Tab Compatible & Optimized Apps - Galaxy Tab Themes and Apps

That's a good start! It's a really sad state of things that we just have a handful of tablet-optimized apps while iPad had thousands even before it's launch!

The ipad had the same problem as the tab with apps not going full screen, ALL apps should scale properly if it was coded right ie: angry birds looks amazing on the tab and its not even a HD version

Yea, there is a workaround on iPad to make iPhone apps run fullscreen just like we have spare parts! However, I was talking about iPad-specific/optimized apps which are way more way high in number and quality than the ones on the Tab!

It has been out for almost a year tho, after honeycomb is released the market will be flooded with apps. Remember that there are only a handful of android devices running a 7inch+ screen

Games:
Can Knockdown
Crusade of Destiny
Gun Bros
Dink HD (Dink Smallwood)
Dungeon Defenders
Those are what I have on my tab right now, but there were others I didn't keep.

Ok Im tapped out

I thought this was about maintaining a list of apps optimized for Tab? Are there actually Tablet optimized versions of all those apps in the OP?

That's why I titled this "compatible & optimized"

I don't think there would be any apps that would be not compatible per-say! It's running Froyo after all and the only issue apps may have, is about scaling which can be taken care of by Spare Parts!

Just because an app works in full screen doesn't mean its compatible. There are a lot of apps that have full screen graphics issues or not all button commands are on point. The purpose of the list is to show the apps that work well on the tab, just install and that's it, no mods. Not to mention there are plenty of apps that don't work well with the galaxy line regardless of 2.2. If you don't like the thread you have the ability to start your own.

Agree with you. I have tried hundreds of apps, and they all work fine!
It'd be more usefull to list apps that DO NOT work fine on the tab

Where are the games?

So I've had my phone for a couple weeks now, I was hearing all this buzz about how awesome Android is now and how far it's come so I just took the plunge. The phone has been fun to use and explore as far as widgets are concerned etc... but if I would ever make this my full time device it would have to do everything that my other phone (iPhone4) does. This brings me to the games... so far on the market all I've seen are pretty shoddy looking atari or nintendo looking games, where are all the graphically intensive and/or beautifully designed games in the market? How do I find games that actually take advantage of the GPU in my phone (Galaxy S)?
Gameloft has bunch of 3D games like Avatar and Assiasin's Creed for Android on their website, I can't post links so just google it or go to Gameloft.com and go to their Android section.
Also, emulators

Why don't you go buy a dumb flip phone and supplement it with a PDA? Oh, maybe because you want one device to do multiple things? Imagine that. With phones like the Epic out, phones are starting to pack some pretty nice GPUs - you shouldn't dismiss gaming just like that.
To the OP: Check out Gameloft's stuff like someone else mentioned, they really are top of the line, but they refused to list their games in the marketplace. SNESoid, NESoid can run SNES/NES games. There's also some decent paid games in the Marketplace, you can usually find a demo or Lite version to try. With more people flocking to Android, more developers will start creating fleshed out games other than Bejweled clones (hopefully).

I wonder why people say garbage like oh get a PSP if you want to play games, Or if you want to use a navigation system get a gps, etc. I for one buy a device so I can do it all with one device. Or else I wouldn't buy it. End of point.
oh if you want a phone buy a land line phone instead it works better??? Logical I think not!

Except Gameloft that begins to bring its Iphone hits to Android, there are few 3D games on our favorite platform.
Few days ago, I played Asphalt 5, that's not a bad game, because Gameloft proposed some free demo versions on its website (not avalaible n the market)
You can also try some good games you can find on the market like Speed forge 3D or Replica Island (not in 3D but a very good game).
At least you can try emulators (gensoid, gameboid...)

Best tool for the job is the simple summary. I for one am glad that the entire market isn't dominated by games.. With all of the porn and sound boards there wouldn't be any actual useful apps left.

Cool video, showed me some games I'd missed.
A question about Gameloft's games; I downloaded Dungeon Hunter, love it!
aTrackDog tells me there's a more up-to-date version than what I have, but I can't access it from the market.
Are their games auto update? Or do I need to do it manually?

