[Q] Okay need some serious Help - G Tablet General

ok i know this has been mentioned already just not sure if those topics/posts apply to me.
before i did the below, i tried the tnt lite enhancement pack and had upgraded to 3588 from viewsonic, don't know if that mattered, but i reinstalled clockwork .8 afterword and started to flash zpad
was flashing zpad and zpad enhancement pack (though i don't think i needed to) and i flashed the mdpi tegra gapps now i have a borked tablet.
at first when i was trying to flash zpad and the enhancement pack it would restart with viewsonic logo and then it would just be blank black screen that was lit up so the screen was on. and it took atleast 5 seconds of holding power button to get it off, but it was still able to go into recovery.
so i figured something i was flashing was causing something to go wrong, so i just flashed zpad and the gapps no enhancement pack and it booted, read that pershoots kernel was best so i downloaded it from his site, maybe it was the wrong one, idk but after flashing that all that would happen is the screen would turn on to the viewsonic logo, did not recognize the command to enter recovery by holding volume button.
so i was like wth turned it off and literally touch the button for like 2 seconds and it would turn off. tried going into recovery no dice. wth do i do, i just passed the 30 day mark from sears. (i was gonna return it but after seeing honeycomb, hells no)
any advice???

Instructions if you have a brick.

Try that before you take apart your machine.....It sounds like you flashed the zpad kernel for the zpad. That kernel is for the malata zpad not the zpad rom on the gtab. If you can get to apx mode then you can nvflash stock and start over.

Don't even have nvflash or how to use it.
Kinda lost....I downloaded pershoots kernel for zpab/gtab of his site.....

Have you followed the instructions in the following thread? Sounds like you're missing the recovery folder, or did not extract the the clockwork.zip which would have an update.zip file and the recovery folder with command file. You need both on the sdcard for clockworkmod to install from stock recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245

yeah realized that myself. well i finally got it working right except that now when i try to restore with titanium or download something from the market etc. the damn thing restarts.
would that be a kernel or rom probem, trying to run zpad. was on vegan 5.1 for forever but i need to play around with stuff to find what is the most stable and quick, i use it for work and now i can't it's really irritating.

what did you do to get back from the brick state? Nvflash ran for me, something at the end failed and now it looks like I have no APX mode because the tablet wont turn on at all. I have done apx and nvidia flash before so I think I know when the tablets turns on and goes into apx mode. My pc also tells me by attaching the device when I enter APX mode. So no APX mode, no turning on. Whats does the internal pushbutton really do? There is another post about touching/bridging two contact points together but no pictures. I think its talking about the place next to the interal pushbutton but I am not sure nor do I know which two contacts to bridge/short together. Is the second pushbutton location something like a flash recovery. I used my nvflash bat file and folder that I used before to do recovery so I am not sure why nvflash failed and screwed my tablet but this not looking good.
Any help recovering from this would be appreciated because this is not looking good. I am hoping its a dead battery so I am charging now and when I get back from work I will check again and then maybe take it apart.

nvflash crash, gtab is dead
charged the battery and still no apx mode, the gtab appears to be dead. nvflash errored out, and either rebooted this gtab or crashed it immediately but I have no signs of life and not sure what the disassembly can help with at this point.

Hold the power down for at least 5 seconds. You should see the screen go completely dark (better in a semi-dark room, as it's easier to see).

tried your solution, nothing.
let it charge overnight to make sure I wasnt being a total scrub and the battery was dead....nothing
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

When I first tried to flash to 1.1a, something like this happened. I don't think it was the ROM -- I think something malfunctioned inside the file system.
It was in the continuous Off/VS Birds/G-TabletLogo loop and even the power switch would not turn it off!
I wound up flashing CWM, and when I got into CWM I re-partitioned and re-formatted everything and then was able to successfully re-flash to TnT 2.2.0. (With the file system fixed, I am guessing I probably could have gone back to 1.01a if I have wanted to.)
Glad you are back working.

ARGHH!!
So has anyone found a definitive way to get these devices out of APX mode? I did a full restore on new device to clean up all the partitions and such, now nothing seems to get this thing to come out of APX. I suppose I could power it up with nvflash and leave it on the nvflashing screen until the battery dies, but there had to be a better way than burning the battery down overnight...
I have tried all sorts of combinations of powering on and off, is there a magic sequence lol...

