I tried it before. Well without my SD card in. And still had the shutdowns. So who knows for sure.

Not gotten it around to try it yet, i could see how this is possible after seeing the other fix of cleaning the battery leads. The idea I'm getting from how this COULD work would be that the system is expecting a higher voltage limit when the SD card is present and it's still fluxating outside of it. Remove the SD card and it'll hold the original fluxuation limits but reduce the actual size of the fluxuations during use. Best explanation of how this MIGHT work assuming it does.

What if the phone doesn't have an external memory card to take out? Is there a way to take out the internal one?
Iv tried taking out my sim card and by doing so it did not shut down on me. But what good is a phone with no sim card!
This is a replacement phone (refurbished) and im still waiting for them to get back to me with a second replacement. But iv been waiting two weeks so far.

Today, I received my replacement Captivate. I had it replaced because of the random shutdowns.
The tech support rep who issued the replacement informed me that the shutdown problem is caused by a manufacturing defect on all phones built before November 6th, 2010.
If your phone is shutting down, best get it replaced before the warranty expires.

Ya I believe that the shutdown issue is caused by bad ram so not sure how this could solve the issue. But who am I to argue if it works

My Captivate is built before November and it had the random shutdowns.
Rarely, it was automaticaly fixed when i flashed the first Froyo leak from AT&T, the day it was posted..

just want to report back that this method did not work for me...
I charged the phone fully unmounted the SD card and removed and went to sleep and when I woke up the phone had shutdown

I'm seriously sick of this ****. I've flashed back to complete stock Rogers and calling them tomorrow. Up to 10 shutdowns in an hour, totally random...even had a shutdown during a call this week. Fed up...

I had the shutdown issue. Installed a custom rom. Shutdown issue gone

I think a lot of us on here are trying to find a solution because we can't get it replaced due to not being in the US

I believe it is a manufacturing defect, and it seems to be caused by bad memory modules, but I don't think it is present on all phones built before November 6th, 2010. I have owned my phone since the end of August and have never had a random shutdown. I suspect there were some bad batches of memory and there is no way to trace exactly what phones they ended up in, so any phone manufactured before November 6th could have a bad memory module, but may not.

Random Reboot Answer

My Thunderbolt has been having more and more resets so I finally called Verizon back again and got a really cool guy in technical support. I was asking about a replacement which I am really against because mine is new and I don't want a refurbished phone. He told me that honestly I should wait, one of the people that works by him has a Thunderbolt and has had the same problems with reboots. The coworker had tried rooting as many of us have and many other things with no success. Finally, they went back to another phone after Verizon was made aware by HTC that the last update did indeed have a bug in it. The new software update to fix this problem should release between mid June and early July as well as battery life aid as well. I know many have discussed this, but I thought it would be nice to have a first hand account for everyone to read. Now to continue using my phone that resets itself between 10 and 18 times a day.

Possible fix???
I just got my TB from Verizon in early June and started getting the reboots (around 2 - 4 a day)...
This past weeked, after I saw the phone restart for the 5th time, I started playing with system settings...
Under Power, I disabled Power Saver... and since then (3 days... ) the phone has not restarted...
Of course I don't know if shutting this off is a good or bad thing... will keep monitoring...
BC
I don't understand how that would cause a reboot? Maybe if its constantly monitoring the phone or something but otherwise, your power saver would only do anything when your batter dropped below the predetermined level.
Would be interesting if it is the answer.
pretty sure verizon and the local Devs have all confirmed it was the radio that came with the OTA update causing the issue. I had the same problem till the mr2 radio leaked. updated to that and immedietly no more reboots or random shutdowns.

No problems on stock here..
I shouldnt have to
The problem is with stock is that there should be no problems at all
I got my third replacement last week and still has reboots and freeze issues!
Talked to tmo tech today and told me to get a new sim card again! I just replaced the sim less than 2 months ago!
We'll see if this fixes the problem which most likely not!
I did notice the sim cards are different so who knows!

I've used stock mostly and no issues. Don't really trust the roms right now since it's kinda like trying to wax a car that's already beat up. I wanna wait until there is a solid base to work off of before customizing.

Not being ignorant, but why do people think reboots, freezing, etc will be fixed with an exchange? I know hardware varies slightly but your just returning a phone for one that has the same software causing the same issues....Am I wrong?
I sent one back this week only because of excessive light bleeding. Even that is not that big of a deal but I figured why not.

Good luck. My second phone is great since I got it yesterday. No bleeding, no reboots, and gps locks in 2 seconds. The phone I returned had bleeding, reboots, shutoffs, and a 2+ min gps lock.

Help 2 dead inspires within 2 weeks!!

Okay I bought my first Inspire in march for 6 months it was great.. No problems at all... Then 3 weeks ago it died on me.. I plugged it up and no lights or anything came on.. So I did a battery pull.. When I put the battery back in it made 5 or 6 vibrating pulses but that was it... So I called ATT they said battery as bad and sent me a new one.. I got it 3 days later and put it in.. I got the same 5 or 6 pulses.. So now after being without a phone for 4 days I was pissed.. So I drove to ATT they tried diffrent batteries and chargers with no success so they had the warranty dept send me a new one.. I got it 2 weeks ago and now it died just like my first one.. except I left it took apart for 2 days nd now when I plug it up the red LED actually lights up but still all it will do is vibrate..
Also Ive tried doing a hard reset by holding volume down and power for 10 seconds but still dont get any response.. Is there any hope oth than going through warranty again??
---------- Post added at 04:53 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:19 AM ----------
Little update: Actually I just unplugged it and the LED stays solid red even while not on charge
Have you installed a new app lately that was recent right b4 you get the error. Sounds like your boot sector is becoming corrupt. Or you have insanely bad luck. Unless someone has a better idea
sent from my Inspire 4G running ClearDroid 1.1.51
No I honestly dont use the market alot the last app I installed was like 2 weeks before the first one died.. The app was netflix BTW.. And I did not reinstall it to the new device..
Im calling ATT today to have them send me a new one I guess..
It's possible you received a bad phone. Are you rooting your phone or no? My stepdads just did that and I know its none of the above I set up all his stuff and didn't root him. Just running through possible issues before you have to deal with them more
sent from my Inspire 4G running ClearDroid 1.1.51
Nope neither were ever rooted.. And yeah im kinda worried its going to do it again.. I went 6 months with no problems then all of a sudden 2 die the same way?? I just dont get it
Not saying both phones were bad because it happens sometimes. But usually when it does happen you have to look at the common factors. Since you already tried different batteries and chargers, what about the sd card or sim card? Have you tried to boot phone without either inserted?
I also see you mentoned the netflix app. Is it possible you may have over heated your phone playing videos?

