I am using Dexters xt720 Froyo 1.1b but have not been able to get auto correction to work with the language I have selected (English Canada). When I mistype words it does not suggest a correction, it simply suggests the mistyped word which is not very useful.
Does anyone have word autocorrection working on their phones? its almost as though the rom does not have the associated dictionary for the available languages.
I think some dictionary is maybe missing, I tried switching from English (Canada) to English (US) and still had no suggestions/autocorrect.
The solution is to download an alternate keyboard from the market. People are suggesting better keyboard. I went with Keyboard from Gingerbread Free.

What's the easiest way to add a language? I prefer not to mess with the ROM, and I know I can get multiple language support with a third party software like touchpal, but is it possible to add one langauge (for T9 and/or spellcheck) without adding any software?
actually just tried touchpal and it's pretty good, no spellcheck but the T9 should be enough, I think I'll stick with it
Language packs for spelling checkers exist, for instance made by Molski.biz. These are just cab files you have to install. You'd have to search around a bit on this forum.
was just going around though the apps of my polaris and i found out i got no handwriting recognition on the keyboard settings :S
the "keyboards" available to me are the touch keyboard and the normal keyboard but no handwriting option available, do i have to Download it or something? if so, where can i find it?
best regards to all
Microsoft thinks that some languages aren't supported and thus they remove that feature.
I used this for my Swedish phone:
http://www.smartmobile.se/files/Qtek 9100/enableRecognizersSVE.CAB
Not sure if it works for any language, but I guess it should. Just remember to turn on accented characters, so you get the non-English letters as well
do a search on transcriber cab file
ok, i got the enable recognizers thingy, i can select it but nothing happens, i'm kinda new to this pda thing, but wasn't handwriting recongniton a "major" feature of pda's? i'm trying to use it on portuguese atm...
Hi, I've searched alot and it's hard to find something that work for me.
I use a WWE rom and therefore I've installed a cab that adds a Swedish T9. But I can't add words to it. Is there a way to edit the dictionary (add, delete, edit words)?
The eT9mywords doesn't work for this. (when I try to add a word, it doesn't add it).
For example my curent T9 suggest "YOU" instead of "you" (but in swedish of course). So if it exist a better version of Swedish T9 it might solve my problems.
I hope their is a solution for this!

Hello,
I got a new LG Optimus One (P500), where i can switch between two keyboards. The default input method is LG keyboard where everything works fine, including word suggestions in English and Czech (my locale).
However, the android keyboard fits me better, but the word suggestions won't work. The only thing that shows up are suggestions from contacts, such as first names, but nothing from the English or Czech dictionary.
In the settings, I got suggestions checked, input languages are set to English and czech.
Any idea on how to fix this, please?
thanks
I don't know if this is an original question, I just joined the site, and reading through this forum convinced me that this is the tablet I am looking for.
I just began studying Japanese this quarter, and I would love to be able to augment my studying with the Galaxy Note 10.1.
Obviously this device does not only ship to the US, so I am sure it recognize other language input. Practicing writing sentences will of course not be a problem. What I want to know is if the device will recognize the kana and print it to the screen. I feel that it can be a great practice tool for perfecting my writing if the software can identify it.
Is it as simple as changing the keyboard language? Will I need to root my device?
I'm studying Japanese as well, but I don't see the option to input kana. The only East Asian input languages I could download for the keyboard was Korean and Chinese. There's no download for Japanese language. It's so disappointing! I have the US Wi-Fi version of the Note 10.1 (N8013), though. The international version might have Japanese input but I don't know for sure.
You could always try using a 3rd party keyboard from the Play Store, however, they may not have handwriting recognition. So I'd parse through the app store before you go out and buy one.
If you're using a language from the default list in the settings menu (there's not too many in the list), there is no need to root. All you have to do is download the font from the Settings menu.
I hope I didn't confuse you or anything...
EDIT:
I did a quick Google search and someone had recommended downloading MultiLing Keyboard + the Japanese plug-in + the HanWriting system to get Japanese handwriting input OR you can purchase an app called 7notes with mazec (Japanese). MultiLing is free and 7notes costs $10.47 (there is a trial version but that's Japanese only). I would post links but I can't since I'm a newbie. D:
I'm gonna test out the MultiLing one first, then the 7notes trial since the latter is quite expensive.
Yes, you can write and read japanese in almost any app, even you can set japanese as the main language if you want. (all the menus and options will appear in japanese).
The default keyboard (samsung keyboard) doesn't have japanese as writing language, but no problem, just use any third party keyboard with japanese support, I use (and recommend) Multiling Keyboard (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.klye.ime.latin), it has plugins for japanese and handwriting (works very well with the spen)
And there are good learning apps for writing in japanese, like Hiragana Learning Experiment (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.legendarya.helloandroid) that can help you to improve your writing skills.
No root is required at all.
Thank you for the replies. This is perfect.
I use 7 notes with mazec (Japanese) - it is some notes application that I don't use, but it also installs a japanese keyboard with handwriting recognition for kana and kanji (and also romanji and numbers). Looks like samsung handwriting keyboard and works very well. Well worth its price (and there is free version to try):
7notes with mazec in play store
Is there any "keyboard" that will recognize input of handwritten kanji directly?
Japanese keyboards that I found all depend on kana input.

yep, have you tried Multiling Keyboard that I mentioned above?
No, but I did download the trial version of 7Notes with mazec and that seems ok for input of words and phrases but it still has ways to go before it handles sentences our word combinations. Also perhaps a little on the expensive side. I will use this for a week to see how I get along with it and the I'll try the Multiling keyboard, it just sounds like it requires downloading a lot of language specific files.
The Samsung keyboard on their Note series has good handwriting recognition and I noticed I could download Japanese as one of the supported languages. I did just that but I couldn't get it to recognize any kind of Japanese input.
