[Q] {Q} How can I root DOCOMO SH-03C? (Lynx 3D) - General Questions and Answers

Been searching everywhere but still not found a way to root this device
Such a shame as its my first Android after years of crappy Japanese GUIs!
Great phone but the tiny memory under 2.1 is really irritating.

This is super late, but I'd also like to know if it is possible. Did you try the one-click root app?

Lynx owner here. Tried SuperOneClick, Z4 and Universal Androot. No love from any of them. Reports are that the Lynx might have NAND protection, similar to the EVO, and work might need to be done from the ground up. 2ch users have been at work on it, and photos are floating around of a Lynx with clockwork installed but comments that it won't work properly. If anyone can get other information, I'd love to hear it. My translation skills are paltry at best, and not having Docomo service makes it even more difficult :3

Yes I tried one-click and Z4 but no joy.
Apparently it is locked up pretty tight and being a japan only phone I dont think there is so much interest in rooting it.
I'm still searching every day though!

Finally decided to see what would happen if we did things from the command line. adb shell does reveal that, after running the psneuter exploit, we gain temporary root. I say temporary because, despite my best efforts, I'm unable to successfully remount the system. I have reason to believe the phone is trying to outsmart me, and it seems to be further confirmation of the write protected NAND.
Thoughts?

Fun strangeness: while trying to root this morning by running Super One Click through Parallels through Mac, got to the same error as before (root successful, but not able to access /system). Then, on a lark, I opened up unrevoked, to see what would happen. Not only did my phone not like it (immediately went into reboot mode) but it actually locked my computer until it finished rebooting! It was the strangest temper tantrum I've ever seen a phone throw, I wish I had video!
So, yea, no luck just yet.

I ready to give up hope on this phone and just wait for the 2.2 if it ever turns up.
Doesn't look like anyone has had any luck on any Japanese forums either. No permanent root.

Revolutionary Root

Hello all!
I am rooting a friends phone and am having a problem setting up ADB so I think I am going to give up on it and try this new revolutionary.io root system. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried this type of root and wanted to see what they thought about it, if theyve had any problems or just any other general things about it.
Thanks!
My friend rooted his phone with it...I remember he had to flash busy box and super user manually but obtained s off with no problem
Sent from ging3r3dth3ory
I used it to root my phone, about a week or two ago. No issues. S-Off .. etc.
I did have to manually install some tools like busybox, etc afterwards but so what. It was a quick, painless, no hassle method to achieve root. I would do it again if it came down to it and I recommend the method for anyone starting out, or not comfortable with the jcase "by hand" method, which I have absolutely no problems with either.
There are some great videos on You Tube showing how to do both methods, taking away any anxiety a first timer (like I was) had. I decided to try the Revolution method first to see if it would actually work, and it did.

+1 , I used it also. Very easy, just make sure you read the instructions or watch the you tube video.

I used Revolutionary.io on (2) phones in the past 2-3 weeks. It worked flawlessly. Any issues are in most cases, user-related !
I rooted with revolutionary watching a youtube vid made by nat3mil. Everything went flawlessly, seems like a legit way to root. They also have the unroot for revolutionary out now. My phone has performed great with this root method. i would recommend it, just pay close attention
I rooted mine this way as well. Then I had to get another tbolt due to other reasons and did it with that one as well. Both worked fine, but today after freezing bloatware with ti backup, my phone kept going from all bars but nothing but the circle cross thing, to full bars, to 3g, to 4G, back to nothing. I'm not sure what was going on with it, but I froze some of them, nothing happened. Then I backed up everything, and everything was fine. It was the weirdestthing ever.

I'd like to set the record straight. Revolutionary does NOT root your device. It simply provides S-Off. That's why you need to flash Busybox and SU.
To the OP who tried using the ADB method, you'll notice that jcase now recommends using Revolutionary. ADB isn't hard to work with. It's a VERY useful think to know how to use, and I use it fairly often. If you've got questions, PM me and I'll try to walk you through some of it. Some of it isn't as obvious as it should be, especially if you're only used to using Windows.

