YOu know how you can buy those little car chargers that broadcast an fm signal of what your phone/ipod is playing? well, does that evo have this capability? if so is there an app for this? I think this would be awesome

Could be wrong, but I don't think the evo has the necessary hardware to make this possible. I had a phone with a transmitter a while back, the LG musiq, and it had a separate antenna to broadcast.
I wish the Evo had this! This is something the N900 has and externally it doesn't appear to have a extra antenna.
I'm pretty sure that I read that the FM chip is capable of broadcasting and receiving, so I think it's possible.
Yes it does it just needS to be activated

it would be so nice to have this. whenever your in someones car and they have no aux input on their stereo, totally blows!
Confirmed Transmitter
According to this page from the broadcom website it does have a transmitter.
http://www.broadcom.com/products/Bluetooth/Bluetooth-RF-Silicon-and-Software-Solutions/BCM4329
The Broadcom BCM4329 integrates a complete IEEE 802.11 a/b/g/n system (MAC/baseband/radio) with Bluetooth® 2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), and FM radio receiver and transmitter.
Popping my cherry on an app post.. should have been to thank Toast, hero, Flipz.. etc hah
I would kill for this. Okay, maybe not kill, but I'd definitely pony up some bucks for it. The crap FM transmitters you find at the store are overpriced and poor hardware.
I'm starting to get into creating apps with the end goal of authoring my own ROMs. If anyone can point me in the right direction (or if test subjects are needed), I'm not worried about borking my EVO
This device http://direct.motorola.com/ens/carkits/learn-T505.html from Motorola works that way (I know it works on the Pre and other devices that can stream music over bluetooth)
Are u guys suggesting that something like this device be enabled from within the phone itself? If so, that'd be awesome!!! I'd pay for that too!!! (Cuz, I've been holding off on buying one of these, bt the price is going down, so I might get one soon)

Um yes, it streams music over bluetooth to car radio. I use it in my car everyday with pandora.
Way better then satellite radio.
To whoever is planning on attempting to develop this:
I will give you a check. Put whatever amount you'd like on it. Must have this!
i was wondering this same thing earlier this morning. This would be incredible.
Just curious, anyone planning on writing an app for this or anything in the worx? I had one of those LG Fusics, then an LG Musiq back in the day, which both had the FM transmitting ability... they didn't work great, but they still could do it. I thank you profusely, whoever develops the app, ahead of time!

I would definitely pay for a app like this!
I just fired up my old LG Muziq a couple days ago because I can't take the low grade sound coming out of my horrible tape adapter
hello everyone, especially developers.
i have recently bought a pair of Beats by Dre headphones, which sound incredible so i'm keepin' em despite the following.
the headphones have a control/mic box on the line, for pausing music and changing the volume and ending calls and so forth without using the phone.
the problem is, the controls are built to work with iProducts, so the only thing that actually works on my N1 is the mic and play/pause button.
if an awesome dev out there could make an app that listened for the specific keys of the headset and translated them into the correct commands, or if said awesome dev could think of a more integrated way to do this (i'm on CM6) i could pay that dev money.
all i can really offer is $20, through paypal, but if anyone reading this thread feels for the cause, up the ante.
i'll provide any information you need, obviously.
this is what the controls should do:
http://lh5.ggpht.com/_oHcWa2roSA8/THSZRwZxTuI/AAAAAAAAADY/EL5co-8C9xo/s512/IMG_20100825_001228.jpg
this will be interesting to see if it can be done. I'm curious though, are the bands around the 3.5 jack in the exact same spots as the bands on the default android headphones that came with the n1? if not i doubt this will happen, if so then i suppose its a matter if someone can figure out what resistances come across when the buttons are pressed.
...holy crap, those instructions are pretty convoluted lol "press button in rapid succession while the wire is upside-down and the humidity in the air is above 80% while standing on your head to scan through a track"
i'll throw a dub at the dev that comes up with a solution for this as well. i don't personally use them, but my sister does and I know she'd love this functionality as she is blind, so controls on the headphones are a big help.
OP: if you hold in the talk button on your beats, does it launch voice command on the phone?
I'll throw in $5 if this can be accomplished. Sorry it's not a lot, but college is expensive you know?
This should help whichever dev takes this on: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5489250&postcount=3
Same problem here... Beats By Dre Solo and Xperia X 10. Hope this isn't a hardware issue, guessing so though. Please help if you can! I will donate $20!

