EVERYONE SHOULD SETUP NVFlash NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - G Tablet General

I have been reading around for a while now, and noticed a lot of ppl soft-brick there device and are asking devs for help. I have noticed a lot of issues revolve around people trying to hop form on ROM to another.
A very easy way to recover from any sort of brick(or issue) is to use nvFlash. Its is very easy to setup and use and I highly recommend that everyone should setup nvFlash. You can find the guide on how to set it up from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
I think after the update last night a lot of people will brick there devices trying to mod it, and nvFlash will help you recover. I think we can really help out the dev if we all learn how to use nvFlash, because then they wont have to ans to alot of the support issues that keep coming up, and it will free up some of there time which they can use to create newer roms that will work with the new update.
If for some reason you follow that guide and are not scussefull in setting up nvFlash, then feel free to leave me a pm and i'll help you set it up.

I setup NVFLash a couple of days ago on my Windows laptop.
Am I correct in stating it replaces my need for CWM?
If so is there a site or link on how to use NVFLASH to complete the different task?
Example
Installing a Rom, Kernal, backup, data, etc

No its not a replacement for cwm. NVFlash will help you recover if you every brick your device and need to go back to stock image.
Couple of scenarios where it will be helpful is if you update to the new stock update from VS and decided you want to go back to one of the custom roms like Vegan GB RC1, then you will need nvFlash to go back to stock, otherwise you will brick your device.
Also I have noticed that I have to use nvFlash if I want to go from GB rom to FORYO rom.

Cannot get NV Flash to finish?!?
Very new to this but with the forums help I put TNT 4.2.4 on my Gtab and loved it. I had a hard crash last week and figured I need to use NV Flash to go back to stock or another rom. I put tablet into correct mode and by using USB drivers I am able to load NV Flash, it finished and on tablet the screen says "Entering NVFlash recovery mode / Nv3p Server" and that is it! It never reboots and if I manually reboot I have the same problem - all I get is the birds forever...if I try to boot using vol+ it says "Recovery Key Detected" "Booting recovery kernel image" and it sits forever...need help desperatley!
Thanks for listening

Sounds like the nvflash wasn't successful. The message you are getting when you boot to recovery...Power + vol(+) indicates that CWM is installed. If you nvflashed a stock version, cwm would not be there (unless you nvflashed a stock version with cwm preinstalled). Are you sure you flashed with the correct bootloader version. You should have used the 1.1 b/l version. Here is a link to b/l 1.1 version 3588 with cwm preinstalled http://www.mediafire.com/file/picrzt9pdkuqbj0/gtab.nvflash.1.1.branch.20110422%20with%20cwmv8.zip. Nvflash this & see what happens. By the way. when doing the nvflash, the cmd shell output should look something similar to the attached file...won't be exact since this was for a bl1.2 4349 version I nvflashed yesterday.

What is a code red?

Code Red is the condition of your G Tab. If you follow the link in the signature of Goodintentions post (Viewsonic G-Tablet for Dummies) you will find complete and simple instructions on how to recover your G Tablet. You can also find links to the files you will need. It's a great site for anyone having problems with their tablets. It's where I got all my information when I first started.

Black Screen After bad TNT 5.0 Lite Install

I stupidly installed TNT Lite 5.0 before reading the instructions. My gtab locked at white screen. I panicked. Did a full restore using Nvflash. That put g-tab to 2638. But when I shut off power I can get nothing but a black screen when powering on. The only way to get the tablet to function again is to flash another full restore, and then same problem occurs when I shut down. I cant update because the tablet screen goes black when attempting reboot. I've been reading posts here in the developers forum all day and I haven't come closer to solving my problem, so I need help from someone smarter please.

yes check the first post in the lite thread. It is linked as APK 3588
I downloaded it, but I am not sure how to use it with nvflash as compared to the restore which was relatively simple using the included bat file. Am I missing something or am I just a hopeless Noob?

Hmm?.. Seems there are a lot of users trying to prove the GTAB is in fact Brickable..*lol*
It is NOT!
Go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950
Yes I feel dumb about it. I did read that thread before posting. I did the restore. I can get the gtab to boot up and it is usable.......until I power down, then the only way to use it again is to reflash the restore again. I mean its usable. Not really bricked, really, but I am frustrated because it seems like I am missing the solution.
I used the nvflash from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950 to prep my gtab for 5.0. Once it flashed and booted to the OS, I had it join wireless, then it prompted to start the update to 3588 immediately. Have you tried this?
Yes it downloads the update but to complete the update, it must reboot. When it goes to reboot then the screen goes black and then nothing The only way I can get it to work again is to nvflash it to the complete restore I have been going round in circles with it for hours and hours

