Mobile a while back, and when I picked up an LG Optimus F3 (woohoo, LTE!), I got an H2O PAYG sim for the Relay. The unlock wasn't a problem on JB.
I'm still thinking of putting CM on it, though. I like the idea of cutting the bloatware down to absolute zero.

Seems similar to me too regarding battery life. Maybe stock with power saving mode could help eek out the battery a bit longer.

Is this only with Wi-Fi on? I haven't tried out the bluetooth yet on the Relay.
So far, bluetooth works in my car flawless. Wifi works, but I'm not sure if Wifi calling is working or not.
Bluetooth under the CM10.2 nightlies should be fine. Bluetooth at the same time as WiFi can lead to some performance issues, but it can be alleviated by turning one or the other off, or by using 5.8GHz WiFi.
I guess a reason can arise where you can/want to use both wifi and bluetooth at the same time...but I can't think of any and typically I only use one or the other. So yeah, I meant bluetooth without wifi turned on.

A common use case would be something like streaming a podcast/music/whatever over WiFi to a Bluetooth Headset while at the gym (or to a Bluetooth receiver in the house).
It's not MY use case, just think it's a reasonably common one.
For now, the functionality of BT and WiFi works insomuch as my wife's phone connects to WiFi where we need to, and Bluetooth in the car.

Ah ok. Is there any delay that you know of?

I got ya. :good: But normally I'd just use one or the other, not both simultaneously. CM came up, so I was wondering about that, especially in regards to the thread's title. lol When I get this phone (there doesn't seem to be anything more powerful than the Relay 4G with a physical keyboard at the moment), besides using it as, well, a phone, I'll use the Bluetooth functionality a lot, too. If its flaky on CM 10.2, I'll just deal with stock rom.