Unless one has command-line experience, especially on the *nix side (DOS isn't bad), it's best that they avoid ADB. People insist "I typed the commands exactly" when they in fact reversed a "/" with "\" or put (2) spaces instead of (1) and so on. Do that and it simply won't work.
The ones I really love are the "can you post a youtube video showing how to do it?" !!! Really, post a video of a procedure that involves command-line typing ??
I rooted my girlfriends bolt with revolutionary. I just wanted to try it. Personally I like adb but apparently revolutionary may soon be the only way to root the bolt. Btw there actually are some decent videos on YouTube.

[Q] Kingpad k70 4.4 kitkat root help

Hi all,
Just bought a tablet off amazon not too long ago, Kingpad K70 (tabletexpress is the company), and I have been trying to find a way to root it. I have tried the various methods like Chainfire, Towelroot, and others, but still unable to. It is running kitkat 4.4.4, says model number is as KINGPAD K70. Any insight or assistance would be great! I also have stock .img file from company, as version on website did not work.
Thanks all,

Try rooting with the following android apps.
Root Master
z4root
Universal Androot
Easy rooting toolkit
Framaroot
Thanks for your quick reply!
I tried all of the .apk files with no success so far but soon I will try the last one and update!
Well tried last one (root toolkit) on two different computers, both just waiting for device, Windows 8 had some compatibility issues, and my desktop, windows 7 automatically reinstalls the driver, and won't allow me to update to ADB device oddly.
Any insights?
Thanks
Same problem
I got the k70 with the rk3128 and NEED TO ROOT as well. I asked the customer service people at tabletexpress, and they weren't much help. I bought it off of amazon, and the title said it was compatible with 3d games... and the lie detector test determined, THAT WAS A LIE !!! no real racing, no dead trigger, no fast and furious, no temple run of any kind. I was lied to. The tablet is a POS to me, but could be better if I could root it. I googled til my brain was all googled out and found NOTHING. So now my only option it to complain and bother people here, amazon, and the customer service at TabletExpress for selling me such a POS tablet:good:
Forgot to update! Use kingo root, took a while but worked, and then I just installed rom toolbox and deleted kingos bs. Still don't like their Android edit, so if you find a workaround for cfw let me know!

updated: okay, I downloaded kingoroot on my computer. I hooked it up. Had the usb debugging on. wifi is on. I had it recognize the tablet once and it gave me the options to unroot and reroot. I chose reroot. it failed. So im trying to go again, but this time to unroot, then root, however i cannot get it to connect anymore, it keeps saying the tablet is offline! So im pretty sure im missin somethin here.... its sayin its offline, and i read that im supposed to "tick always allow from this computer" to avoid this problem. where would i find this prompt? how do i get to it? also, its not rooted[i checked with root checker] i dunno why it gave me the options unroot/reroot
SUCCESS!!

:good::good: for you. I got around the "offline" thing by deleting the kingoroot app off the tablet, then proceeding normally. I did the unroot, but it failed, however it did remove some stuff that made my first reroot fail. So after I unrooted and failed. I rebooted the tablet, deleted the kingoroot app again, and proceeded to reroot. This time the reroot worked!! thank you angrynapkinz:good::good: hey, one more question, what apps to you recommend for this tablet. maybe something for the battery and the overheating. I also couldnt figure out how to play 3d games on it without it crashing
Try China Devices
is cwf custom firmware? Im not that experienced with flashing new ROMs, and it seems that most people here are about the brand name stuff. I was googling cfw's and found nothing except for this forum website that "specializes" in chinese tablets like the kingpad/dragontouch (pretty sure theyre all the same) i think the webmaster makes cfw's or if he doesn't, he'll find out. Thanks again for the root help:good:
Hey harlow, yea I meant custom firmware, the KitKat that they have loaded is obviously rooted previously, you'll notice the more you use it. I installed xposed installer and root browser's etc on it for battery monitoring and all, malwarebytes keeps picking up malware loaded into the tablet and every time I delete. It's reinstalled upon reboot so that's why I'm trying to figure out rom reflashing/cfw options. Still trying to figure out what to add and what not though so take your pick and let me know also what seems to work. I went search and found its been mix and match from forums.