Been there.......months later the tablet is still there. I can not power it off or reboot it. I bought another tablet and use "the unbootable" one at home where it sits in a dock until needed.
I have tried every nvflash recommendation out there...
There are about 4 or 5 tablets like this. Most have either been returned/swapped out or set aside and no longer used (from my reading of others with the same problem).
I can get it to boot by formatting partition 2 so if it ever goes off or I need to "update" it I turn it off.....connect it and nvflash it...holding volume + if I need to get to recovery. If not...once nvflash sends the bootloader over and formats partition 2, the device boots.
Something on mine is preventing the bootloader from booting.....the nvflash sending it over executes it and the tablet runs......
redundant - double posted

I got the same problem. I can only power my gtab by doing nvflash, and if i reboot, it only goes into apx mode.
Ouch. That has stopped me in my tracks. It's really bad news.
"Something on mine is preventing the bootloader from booting.....the nvflash sending it over executes it and the tablet runs......"
That's my problem exactly. My wife is going to be very upset. I thought I could keep her gtab updated without bricking it. Oh jeez that's exactly what I've done..........
Suggestion? don't do the update after you nvflash.. let the device boot up normally and put a different ROM zip file on the SD via USB.
Calkulins new ROM is based in TnT is super smooth.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=985705
From there try to reboot into recovery mode with an app like quick boot AniReboot and flash the different rom.
It may be the ROM you're trying to flash is corrupt.
I did the same too. . An didn't read the fine print. After getting the info
on how to fix my bricked gtab. Also, I had to do some Googling on apx
USB drivers for windows 7.
Long story short.. had a few pints. .. got it back to stock and installed tntl 5
The next day.. I'm using it now and I'm happy. Time for another pint.
I thought I bricked my GTab, after several hours of tweaking I was
able to flash it and run TnT Lite 5.0 now. Here is the procedure I did:
a. nvflash to stock rom. download the usb driver for windows 7 here and install (link from post by syntrix) : http://developer.download.nvidia.com/tegra/files/os/tegra_ventana_froyo_20110207.msi
b. grab the stock rom from the post by roebeet, choose "nvflash_windows_20100500.zip" and ""nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip": http://db.tt/Wm25t7U
c. following roebeet's instruction, put Gtab to APX mode (volume down + power on), run nvflash_gtablet.bat, should flash the rom fine.
d. boot the Gtab after flashing, should be able to run the original stock rom.
e. download the 3588 stock rom from this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842000
f. run recovery (volume up + power on) to upgrade to 3588 rom, remember to make a "recovery" folder with "command" (check the prefix and see if is name "sdcard") and rename the downloaded 3588 rom to "update.zip". Put both to the root of the sdcard.
g. now you should have 3588 rom after the recovery
h. download tnt lite 5.0 rom and run a recovery. you will get stuck at a black screen. Just reboot and enter recovery mode again (volume up + power on). do a "wipe data" and reboot. Then you will be able to run TnT lite 5.0. In the recovery mode, the "power" button is "enter", not the "home" button in CWM 0.8. Anyway, just follow the instruction on screen for button layout.
Thanks. I have actually done those and would do them all but G-Tab will only boot once after flash (step d) after that if I power down, I gotta black screened brick until reflashing original ROM again. It is impossible for me to do step "F" from Gaspra post
and with that I give up. I ordered another G-Tab, and I'm using the old one as a plant stand. Who said this can't be bricked? I managed to do it.
Send it to me. I'll pay shipping.

[Q] Asus Transformer & CWM

I rooted my Asus Transformer TF101-B1, but I can't get into Recovery. I know rooting was successful because I get the # prompt in ADB shell and can run root-only apps like Titanium Backup. I've tried every method for getting into CWM/Recovery that I've been able to turn up on XDA and Google, including:
* Running "adb reboot recovery"
* Holding Power + Vol down during boot, then pressing Vol up within 5 seconds of the device powering on.
* Selecting "reboot into recovery" from the ROM Manager app.
Nothing works, it just does a normal boot every time. I even did a factory reset to try and get into the stock recovery (a suggestion I found on another thread here), but that didn't work, either (and my device still appears to be rooted).
I'm hoping someone out there can provide more insight/advice, as I'm pretty well out of options.
Device info:
Android version: 3.0.1
Kernel: 2.6.36.3-00003-g8038d35, android 'at' Mercury #1
Build: HRI66.US_epad-8.2.3.9-20110423
(all stock)
ok, I managed to get into CWM and now my question is, "where can I get the latest version of CWM?" I've seen several posts that just say, "head over to the CWM thread and download the newest version", but they don't give links and I didn't find much searching the forums.
Sorry for being such a n00b...
Im also having a similar problem though my transformer wont do anything after i choose to boot into recovery.

