you should read the posts by Steve Maillet \ (eMVP \) at http://www.pocketpcjunkies.com/Uwe/...t-is-the-driver-API-call-to-register-a-device
im kind of new at this, i couldnt quite follow what he was talking about. im trying to manually load the wifi driver in my friends htc tornado .it suddenly stopped working after flashing a new rom.we tried 3 or 4 different roms before going back to the original rom but still the same result. in the comm manager it says driver not loaded. i wonder whats wrong since when we search for wifi the driver in the windows folder i.e tiacxwln.dll, you find that its still there.
If the driver is not loaded at startup with a shipped ROM than the device is either broken or has no WIFI. The Tornado has two flavors, one without and one with WIFI. If the HW is not on the PBA (or broken) then the driver will not load.
Look up the IMEI of the device (*#06*). If it starts with 356298 it is a QTEK 8310 (with WIFI) if it starts with 356536 it is an O2 XDA Phone (no WIFI) or a similar built device. This is true for all such devices that have crossed my desk - but I am limited to Germany, so I have no clue about American (T-Mobile SDA there - has WIFI) or French (Orange SPV C600 - has no WIFI)
Best evidence comes from opening the device. Under the LCD there is the WIFI chip. If you see blank space and unsoldered contacts then the device has no WIFI HW.
Lets discuss this in the Tornado Forum
it shows 356537.... i think the hardware might be broken since it worked before flashing new rom.i will ask him if has dropped the phone before

Hello!
I have an Imate Jamin - it is quite an early model - it has black send/receive keys (bought it on February 2006).
The fact is that the camera and the Wifi do not work. When I start the camera application I see the clock icon for a second and then nothing happens (I remain at the exact screen). The wifi on the othe rhand seems to try to detect networks but never finds anything.
So.. the big question is whether this is software related (I have currently hard resetted and use S200's latest firmware) or hardware related. In other words two could happen:.
a. Either my model uses some older camera / wifi and thus the new firmware does not have proper drivers (has anyone else upgraded his eaelry jamin?)
or
b. Due to the many falls something has broken in my jamin (is this expected).
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help me with this - I cannot find any solution.. I tried downgrading to see if its firmware related but I got an error message.. (Invalid Command at 95%)
Thanks in advance

Which ROM did you install?
AKU 2.2, 2.3, or 3.2?
You have to download using an official ruu rom upgrade (downgrade), there are better people to tell you which one rather than me, I am quite new to this group. One of the upgrades does break wifi/camera so it is not just your phone, a download will cure it, you have not broken it.

I jsut dicovered my new G4's wifi has been disabled by operator. Can anyone help to activate it? There is a red cross over the comm manager on today screen. Please help!!
Do I feel silly or what.
I got rid of the icon (and the whole tray) so I didn't remember, but the cross just means your WiFi is off (not flight mode as I said earlier), which is the default state. Open the comm manager (you can use the button on the left side of the phone) and tap the antenna icon. this will turn WiFi on.
Just in case I am wrong (phone operators don't like devices with WiFi because it reduces data usage by customers) hard reset your phone and quickly soft reset before customization is installed (there should be a 3 second countdown).
What the above poster said.
Or perhaps flash your phone with a new/clean ROM from e.g. qtek. (here)
But flashing the device is not really everyone their thing, so you need to figure out whether you wanna do that at all. Giving it a hardreset without installing the extra apps almost gives the same result.
But don't forget to use the 'ROMUpdateUtility_NoID.exe ' when you try to update, else you get an error. But that's all in the topic there. And don't forget to fully charge battery before update
(hey, this is the upgrading part of website no bad to lead people to the dark side eh? )
wifi
I have tried so many romes and none of them will turn on my wifi is there some trick I need to know about? did you fix your wifi?
Well, when using a different rom I guess the operater doesn't have that much to do with it anymore.
Just when you go into the com-manager you see an icon that looks like an antenna thingy with a little cross next to it. Just press it and there you have wifi (should become yellow without the cross).
That should be working standard with a 'normal' rom like the new qtek one. Connecting is another story though once the wifi is enabled (connecting with wifi is a bit tricky at times).
I flashed the qtek rom on my Dopod 830 (bought in China) successfully. However, the wifi on the comm manager still failed to activate. So the assumption (conclusion) is China Telecom simply removed the the wifi chip.
I think you may just have a faulty device.
To my knowledge, no phone company actually has the facility, or would bother with the enormous cost of modifying devices in such a way.
Could you be more specific as to what happens? I have a feeling there is a big misunderstanding here somewhere.
You press the button on the side, the comm manager comes up, you click the icon with an antenna and...
a) noting happens.
b) error message pops up.
c) wait cursor (circle with 4 colors) appears, but the button remains with the x.
d) non of the above.
I think you may have rushed a bit with flashing different ROMs. Try putting the original ROM back, without the extended ROM and see what happens.
Thanks levenum! My problem is (c), there is a waiting sign and the icon remained x. The original rom is in simplified chinese CHS and now I am having the 2.20.7.34 wwe with everything running fine except wifi. Will try to flash back to a CHS rom and see what is happening.
Well that does sound like a hardware / driver problem, but it is more likely a fault than intentional deactivation.
Is the phone under warranty by chance?
If so, once you have the original ROM you might try getting it repaired in the lab.
Also check the phone details on the site of your phone company. Do they state this model has WiFi or do they 'conveniently' omit it.
I checked with China Telecom and Dopod, they said the wifi chip has been removed. I am not sure how they can remove the chip but many phones selling in China have got wifi removed. How can I know the wifi is physically removed or is jsut deactivated?