Hey,
just a toss out to you guys...
I just bought some Solo Beats by Dre, and they came w. The controltalk wire as a surprise bonus. Despite it being a bonus, I felt it was a better justification of the price range I paid. Nevertheless, to the point...
I have a Motorola Milestone on Telus, in Canada. When I realized it didn't work, I noticed that pushing the volume button "currently" mutes the call, and shortly thereafter ends it. Upon further investigation involving multiple repeat calls to a friend, I noticed that if u hold the volume button (either the - or +, doesn't matter) it mutes it, and u can continue the call and unmute it via the touchscreen. However, no voice through the controltalk mic. Letting go of the buttons results in terminating the call.
Positive results include pushing the centre button at particular levels, the other end hears a beep when u do this, and sometimes clicks.
I hope this helps in some way shape and form, if the open source community could bring Androids to these headphones lineup of phones they function with, you open up a whole other market for them! It's good publicity for the open source effort. (And not that smeary "open" crud toted in media to sate the dumb deaf and blind.)
Also, I move that this thread be sailed on over to that there Android Software Development forum, what say ye??? Yarrr

Most likely java with the android sdk
And you probably wouldn't need to rip the headphones apart, just use an ohmmeter on the jack

I wont close it as I agree I have not found a 100% sure answer but i am 99% sure it doesnt have the hardware. I also never saw ATT admit that it did, even in the training docs I got it never mentioned it, It was one of the reasons I wanted to hold off getting it.
I also missed the FM radio of my Tilt 2, but I found this item on eBay that gives me pretty much what I want via BT and I can use it standalone without the phone if I want. Bought one about amonth ago and have been very happy with it. Call and music quality are excellent and battery life is better than 20 hours running and more than a week on standby. I also have a pair of Motorola S9s, but I prefer the in-ear style of these for mountain biking. Price has dropped $15 since I bought mine.

I use Iheartradio and Tunein radio for all my local channels and Talk radio. Give it a try.
I would add $25 to get a fully working fm radio with no other hardware.
it might have the hardware as the wifi/BT chip is the same as in the SGS.
The antenna may not be solder on the headphone jack.

It doesn't have FM anything. Period. The device itself doesn't have the physical capability. No amount of coding is ever going to change that.

im not sure that that is true, the old development thread had seemingly knowledgable people that thought at least one chip had fm capabilities.
problem is that without an antenna the chip is useless. if any one knows the hardware and driver coding that's great but modifying for an antenna is a problem. i dont know jack about coding and drivers but i can solder and know a couple clever ways to solder to surface mount boards fairly safely. maybe when i get a substitute for the captivate i can be a guini pig but first somebody needs to see if there are any chips that can support fm radio, if the chip can output to the dac in any way and see if they can replace or edit the samsung drivers and anything else. then if there is some posibility and a dev that will commit themself to the software we can think about making an antenna.
ill put up money if someone decides to take the chalenge. also would like to try a ffc mod but that will require some butchering of the phone, i need an infuse or galaxy s 2 before i butcher the cappy.

The 4751 used in the Captivate has no FM capability. None. Zero. Nada. Those seemingly knowledgeable people might have seemed knowledgeable, but they were speculating. Even the manufacturer states it doesn't have FM.
Broadcom makes a chip with FM transmitter (2076) but this doesn't have it. You can only code a driver if you have the SDK from Broadcom, and you can only get the SDK if you're one of Broadcom's customers (i.e. Samsung). This is a fool's quest.
The antenna would actually be the simplest part: the I9000 uses the headphone cord as the antenna.
If you really want FM that badly, get a $5 radio.

ahh, i re read it, (it's been months since i looked at it) now i see that some models of the galaxy s have a dedicated fm chip si4709 or something. and some have a gps chip that can support fm bcm4329, the speculation was about the bcm4329 chip which is not in the captivate but once the conversation got started about that chip people were dicussing it for phones with that chip and there was little in the thread noting that it did not actually apply to the captivate. somehow it was only mentioned maybe once that the captivate doesnt use that chip. there is no evidence that the si4709 chip is there or properly connected. i must have over looked the model gps chip they were discussing last i read the thread.
and yes i know many devices use the headphones as the antenna the problem had there been a fm radio chip that was hardware disabled would be esablishing a connection to the headphone jack. knowing where to put the wire is one thing. soldering it in there is another. you cant just use an old soldering iron on these things.

I recently picked up an Appradio 2 from Pioneer. The premise is good but the excecution is poor IMO.
The app seems overly complicated and quite frankly pisses me off the more i use it.
Now what i would like to know is if the app can be modified to just offer control of the MHL mirror. That would be ideal for me. At points within the app it allows you to control the screen via the touch screen on the appradio 2. Then at certain places it doesn't allow any touch or only touch portions of the screen.
I have very minimal knowledge of programming for android so i cannot tackle it myself. Im also willing to start a bounty for this as well if someone shows some interest.
Here is the apk: Link
Anyone up for the task?
I just got one of these earlier today. I was very excited at the "Android" support. I haven't installed it yet (buying a washer and dryer takes forever!), but I hope to do it tomorrow.
Did you do your install or did you have somebody do it for you?
Also, have you messed with navigation through phone at all? What cables does it need? I know it needs an MHL for my SGS2, but where can I find the cable that plugs into the back of the unit?
Its a simple straight forward install. The cable in the back is a full size HDMI that comes out of the mhl adapter.

As was i and to be honest i am sort of disappointed. However, the potential is there for this unit. I believe with the right modes to the app and/or unit it will be GREAT!
The system is similar as the MIMICS system. It mirrors the display of the phone via MHL and uses bluetooth to communicate screen touches. If the app can be modded so that it allows you to navigate to more than just the appradio app then it would be perfect.
Someone that knows what they are doing should be able to mod the app accordingly and unlock the true potential of this device.
I'm sure they will hear the complaints and make Appradio 3 or 4 better. I will definitely give it another try then. The lack of compatible android apps is disappointing.

