My phone is charging and it's draining...-_-. Using VMax Kernel 1.2 @ 1ghz with CM7 Nightly #34. How is this happened?
Also my phone gets really HOT at the top. I'm just doing normal stuff on it too.
Trying Bionox v1.3 with Trinity Max 1.1 @1ghz and it's still happening.
Do I need a new battery or is this a whole hard ware problem?
Having everything on gps, Bluetooth, wifi, max screen brightness, as well as using it at the same time will give very little charge if not drainage. If the above is true, you're just draining more mA than your charger can keep up with. Which is completely normal.

Only thing that's on from the things you mentioned is the brightness (which is at highest level) , but bluetooth and gps is off.

You're overclocking and complaining about battery drain? Try stock and see if the same thing happens first?
I believe the stock wall charger is rated at 700 mA. If you're consuming more than that with your screen on then you'll see drainage. You can check your drainage with the battery monitor apps on the market. If you have a lot of bright colors as well as max brightness then yeah, you, really probably draining more. Vmax kernels use more power as well.

Okay nvm the battery still drained by 1%, it was charging for about 40min, with the screen off and everything with stock kernel and stock rom, I feel like this is either a battery problem or a hardware problem. WTF I'm mad.

lol I frequently run like that while I'm driving somewhere new. Always have my BT in, of course I have GPS on, and the screen might be a little bright. Usually, I leave on WiFi just out of laziness. I always charge my phone while I'm doing this using a $4 charger I got off of Amazon and it always shoots up very quickly. An hour or two long drive will give me almost a full charge.

I woke up this morning at 5am an found that my Thunderbolt was running very hot. 60 degrees Celsius to be exact and the phones charging led was flashing from amber to green very quickly. I pulled the phone off its stock charger and pulled the battery to find that the battery its self was very hot and even producing and odd smell. I let the phone cool for five mins an once cold to the touch, I installed my spare battery and with heavy use, I am back to running temp of 34c and not sure what caused this??? Phone is rooted an running Bamf 1.6.2 overclocked to 1.4 and has been running like this since may 5th with no issues. I have noticed in the past two days, so very rapid battery drain but haven't installed anything new and i have all HTC sense apps not syncing... Any ideas?

Do you use SetCPU to overclock? I would recommend it, as I think it would've prevented your phone from overheating.
I have 3 profiles set up, and then have the overall max set to 1.4ghz and min set to 245mhz using Smartass. I've found it's always a good idea to have a profile set up to limit the overclocking when the temperature is >50C, to prevent damage to the CPU. I have a profile to limit the max OC when the phone is charging, to help prevent it from overheating. I also use a profile to limit the max when the screen is off, since you don't need the extra speed then, and it helps on battery life. My profiles are:
Temp > 50C - Max=768; Min=245
Screen Off - Max=368; Min=245
Charging - Max=1024; Min=245
Just set up all these profiles and even added another. Thanks for the tip! I hope this helps with battery life also.

Are any of the governors better than the others for handling this?
The goverer used really depends on your own personal usage of the phone. Experment and see which works best for you. FWIW I use interactive and am pretty happy with it.
Ill try that one out. I found Ondemand to waste too much battery, and smartass to be passable.
i just had something weird happen myself. i just installed NONS3NS3 rom and then 'adownloader'. had it downloading a file then all of a sudden the phone locked up and was completely unresponsive. i pulled the battery and it was incredibly hot. waited for it to cool down and now everything is normal again. bizarre, because i could use adownloader just fine when i was on CM7.
My phone gets warm to when i charge it but not 60c. The kernel can cause this too.

I don't think the battery has any issue. When a Li-on battery fails, it will create a lot of heat, but it will also alter the resistance and voltage characteristics in ways the phone will detect.
If SetCPU resolved the issue, then you've got an issue with your ROM. It shouldn't do that under normal circumstances, and even if you're using SetCPU, something is still trying to use resources abusively. I'd try a different ROM or radio and get SetCPU off of there. It's actually abusive in itself with resources. It's great for testing OC settings, but for long term implementations of settings, a script is the ideal tool for the job as it implements setting directly to the kernel with no further intervention.
I have a g2x that has absolutely horrid battery life when using WXCDMA. When using it on the go, I sometimes loose like 1% life per minute or so, getting quite warm in the process. Also, when these monsterous drains occur, it continues killing the battery while sleep.
When on wifi, the life is great. I have already tried all of the various fixes, but I haven't run across anything that would stop the wcdma modem from sucking so much power.
I'm wondering if reflashing the baseband would work? Is that file even available? Input is greatly appreciated, cause I am envious of people that can make it a full day on a charge....

