Question before flashing. Backing up everything

Before I flash to paragon I have a question. Currently iam on cognition2.17(i think). Can I use rom manager to back up my phone in its current state(with contacts, apps, settings, txt msgs and so fourth)?

If your question is can you rom manager backup then restore over paragon, no.
Titanium backup for user apps
Export contacts to sd

Its if I don't like paragon, I can revert back to my current set up.

If you flash cog first then restore, yes.
But you need to flash cog first, and if you are on 2.17 make sure it is 2.17 and not a 2.2 variant

Does rom manager backup apps like titanium?

Not exactly, rom manager can help you make a backup of your rom. This includes apps, TB just restores your applications ac/dc system data. So restoring one only does apps, the other restores a previous rom.

Want to delete bloatware from my girlfriends droid 2 global. Will simple root do this? allow me to delete with an uninstaller?

Yes, although the smarter idea is just to rename them so they are still on there if you need to revert.

I typically just cut/paste the files to a folder on the SD Card so I can put them back (if you are not running a custom ROM) when its time to get an update d/l. You get the space, the icons are gone and life is good.

Get titanium backup root off the market and just freeze the bloat you don't want. Removes them from app drawer but keeps them on phone in case you need them back. Also you can backup system data and all apps if you ever have to do a data/cache wipe(if you flash a new rom). Angelrom and fenom are both very stable and fast, with all the bloat already removed.

can someone tell us if removing bloat thru root explorer will delete the whole app? Iv read that it does and that it doesnt and the apps still show? clarification on this would be appreciated.. thanks much!

I delete my apps using rootexplorer. I go through system/app and delete from there. Also you can use titanium backup and freeze your apps you don't want to use.

i use root explorer too, but when i try ti delete them, it said cannot deleted file system is read only

Click the Mount R/W button on the top so you can make changes.

I uninstalled them via titanium backup and they don't appear or run.

Can someone give us a list what all bloatware you can remove without damaging the software itself?

I use an app called Root App Remover, one click and they are gone, I recommend it.

Basically, you can use any application that can root uninstall. There's a dozen of them on the market.

Converting from Froyo to Gingerbread without losing data

Is there a way to convert stock Froyo to Gingerbread? I'm trying to convince my wife to upgrade simply for the battery life but she doesn't want to lose her settings or apps... I'm on Valhalla myself but I did a clean flash....

U can always use titanium backup. Its on the market for free and it backs up all your apps and data and then u download the app after a clean install and then u can restore them. But u have to be rooted

+1 for Titanium backup. Just make sure you only back up user apps and not user apps + system data. The system data from Froyo will not play nice on a GB rom.

Unfortunately, Titanium Backup is the only way. Just be sure to backup only user apps. When you restore, restore user apps and data.
Do not use a Froyo backup in CWM to advanced restore data, since that will mess up some important functions on GB.

Thanks, I'll try that... by the way, can you use a titanium backup pro license on 2 phones? No biggie, since I have a pro licence... otherwise I'll be getting another licence...

you can use it on two phones, if they are on the same google account.
there IS a way around this, so PM me and I will be happy to share.

Pro version of TB isn't needed if you are just backing up and restoring apps. The free version works fine for that.

Hmmm...I think I made a mistake...
After reading this I believe I made a mistake. I just flashed from Froyo to GB (Valhalla Black) and before doing so did a TB with apps & system data. Is there a way to recreate the 'accounts and sync' from my back up...it seems to FC when I try to access anything 'account' related. :/

Raver has said he did not include accounts and sync in his ROM. You can pull the .apk from another ROM and push it into your system. You may try this and see if it fixes your problem.

How to remove Apps?

Friends, yesterday i rooted my phone and downgraded it... Using this procedure

Titanium Backup Remove / Backup / Re-install

Hi there! Be aware that if you remove apps you won't be able to update via OTA unless you install them again. If you wish to stay stock, it may be better to just freeze those apps so they won't appear any longer. It's easy and you don't have to worry about the backup files
If space is an issue, install superuser and use Link2SD or any other methods to extend your internal space to the SD card.