Yeah the kitKat they got on there is no comparison to the OG one on my cheap ass LG L70. I did malwarebytes and avast and found nothing on it so i guess im lucky. Im using Nova Launcher because it looks nicer and functions better. And theres this thing in the Google Play store called Root Booster. idk if you heard of it but you can set your tablet onto one of three modes: Speed, Battery, and Stock. Im on Speed right now, and it boosted the RAM about 50mbs. (I still cant play real racing on it tho) Have you taken the back off yet??? I cant figure it out!! I wanna replace the battery with something with bigger nuts... The stock one is garbage. I can squeeze about 5 hours out of it. Maybe ill glue on some heat sinks onto the chips, it gets really hot when im netflixin. So ill keep an eye out for the cfws. Have you tried reflashing with the stock one they got on tabletexpress? i havnt tried that, but maybe it wont have malware on it?
Yea it sucks, haven't found an alternative yet and still trying to figure this thing out. I had to flash one they emailed me cause the site one didn't work previously. The malware is like coudw.a or cloudsservice.apk every reboot, and also having a constant 115b up and download. No I haven't tried any games yet, or tried to open it up but I might do that, as I'm getting about the same battery wise.

I think the tablet would work good as a playstation or rom player. I have yet to put my playstation games on it and also connect a ps3 controller to it. busy with differential equations and maplestory... I found a battery on aliexpress with about double the capacity. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/The-...ery-For-7-8-9-inch-tablet-PC/32213974542.html ...idk if itll fit tho. its a little thicker and longer on one side.... if it dont fit... ill make it fit > also, another app to boost the RAM is SmartBooster. I got a little over 200mb ram. yeah, ill update you when i find out other tips and shjt
Need PC/windoze to root.
"Root Android without PC," an info app on GP, indicates that phones/tablets with a kernel newer than 1/3/2014 can't be rooted w/o a PC. Framaroot doesn't work, it also fingers Kingo as possible solution. Kingo itself indicates that it's best for phones. I hate Windoze, but here goes.....
(Weeks ago, I saw something about invoking Linux instead--maybe it was a dream: Perhaps some of my brain cells exploded--no doubt due to "sprinting" cups at keg parties and then passing out long ago!)
I'm rating this thread a 3--still somewhat murky, without clear procedure to solution.
Thread is dead.
From rbrband57. This endeavor seems dead.
I still believe that replacing software/firmware is the key to getting the K70 to run better--the hardware likely is pretty good. I've been able to disable PRC bloatware, via some helpful cleanup software from GP. I'd like to uninstall. The loader at cold boot takes forever--I'd like to crucify that.
I'll reinstall kingoroot yet again, but I still don't know how to proceed further. Root confirm software says then rooted, but can't get SuperSu on--which might indicate true root, after all. Still not much info online.
My experience with rooting in the past was with a cheapo Icecream Polaroid 4.3" screen device from Big Lots: Full step-by-step procedure in one site, etc. Put a valid, new, upgraded .apk ROM on. Nothing can help the underpowered much, though--single core, 1GHz, perhaps, and 512MB sys mem.. GP worked sporadically afterwards--not really very well. Sold it to a guy in CA for his kid's Xmas last year.
Thanks for trying--Amazon no longer offers--K77, instead. Probably pretty much identical--hated, as well.