"Flashed multiple roms" isn't helpful. Which roms did you flash? Have you tried CM7 or one based on CM?
Have you monitored your battery usage to figure out which apps are eating up your battery?
Do you turn GPS/bluetooth/wifi off when not in use?
Replaced battery (seems to help people who have over heating issues)?
The most common causes of the battery drain/overheating is a rouge app and/or just a bad battery. My battery never even gets warm. I've noticed that even after long periods of gaming or internet surfing that the phone is relatively cool, so it seems you definitely have a problem there. Finding that problem is key.
Before you jump the gun, my SETTINGS>ABOUT PHONE>BATTERY USE:
Cell Standby = 58%
Phone idle = 42%
Display = 2%
I don't know why that equals 102% but just roll with it. A good battery monitor app will tell you which specific application is eating battery. I don't use those as I don't have a need to since I don't have a problem, but check those out and report back.

I have a brand new sim card.
Yes I have tried cm 7
I haven't tried a new battery simply because its not the battery that gets really hot, its the phone, specifically the area around the camera lens.
Also it doesn't do this while on wifi.

I think the processor is around the camera lens. I tried flashing a rom that would simply not boot. It would go from the LG screen to a black screen and hang. That is the only time my phone has been warm around the camera lens.
So try to figure out what is taxing your processor and stop it. What rom are you running? You still haven't provided enough details. What about a battery monitor? What apps do you have installed?

Nothing was taxing the processor. This has happened on the stock rom with no added apps. Surfing the internet is what made it warm. I used an app called watchdog to see the cpu usage and nothing even went above 40%
i need help with this, im still pretty new to the whole root/overclock/unervolting thing. currently running gummycharged 2.1 with PBJ and V6 supercharger. Have voltage control maxed at 1200 set on VR and ondemand.

1000 -75
800&400 - 100
200&100 - 150
those are all number i have found that other have been using saying they get 14hours battery life. but in the last hour ive had my phone unplugged ive dropped to 76% battery.
Does anyone have any advice for me?

each phone is different so be careful when undervolting. i tried to set 1200 to -125 and my phone completely crashed and i had to do a factory reset. I'm actually on IMO kernel which doesnt suppost voltage control but after calibrating i got a good 13-14 hours, granted there werent many phone calls which eats up most of ur battery life, but i was playing games alot, downloaded some apps n such. I figure since i read that imnuts is working on an update to fix a couple issues with pjb ill just stick with IMO until the new pjb is posted. Im also using tweakstock, so maybe u should try that ROM, gummy (from waht ive heard) is pretty outdated at this point. depending on what theme u like id chhose between tweakstock and eclipse. both r very stable.

You can't really calibrate the battery, it will always report the same voltage for a given % charge, within a certain margin of error. Wiping battery stats has been shown to do nothing relating to the indicator of the battery remaining, and is almost always part of a "battery calibration".

Interesting. So it's just to give a semi-accurate percentage of battery remaining based off of the voltage given by the battery?

Your battery will always seem wonky after a flash. At least in my experience it takes some time for your phone to "get used to" the battery. Almost always it seems the 2nd day with a new ROM lasts longer than the first. And the 2nd week better than the first week.

its not really a 100% with those kernels, he will still actually charge to his 95% even though itll say 100%. its just a cosmetic fix. if you actually want to see 100%, charge it to your normal 95% then charge the rest of the way with your screen on. itll eventually hit 100%.

should i get a new battery?
Yeah that doesn't happen to me... I would try a full wipe and reflash the same ROM (or a different one) and reflash kernel.
If that doesn't work then I would try another battery because that drain seems abnormal
I just wanted to say that I have been having similar battery problems. Using the exact same ROM and Kernel as the OP, today my phone died within 6 hours of use, with the screen having been on for no more than 50 minutes. I also turned off data, and sync during this time, and had my screen's brightness at the minimum.
I've wiped and flashed AOKP b-38 today, and the consumption seems to be much better.
Any thing to help?
thought i was the only one.
is it the kernal?
or is it because its time for a new battery?
How could I test to find out which it is...
Swap kernels. Probably easiest way to test.
Very possible its just an old worn out battery.

hoping its just an old battery.
ive switched to CM9 / TouchWiz mod thinking it might be the ROM
im going to use the stock kernal from CM9 for a day to see if i could tell a difference.

Well in that case, what have you got installed? If you have apps constantly syncing, that could be part of the problem. What are your battery stats saying is using the most battery? My phone gets warm, but as expected since its being used. If its not being used,it could be a rogue app or the phone could be constantly searching for a good signal.