but he didn't install netflix on the second one, so that can't be the common denominator
The Universe is Cracked, The Pandorica will Open, Silence will Fall
Do you have anything setup to run at bootup that could be causing issues.

Well like Capt Nero said I never put netflix on the second phone.. I only had it for 2 weeks so I didnt really get any of my old apps installed..
And I have tried booting with no sim and no SD card but it still wont do anything..

I never set anything up run at boot.. the only thing I could think might have done that would be lookout security but again that never made it to the second phone..
I really dont think I just got 2 bad phones.. Im almost positive it has to be somthing on my end but I just cant figure it out..
Lookout security is known to cause problems with phones on at&t my friend had 4 phones go out with it. Stopped using it no problems on her current phone.
Edit/addition: lookout could be what killed first phone. And then you just got a bum replacement. Or you could have a virus running rampant on your SD card that is killing your boot sector and phone.

Never had any issues w/ Lookout.
I es just speaking out of experience of going and arguing with the warranty counter with my friend 4 times. And tx aren't you rooted. Your kernel and Rom could not have any issues like the ota and ATT Rom can have with it.

Okay well I got my 3rd Inspire in the mail today.. I noticed 2 things.. 1 this one is a different color.. Not the red one but its a darker grey.. Second the red notifaction LED I said the second one had is NOT the regular amber charging LED.. I didnt even notice untill I plugged the new one up..
Ill try to get the light to come back on and take a pic.. Anyone know anything about this second LED???
Oh and im going to format my SD before putting it in the new phone and also not installing lookout.. I cant keep going without a phone

[Q] HTC Sensation crash log location

Hi guyz,
My HTC crashes indefinitely without any reason. I still don't know if its a hardware crash of because of software. I'm waiting for the ICS OTA update to see if the crash is caused by software.
Is there any log file where I can see what caused the system crash?
Thanks in advance
Are you rooted? You could try getting the device to produce a logcat while running and then reproduce what it does to crash, but I don't think it will create one on its own....
sent from my android powered beast!
No its not rooted. Stock HTC 2.3.4 with Htc sense.
And I doubt my memory card is in good state. It turns off immediately after switching it on when I see a message "Preparing SD card".
Its been 4 hours since I removed my SD card. So far so good.
Hmmm. Have you tried with an alternative SD card? Might be somehow the software is corrupt when trying to mount the SD, causing the boot loop. Or just a knackered SD card
sent from my android powered beast!
I din try an alternative SD card.
Bad news. Crashes without SD card too.
Will try a factory reset. And even after reset if the device crashes, gotta head to the service center

sounds like your best bet. as long as your s-on and stock they cant refuse
Have same problem, it shuts down periodically without reason. I sent it on service today, will se what they say this time.
It happens to me since I bought it (july 2011), and it was on service 2 times yet for same problem. 1st time they changed my motherboard, and 2nd got new battery, and the problem is still not fixed.
I recorded the crash with my 2nd phone (srry for bad camera ) link:
1. youtu.be/9FF4GnAZiJU
2. youtu.be/rgUFPIXB-s4
Do you have crashes like this or...?
My bf has the same crashes! Maybe we can compare software? If it's hardware related, a new motherboard would have helped.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD A9191 using XDA
Yeah, but with new motherboard i got same problem. After re-flashed software everything is ok for 2-3 weeks, and than again same problems (crashes). I don't know what to do...
Well my Sensation is still in service, will come in few days and i hope the problem is fixed or I get new phone .

S7 keeps freezing and restarting

Hi Guys /girls.
Just got an S7, brand new on O2 (UK). I usually root my phones but haven't touched this as it's quick enough and I don't want to play around with it until the warranty ends.
In the past few days the phone has been freezing, then it will turn off, sometimes restarting entering a bootloop. It will come back on for a minute or two, then repeats.
At the moment it is working following a forced restart but not sure if this will last. Has anyone else had these issues? Or does anyone know what it could be? Going to get it swapped anyway just to make sure but I can't understand the cause. Thanks in advance
Had the same issue this moth, send it to warranty it will only be worse over the days. Samsung replaced my mbo and now everything is ok
Getting worse.... Trying to get it sorted with O2 is an absolute joke, their customer service is disgusting. Been into two stores and on the phone to them twice and they're not simply swapping it for me.... I haven't even had the device three weeks

Are you using anything the same as with the last one, like a MicroSD card or headphones etc?
Anything that is common between the two phones?
Same app that might be doing it? Maybe a restore from a Google backup when you first boot up reinstalling a buggy app?
Did you upgrade firmware to the latest version? It might be a software bug.
Seems fine now cheers guys. Auto frmware updates (x2) were done last night....must have been a one off. Definitely won't be rooting this device like my older phones!