Need help unlocking and rooting alcatel onetouch pixi glitz

I bought an alcatel onetouch pixi glitz tracfone. I know it is a terrible cheap phone, but it was all I could afford. I have a T-mobile data plan that I want to use it on. However I have tried 3 different unlock sites and all have given me a message saying it is unable to be unlocked. I read on another forum that sometimes rooting and loading a custom ROM can sometimes unlock it in the process. However, after looking all over the web, I can't even find instructions for SU. Is this phone so crappy yay no one cares or what?
Any luck? Thinking of running out and grabbing one of these as a cheap mp3 player to leave in the car, would love to strip it down. What have you tried? King/Kingo? Vroot? Are those still legit methods?
I haven't really tried anything because with no stock (that I can find) I am a little hesitant to try anything...lol
Dollar General is suppose to have these going on sell for $1.00 on thanksgiving.
Im hoping to snag a few, Can you confirm the rumor that the phone does not allow rotation to landscape?
I wasn't able to find a stock firmware, nothing on alcatel's website except it is mentioned about some sort of hearing aid support.
Couldn't find anything on tracfone's website either except user guide and tutorial, have'nt looked at the guide but I don't expect much useful in it.
If you google "alcatel ftp" a alcatel-lucent ftp server comes up: ftp.alcatel-lucent.com.au
But it does not allow anonymous/public connections.
Try running https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.backessrt.appintegrity&hl=en
on it, this will show certain vulnerabilities, I've used it a few times when scouting out devices that impactor will work on.
But I heard Tracfones are usually pretty buttoned up.
BTW could you run cpu-z and post the screen shots? im really curious what SoC it's running I haven't been able to find out online.
this phone is like a ghost.. it sometimes gets mentioned in the same breath as the pixi 3 (3.5in) but that phone is a bit different.. 3g vs gltiz 4g
and slower clock.
I'd feel a lot better if we could find a stock firmware but I plan on poking mine either way, assuming I get some for a dollar, wont even be the end of the world if I don't get root but who doesn't like that?
Tracfone product/tutorial page: http://tracfone.deviceanywhere.com/tracfone/home.seam?custId=TFALA463BG&locale=en_US
I can confirm that the device doesn't have auto-rotate.
As to the rest of your post, I will download the app you suggested, and let you know what I find. but I probably will wait to try anything till someone smarter than me figures that stuff out so I don't brick myself. ?
Ok these phones are running mediatek mt6582..
Only problem is specout.com & MTK says the 82 should be a quad core.
http://system-on-a-chip.specout.com/l/464/MediaTek-MT6582
http://www.mediatek.com/en/products/mobile-communications/smartphone1/mt6582/
So did CPU-Z get it wrong? Or is alcatel using low bin 6582 that had a bad core?
Do they even do that with SoC's meant for the entry market anyway?
Im pleasantly surprised how snappy it is for the price.
Was able to emulate PS1/N64 nearly perfect with the exception of the occasional sound glitch, This could be due to the weird 48hz refresh on the screen.
Anyway neither CPU-Z nor AIDA64 report any sensor data, so if it has a gravity sensor it's not working in software.. either way this is why it does not auto rotate which is weird cause this is the first android device i've encountered that did'nt have one.
On The Go support is disabled on these phones :/
I tried USB HID gamepad, thumb drive, hub, nothing.. not even power.
Might be able to fix once rooted, or it might be a physical limitation.. like diode on the port preventing the device to give power.. that would really suck.
Another weird thing.. I can't get the phone to accept wifi 64charactor (hex) wifi key's
The field seems limited to 8~63 ASCII passwords... Might make a post somewhere about this as I doubt it's phone specific.
none the less I had to setup a virtual AP with a ASCII pass to get this thing connected.
Not a huge deal for most people as 64hex key's are pretty rare to see used, but I do.
phone reports it self as pixi3-35tf
But It seems the pixi 3 (3.5) uses a mt6572 which has a few variants but I think none over 1.2ghz, so not sure how close the two devices are.
Even though It seems like the pixi 3 and glitz both come from earlier this year feb/march 2015
and share other similar stats / look alike.
Root's tried:
- Towel Root, no go, kernel is too new (july/2015)
- Farmaroot 1.9.3
Roots not tried but wont work
- Impactor won't work either, it's not vulnerable.
I've got ADB working but no easy root access.
You can get the ADB drivers by connecting your computer and then setting the phone to operate as "cd-rom"
so the phone has onboard copy of the win32/64 adb drivers in a self extracting rar file.
anyone find a root method for the A463BG yet? just got 1 from Kroger cause my kid broke my screen on my rooted N900V and i really would like root back
Something else I noticed weird about these phones, Tethering is disabled, despite the fact that you would normally pay per megabyte of data.. nothing is free.
Wifi direct is still intact however.
The phones come with crappy little 550mah chargers, if you put them on 1 or 2 amp chargers the phones will still only charge at 500mah.. so having a better charger wont get you any faster a charge :/
My android 'fu is pretty damn weak but it seems like a pretty buttoned down phone.
EX: I was trying to dump some of the partitions and I couldn't even read them kept getting errors and permission denied.
Hopefully one of the guru's on xda picked up one cheap this last week and will figure it out.
I thought about trying Iroot or Kingoroot which are suppose to have like 90% success rates even on difficult to roots..
but I hear of some shadiness with those 2 roots and frankly am scared to touch them.
Blue's and SRT security scanner show no known vulnerabilities.
Im hoping to get a usable dump and maybe root with MTK tools.
But im trying to read up on the tool since it's new to me, has the potential to brick, and it's my first mediatek deivce.
Hey guys just came across this thread in hopes for a answer, I will say kingoroot does work, BUT if you reboot your phone it removes root access. Could it because super su is having problems on this? I tried superuser instead but no luck.