I have exactly the same problem with you, as I searched the forum, some poster tell that Dopod from China mobile, the wifi chip is factory removed.
Does anyone have the schematic of the full-function prophet, so i could locate the wifi chip position, so i can upgrade my Dopod 830 by hardware way
thanks
Answers of problems with different roms
I've tried all the WM6 ROM's that were build and would like to give all of you some of my feedback.
I think the problems and solutions are depending of wich brand, phone edition, country and provider you are using. For example the MDA –pro from T-Mobile has different hardware than the qtek 9000 that I'm using now. So this might explain why some testers have problems with their phone while others don't.
This is why it sometimes is difficult to locate the problem. I mean how often do you see that people are saying "I have this and that problem" while many others are saying "Nope, works fine with me"... At the moment I have and old MDA-pro from T-Mobile and a brand new Qtek 9000. After installing Ivan's wm6 on the T-Mobile and on the Qtek, i noticed that the T-Mobile phone started out with nothing but problems. After installation and soft-reset I had the following results.
T-Mobile
1. It freezed after 1rst soft-reset after installation.
2. 3G connection dropped.
3. Reconnect to internet very difficult
4. Phone on, signal on but call don’t come trough?
5. Works better with radio 1.09
6. Bleutooth sucks with headsets and internet sharing
7. Often have problems with the windows media player
8. Synchronising takes ages (using Vista Ultimate)
Qtek 9000
1 No problems
2 3G on for 3 days now
3 Reconnection better but still not perfect.
4 Don’t have this problem
5 Same here, but as said can be provider
6 Lose my paired device (parrot CK3100)
mostly after a day or 2 quite irritating.
7 No problems until I use the hibernate
when installed not correct.
8 Synchronising works o.k. (using Vista Ultimate)
I can’t make complete list of all the bugs, but I just wanted to give you an example of the differences between these two phones.
The Rom from Ivan and Midget are one of the best at the moment.
Still I have some problems with their latest built (V3) and these bugs are based on my latest HTC Universal.
- As mentioned I lose my paired carkit device
- After changing settings (don’t know wich settings trigger this but..) you can’t create or edit a new email account. I haven’t install any programs, just synchronized with my laptop (OS Vista Ultimate)
Hi there,
I am having some very annoying problems with my phone and getting it to connect to the internet. I have the Orange branded SPV E650 and have flashed it with the new Windows Mobile 6.5 beta rom. Strangely (as with other roms aswell so Im not saying its a problem with them rom!) I cannot access the internet on it. I have tried going to the Orange website and getting the GPRS connection settings sent and they saved fine and I can see them but IE still wont connect with the following error: "Failed to connect to the internet. Data coverage may be unavailable". So after those settings didn't work I deleted them and tried using the Connection Setup application which retrieved settings based on my Orange network provider and being based in UK. That also inputs settings on to my phone but also IE still fails to connect. By doing it that way it sets up a proxy in connections but unsure if that helps, as whether i keep it and try to connect or delete it I still can't connect! I have signal so thats not the problem and also Orange say everythings ok at their end. Also in comms manager with the Data connections I cannot turn it on, a "G" icon on the signal icon in task bar flashes on and off, toggles between them like its trying to connect but does nothing eventually.
Im really stuck and tried different roms but experience the same!
Any ideas guys? Would love to receive some of the great knowledge found here!
Many thanks!
Craig