Thanks for this! The GameLoft trial page lists many games but Nova and Asphalt5 HD are curiously absent. An Asphalt5 HD trial came with my US Tab (looks nice fullscreen and works very well), but Nova didn't. I haven't found it until I saw this thread. Just hadn't looked hard enough I guess. I'd probably have uploaded Asphalt already for other didn't get it preloaded since it's a demo but I'm not certain it doesn't break the forum rules.
Seems like NOVA is international version GTab exclusive.
The full version of Nova appears to be a exclusive pack-in, yes. However, installing from Gameloft's site as the OP mentions works fine. It's a demo but at least it's available for play / purchase. So, it's not an exclusive as in "won't run" on any other GTab.
Just tried the demo. Very cool!

Post your best Note Apps!

Hey everyone,
I thought we should make a thread for 'must have' Note apps!
Not necessarily your favorite apps (there are hundreds of threads for those), but apps that really show off the power of the note.
I'm thinking stuff like:
1) stuff like the most visually impressive/cpu intensive HD games.
2) Apps that have complex layouts/small fonts that really take advantage of the Note's 5.3" screen
3) Apps that take advantage of the stylus.
Also like to hear about any other 'must have' apps too.
To kick this off:
NOled - A notification 'light' substitute since we don't have a notification LED (the only thing I really dislike about the note)
Misc stylus games:
Crayon physics would be a lot of fun with the stylus
I play a couple of picross games, which is kind of a graphical sodoku. The grid is much larger (nemo picross has 25x25 grids). It will be SO nice to be able to see/use the entire 25x25 grid with a stylus - I have big fingers and I normally zoom to only see a 12x12 section or so.
Some RPGs have really tiny text - I play illusia and I really strain to read some of the words on my mytouch 4g.
Hopefully getting the Note soon - looking forward to seeing your recommendations!
- Frank
I'll have lots of recommendations in the coming days, mine arrives tomorrow!
This is difficult.. lol. But I've to mention it because I'm also a fanatic note user. Thumb Keyboard (a keyboard I wrote myself) is really great on this device. In the past I wrote, upon request, a special 5" screen layout for the dell streak and I had a lot of enthusiastic responses. Now I understand why lol.
Btw the keyboard will be updated this week to address the (xtra) high density of the Note. (Now the secondary symbols are way too small)

That is great news, I use your keyboard on my Tab 10.1 and will install it on the Note when it arrives later this week.
status bar expander - expand notification bar widget. might make the note a bit more one handed friendly
Shadowgun works perfectly, SGS II version.
Gt Racing HD (gameloft), Brothers in Arms 2 HD, Diversion, Dungeon Hunter, Splinter Cell and Backstab HD also works. (in some menus are not full screen, but playing full screen without problems)
No moar Powah!, (chainfire) works.
Copilot live works witouth problems.
I use Spare Parts, to fit screen on some apps.
Regards.
I am really glad about chainfire working. Can't wait for my Note to arrive.
Galaxy on Fire 2 THD, Shadowgun Tegra one, Fruit Ninja THD, Samurai II: Vengeance THD, Pinball THD all work great with Chainfire 3d
Apart from these, Riptide HD, Asphal 6, Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Block Breaker 3, Speed Forge 3D, Air Attack HD, Reckless Racing, Reckless Getaway work quite well. I have more that I got to try.
RS11 doesn't scale on menu, uninstalled before trying game , Starfront Collisions doesn't load so uninstalled as well.
EDIT : PES 2011 works well as well.

Hi n.vasiliu, always good to see an old poster surface again.
Yes, I sold the GTab 7" quite a few months back and purchased an Asus Transformer to replace it.
Since the time of the Tab I've had the original Galaxy S, the Galaxy SII (which I still have) and now the Galaxy Note will be shipping to me today.
So, you may find me popping in and around all those forum section.

Frank,
Have you been using this App for a long time?
The reason I ask is I note there is no trial period for this App or an Adds version.
I'm always weary of purchasing an App when to test it properly it requires longer than the mandatory 15mins which Google now allows.

Is there a decent app for taking notes? The Memo app is great, for simple Memo's, but if you're in a meeting and want to take notes, you need multiple pages, or to at least be able to scroll downwards.
Anyone know of such an app?