Did'nt I read that kingoroot normally installs it's own "SU" gateway app and binary?
is the temporary root a functional one? can probably install su/apk by hand if so.
otherwise maybe we could flash something like CWM recovery with teh temporary root and then instal su/apk via zip update from recovery?

When I root the phone, I use root checker and says my phone is rooted, I can launch apps and give them rood access. As soon as I reboot the phone, the root is gone. So, something is keeps removing it.

After running kingoroot, have you installed supersu from the playstore and updated the su binary?
kingoroot not working
So I tried kingoroot. I had to use the PC version. It states that it works, but it does not. It's not even a temp root. It installs some binaries and when running certain apps you will get prompted to allow superuser access, but it doesn't do anything.

It was hit and miss for me, when I was able to get root on there, I went into terminal typed in su, and prompted for root. From what I have been reading, the reason it removes root after reboot is because the bootloader is locked, afaik there hasn't been a way to unlock the bootloader.
I got vcom drivers installed and was going to try and backup the rom with sp flash tool but I got a error
"BROM Error: S_Auth_Handle_Is_Not_Ready (5000)
This is a secure Base-band chip! Please Secect the authentication file first."
Im guessing you need some sort of a key file just to interact with it?
First time using sp flash tool.
Might be a while before we find a solution was hoping some guru's would have picked one up at DG when they was a dollar on thanksgiving :/
BTW has anyone gotten a bluetooth gamepad or keyboard paired with it? I've got a T3 pad that it can see, says it's paired but then just gets stuck "connecting"
Maybe the phone does not support input profiles? works fine on my galaxy s4
Oh and might wanna make your self a screen protector, it's plastic touch screen is super easy to scratch.
Im planing on making one out of economical (very cheap from china on ebay) ipad screen protector.

I purchased the Alcatel Onetouch Pixi Glitz and have been able to get rotation or orientation control by installing "Set Orientation" from the Google Play Store. I haven't used it in all situations but it works with an ereader app.
Jumping into this thread in hopes that someone has made progress towards rooting this phone. Just had 2 show up today from the Dollar General Sale. These would make great mp3 players for working out with (A Note 5 is a little too big). I guess they'll still pressed into service with a microSD card and a missing SIM but like pissinguoff247, I would prefer to strip the whole thing down to just the basics.
I should add that it's been a few years since I've been here.........
I like what the site has morphed into. Very nice.
Updates?
any updates on this? I need to unlock it
I purchased several of these for $4 at Fred Meyer yesterday... The SoC is a MediaTek MT6582, which is rather odd considering it claims to be quad core, yet only 2 cores are available according to cpu-z and DroidSpec. Perhaps they set a maximum of 2 CPU cores in the kernel config...? Attempting to root it using KingoRoot proved unsuccessful and it appears the bootloader is locked as well, preventing reading from the NAND using my generated scatter file. I'm looking for a workaround so that I can create a patched version of CWM for the device, so hopefully I'll be able to dump the internal flash soon. It's also probably futile to ask, but does ANYONE know of a place where I could find a factory image for this thing, or am I O.O.L?
So, after poking around the filesystem a bit, it looks as if I can use CVE-2015-2231 and CVE-2015-2232 in conjunction to gain permanent root perms on the device... I'll see if I can whip up a quick PoC for one of my test devices.

Custom ROM for RCA 7 Voyager II?

First off, if there's already a thread on this, I apologize. I was not able to locate it.
I have an RCA 7 Voyager II tab. I was able to root it, but was wondering if there's a custom ROM for it. Does anybody know of one? Or can an existing one be used (CM, VenomROM, etc.)?
Hi, how the hell did you root it, please please is it a rct6773w22b android 5.0, I lost so much time trying to root it, Thanks :crying::crying::crying:

