[Q] EXT2 tools won't install on OCLF. - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hello i've just managed to root my Samsung Galaxy S eventually it worked. But now when ever i try to use One click lag fix and install EXT2 Tools it says: You need 1b availaible in system/lib to install this, then when i click force anyways it just says no space left on device. Do i have to partition my phone storage or something or does it have to do with the fact i didnt use OCLF to install the root. i used Super one click.

Any1??????????????????

Having the same issue.

Have you tried the RESTORE BOOT ANIMATION procedure on OCLF?

[Q] Bizarre root issue - just won't root

Hey guys,
I'm new to Android and I'm having an issue with my device. I flashed Design Gears' 2.2 ROM to my device, and encountered the WiFi WEP authentication issue (Obtaining IP address). I reflashed 2.2 and it's no longer a problem.
I do want to apply the Market Fix and also Unleash the Beast, but the problem I am running into is the following error:
E:Signature verification failed
I have tried using 3 different update.zip files on the internal SD card, and I have also both the Windows and Mac one-click root utilities, all of which give me that error.
What am I doing wrong here?
So you are on ji6 build 2.2
I believe you will want to swap kernels in order to root. Have you rooted 2.2 before?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
No I haven't been able to get it rooted. I have tried the one-click and copy/paste of the update.zip, neither have worked. When I get to recovery mode, I select "Reinstall packages" and it tosses me the "E:Signature verification failed" error.
Ji6 has a recovery that prevents you from flashing unsigned updates. Here is a guide to root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797444
I would consider trying another custom rom but that is just me
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
They patched the root exploit.
Use a kernel with 2e recovery.
Thanks for the link.
Regarding a different ROM, is there something that's nearly Vanilla Android? I sort of dislike TouchWiz and its UI.
I am not the best to answer that. I use docs rom. It uses launcher pro as default launcher
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Thanks for all the feedback guys... I will be trying out the kernel swap shortly.
What's the deal with removing bloatware? Is this all done through the Terminal on the computer once I get the thing rooted?

[Q] missing apps theory

Is it possible to flash via odin and cwm and some gremlins still lurk. I ask because i've flashed 3 roms today and each one seem to have the same issue with missing market app and such. I don't know if it's a app i'm using, but it seems wierd. I went from Gingerbread (where it started) back to froyo and flashed 2 froyo roms with the issue
Try RaverX3X's KC1. Unfortunately, I don't have the link, so look for it on this forum. That should clear up all gremlins you have.
Yeah i tried that the last time. Possibly I should do my flashing straight from that with the required stuff to get root?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
im getting the same issue, I've Odin stock kc1 without root then gained root, installed cwm. Then proceeded to install Audiophile Series: Redux. Still has the same issue. I've even odin gb Kg4, KG5, KH1, & KH2. All gave me the same problem. Everything works perfect up until I shutdown my phone and reboot it. Then I get the grey android icon with these apps:
com.amazon.venezla (Amazon Appstore)
com.monotype.android.font.felbridge (felbridge font)
com.quoord.tapatalkxdapre.activity (XDA premium)
com.touchtype.swiftkey (swiftkey)
net.everythingandroid.smspopup (Smspopup)
org.projectvoodoo.controlapp (Voodoo)
& of course my market app does not work either, even when i install the new market it force closes.
I have also not dont ext4 conversion, so that cant be this issue
Anybody know how to fix this problem?
Try flashing the KC1 Cleanup Rom first. That's at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1129933
Then flash KC1 etc.
i figured it out. Thanks!!

What worked for you? I have the same problem -- lost marketplace app and not sure what to do besides reflashing.
Curious that not everyone else is having this problem as I used the "Step by Step on how to flash any Gingerbread rom". Maybe it's occurring when EXT4 is done.
Lol I'm sitting here and reading all the posts and lolling XD.Just reboot onto recovery and go to mounts there normally should be MUUM but when apps are missing there is MMUM (i think i got that right, the unwanted mount should be data ) after you unmount data reboot and voila none of the apps are missing.

EDIT: don't forget about fixing permissions after rebooting

Mounts should always be UMMU. You got it the other way around.
You guys should check out my thread.

If you just want a Froyo cleanup only flash the KC1 ROM, if you want the GB cleanup, follow all the steps in the guide.

From my experience over the past couple weeks and through dsextons posts, I believe the issue is that your phone was still partially ext-4 when you flashed.

Installing apk files - App not installed? ???

Hi all, bare with me, i hope this is in the correct place as have searched and cant find a thing. Just come from an iphone to samsung note so be gentle..
I am trying to install. Apk files from several locations , phone memory, sd card, network..
But i keep receiving "App not installed." Message 99% of the time, every now and then it will work, but i have no idea whats going on please help.
I am running stock 2.3.6 gingerbread, unrooted as that wont work either :/
Using XDA Premium (GT-N7000)
This might not be any help but i had the same problem on my infuse i flashed back to froyo then installed 2.3.6 +root and it went away

Under settings> applications do you have unknown sources checked? If not, that is most likely your problem.
Yeah have unknown sources checked, but just will hardly ever install anything. Dont get it
Took me about 50 tries to install angry birds ffs!
Using XDA Premium (GT-N7000)
Some apps need to be installed via Root Explorer by placing it to some folder.
So why after so many attempts did it work? ??
Also why do some apps insist on only working from the phone memory and not external sd card, is my 64gb card going to be useless?
Using Tapatalk (GT-N7000)
Dunno, its weird.