For real. I rooted succesfully. Currently trying to flash a rom, but I don't know how to get into CWM.
Same issue here. Can someone write how they got into CWM?
I used RazorClaw to root my Transformer, yet when I try to reboot into recovery, it gives me the Android with the Caution symbol in the middle. It looks like I cannot get into ClockWorkMod, either.
On www (dot) clockworkmod (dot) com, it does not list the Asus Transformer as being supported with a version of CWM. Rom Manager shows the same thing, so I am forced to select the Xoom or Nook Color.
What are the steps to get from Root to CWM Recovery?
Thanks!
Ok so I'm at the same part of the problem everyone else is in this thread.
I've done the following steps:
Installed Java SDK
Installed Andriod SDK
Rooted via Razorclaw
device is recognized when i do "adb devices" in command shell
install ROM Manager by Clockwork Mod from App store
tried to boot into recovery while connected to PC using Vol Down + Power Button and I get Android Man with Caution with nothing going further. if I unplug the cable from the PC I can't seem to get into Boot Recovery. I've asked for help in asus-transformer on Freenode.net with no help what so ever. From what I can tell my model is a B50
Any help would be appreciated from what I can peice together on the forums the install order would be
Root
CWM on App Market
CWM Recovery by roach
Nandriod
install ROM
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Please any help of the advanced users. Thanks so much.
Problem solved. Had to Open te Gtab and use the Hard Reset button on the back.
My problem now is the CWM. I try to re install it. Put the update.zip and the recovery folder (copy and paste above the cracked recovery from Rom Manager).
When i try to Boot into recovery it freezes on Loading kernel Image.
What can i do now?

If you can get your tablet into APX mode for NVflashing you need to get the latest pack to update your CWM and stock rom to a 1.2 bootloader in order to update to Flashback.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1118898
This will help guide you into switching from 1.1 to 1.2 bootloaders.
.....and for God's sake, whatEVER you do with any other Android device, DON'T use Rom Manager on the GTab. You'll soft brick it 9 out of 10 times you use it. It's a fairly well documented issue with this device. just my 2 cents....
I would have to agree that if you are now able to get into APX mode, the best thing you can do is to NVFlash back to a stock 1.1 or 1.2 bootloader (see the previously mentioned thread) and start over from the beginning. Know which ROM you intend to use before you choose an NVFlash path, so that you flash to the proper bootloader version for the ROM you want to use.
Help, Gtab won't boot
My G-tab will not boot. It will only go to the APX mode. I have been reading this site for the past three days and have tried everything that I can find but nothing works. I can load CW and complete all of the steps, I can even get the gtab to boot up when I nvflash it but as soon as I reboot the gtab it goes into the APX mode. I would appreciate any help with this.

Take a look at gtabletfordummies website. Start with code RED if you haven't already done exactly those steps. Use the NvFlash file from their site for your bootloader version with CWM already installed. If you have to use code DETOX and have problems after, you may need to search XDA again for "magic value mismatch error". (Sorry I can't post links so you will have to search!) Make sure you read everything and don't skip any steps.
Thanks for the reply but I have already went through all of the different sections of Gtablet for Dummies and my gtablet will still not boot past the APX mode.
Only other thing I can think of to try would be to remove the back cover of your tablet and hold (10 - 15 seconds) the internal reset button on the back of the board. That should factory reset it. Search this site (xda) for "gtablet hardware breakdown" for pictures and some info about taking it apart.

Are you running a rom or stock, and if so which one? Have you tried this yet? That should work for you, but if you are running the ICS rom you will need to follow the instructions in the first post of the ICS thread under 'How to Install MTP Drivers'.
I am just using stock install right now and I am trying to get a rom on there. When I go to boot into APX it just sits at "Booting recovery kernel image" - it never gets past that. I am not sure why.
I actually did try your post before I posted myself. I have tried this multiple time on multiple machines with various flavors of Windows - XP, Vista, and Win7.
Thanks for the help.

Strange ... sounds like it is failing to boot into recovery, not APX mode. When you boot to APX it should show the 3 birds screen for a second, then go completely black (looks like it is turned off, but it is actually in APX). It shouldn't say anything. Are you holding Volume Down while pressing the power button? If you are, try holding Volume Up instead, I have heard that some Gtabs have the volume controls switched.
About the 'Booting Recovery Kernel Image', did you install a different recovery (CWM)? If so, which bootloader are you on and which recovery version did you try to install?