I wish I could help you my friend. I was lucky to be able to use the return policy from where I bought it. Best of luck to you.
Voyager 2 tablet Root yet? (android 5.0?)
Is there anybody looking into getting this thing rooted?
To provide a minor update over a year since the last post, I was just messing with one of these stupid things the other day. Doesn't seem anything has changed.
I got it rooted with KingRoot APK version, but I didn't realize it at the time. See, the Kingroot app itself even claimed the root process didn't succeed once it finished running. I had tired of screwing with the thing by then so I sat it aside. My wife picked it up to mess with it and asked "I thought you said you couldn't root it?" "Yeah, it didn't work." "So why did the Superuser thing just pop up for permissions?" Oh. Okay, I guess it *did* work. Unfortunately, it randomly rebooted on her about five minutes later and came back up without root again. Oh well. I tried for the heck of it to use Kingoroot PC once after this but it failed. After that, I tried unlocking the bootloader via a simple "fastboot oem unlock" command. To my amazement, it worked with no code required. I verified that it was indeed reporting back to fastboot as unlocked and then sent a reboot command.
...This was, apparently, the wrong thing do. It's as bricked as they get.
So now we can say this much:
1). It is possible to unlock the bootloader of this troublesome-to-root bastard of a tablet. Surely this should make the rooting process much easier.
2). You have a more-likely-than-not risk of destroying it at the same time, putting this stupid tablet out of its misery once and for all.
Oh yeah, one other weird thing I found while I was poking around on this thing - there's a system app called AutoReboot hiding on here. I expected it to do exactly what it promised to do, and it did. A screen with some Chinese text pops up, a countdown from 10 begins, and the device reboots. Fair enough, I guess. What I didn't expect was that this app will load at startup from here til forever from now on once you've ran it. The good news is that I eventually noticed there's a quick chance to cancel during the countdown, and I *think* I had it finally stopped from coming back again, but still, what the hell, RCA? What logical, good reason could there be for this app being there? And why does unlocking the bootloader (which I remind you is not locked by any code that would prevent you from doing this) cause the thing to respond by hard-bricking on reboot? (Ok, technically it might not be *hard* bricked, I haven't messed with it enough since then to say really... but it sure acts like it at least).
In short, eff this stupid tablet.

I don't own this device, but if it has an unlockable bootloader like that, we can easily make a permanent root solution! Also, if it was bricked by unlocking bootloader (what happened, did it just not boot or something?) we can lock it again with fastboot oem lock. But hey, if it works to unlock it that easy, I'd like someone who can chat with me fast to pm me, I might be able to get something going. Preferably has skype for easy access.

Root for the ZTE Avid Trio (Z833) (MetroPCS)?

Okay, I know I don't post much in XDA, but I do read a LOT of threads!
The reason I am posting this is because I am wondering if anybody achieved root on this phone.
I have tried KingRoot, KingoRoot, OneClickRoot, none of those work.
It is running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
I am about to screw around with ADB, see what I can do. I'll post back when I have got something.
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, I don't post much on XDA.
any luck?
I've tried every root method available without the PC and nothing. But, there maybe good news. In developers options there's a switch to unlock the bootloader. Now I'm no dev but I hope this makes cwm or tarp easy for devs to port and root.
I found https://mobile.twitter.com/srsroot/status/810325782417592325?lang=en srsroot claims it supports ZTE Z833. I've used srsroot once before but on another phone I have no PC so I can't test it but someone should test Cydia impactor see if it works.