What is the point?

1-What is point of buying FULL HD tablet and most the apps are not optimize for it..(Like the IPAD 3 there are a few apps that are optimize )
2-What is the point, every time i go GOOGLE PLAY to buy an app ,it is not compatible with my devices.
{Almost 90% of EA games and 90% of GAMELOFT games are compatible with my devices.}
What else i'm i missing........
MOD EDIT: REMOVED
This is the future of tablets along with 2gigs of ram like the Note 10.1. Eventually apps will be optimized for tablets and for higher res screens. Google has spoken out and said that they will focus on tablet apps optimization so its only a matter of time before most devs are on board. Yes many apps are not optimized for the FHD screen but I havent had any issues with all the apps Ive downloaded far and i already have about 150 apps installed. I dont know about you but I like knowing that my FHD screen tablet will still be valid in the coming years vs one with an aging lower res screen.

Text, which is used on ebooks, web browse, several games etc. But if you have Infinity or FHD device, just go use non FHD device now. You will immediately notice blurriness on texts. My eyes are bad, but even then I noticed the difference on my old iPad 2 after 2 weeks of Infinity.
The problem is that everything is made for the Galaxy. And we know all that has a resolution that looks 10 years old compared to the TF700. Devs are too stupid or too lazy to figure out it's easier to downscale than upscale. (Evidently I mean those on Google Play and not the folks here, let's keep those two seperate.)
As for compatibility issues, developers are too lazy to add 'Transformer TF700" to that text file in the google play store that lists compatible devices. (How hard is it to do that when you add the Nexus 7?! Morons) Fact is all EA and Gameloft games work FINE on the TF700.
many apps/games which are shown as not compatible are working fine if you copy a titanium backup from your phone to the tab!

When an app or games looks really promising, I'll always try side-loading from my Galaxy SII -- works more often than not. With Total Commander, you can just send over the raw apk file as well.
I have removed a few post in here guys, remember this site is for everyone, be mindful of what you say. Thank you!

I Blame Asus, they should call the Game developer and ask the why the game is not compatible with their device.
When Asphalt 7: Heat came out it wasn't compatible with the Nexus 7,but Google make sure that was compatible in a few days.
Asus is making Good Hardware but does really spend time on the software.....
I look at it this way:
I went through the same pain when Vista first came out, only it was software *AND* device drivers (for hardware). IOW, Been there, done that.
Yeah, it is annoying that some apps are not available for my Infinity. But, most are. And I am good with that.
As mentioned above, I'd rather be ahead of the curve in terms of hardware than behind it. Having used my Infinity for a couple of months now I could never use anything less than the resolution I am using on it on any other tablet.
What is the point of spending $500 or more on a tablet device and not getting Full HD?

app doesn't support the resolution?

Does anyone encounters an issue where the app doesn't support the increased resolution provided by the tablet? I was just reading a cNet review and an example given was the marvel comics app. I'm not really interested in using the tablet for productivity. It's more of media consumption device and playing simple games like plants vs zombies.
And I won't buy tegra games as that locks me in. Thanks
Most of the apps that aren't supported, will work if they are sideloaded. They will not be high resolution though, and may not scale properly.

since 1920x1200 is not common (I've only seen 3 tablets using it), does that mean most apps won't display it properly? just somehow doubt devs will be updating their apps for something that is not common.
Yes, some apps will not display like should, but most of them will work. Some devs are working on updating their apps, but the majority still use low resolution displays.
Since most devs only make their apps for phones any HD tablet will have issues with the resolution. Most of them are also too stupid/lazy/arrogant to use proper scaling..
I especially 'love' the idiots who make an app for the iPad, and then convert it for android, and the android app doesn't support higher resolutions than a crappy 720....

Yup,
Wallpapers are easy to "develop" lol...
Sometimes when cruising the store the good app builders offer trial HD versions of the free versions.
Not most...a few do.
Back in June this year there was hardly anything HD wise.

Was very interested in getting an infinity but this lack of apps that will use the resolution and the lack of apps with UI optimized for tablets is what's holding me back. try again next year I guess