Hey there, there are a few pre-steps that need to be done befor you can start flashing ROMs on a gtab.
A good reference is here
You will crap oout your gtab but as long as you know how to NVFlash a gatb is almost impossible to brick. KEYWORD ALMOST. The scret is ensureing you NVFLash the right BootLoader to the ROM you are trying to load. An example nvflash BL1.2 for a 1.2 ROM like CM7 there is also BL1.1 so be certain of what you are trying to load...

Your gTab is displaying the same behavior as mine. I went to install CWM, and it failed to install. Afterwards, my Amazon App store kept crashing every time I opened it. I tried reinstalling, and everything else (mostly games for the kids) started crashing also. I decided to go back to factory settings. It powered off, and then gave me the same message: Booting recovery kernel image with the three birds on the screen. It does not give me an option to choose a recovery. I followed instructions to recover from the external SD card, but it only sits there at the booting recovery kernel image message. Doesn't seem to make a difference whether I power on with the volume key pressed or not. It always goes to the same message.
Did you have any luck getting past that message with your gTab?

Matt, If I'm not mistaken you're using the wizard to try and install the APX USB drivers to your computer. You have to MANUALLY point Windows to the folder containing the correct driver and it should find it. Otherwise it will give you that same message.

[Q] [HELP NEEDED] Asus TF101 Stuck on splash screen ADB doesn't work!

Right, I searched on numerous pages on these wonderful forums, but couldn't quite find what I was looking for. So I'll try my luck here. I'll describe my problem.
My TF101 was rooted using the CWM recovery. After doing more research I found out I shouldn't be doing this. But, unfortunately the damage has already been done. After several succesful ROM installations I wasn't quite happy with, I tried one last CM10 install. That's when it all went to ****. My TF101 has been stuck on the Eee Pad splash screen for nearly 2 months now.
Normally when going into the recovery mode I can simply select install from SD card and install a new rom. Now it can't seem to mount and displays E:Can't mount \SD card or whatever.
Further on, I tried using the ADB tools to manually restore system files. Without luck. After which I tried to install the naked USB drivers using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426502. Without luck as well. I simply ran out of ideas.
The thing is, in Device manager I do see a device called Android. But, for some reason I can't seem to install any drivers for it. I guesse this would be the first step towards getting it back to work? Or perhaps I should just get it fixed at the computer store?
Any sugestions would be more than welcome!
Easy Flasher will get you back to stock as long as you can access APX. You will lose all data however.
1st mistake read forum before you do something, coz you would have learnt abt CWM issues, anyway thatsvan old story
You got Two options, find an flash able twrp.zip and flash it using current recovery if its still working otherwise as the other guy says easyflasher
To use easy flash you need
Easy flash software from forum
Universal naked driver installed
Asus firmware and PATIENCE
Follow the steps given in the forum and you should get back a tablet running stock rom, then if you want then use easy flash to root your device again but this time use TWRP recovery.....
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda app-developers app
Right, so far I've done everything I could find. I have installed the naked ADB files and thus was able to make a connection through USB. However, I wasn't able to push any files onto the tablet through ADB commands.
I entered the (what I assumed to be) APX mode and tried to use EasyFlasher. It seemed to have worked, because a DOS screen asked me whether or not I wanted to overwrite several files. After ending the procedure I rebooted my tablet. And guesse what: CWM is still there and the tab is still stuck on the Splash screen. Also the internal SD still can't be mounted.
What am I doing wrong. I'm slowly but surely going mad here....
hmmm, easyflasher should not prompt you to overwrite anything, it should just wipe it clean. The only prompt is when you select SBK1 or SBK2.
Can you post screenshots? It'd help us understand what exactly is going on...

Can you post screenshots? It'd help us understand what exactly is going on...

Right. Apparently I didn't put it in APX mode correctly. Windows asked me to install APX drivers. Which I now did. I then (I assume) was able to install the new recovery. The screen says !!!!phone update succes!!!!!. As we speak I am trying to install the stock ROM. Fingers crossed.....

I'll just sum up what I've been doing so far, because it still ain't working for me....
1) Put the TF101 in APX mode using POWER + VOLUME UP
2) Started up EasyFlasher 0.8.3 and selected "Flash Asus stock zip / Unbrick"
3) When prompted "file ..\temp\META-INF\MANIFEST.MF" already exists I selected "A(u)to rename all"
4) And then starts doing it's thing
5) Stuck at creating and formatting 15 partitions with several three letter codes.
I've ran the program three times now, but without luck. Any sugestions?~
[EDIT]Alright, managed to get it to work! Ended the tasks in through task manager about 4 times, but the 5th time was a charm. Exactly work as said. All thanks to EasyFlasher![/EDIT]