1. I too saw that twitter SRSRoot business and tried it thinking, "Oh joy!" no, not working. Tried it every way you could (yes Kingo, KingRoot, vRoot, iRoot, FramaRoot, uRoot, & we-all_Root (the last two were jokes don't be so serious, nor was it a complete list of what I did actually try, ha!) too). I even wrote the people at SRSRoot telling them that it didn't work and have gone back to download their latest versions, still nada, zip, zero. FML on toast!
2. Cydia Impactor is not for Android devices, it is only for iOS. I went and double-checked just to make sure I wasn't trippin' thinking that maybe they have gone cross-platform. No, they have not.
3. I have the phone in question, I submitted a formal request on here in the best way I could find to get it added to the XDA devices list and I have been eagerly monitoring awaiting the day it happens. I was even considering trying to compile TWRP myself, but I just bought a different phone because I was tired of the headache. I couldn't figure out how to extract the zImage from it in order to give it a go (I think that's what it was). Anyways, I'm writing this before finishing reading the rest of the posts and may be rambling, but I had to respond. I have spent much time doing this. I ended up buying a different MetroPCS phone called the Samsung Galaxy On5 and was able to successfully root it and after much waiting finally got ahold of the Superstarz ROM that finally went out for that one. Just an FYI in case someone happens to see this before making the purchase. I will say that I feel like the ZTE Avid Trio Z833 has pretty good response time for such a cheap phone, then again they had a deal on it in the store, it looked to be more expensive at retail pricing. Anyhow, I digress, but felt the need to contribute rather than just lurk.
Oh, and another thing... The development option to OEM Unlock is "checkable", but as for actually booting to the bootloader it WILL NOT DO IT. The only way this is gonna happen to be rootable is if you use a custom recovery (which none exist yet) in a tar format and ODIN the friggin thing from download mode. So, there's your catch 22. If anyone knows how to extract the zImage and whatnot (without root obviously) I'd be more apt to give it a go and boot my happy bunghole into Linux and give compiling TWRP another go. I finally have had a lot of life stresses temporarily die down since I decided not to leave my current living situation and just stay with these irritating bastards another month at a higher rate. FML & Cheers!: good:
I should mention, however, that SRSRoot attempted to use it's "Exploit 8." So, I went digging into it's directories to see what the script was, but it was binary (and I didn't have reverse-engineering **** handy like PE-ID, and whatever else the kids are using in this newer age). So, I was like "wah-wah", but if any experienced ppl know more about the specific exploits that aren't ancient and actually working with Marshmallow that would be interesting to hear feedback about as well. Thanks. I really would like to use this second phone still, but right now I'm just using it as a Kodi/Megabox HD + AllCast Projector to watch streaming things without having to interrupt my working phone in the middle of it. It would also be cool to use as a straight VOIP phone with no cell service connected, but I've yet to find the free Google Voice VOIP loophole that is currently working. PM me if you know of these
P.P.S. I wrote another spicy post on hardr3set dot info about what crap I felt about their B.S. (weaksauce compared to anything legit which we all know you come to XDA for the meat-and-potatoes) because I was so tired of searching the Goog for root ZTE Avid Trio Z833 and having it be the top result over and over. Finally this has risen up. Thank you for starting this. Oh, and also, please... If you would kindly also request for this device to be added formally, maybe it would encourage development. Not sure how all that works, but yeah... power in numbers right?
Sincerely,
~Ye of little faith
Bump
are you telling me that faults advertising runs ramped all over the internet even Google play store and this is the nondoing phone ever made and it can't be jailbroke nor rooted
Rooting your zte device
Can not be done. This phone is an unfortunate accident by ZTE with numerous problems and they are not small issues but ones that affect the performance of the device. Replace that phone or your only adding to your daily stress.
That kingroot and oneclickroot don't work
For this phone
a
Guessing this is a dead issue? It's an okay phone but lags horribly when it comes to multi tasking
Hey I don't want the root thing to die on this topic. So would it be possible to root via ADB update in recovery mode? Or to somehow update via SD card and applying root? I refuse to give up hope on this device lol
Anyone made progress on this? I just got this phone and it definitely has some issues, but I feel like root would resolve most of them.
Has anyone figured out a way to root this device?
I've searched for a long time without success. I hope something comes up.
Any progress on this? Thanks
following, bought one this morning hoping to have a cheap rootable phone.
I got mine from MetroPCS for $29. lol Yes, it's frustrating and has got problems (I've already put two of them through my dashboard and had to replace them, within the first 2 months, but it only cost 30buck so WTH. Anyways, I decided after I destroyed #2 that I was only going to use it for work and add no apps to it, except maybe GasBuddy and Winamp. Other than that, it's stock and I haven't had any real problems with it to speak of (problems aggravating enough to make me want to destroy it yet again).
So my suggestion to anyone who owns this phone, or is thinking about owning one: Don't install any more than a couple small apps, add a 32GB uSD card for music and other stuff, and use the thing as a phone and a media player only. The camera is pretty much worthless for quality photos, so there's really no other use for it. But it makes a great txting, voice calling, and music playing phone!
Of course, if you end up paying more than $30 for it, you probably paid too much. But it sure is a pretty nice phone for 30 buck!
Yes. root it please
I have a Z833. The phone only lags apps that are over 100mb I'll have test this out agin
I have ordered one of these phones for $20 should be here by Monday. When it arrives I'll be able to confirm if its bootloader is unlocked or not. In the meantime here is the firehose and support files (rawprogram0.xml and patch0.xml) as well as the MetroPCS B16 firmware to be flashed with QFIL or MiFlash. This will allow people to recover their device and hopefully if the bootloader isn't locked flash custom images.