Didnt you clear some space between some tries?
I have 63gb free on my sd card, and 11.5 gb on my internal space lol

Hmmmm, that´s strange...perhaps the update may fix it.
Update?
Using XDA Premium (GT-N7000)
You should root it, flash a custom rom, remove the unused applications, this will make it a much faster.I'd recommend you flash the Gadgetcheck's RevoHD for Note, its perfect.
Now, when you try to install an application from any other place but market, its normal to not be able to. If you are not rooted you shouldnt be able to as well.
When I try to install an application that I have downloaded from somewhere else I think it requires superuser permissions and I have to go to Settings/Applications/Unknown sources and check it.Doing this might solve your problems.
But cant tell for sure, I'm an owner of S II not note.
Good luck.
I cant root it though
Using XDA Premium (GT-N7000)
check the Unknown source first
Already done.

That not right, its a installed file, so you have to place it in its original folder. then restart & done
install a custom rom simples also why do you have to install that way there is a thing called the market i have a seeking suspicion that the apps you want to install a pirated we all do it
Hi there... just some ideas and few questions
First off all... is that a new samsung from a store or you bought it from someone else ?
What to try:
- Shutdown the phone
- remove the SD card
- after that boot normaly into the OS
- then go to settings - applications and find the market / play store app
- Click on it, FORCE CLOSE if you can and clear the CACHE
- After that try to install any app.
Tell me whats happening after that all.
gl
Airplayit isnt on the store.
Ive tried all of that, just wont install.
Its a brand new phone and i cant install a cystom rom, it wont root ive tried.
Using XDA Premium (GT-N7000)
To manually install an app, you'll need root access. Try asking in the q&a forum for your specific device for help with that.
After you've gotten root access (however you do it), copy the .apk to /system/app (you can use a adb, a terminal emulator, or a third party file manager to do this)
Then, change the permissions on the file to so that owner, group, and users all have read and write (but not execute) permissions (that's 644 if you're using chmod)
Here's a link that explains how to manually install an app contained in taskmanager.apk
http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2012/03/task-manager-for-cm-rom-on-gt-s5570.html
If you read the explanations (after the he steps you through the process) it's easy to apply this same process to any other .apk no matter where it's stored.

[Q] Removing system apps

I have rooted my at&t avail. <gingerbread> What is the easiest app that I can use to delete all the preloaded apps? Something easy for a non geek?
Titanium backup
I'm your huckleberry
You may want to use titanium backup to freeze them first then see how everything operates. Uninstalling some system apps can screw up said system. If everything works, then uninstall. It would also be a good idea to flash a custom recovery and use that to backup your system (just in case) .

I agree. Freezing the apps first will ensure you don't remove anything that is needed. If something doesn't work you just unfreeze it. When your happy everything works then you can remove the frozen apps.

Use root explorer to remove any system app
But check out beforehand that which are the essential app and which are bloatwares !
In root explorer go to system folder --app folder--here you find all such system apps

"Operation failed" on rooted i727

Running untouched JB leak 2.
ROM is the stablest, smoothest I've seen, but all 3 root explorers I tried after flashing Mohan's insecure kernel and the SuperSU-0.93-Busybox-1.20.2 zip gave that error when renaming most apks.
The cleanup and unroot procedures in the updated Su app left me wondering too, with no apparent effectiveness.
Is it all that different in JB where I shouldn't expect to debloat this way? ...or did I miss something in the rooting process?

At one point I wiped caches, but that made no change. Data wiping shouldn't be necessary here, so I didn't.

or you can try this rom [UCLL3] SUPERLITE UNOFFICIAL SAMSUNG JB 4.1.2 >> 202mb << ROOTED - INSECURE KERNEL - INIT.D
you can add back what you want from there also
Much appreciated, thank you Vincom. I'm keeping my SR as close to stock JB leak2 as I can.
Everything's already there when I need it and this rom is as stable as the ICS I was using, a dd for on the job that's low maintenance.
I want to take a subtractive more than an additive approach to features, so I'm trying to figure out why, for example, in my rooted app folder only one of the Accuweather... files could be successfully renamed.
My other question is whether a different su app might function more fully in JB, since the 2 commands I mentioned in OP seemed ineffective.

the reason you cant remove or rename something is because it is being used by android, its like trying to delete a file on a computer while its being used by another program.
use titu to do what you want

Thanks again Vincom! I'm not a tibu fan but I spent a few more minutes at [HOWTO] THE ULTIMATE NEWB GUIDE and tried again. For my needs, I
Flashed Chainfire's CWM-SuperSU-v0.99.zip,
verified root using Root Checker,
quarantined using App Quarantine what I hadn't already disabled using stock methods.
Explorer+ still can't rename the files you said were 'locked', but my phone boots 5 sec. faster.