The 'appradio2' from pioneer is just starting and is getting more and more android fans every day.
Altho this is a device with great potential, the user experience is indeed a little dissapointing.
Where should I begin?
Well, first the SPH-DA100 officially only supports android 3.2 and not even all phones running it too (a list of compatible devices is @ the Pioneer website)
I successfully connected my Galaxy Nexus i9250 (running ICS 4.0.4 since this weekend) and it works!
The perfect picture for this device should be when you can control your whole phone from the screen of the appradio. For now, only approved apps can be controlled.
I follow MKVFTW when he says that someone who knows what he's doing should rewrite the apk. but for now we can only wait for Pioneer to make another version.
I do not doubt that Pioneer will wait for an appradio 3 or 4 to make things better
The current hardware can handle it.
Or does everyone here buys a new phone when the next android version comes out???
I managed to get a custom background wallpaper on the device, that is a start isn't it?
*link not allowed yet --> search youtube for appradiomodder
Let's keep going where our apps take us !!
Cheers!
I already got rid of mine. It barely worked, such a waste.

Sorry to hear yours broke;
Mine works pretty good tbh. It rarely crashes and when it does, it only takes 20 secs. and the app restarts itself.
Bluetooth never worked from the second I opened the box. I'm using a compatible phone as well.

I'm currently looking in to the apk.
Seems like there a lot of things there wich aren't even active for the moment.
So I think a version 1.0.3 is coming soon
According to Pioneer the app manufacurers shoud update their apps to be compatible with the sph-DA100. I don't understand this.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it possible to connect a bluetooth mouse + keyboard to your android phone? (I did this ages ago allready on my Pocket-pc)
A touchscreen (even multitouch) works by the same principals no?
I think Pioneer's it-devision is taking things to far at once and they should re-think the whole app. I'm not that experienced with coding (I'm a modder, not a creator), but from Android 3.2 and up (when the device supports mhl or hdmi out) the procedure call for android.permission.BLUETOOTH and android.permission.EXTSCREEN is the same for all devices right?
Hawt tip for any Pioneer engineer happening to stumble on this thread::
Take any android 3.2+ device with HDMI/MHL out
Connect this to a tv using HDMI/MHL to HDMI cable
Take any bluetooth mouse and connect it to your phone (might need a FREE driver app on older phones)
Take any bluetooth keyboard and connect it to your phone (might need a FREE driver app on older phones)
Enjoy manipulating ALL APPS + PHONE GUI on your tv
Cheers!
They currently have something interesting going on in the apple camp with Appradio Extensions 2.0
Appradiomodder, you are correct with the bluetooth. Most if not all android devices now adays support bluetooth devices.
The apk does what it should do when it comes to sending touch commands through the receiver screen to the phone via bluetooth. The problem is that the apk restricts it to certain locations.
That looks promising
But I noticed its for the appradio 1 not 2.
Respect for the guy's work tho! That requires a bit more skills than modding..
I'm not quite sure yet if its the appradioapp that does the restrictions. It could also be an extension is needed from the 'approved app'
I'm gonna check the apk's Carmediaplayer and Carkeyboard this weekend.
I feel it could be both. When you are at the appradio home screen and try to pull down the notification bar it wont do anything, yet in the app on the phone you can pull down no problem.
I found out a couple of things:
It is not possible to make the phone GUI work with the appradio for now. for that to work, a new AppradioApp should be written.
The approved apps contain extra code(smali) wich tunnel the received info (Location info, Parkinginfo, touchlayer info, ...) from the radio and translate that to the app itself.
The approved apps contain extra permissions to communicate with the appradio/-app
If any experienced programmer would want to have a look at this, I'd be happy to share what I found out allready.
- Background picture can be customized (only in app mode)
- ANY app can appear in the approved apps list on the radio and they CAN be started by pressing the radio's screen
The search goes on...

The MAIN thing i need/want right now is google music. That is my primary source of audible goodness. Everything else is fine that is stock for me. I just figured it would be the easiest route to mirror.
Hello all. This is my first post in XDA. I thought I had read a thread on XDA that mentioned getting much improved audio from this phone however I can no longer locate this thread. Perhaps I am mistaken that I saw it here in the first place. I did try to search here for this subject as well and did not have any success so I joined XDA in hopes of gaining knowledge on this, as well as many other, subjects. If any on XDA can offer advice on improving the speaker sound output quality I would very much appreciate reading such. It may just be a matter of using an app or something else non Pixel 2 specific.
Many thanks - Howard
Another topic is like to know the answer to. I've heard Poweramp can improve. I've also heard good things about Viper4android.
Sent from my Pixel 2 using Tapatalk
I know a lot of people talk about Viper4android, however I think it needs root to work well. I tried it a long time on the Nexus 4 and it did improve audio, however I haven't tried it in a long time.
Place the phone in an enclosed area like a small cardboard box. It makes a huge difference. I used to travel with Bluetooth speaker to play music but with the improved sound of the Pixel 2 I just experiment with the positioning my phone and save the space and weight of carrying a bluetooth speaker.