Please don't hijack threads. There are LOTS of threads about boot loops. Check out some of the boot loop threads.
I was able to finally get the device unlocked and running much better. I used the nvflash recovery to get back to stock, then used Z4Root to get the device rooted stock. The rooting seems to have un-apx'd the device, and it works fine from there. So I would recommend keeping z4root on your drive so you can install it and root the device if it gets stuck in apx mode lol. It's a dirty hack but it worked for me when nothing else did.
Both of you,
I don't see that the thread was hijacked -- both of you are/were stuck in loops. Or at least something I think have a common cause.
What I was saying in my earlier post is that I am seriously wondering if the boot loops are caused by problems with the file system. Say, the system malfunctions or a flash makes something so it can't find the files it need to start.......
From my reading, it seems like most of the loops wind with the file system having to be fixed, or a new mod flashed over it, etc.
If we could determine that, perhaps we could know if loading CWM and fixing, or some such -- might save a tablet w/o having to re-flash.
Ideas or opinions?

[Q] Gtab won't boot on it's own Help!!

Ok so for the last week have read and read to find a fix to my problem and still my Gtab won't boot on its own i nvflash the tab and it works with the stock rom but the moment i try to install anything that requires rebooting it won't boot. the gtab is on because i plug it into my computer and it finds it but the only way to turn the gtab back on is to run nvflash again. has any one had this problem that might be able to help me?
I think the gtab is stuck on APX mode and it wont let it reboot..(how can i fix that)
It sounds like you're flashing the wrong files. What is the name of the zip file you're using?
Same thing here
Same thing here...
For me, this is the second time it has happened. First time thought it was the actual power button, so returned it and got a new one.
Nvflashed with: android_tegra_froyo_20101105, nvflash_gtablet_46_2010112600, and nvflash_windows_20100500.
Now only way to boot is to reflash and then it will never reboot.

Black Screen After bad TNT 5.0 Lite Install

I stupidly installed TNT Lite 5.0 before reading the instructions. My gtab locked at white screen. I panicked. Did a full restore using Nvflash. That put g-tab to 2638. But when I shut off power I can get nothing but a black screen when powering on. The only way to get the tablet to function again is to flash another full restore, and then same problem occurs when I shut down. I cant update because the tablet screen goes black when attempting reboot. I've been reading posts here in the developers forum all day and I haven't come closer to solving my problem, so I need help from someone smarter please.

yes check the first post in the lite thread. It is linked as APK 3588
I downloaded it, but I am not sure how to use it with nvflash as compared to the restore which was relatively simple using the included bat file. Am I missing something or am I just a hopeless Noob?

Hmm?.. Seems there are a lot of users trying to prove the GTAB is in fact Brickable..*lol*
It is NOT!
Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
Yes I feel dumb about it. I did read that thread before posting. I did the restore. I can get the gtab to boot up and it is usable.......until I power down, then the only way to use it again is to reflash the restore again. I mean its usable. Not really bricked, really, but I am frustrated because it seems like I am missing the solution.
I used the nvflash from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950 to prep my gtab for 5.0. Once it flashed and booted to the OS, I had it join wireless, then it prompted to start the update to 3588 immediately. Have you tried this?
Yes it downloads the update but to complete the update, it must reboot. When it goes to reboot then the screen goes black and then nothing The only way I can get it to work again is to nvflash it to the complete restore I have been going round in circles with it for hours and hours

Been there.......months later the tablet is still there. I can not power it off or reboot it. I bought another tablet and use "the unbootable" one at home where it sits in a dock until needed.
I have tried every nvflash recommendation out there...
There are about 4 or 5 tablets like this. Most have either been returned/swapped out or set aside and no longer used (from my reading of others with the same problem).
I can get it to boot by formatting partition 2 so if it ever goes off or I need to "update" it I turn it off.....connect it and nvflash it...holding volume + if I need to get to recovery. If not...once nvflash sends the bootloader over and formats partition 2, the device boots.
Something on mine is preventing the bootloader from booting.....the nvflash sending it over executes it and the tablet runs......
redundant - double posted

