Computer Hardward: Windows Vista 32 Bit
Phone: HTC Hero-Sprint
Ultimate Goal: Putting Android 2.2 on my phone
I'm not a programmer or have any in-depth developing knowledge . However, I follow directions precisely. I feel like I've tried following several different directions on XDA and I start completely over each time trying a different one(uninstalling SDK and re-installing per particular directions) and they have all came to no avail.
The following link I will use as an example set of directions:
droidoholics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=187
BUT, when i get to this section in the directions:
" When the new hardware device notification pops-up on your pc point windows to the driver folder we moved to our C-drive(C:\android-sdk-windows\google-usb_driver) and install the adb driver"
I follow the directions and I've verified the folder and contents are there. I unfortunately ALWAYS get the following message:
"Windows was unable to install your ADB"
"Windows could not find driver software for your device"
I need help getting past this beginning step and feel like I've looked everywhere and followed all directions. Any help out there?? I'm drooling in anticipation of getting 2.2 for my device that the carrier will not be updating. This small step is stumping me severely.

I'm trying to root my phone by using Pre-kitchen but when I do the "diagnostic" test I get this error message; "cannot find a part of the path C:\Documents and Settings/acollins/Destop/adb/help.bat' can anybody help me?
well for starter the thread name is wrong, your supposed to give an insight into the issue you're having
secondly, without any knowledge of the actual phone you have then people cant really be of any assistance can they
if you explain the problem clearly along with the name of the phone you have then people will be able to provide help
also giving us a clear idea of the type of computer you have and os its running#
HTC Hero
I tried going back and changing the thread name but it wouldn't let me edit.
I have a HTC Hero that I'm trying to root on a windows XP computer. I tried using Flash's pre-kitchen and have followed the directions as listed on the website. When I try to run the program, during the "diagnostic" stage, I get the message "cannot find a part of the path C:\Documents and Settings/acollins/Destop/adb/help.bat'. I copied pre-kitchen into the C directory thinking that was the issue but still get the missing "adb/help.bat" message.
I read in a forum somewhere that I need to have Android SDK installed on my computer and that I could also get that from this website (xda) but I'm not sure I need it and what exactly it is.
So myself, the mega noob of rooting, I've decided to root for the first time and (eventually) flash CM6, however I've run into a road block. I have to this point 1) downloaded and saved to the appropriate locations all required .zip and .img files, 2) downloaded the SDK for Mac, 3) enabled USB debugging...but for whatever reason my Mac is unable to recognize the device when running the './fastboot devices' command, and the SDK does not show my device in AVD Manager ("No AVD available"). Does anybody have any idea what might be going on??? I've been specifically following the directions listed on this page, mainly because it is the only Mac-specific instruction I've found: How to hack your Nexus One to run Cyanogen for a good performance boost (and some serious geek cred)
Somebody, please help!!!
Samsung infuse.
Windows 7 OS
microsoft .net framework (latest version)
The Issue:
Once all steps followed, phone plugged in correctly in debugging mode with sd card unmounted, and SuperOneClick is activated via the "root" button I receive a not
responding notification at the top of the window. The root process seizes up at the Waiting For Device entry, and it will not move forward/Detect my device for anything!
What I've tried:
I have followed correct steps for rooting using SuperOneClick, tried running program as admin, tried ending the process via process manager before re-attempting the root multiple different ways, toggled debug during root process, turned phone on after running root, and downloading pdanet to find all the necessary drivers that may or may not have been missing.
Possible Reason For Issue:
After all this, what I beleive the problem to be is I am missing cdc abstract control model. Anytime I try to aquire this, I receive a "driver not found" message.
I have sought it out manually and turned up with nothing.
The Main Question:
How can i fix, or proceed past this point succesfully/get SuperOneClick to detect my Samsung Infuse 4G device?
Ideas/suggestions/info/programs that help/step by step assistance would all be greatly appreciated.
I used a search on the infuse forums and came across this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088122&highlight=superoneclick
Therefore, this thread will be closed to keep the forum clean. Ask your question there.
1st off I have gotten as far as getting the phone's (a kyocera hydro) drivers installed and verified via "adb.exe shell". Then I backed up my phone to my laptop
I have tryed rooting via a prog "Superoneclick". Superoneclick get to number 5 line and sit's and is waiting for something, I have no idea what it is waiting for. Does anyone know of an error list for the Superone prog so I can fig out what it wants?
Also I can't find a clear step by step instructions (like step 1 do this, step 2 do this and so on) to root a phone using sdk. All the instructions I have found are very highly technical and hard to follow. Also they omit some steps or don't spell out what is to be done and were. It makes it hard for someone like me (my field is repairing 2 way radios) to follow the instructions. I can follow instructions if they are spelled out clearly enough on each step.

TL : DR Bought phone today, spent 10+hrs now trying to get this thing rooted, help
Read through the ENTIRE Bounty thread for D6616: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/bounty-z3-d6616-root-t3035129/page49
Followed all instructions to the best of my understanding, got close once, tried to find out what was wrong, messed it up even worse, have no idea what I'm doing...
Could I get a little help with what I'm missing here?
I have installed on my Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 PC:
JDK 8 Update 45 (64-bit)
JDK 8 Update 45
JRE 8 Update 45 (64-bit)
JRE 8 Update 45
C++ 2012 Redistributable (x64)
C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86)
Android Studio
SDK Manager
Universal Adb Driver
Minimal ADB and Fastboot
Sony Companion
Avast Antivirus Disabled
On my D6616 phone I have:
Android Version 4.4.4
Version 23.0.D.1.123
Developer Mode access
USB Debugging activated
Allow Mock Locations checked
TestApp2 Selected for Debug App
Verify apps over USB Unchecked
Lookout Disabled
Running exploit.bat still says "waiting for the device to be connected"
Restarting my computer and then running exploit.bat will allow it to get a step farther, saying something about the daemon not being started, then it starts on port something.
After that it doesn't do anything.
Hitting Ctrl+C prompts the user to terminate or not, selecting no returns this:
Pushing files
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
error: device not found
Preparing exploit...
and then it does nothing.
Earlier today I got it to actually do something. Exploit.bat ran it's code until it said Success, then I ran root.bat until it stopped at the error message given in the video link in the OP.
Please help me figure out what's wrong. I've spent 12+hrs straight now trying to figure this out, installing, uninstalling, re-installing, etc etc, I've skipped work, Martial Arts training, ignored my girlfriend, and haven't eaten anything since I bought the phone after breakfast (its 11pm here now), I haven't even mentioned the nightmare I had to go through with the T-Mobile Store just to actually purchase the phone. I can't think of any other relevant information to provide, but if I've missed something let me know. Please, help! What do I need to do root my phone?
Hi, thank you for using XDA Assist. Our mission here is to point you in the right direction. We are not a technical support center and I see you're asking here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/bounty-z3-d6616-root-t3035129 That is the best place as they are the experts on your device.
Please post your question only once per the XDA rules. I'm going to close this thread as you are already asking in the right place above.