when i too faced the same problem, i tried this... u can also try, it might work for you too.
in the internet explorer, goto tools, options select connect to internet, instead of auto!
Hi guys,
I had the same problem with my SPV E650 ( aka HTC VOX ) . The problem is related to the WIFI adapter who keeps its IP number although not in use. You have to release manually the IP , or , better , go to : Start , Settings, Connections , select GPRS but do not click on it ! , ratter go menu ( bottom right ) , Advanced ( the only option ) , and there on Internet connection go to Orange Internet instead of Automatic, and voila ! ( or at least for me it worked fine ! )

P.S. please keep me posted. Thanks ,
Hi all,
I have the exact same problem. The phone, SPV E650 (HTC S710), orange branded, reflashed to WM6.5, tried more versions, but i can't get it to connect to the internet. No one found any solutions?
I have the same problem but even with the wifi, is
Explorer from MSN as I fix that?
Mine is a S710
ok, I found the solution in my case. the operator had to start the internet service for my number. weirdly, I had it activated some time ago...
hi guys, i no longe have a vox, now got a Touch Pro 2 (and loving it!) but the problem was that despite my request for internet with my service provider, they hadn't actually activated it, so all my attempts to solve a 'problem with my phone' were pointless lol. good luck guys!
I've exchanged my Vox to TP2 too. which Rom do you use on it?

I use The Cell Series V6 (eagerly awaiting V7 soon to be released!). It is perfect for me, it is fast and responsive, no problems with any feature like bluetooth/wifi not working and it has far better graphics than any other rom I have tried. If you haven't tried it i would suggest you do!
How about u?
Win Mob 6.5
I suggest an upgrade to winmo 6.5. It’s a great OS and works brilliantly on the Touch 2 Pro. The Honeycomb menu makes browsing so convenient. The windows Market Place is packed with Many applications that will interest you!
Hi,
I need help installing the htc mango driver v3 because with the current version i cant connect to my home wlan network which is built on a ddwrt router, before i installed the update everything was working fine, i also tried it my gf's IPhone and with it i can connect without a problem. I cooked my own custom rom firmware but i really dont know how to put the new htc driver in it.
I saw that the htc mango driver v3 is avialable for Htc Hd7..
Config: WPA2 encryption, mac filter disabled, dhcp
tried: DFT rom, Ansar Rom and the one which i created myself
Phone: HTC Trophy with custom rom
I hope someone can help me (((
I was having the same issue so I am looking into it now.
Hi i tried to flash a custom rom and after installing a wifi hack i was a able to set the ip. I also found this solution if you already have a developer unlocked phone:
sensboston said:
You can do that via the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\<YourAdapter>\Parms\TcpIp]
"EnableDHCP"=dword:0
"DefaultGateway"="192.168.1.1"
"UseZeroBroadcast"=dword:0
"IpAddress"="192.168.1.100"
"Subnetmask"="255.255.255.0"
4 example, <YourAdapter> for Samsung Focus is BCMSDDHD1
Of course, the "DefaultGateway" and "IpAddress" should fit your router settings (some routers configured to use 192.168.0.x subnet)

Hi there,
I have tried to figure out a solution for this problem for over a week, just today I thought I might fix it by installing the latest NextGen+ rom after taking pains to downgrade the spl.
But still no wifi... it seaches then shows "no networks found"...
My wildfire s.. picks up many. I have no MAC filtering, using DHCP and on channel 7.... tried everything.
I read someone called "thesmack" saying he fixed a similar issue by getting a "V3 Driver" update by HTC from XDA but I cant find it, and he didnt share any links.
Please if anyone knows the solution to this problem help me out, by having no wifi the phone is worth little.
I suggest you turn of wifi and then turn on bluetooth. reboot phone and turn on wifi. I had the same problem. but now is ok

Unfortunatly that didnt work. I flashed an old radio (nodo) to see if it would work, still nothing. But funnily this morning when I switched on the phone it showed the small "networks available" icon, yet when I went into wifi... it refused to let me see the page, then after a while of trying it came up and didnt detect anything.
This is SOME bug that its taken so long, with giants like MS and HTC unable to resolve it.