I got the same problem. I can only power my gtab by doing nvflash, and if i reboot, it only goes into apx mode.
Ouch. That has stopped me in my tracks. It's really bad news.
"Something on mine is preventing the bootloader from booting.....the nvflash sending it over executes it and the tablet runs......"
That's my problem exactly. My wife is going to be very upset. I thought I could keep her gtab updated without bricking it. Oh jeez that's exactly what I've done..........
Suggestion? don't do the update after you nvflash.. let the device boot up normally and put a different ROM zip file on the SD via USB.
Calkulins new ROM is based in TnT is super smooth.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985705
From there try to reboot into recovery mode with an app like quick boot AniReboot and flash the different rom.
It may be the ROM you're trying to flash is corrupt.
I did the same too. . An didn't read the fine print. After getting the info
on how to fix my bricked gtab. Also, I had to do some Googling on apx
USB drivers for windows 7.
Long story short.. had a few pints. .. got it back to stock and installed tntl 5
The next day.. I'm using it now and I'm happy. Time for another pint.
I thought I bricked my GTab, after several hours of tweaking I was
able to flash it and run TnT Lite 5.0 now. Here is the procedure I did:
a. nvflash to stock rom. download the usb driver for windows 7 here and install (link from post by syntrix) : http://developer.download.nvidia.com/tegra/files/os/tegra_ventana_froyo_20110207.msi
b. grab the stock rom from the post by roebeet, choose "nvflash_windows_20100500.zip" and ""nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip": http://db.tt/Wm25t7U
c. following roebeet's instruction, put Gtab to APX mode (volume down + power on), run nvflash_gtablet.bat, should flash the rom fine.
d. boot the Gtab after flashing, should be able to run the original stock rom.
e. download the 3588 stock rom from this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842000
f. run recovery (volume up + power on) to upgrade to 3588 rom, remember to make a "recovery" folder with "command" (check the prefix and see if is name "sdcard") and rename the downloaded 3588 rom to "update.zip". Put both to the root of the sdcard.
g. now you should have 3588 rom after the recovery
h. download tnt lite 5.0 rom and run a recovery. you will get stuck at a black screen. Just reboot and enter recovery mode again (volume up + power on). do a "wipe data" and reboot. Then you will be able to run TnT lite 5.0. In the recovery mode, the "power" button is "enter", not the "home" button in CWM 0.8. Anyway, just follow the instruction on screen for button layout.
Thanks. I have actually done those and would do them all but G-Tab will only boot once after flash (step d) after that if I power down, I gotta black screened brick until reflashing original ROM again. It is impossible for me to do step "F" from Gaspra post
and with that I give up. I ordered another G-Tab, and I'm using the old one as a plant stand. Who said this can't be bricked? I managed to do it.
Send it to me. I'll pay shipping.

EVERYONE SHOULD SETUP NVFlash NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been reading around for a while now, and noticed a lot of ppl soft-brick there device and are asking devs for help. I have noticed a lot of issues revolve around people trying to hop form on ROM to another.
A very easy way to recover from any sort of brick(or issue) is to use nvFlash. Its is very easy to setup and use and I highly recommend that everyone should setup nvFlash. You can find the guide on how to set it up from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
I think after the update last night a lot of people will brick there devices trying to mod it, and nvFlash will help you recover. I think we can really help out the dev if we all learn how to use nvFlash, because then they wont have to ans to alot of the support issues that keep coming up, and it will free up some of there time which they can use to create newer roms that will work with the new update.
If for some reason you follow that guide and are not scussefull in setting up nvFlash, then feel free to leave me a pm and i'll help you set it up.
I setup NVFLash a couple of days ago on my Windows laptop.
Am I correct in stating it replaces my need for CWM?
If so is there a site or link on how to use NVFLASH to complete the different task?
Example
Installing a Rom, Kernal, backup, data, etc

No its not a replacement for cwm. NVFlash will help you recover if you every brick your device and need to go back to stock image.
Couple of scenarios where it will be helpful is if you update to the new stock update from VS and decided you want to go back to one of the custom roms like Vegan GB RC1, then you will need nvFlash to go back to stock, otherwise you will brick your device.
Also I have noticed that I have to use nvFlash if I want to go from GB rom to FORYO rom.
Cannot get NV Flash to finish?!?
Very new to this but with the forums help I put TNT 4.2.4 on my Gtab and loved it. I had a hard crash last week and figured I need to use NV Flash to go back to stock or another rom. I put tablet into correct mode and by using USB drivers I am able to load NV Flash, it finished and on tablet the screen says "Entering NVFlash recovery mode / Nv3p Server" and that is it! It never reboots and if I manually reboot I have the same problem - all I get is the birds forever...if I try to boot using vol+ it says "Recovery Key Detected" "Booting recovery kernel image" and it sits forever...need help desperatley!

Sounds like the nvflash wasn't successful. The message you are getting when you boot to recovery...Power + vol(+) indicates that CWM is installed. If you nvflashed a stock version, cwm would not be there (unless you nvflashed a stock version with cwm preinstalled). Are you sure you flashed with the correct bootloader version. You should have used the 1.1 b/l version. Here is a link to b/l 1.1 version 3588 with cwm preinstalled http://www.mediafire.com/file/picrzt9pdkuqbj0/gtab.nvflash.1.1.branch.20110422%20with%20cwmv8.zip. Nvflash this & see what happens. By the way. when doing the nvflash, the cmd shell output should look something similar to the attached file...won't be exact since this was for a bl1.2 4349 version I nvflashed yesterday.

Code Red is the condition of your G Tab. If you follow the link in the signature of Goodintentions post (Viewsonic G-Tablet for Dummies) you will find complete and simple instructions on how to recover your G Tablet. You can also find links to the files you will need. It's a great site for anyone having problems with their tablets. It's where I got all my information when I first started.

Stuck! Hep! Won't get past Asus screen or go into apx mode

Ok, I swear I have read 100 pages of similar problems, but it looks like everyone else is able to get into apx mode at least to run nvflash or easy flasher.
1. Turn on xformer with power button - stuck at Asus Eee Pad screen
2. Try to boot into recovery with vol - + power;
- volume up to enter recovery, ded android with an exclamation
- volume down to choose between 'wipe' and 'cold boot' both result in getting stuck at Asus screen
3. Plug in xformer, hold power and vol +; nothing. Never shows up in device manager and it doesn't beep or anything like the ones in all the videos do.
I really just want to get up and running at the very least, as I handle all of my businesses billing through my xformer, but my ultimate goal is to get on the HD-ROM.
I have downloaded the newest firmware from asus, have all the drivers installed (I think), have tried booting into recovery with one, some or all of the new software on the sdcard.
Any more ideas I can try? Do you just have to hold your mouth right to get it into apx mode? I have held those buttons so much I think I'm getting Nintendo thumb!!!
Thanks all!
nobody?
Throw something at me! What update.zip file do I put on the sd card? I have tried putting the newest asus update.zip on there with both its original name and the update.zip name. still comes up with a dead android and an exclamation point.
Download a firmware from Asus, rename it to EP101_SDUPDATE.zip
Put it on the root of your sd card and boot into recovery, hopefully it will flash it and let you boot up.
As for NVFlash, make sure you install teh APX driver.
Still won't get past about a second or two of trying to boot with EP101_SDUPDATE.zip on the sd card. Think I'm stuck, or is there something else I need to try?
Thanks!!
..Do the apx process and try using brks tool......just dont flash touch recovery! I couldnt get the drivers to show but still managed to nvflash recovery using the tool. Its install solarnz external sd recovery so you can put a rom zip onto micro sd.
My issue was after doing this normal on off reboot kept booting to recovery and i had to cold boot into the rom.
I tried the wheelie beta and it has ended up wiping the tf completely.....so dont do that lol. Its still a soft brick as i could still nvflash recovery but decided that aslongs its wiped of root etc id just send it to asus.
If brks tool flashes for you then id try nvflashing prime and see if that works.......i think it will but i ran out of time and patience this morning to do it......at your own risk of course.

i am the same issue by flashed the touch CWM and window wont able to reconigzed my TF as a APX device
i tried many drivers it still not able to work.
how can i get back to normal CWM? i dont have havy roms or update.zip in internal roms.. and Touch CWM wont able to recongized Removerable sdcard
god~~
The root and backup option should flash you an external recovery.
While tablet reboots hold down volume up and power until reboot stops.
Then try brks tool again and select root and backup.......during the process it may ask if you want to back up but its not worth while as i dont think theres anything to backup. You should end up with ext micro sd recovery.
As i said id look for the prime rom thread and download the nv flash version and see if it works first.
If asus restore the wiped TF without question and everything goes ok il let you know as it may be worth wiping it with wheelie nv recovery and just RMA.
I just simply CAN'T get it into apx mode. I've installed, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. Trying to flash ep101_sdupdate.zip still just results in an error. crap.
Hold Volume-UP BEFORE holding power, then hold power for 5 secs (Still holding vol-up( doing this all while connected. It should show in device manager.
Couldnt get Tf to show in device manager either no matter what.
I know it may not seem as though its in apx but if it has stopped rebooting when you do v up and power then it seems it is......
Seems to be an issue thats starting to become more common and very difficult to fix properly.
PC will just not recognise the TF.
Hmm - sorry i couldnt help more but id still try nv flashing Prime and if you can get to a blank screen using volume up and power without the TF rebooting theres a chance its in apx.
Best of luck dude.......

Got so frustrated with it I just went and bought a tf-300

no better way to fix it than that
nice one
Yea, I like it pretty good so far. Volume is WAY louder on the 300, even though there is only one speaker. The screen also gets darker, which is nice if you watch tv or browse the interwebs in the bed. Also, wifi reception is great. Haven't tried gps yet, but I'm sure it is improved.
It did get really laggy, but I did a factory reset and it seemed to clear out the cobwebs.
Thanks for y'all's help! I'm still going to try to unbrick that tf-101 and sell it or something. Hate to have a $400 paperweight...
People will buy bricked ones on Ebay for a reduced price, just clarify that it is in fact bricked.
